Sharif's loss may strengthen army, has India worried

ISLAMABAD/NEW DELHI: A serious setback to Pakistani PM Nawaz Sharif following the disclosure that his daughter and putative heir apparent, Maryam Sharif, had concealed ownership of the family's offshore assets and companies threatens to create new security complications for India.

A Joint Investigation Team (JIT) probing the Panama Papers, in its report to the supreme court, accused Maryam of forgery. The JIT has charged the ruling family with perjury, having disproportionate income and living beyond their means. It said Sharif failed to satisfactorily answer most of the questions put to him during his appearance before investigators on June 15.

"He was generally evasive and seemed preoccupied during the interview. Major part of his statement was based on hearsay," the report said, adding that Sharif remained non-committal, speculative and at times non-cooperative while recording his statement. The report further said Sharif tried to "parry most of the questions" by giving indefinite answers or by stating that "he does not remember, ostensibly to conceal facts".

If the SC decides to implement the report, perhaps by next week, Sharif might either be removed or, at the very least, be rendered completely ineffectual. This could have implications for India in the coming weeks and months, particularly in the security sphere.
India and Pakistan barely have any official interactions any more. The walk-by greeting between PM Narendra Modi and Sharif in Astana epitomised the state of ties, which does not go beyond pleasantries.

But while the loss of Sharif is unlikely to strike a blow at bilateral ties, a change of regime at this time might mean that there will be new players in Islamabad, too new to matter, leaving the job of governance and foreign policy to the army brass in Rawalpindi.

That would be the most obvious coup-like situation, bringing the army back on the frontline of governance, and its unclear whether it would want that. In addition, Sharif 's patrons in Saudi Arabia might not look too kindly on that, and it would certainly play badly in the US. Third, for all his problems, Sharif is still popular in Pakistan. An army-led removal might just help to cement that popularity .

From Ashfaq Kayani to Qamar Bajwa, the army has been loath to removing the civilian government of the day, even though it may be running the country from behind the scenes.

Sharif and his party, PML(N), remain defiant in the face of the opposition's call for his ouster, with the ruling party vowing to challenge the report.

However, the dominant opinion holds that JIT's findings have severely weakened Sharif's position by cutting his avenues of deniability, something which can be a source of worry for India. The outcome of the Sharif investigation and the resultant instability holds out the old red flags -that when Pakistan goes through a crisis, turning the spotlight on India and Kashmir might be a tempting answer.

Pakistan-based terror groups have shown that they can penetrate into J&K fairly easily, the Amarnath attack being the latest. It would be tempting to ratchet up violence in the Kashmir Valley, and use it to fend off international pressure to restore a civilian government.

Government circles in New Delhi seem to agree as they brace for what might turn out to be possible post-Sharif scenarios. The general elections are only months away, and if the army wants to preserve the democratic facade, they could allow Sharif to stay on until then. Second, Sharif's younger brother Shahbaz could take over his mantle.

Although Shahbaz would be an easier transition, he might remain severely constrained, and anyway, elections are around the corner, so it is unlikely he would want to pick up the Sharif flak, and might prefer to be a fresh face in the elections.

Comments : Nawaz chances of survival : Will he or won't he? :rotfl:

Rest snipped....

Missing from the above, is one key factor, which may or may not be relevant ; Raheel Sharif's sudden arrival in La-Whore last week . Was that just a "coincidence" or is he now involved in this JIT "gol-maal" . If and when Ganja Sharif is "removed", how will it affect his position as "Muslim NATO Head". Another "conspiracy theory" to take into account

Massa Says That It Is Pakistan's Internal Matter

‘Political situation emerging after JIT report internal matter .

WASHINGTON: The US State Department has described Pakistan’s current political situation as an internal matter of the country and avoided making policy statement before the announcement of a new strategy for the Pak-Afghan region
The department also avoided endorsing the Indian claim that Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) was behind this week’s terrorist attack in India-held Kashmir and declined to identify the Taliban as a terrorist outfit. This is the Washington correspondent of a Paki paper reporter, not a reputable New Agency . !
“We refer you to the government of Pakistan for further information on this internal matter,” a State Department spokesperson told Dawn ( this is of course, the official stance. What is going on "behind the scenes" cannot be divulged, as US cannot be accused as " interfering in Pakistan's internal affairs !) when asked to comment on the situation following the JIT report, which has created serious doubts about the political future of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and members of his family. The report blamed Mr Sharif and his family for having wealth beyond their stated means of income.
While the political situation in Pakistan is still too uncertain for a foreign government to comment on, at Tuesday afternoon’s regular news briefing State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert also avoided endorsing the Indian claim that LeT was behind this week’s terrorist attack in the held valley that killed seven Hindu pilgrims.

Dar's Selective Memory Loss- Like Ganja Sharif - Before JIT Committee Which "Probed Him"

Saeed ran nursing home before getting SBP, NBP posts: Dar

KARACHI: Finance Minister Ishaq Dar told the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) probing money laundering allegations that Saeed Ahmed, incumbent president of the National Bank of Pakistan, was running ( owner or manager ) a nursing home in London before his appointment as deputy governor of the State Bank of Pakistan. Another senior Paki Bureaucrat with British Passport as a form of insurance in case ....
In his statement before the JIT on July 3, the finance minister said he knew Mr Ahmed from his days in college and recommended him for the office of deputy governor of the central bank and then as NBP president. Dar is a CA from UK !
The JIT specifically asked the finance minister whether he knew what Mr Ahmed was doing before he was appointed SBP deputy governor. “He [Mr Ahmed] was running a nursing home for elderly people in London for last many years. As a lot of people living in London do not have the time to take care of their elders. But he was a very qualified person and an actuary by profession,” replied Mr Dar, according to his statement to the JIT. So, this nepotism based appointment was backed up by "necessary qualifications"
Mr Ahmed was among a few individuals who had submitted to the Supreme Court a complaint accusing the JIT of insulting and mistreating him during his appearance before the team last month. His name has been cited in the final report of the JIT submitted to the apex court on multiple occasions. [color=#0000FF]Dent on the Echendee !
[/color]
The report said that investigations revealed that the process of money laundering had started in Sept 1991 and some suspicious transactions showed that funds amounting to $2.23 million had been deposited in two accounts opened in the names of Saeed Ahmad and Mukhtar Hussain. Subsequently, all the money from these accounts had been transferred to the accounts of Musa Ghani and Talat Masud Qazi through dollar bearer certificates (DBCs) to hide the source of the funds, it said. So, Dar's recommendation for the post for Saeed , came with the proviso that he would do Dar's bidding in the gol-maal
When the JIT asked Mr Dar about Mr Ghani, he said: “He is my nephew and now lives in USA. He is a British citizen. I have not met him for quite a long time and do not remember the last time we met.” About the transfer of Rs102 million from the account of Hajveri Modarba to the account of Mr Ahmed in 1999, which was withdrawn in cash, the finance minister said he did not remember what the background of that transaction was. Selective memory loss and evasive answer- similar to what Ganja uttered to the JIT !
He also told the JIT that it seemed improbable that Mr Ahmed, a director of Hajveri Modarba, would give him the power of attorney to operate the account as, being the chief executive, he had a lot of other business matters to deal with. “I did not operate this account and I do not know anything about it.”
Mr Dar refused to tell the JIT about a company — Baraq Holdings — which he said he managed on behalf of Sheikh Nahyan of Abu Dhabi as his nominee. He said he was acting as an adviser to Sheikh Nahyan from February 2002 to March 2008.
IMO, his days as Finance Minister of Pakiland are numbered ! During his tenure, he took loans left and right greatly increase Pakistan's debt load !
“I cannot provide the details of the companies that belong to this group as it is privileged information. I can, however, say that it has no link or transaction with any Pakistani company,” he said.Mr Dar also refused to inform the JIT about details of the remunerations he got as Sheikh’s adviser. As the 275 page JIT report is being "studied", new and stunning revelations are making it to the Paki press.

4 policemen including SP Quaidabad killed in Quetta gun attack

Four policemen including SP Quaidabad, Mubarik Shah, were killed by firing of unknown persons at Kalli Deeba area of Quetta. Police mobile was on routine patrol, when targeted and fired by unknown attackers. The killed officials include SP Mubarik Shah, Syed Fazal Rabbi, Irfan and Mudassar. The search operation has been started and teams are working in this regard. SP Shah was the main target of the attackers, media reports stated. The police and security agencies have reached the site and cordoned off the whole area. A search operation is underway.
Two days ago, District Police Officer (DPO) Chaman Sajid Khan Mohmand was killed and at least seven were injured in result of the roadside blast in Boghra Chowk of Chaman, Balochistan. The explosion occurred near DPO vehicle as a police convoy was passing through the area. The explosive material was hidden in parked motorcycle near the road. Interior Minister Chaudhary Nisar condemned the blast and asked the authorities to present report of explosion. On July 6th, At least two people, local leader of Balochistan National Party (BNP) Malik Naveed and his guard Zaheer Khan, were killed while one injured in firing attack in Quetta. According to details, attackers opened the fire on a car at Arbab Karam Khan Road resulting death of two on the spot. This is the latest and definitely not the last of such attacks . IMO, the Balochi Freedom Fighters and the Security Agencies are "fighting it out" on the streets of the Balochistan capital.

Moral Policing By PTA

Pakistan asks Facebook to link accounts to mobile numbers

Pakistan has asked the Facebook management to link opening of Facebook accounts to mobile numbers to overcome the issue of fake accounts, said a Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) official. Facebook has already designated a focal person to coordinate with PTA for prompt action against any reported issue.
“Facebook (recently) reiterated its commitment toward the removal of blasphemous and objectionable content and assured the authorities that they will improve the coordination and response time”, an official told APP. “Mobile numbers are verified through biometric verification system in the country. Currently, Facebook accounts are being opened through an email. The issue of fake accounts could be overcome if all existing accounts are verified with phone numbers”. A Vice President of Facebook recently visited Pakistan to discuss this and other issued with Interior Minister Nisar .
PTA received more than 6,000 online complaints, including 350 of blasphemous content. These complaints were reviewed and all the accounts posting blasphemous content were blocked, he said, adding that 12,977 URLs from where blasphemous content was posted, have been blocked so far. PTA has established a "web analysis cell" where 25 personnel work solely on identifying unlawful content on the internet. It will be interesting to know if , Facebook will remain as is ,once the Chinese Internet and Satellite System is introduced in Pakistan, with its own set of censorship and other rules !

India considers Nawaz its ally, concerned for his ouster: Imran

PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan on Thursday claimed that India considers Nawaz Sharif its ally and is concerned for his possible ouster. The statement was based on a report in India's English-language daily, Times of India, stating that PM Sharif's loss may strengthen (Pakistani) army, which has India worried. The article said it would create "new security complications for India".
Speaking to media in Peshawar, Khan quoted the article published in the Indian daily and claimed, "India fears for the loss of its ally". He said ethics are true spirit of democracy and prime ministers, all over the world, step down for speaking a mere lie. Imran Khan is playing to the "lowest common denominator" - the unwashed Aam Abduls ! What he is saying by implication is that when he is in power , he will not be ally of India
Referring to Maulana Fazlur Rahman, the PTI chairman said the Jamiat Ulema Islam-Fazli chief was backing PM for the sake of money. Anyone would be worried if his livelihood , as in this case, would be at stake

Unfortunately this is another reason we need to continue to issue very selectively medical visas. This is one of the few instruments of leverage we have left which doesn't flow from a 105mm barrel, and as much as we might hate giving a free or subsidized ride to a Paki we may have to do it from time to time.

India should not be moved by the "considering" being done by the AoA El Bakistan.
Only after Kulbhushan's mother meets Kulbhushan, comes back and falsifies Pak Fauj's lie about him, should India "start considering" a visa for the Ameloblastoma lady or any others

Maid allegedly tortured to death by Punjab MPA

A child maid was allegedly tortured to death by his employee in Lahore, his sister said on Tuesday, reported Waqt News. Family of Akhtar Ali, 16, said the boy and his sister were allegedly assaulted by their employers that led to Ali’s death.Media reports identify the accused as Shah Jahan, a Punjab based lawmaker, and his daughter.“They used to torture us with rods,” said the boy’s sister. “There are torture marks on my body.”

This is of course, a serious allegation. And in any other country, would be a serious matter. And the "lawmaker" ( MP, MNA, municipal councilor etc ) would be asked to suspend himself or herself from the Assembly right away until the allegations are proved otherwise! But, then here you are talking about Pakistan, where a sitting PM has been found guilty of massive corruption. And shamelessly, he refuses to resign

PS: One other press report states that ( true to form!) the culprit was granted bail, but has now absconded !

Paki Govt Channel Being Used For "Private Matter"

Nawaz tries to establish 'urgent contact' with UAE counterpart .

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday wrote a letter to the Embassy of United Arab Emirates (UAE) in Islamabad, a copy of which is available with DawnNews, seeking an arrangement for urgent telephonic contact between Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum."Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif wishes to urgently speak to Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum over the telephone," read the letter.
The diplomatic cable surfaced at a time when the prime minister is already in hot water over the Panamagate scandal. If Ganja seeks political asylum in Dubai, Abu Dhabi or one of the other smaller fiefdoms comprising the UAE , then he should not use Paki Foreign Office resources for the same.!
The letter also highlighted that the Embassy of Pakistan in Abu Dhabi has already contacted UAE authorities in this regard.A credible source told DawnNews that the letter, drafted on July 12, was handed over to a UAE envoy by the Foreign Office's DG Middle East in person on Thursday. The letter was written after failed attempts by Pakistani diplomatic channels in the UAE to establish contact, the source said. I suspect that like the Qatari Prince, "His Highness" Rashid Al -Maktoum is "trying" to avoid Nawaz on one pretext or the other, having concluded that Ganja has become too toxic, even by Middle East corruption standards . . On the other hand, it could be that the Sheikh might have taken off on one of his private 737 for a "working holiday" to either London, New York, Geneva for a much deserved R&R. After all, Europe and Northern Massaland is "cool" these days with lots of summer fun .And Dubai etc are baking in the hot sun.
The diplomatic letter sought the assistance of the embassy for the "earliest confirmation of a convenient time slot to make this telephone call today." However, the source informed DawnNews that no such contact had been made till Thursday evening. Like POTUS, there are lots of "leaks" in Ganja's PMO and Paki FO

Another Case Of Vigilante And/Or Frontier Justice Reported In Pakistan .

Landlord kills eight-year-old child after donkey trespasses into his field

ABBOTTABAD – An eight -year-old child was allegedly killed by a local landlord over trespassing of donkey into his field, police said on Thursday.
Maskeen – an owner of the field, got infuriated after finding a donkey in his farm. On this, he tied the hands of a child, Mudassar, with the donkey as punishment. Later, the animal dragged the boy around the whole field that led to his death. The horrific incident that shocked the locals took place in the jurisdiction of the Lora Police Station in Kangar Meera village, Abbottabad. ( Imran Khan's PTI is in power in KP Province, where Abbotabad is located !).According to the father, Shair Afzal of deceased kid, Mudassar had gone to take back the donkey from landlord’s field however, the influential man tied the boy to the donkey and started beating him.
“The donkey covered a distance of few kilometres dragging the boy on road leading to his death”, he added. The accused, Makeen, was taken into custody by police and a case has subsequently been registered against him, DPO Abbottabad Ashfaq Anwar informed the media. The prime suspect was also presented before a local court on Thursday after which he was handed over to police on two days remand. Moreover, the family of the deceased appealed to Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervaiz Khattak, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chief Imran Khan and IGP to provide justice to them. If the suspect is "politically powerful", then the family of the deceased should forget about justice . And this is precisely , why the Aam Abduls have "no faith" in the police and court system of Pakistan. Are such cases, within the jurisdiction of the so-called UN Human Rights Council , of which the Govt of Saudi Arabia is an "active" member . The "poor Abduls" of the victim's family should try that route, along with getting help from a foreign- based NGO, who may be funding some projects in the area !

India rejects China's offer, says talks with Pakistan only possible in bilateral framework

Comment comes a day after China's offer to, "play a constructive role to improve relations between Pakistan, India." — File
India's Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Gopal Baglay has made it clear that India is, "ready to have a dialogue with Pakistan ... but in a bilateral framework," ANI reported on Thursday.

Baglay made the remarks in response to China's offer to "play a constructive role to improve the relations between Pakistan and India," which came on Wednesday.

According to ANI, Baglay said, "Our stand is absolutely clear as far as I recall on the remarks, which motioned that Kashmir issue is central to peace and stability. All of us know that the heart of the matter is cross-border terrorism perpetrated on India, including Jammu and Kashmir."

"We are ready to have a dialogue with Pakistan, among other issues, but in a bilateral framework. So the [India's] position of addressing all issues with Pakistan, including the Jammu and Kashmir issue, in a bilateral framework has not changed."

Earlier, on Wednesday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang had said, "Both Pakistan and India are important countries in South Asia. The conflict between the two countries along the line of control in Kashmir is neither conducive to their own stability and development nor regional peace and tranquillity."

"China hopes relevant parties to do more to help with regional peace and stability and refrain from escalating the tension. China stands ready to play a constructive role to improve the relations between Pakistan and India," Shuang had said in a press conference.

The remarks from both sides come amid rising border tension between India and China. Indian and Chinese troops are reportedly facing off on a section of land high in the Himalayas near what is known as the tri-junction, where Tibet, India, and Bhutan meet.

China has alleged that the Indian troops are on its soil, but both Bhutan and India say the area in question is Bhutanese territory.

India, which has a military presence in Bhutan, says its troops approached a Chinese army unit that entered the Doklam area of the Himalayan nation on June 16 and tried to build a road.

On June 27, China had accused Indian border guards of crossing into its territory from the state of Sikkim on India's northeastern border with Tibet, complicating an already difficult relationship.

At the time Shuang had said that Indian guards “obstructed normal activities” by Chinese forces on the border and called on India to withdraw immediately.

India refuses to hold series with Pakistan in South Africa :D

KARACHI - The Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) has once again refused to hold any cricket matches or series against Pakistan. The BCCI has refused to hold a bilateral series with Pakistan in neutral venue in South Africa. It stated that government permission is required for any series involving less than three teams. India is scheduled to tour South Africa in January 2018 to play four Tests, five ODIs and two T20Is. South Africa has said the tour would replace the scheduled visit by Sri Lanka. Pakistan had expressed a desire to play a tri-lateral series in South Africa which has been rejected by India.

Pakistan can treble per capita income by reducing fertility

ISLAMABAD: Harnessing the potential of a large, young and highly skilled population can bring about an economic turnaround – the likes of which many Asian countries have already experienced. But high fertility and growing dependency can prevent Pakistan from moving out of a vicious cycle of poverty and deprivation.

This was said by Population Council Country Director Dr Zeba Sathar while addressing a satellite event of the London Summit in Islamabad on Wednesday which had been jointly organised by the Council, the Health Ministry, United Nation Population Fund and the British High Commission.

Dr Sathar said that while the population growth rate in the country was slowing down, fertility levels remain high when compared to the rest of the region.

“With up to 5 million unwanted pregnancies and an estimated 2 million abortions taking place annually, Pakistan faces a challenge in providing family planning services to all those women and men with unmet needs,” she said.

The council’s director said that Pakistan was set to make strong commitments at the global summit in London because of its intentions to speed up its transition to lower levels of fertility.

“It clearly needs to accelerate its effort to reduce unwanted fertility for reducing maternal and child mortality and for improving human development and economic outcomes,” she said.

If Pakistan is able to adequately regulate the fertility rate, Dr Sathar said that Pakistan would be able to treble its per capita income in 2050 through a rapid decline in fertility.

Health Minister Saira Afzal Tarar, meanwhile, vowed to accelerate efforts towards achieving goals in population planning and access to reproductive health services.

She said that by 2020, Pakistan aims to achieve a contraceptive prevalence rate of 50 per cent. This target, the minister said, would be achieved through additional resources, raising the per capita expenditure on family planning to Rs250, and a programmatic refocus to address the information and service needs of men and young people while introducing safe and long-acting reversible methods through task sharing.

The minister said that Pakistan was quite eager to reap the benefits of a demographic dividend which will become available with the lowering of unmet needs and lower fertility.

The London Family Planning Summit 2017, she said, represents a midpoint to the 2020 goals, and offers an opportunity to re-energise the federal and provincial commitments which were made in 2012 and to accelerate actions to increase access to rights-based family planning.

How To Deal With Pakistan .

Dealing with Pak

12 ways to cripple Pak without firing a shot
By R Vaidyanathan -
July 12, 2017

Posted in Full .

Let us be blunt—Pak is winning the war of “thousand cuts on India” successfully. It has killed many of our army personnel without using its army directly. It has enough terrorists-cockroaches both inside Kashmir Valley and in Pak-occupied Kashmir (PoK). It can go on sending them to martyrdom with very low cost to its Army/ economy.
It has been able to create a substantial number of sympathizers among even school going girl children and women who rush to protect terrorists. They pelt stones or provide a human shield. The war is between creating a Caliphate by terrorists supported by Pak and the secular ideology of India where India is losing both manpower and in ideas.
It is important to recognize and internalize the fact that Pakistan is not a normal country with leaders, parliament, constitution, Army etc. It is one of the few places where the Army owns a country and runs it. The Army controls the country and owns its Economy.
This is an important issue since studies have found that a large number of corporates in Pakistan are ultimately owned by Fauji Foundation [FF], Army Welfare Trust [AWT] Bahria Foundation [BF], Shaheen Foundation [SF] all owned by its different wings of armed forces. [See Paper presented by Dr Ayesha Siddiqa-Agha: Power, Perks, Prestige And Privileges: Military’s Economic Activities In Pakistan in The International Conference on Soldiers in Business–Military as an Economic Actor “Jakarta, October 17-19, 2000].
At least 70 percent of the market capitalization of the Karachi stock exchange is owned by the army and other related groups. Hence do not try to think of Pakistan without its Army, whoever may be temporarily and nominally ruling that place.
Also, a significant portion of its GDP is due to Army controlled entities. [See Military Inc. Inside Pakistan’s Military Economy by Ayesha Siddiqa—OUP—2007] and one can easily say that Pakistan Economy and its Army / ISI are synonymous.
Unless this elementary fact is internalized we are not going anywhere. This implies we should stop talking of a stable Pakistan since a stable Pak means multiple attacks on many more cities of India by that rogue organization ISI which is the core of the Pakistan Army and which is at the heart of Pakistan’s economy.
Hence giving MFN – Most Favored Nation – status to Pak in 1996 is a grave error committed by India which has not been reciprocated. Actually, we have provided MFN to the Pak Army. If there is any legal way to annul this "gift" to Pakistan, it should be done ASAP. !
There are three groups in India who are obsessed with friendship with Pakistan. One is the oldies born in that part before partition and who are nostalgic about Lahore Havelis, Halwas, and Mujiras. The second is the Bollywood and other assorted groups who look at it as a big market. Dawood gang has financed enough of these useful idiots. The third is the candle light holding bleeding heart liberals [BHL’s] who cannot imagine India doing well without its younger brother being taken care of. All three are proved wrong a hundred times but all three are in important opinion maker’s role. Shun them, avoid them and ridicule them
The Modi Govt needs to do more in these 3 categories !
These Wagah Candle Kissers [WCK] either do not understand the Economic power structure of Pakistan or understand and naively hope that it will not be an issue.
Their constitution – 1973 version – visualizes – quoting from its preamble “Whereas sovereignty over the entire Universe belongs to Almighty Allah alone, and the authority to be exercised by the people of Pakistan within the limits prescribed by Him is a sacred trust; wherein the principles of democracy, freedom, equality, tolerance and social justice, as enunciated by Islam, shall be fully observed”. In theory, Malsi may "talk big" about social justice, democracy , equality , tolerance blah blah blah. In practice, you just have to look at any Islamic countries where these principles are implemented and minorities are treated fairly
It is the Army which is the chosen instrument to implement the will of God. This was recently clearly enunciated by its then Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General. Kiyani in terms of protecting Islam and Protecting Pakistan are the sovereign duties of the armed forces.
Actually, he suggests that the role of the army is more than protecting the country but the idea and religion. Recently the UN [appointed by President Zardari] team probing the death of Benazir Bhutto could interview all civil leaders including PM and President but not the Army brass. When Army objected to Kerry –Lugar bill the president had to bring in Kerry himself to talk to Chief of the armed forces. The Kerry- Lugar Bill is a good deterrent to punish the fauj if its seizes power directly . It is now confined to "rule from behind the facade of democracy"
In India, the defense minister can ask Army chief to Court Martial a General but in Pakistan, any such attempt will result in a coup. That is why the Pakistan always negotiates with a gun to its own head. It wants to assert its suicidal tendencies and shout about deluge if it fails in the talks.
The candle kissers are doing a great disservice to India and also to Pakistan since that State has visualized itself as the protector and promoter of the God’s vision. One dimension of that vision is to train the suicide bombers to terminate the unbelievers inside and outside Pakistan. They so called peaceniks naively believe that that Army will go away or the foundations of the state of Pakistan will fade away.
Almost all terror attacks in any part of the world in the last decade have a link with Pakistan. Terrorism is funded by Saudi Arabia, planned in London and executed by Pakistani foot soldiers globally. Its strategic ally namely the USA wants to body screen every Pakistani entering USA and also wants to open their entire luggage particularly if it has been packed by them. The "Green Passport" is a "Red Signal" to the Immigration Officer and the possessor of This Document will receive "Special Treatment"
Its other mentor namely Saudi Arabia has a system of issuing visas to Pakistanis after severe verification. (
Drug smugglers are hacked to death in the public square. And for other crimes, they are swiftly deported back. !
It’s taller than mountain deeper than ocean dost namely China is worried about Pakistani role in Xinxiang uprising and quietly hangs the rebels many of them from the PoK. Currently, Pakistan is in the abyss and it would be beneficial that it is split into many countries–not only for peace in India but also all over the world.
India should take the following steps to destabilize and cripple the economy of Pakistan:
These were suggested by us in 2008 and hope we wake up at least after nearly 10 years…

Identify the major export items of Pakistan (like Basmati rice, carpets, etc) and provide zero export tax or even subsidize them for export from India. Hurt Pakistan on the export front.
Identify the major countries providing arms to Pakistan and arm twist them. Tell Brazil and Germany (currently planning to supply massive defense items to Pakistan) that it will impact their ability to invest in India. Tell Germany that retail license to Metro will be off and other existing projects will be in jeopardy.
Incidentally, after the arrival of Coke and Pepsi in China, the human rights violations of China are not talked about much by US government organs. Think it is a coincidence? Unless we use our markets to arm-twist arms exporters to Pakistan, we will not achieve our objectives.
Tell American companies that for every 5% increase in FDI limit for them, their government needs to reduce equipping Pakistan by $10 billion. That is real politics, not whining. Let us remember that funds are in desperate search of emerging markets and not the other way about. Let us also remember that international economics is politics by another name.
Create assets to print/distribute their currency widely inside their country. To some extent, Telgi types can be used to outsource this activity. Or just drop their notes in remote areas.
Pressurize IMF to add additional conditionality to the loans given to them or at least do not vote for their loans.
Create assets within Pakistan to destabilize Karachi stock market – it is already in a shambles. Withdraw MFN since from 96 they have not given it to us.
Cricket and Bollywood are the opium of the Indian middle classes. Both have been adequately manipulated/ controlled by the D-company since the eighties. Chase the D-company money in Cricket/ Bollywood and punish by burning D-assets in India instead of trying to have them auctioned by the IT department when nobody comes to bid for it.
Provide for capital punishment to those who fund terror and help in that. We have the division in the finance ministry to monitor money laundering, etc. It is important that terror financing is taken seriously and fully integrated into money laundering monitoring systems and this division is provided with much larger budget and human resources. And it should coordinate with RAW.
Encourage and allow scientists/ academicians/ elites of Pakistan to opt for Indian passport and widely publicize that fact since it will hurt their self-respect and dignity. There will be a long queue to get Indian passports — many will jump to get our passport — since they will not be stopped at international airports. Do not give passports to all — make it a prized possession. Make a 10-year “monitoring” period. Let it hurt the army- and ISI-controlled country. This one step will destroy their identity and self-confidence.
Discourage companies from India from investing in Pakistan, particularly IT companies, till Pakistan stops exporting its own IT (international terrorism).
In all these, it is important that we do not bring in the domestic religious issues. The target is the terror central, namely Pakistan, and if there are elements helping them here then they also should be punished — irrespective of religious labels. If Pakistan is dismantled and the idea of Pakistan is gone, many of our domestic issues will also be sorted out.

Will the Indian elite go for the jugular or just light more candles and scream at formless /nameless political class before TV cameras? It is going to be a long haul and maybe in a decade or so we can find a solution to our existential crisis of being attacked by barbarians from the west. We need to combine strategy and patience and completely throw to the dustbin the “Gujral Doctrine” by that mumbling PM about treating younger brother with equanimity. The doctrine essentially suggests that if we are slapped on both the cheeks we should feel bad that we do not have a third cheek to show.
Such is our strategic thinking in this complex world since our political class is not adequately briefed nor the elite thinks through issues. Better to be simple in our talks and vicious in our actions rather than the other way.If we want the world to treat Pakistan for what it is then we should start practicing it. Always call it as Terrorist State of Pakistan [TSP] and never have any illusion that it is going to be any different. Completely and mprehensively cut off all our relations with them—Economic/ Cultural/ Sports and all other aspects. Unless we treat them as international disease no other country would. If we are alone let it be.Dawood Ibrahim funded Bollywood will weep and some asinine jholawalas may complain. South Africa was treated for its Apartheid so should Pakistan for practicing Terrorism as a State policy. Unless we start completely boycotting terrorist Pakistan we cannot ask others to do it. Pakistan is our cancer and unless we are clear how to handle it we cannot expect US and others to deal with it. Will Corporate India including Electronic/ Print Media start practicing it then we can see results in a few years? One hopes that the elites are listening…Otherwise, when the next Mumbai attack happens the senile peaceniks may order more candles and try to generate more Asha for the demon.

Why it is assumed in non GoI circles that Govt of the say is not aware of all these options and is hoping to grow a 3rd cheek for Pakis to slap. I think Govts work at a different pace and bigger picture in mind.

I think this whole charade of Pakis putting gun on their head to negotiate, the gun may go off someday accidentally.

PM Nawaz says will fight for people till the end
Will go down with the ship in the end.

the Premier reiterated his decision not to step down from office on the call of opposition, saying that he would continue to fight for the people of Pakistan till the end.
his conscience was clear
the members warmly welcomed PM Nawaz by thumping desks on his arrival
Amid loud thumping of desks by the Federal Cabinet members, confident and resolute Prime Minister said he was not going to resign and those seeking his resignation must come up with solid proof against him.
I have no burden on my conscience by the grace of Allah. I haven’t done anything wrong. Our family has gained nothing from politics but lost a lot”

US likely to toughen conditions for civil, military aid to Pakistan

A proposal has been submitted for consideration before a key Congressional panel of the United States to make the civil and military aid to Pakistan conditional to Islamabad’s support to the fight against the Taliban-affiliated Haqqani network and other homegrown militant groups.

The relationship between the two countries has been strained at times, with some in Washington believing Islamabad has not done enough to bring its influence to bear to persuade the Afghan Taliban to renounce violence. The draft bill titled 2018 State and Foreign Operations Appropriations was placed for deliberation before members of the House Appropriations Committee on Wednesday.

Pakistan has received billions in US aid since the invasion of Afghanistan in 2001. The Haqqani network, based in the border areas between Afghanistan and Pakistan, has long been thought to have ties to the military establishment of Pakistan.

The bill, which provides $47.4 billion in both regular discretionary and Overseas Contingency Operations (OCO) funding, asks US secretary of state to certify that “Pakistan is cooperating with the US in counterterrorism efforts against the Haqqani Network, the Quetta Shura Taliban, Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Muhammad, al-Qaeda, and other domestic and foreign terrorist organisations, including taking effective steps to end support for such groups and prevent them from basing and operating in Pakistan and carrying out cross border attacks into neighboring countries.”

It requires the secretary of state to certify that “Pakistan is not supporting terrorist activities against the US or coalition forces in Afghanistan” and the country’s military and intelligence agencies are not intervening extra-judicially into political and judicial processes.

It further requires the secretary of state to certify that Pakistan is not financing or otherwise supporting schools supported by, affiliated with, or run by the Taliban or any designated foreign terrorist organisation and that Islamabad is preventing the proliferation of nuclear-related material and expertise.

The bill demands that the funds appropriated under the ‘Foreign Military Financing Programme’ for Pakistan’s assistance can only be used to support counterterrorism and counterinsurgency operations in the country. “The Secretary of State should suspend assistance for the Government of Pakistan if any report required by clause (i) indicates that Pakistan is failing to make measurable progress in meeting such goals or benchmarks,” it states.

Pakistani main exports are Textiles (about 60% of their exports) and these are very price sensitive and no loyalty at all by the importers in the USA. If GOI spends say a few hundred million dollars subsidizing our exports then Pakistan exports will tank at least to the USA.

C.P.E.C : China Wants S.E.Z. A.S.A.P.

China pushes Pakistan on Special Economic Zones

ISLAMABAD: While Pakistan is yet to form a group of experts to decide setting up of the exact number and types of special economic zones (SEZs) along the CPEC route in the first phase, China has notified the government of forming the group.During the last meeting of the Pak-China Joint Cooperation Committee (PCJCC) held in Beijing, setting up of nine SEZs had been prioritised. It had been decided that the two countries would set up expert groups to deliberate how to build the priority zones. China is "extra keen"on this, Pakis not so ! :D
Mr Yuan informed the Pakistani side that China has already built four special economic zones followed by developing 14 coastal cities, and subsequently, 14 industrial zones :((
During the concluding session, presentations were made by the governments of Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir, highlighting the potential of agricultural and horticultural products for exports.
BoI Secretary, Azher Ali Choudhry enumerated the main features of the incentive package for the identified priority SEZs and invited the Chinese to convey their viewpoint, if any, for further discussion. He emphasised that Chinese companies have huge opportunities to relocate their businesses to these priority SEZs. Pakistan is expecting feedback of Chinese experts on this visit.
Complete "reliance" on Chini blothers to give an "objective assessment" ? It shows that even "thinking" has been outsourced to China under gamechanger CPEC

No need to subsidize. Better option - stop buying paki cotton. Or, do what the chinese and the taiwanese do...set up textile manufacturing facilities in African nations and export from there at a lower price to compete with the pakis. I recently saw a Lesotho made pair of jeans in a retail store.

Paki TV Station Ignores PEMRA Order To Stop Telecasting Indian TV Channel !

Pemra to challenge SHC order allowing telecast of Indian dramas in Pakistan

The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) has decided to approach the Supreme Court (SC) against an interim order of the Sindh High Court to allow Urdu- 1 TV channel to air Indian teleplays. The SHC on Friday granted a stay to the private TV channel against the show-cause notices issued by the Pemra for airing Indian dramas. PEMRA vs Sind High Court . Will be interesting :D
In the interim order, the court has directed that the operation of the show-cause notices dated July 10, 11 and 12 were suspended and Pemra was restrained from issuing any further show-cause notice on the same facts and grounds as that of earlier notices. The airing of Indian content on electronic media channels was banned by the authority on October 19, 2016, following the brutal killings of the innocent Kashmiris, the use of pellet guns in Indian-held Kashmir and the killing of Burhan Muzaffar Wani. The awaam need their "fix" of Indian TV Entertainment . Kashmir politics be damned. Sind High Court agrees with them !
However, the channel started defying the ban from June 28, 2017, and kept violating the directives of the authority by airing Indian dramas and soaps continuously. On these reported violations, Pemra has sent seven such notices to the management of the channel between July 3 to 13. Former president Pervez Musharraf had allowed the telecast of Indian dramas in Pakistan in 2006.
 In anticipation of Kashmir being handed over to him, after his meeting with Indian PM ABV. !

"play a constructive role to improve relations between Pakistan, India." — File
India's Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Gopal Baglay has made it clear that India is, "ready to have a dialogue with Pakistan ... but in a bilateral framework," ANI reported on Thursday.

The MEA spokesperson should have said that India is ready to talk with Tibet-China for return of Aksai Chin!!

Badly Needed "Image Repair" Now Under Way :D

Pak High Commission starts “Emerging Pakistan” selfie contest in London

Millions of social media users are reaching, liking and sharing the images of London’s iconic double decker buses carrying brand Pakistan under the theme “Emerging Pakistan.”The Pakistan High Commission started this campaign two weeks ago and so far the response on the social media has been overwhelming. The images of buses sharing culture, history and landscape of Pakistan, on various routes of Central London, have gone viral and are getting hundreds of thousands of hits daily on social media, said a press release received here from London on Friday. Will surely reinforce the "negative image" of Pakistan. Bad timing, IMO. A sitting PM, accused- and found guilty - of massive corruption, refusing to step down. Image is like a mirror. Easy to break, hard to repair
Keeping in view the keen interest of the people in the campaign and to further augment their enthusiasm about Pakistan, the High Commission has started a unique Selfie Contest about the buses.Anyone can enter the contest by spotting the Pakistan branded buses in Central London, taking a selfie with them from a safe distance. The best selfie will receive the 70th Anniversary Award and will be recognised on the High Commission’s social media platforms. How is bankrupt Pakistan paying London Transit Authority for this advertising campaign. Hope the Advertising Agency hired for this campaign has received 100% advance from High Commission or their principals in Isloo !

If you really want to screw Pakistan, import all the Paki cotton you can, make it into yarn/fabric/garments and export. Outbid the Paki domestic industry for raw materials.

The British impoverished us not by economic boycott, but by sucking out low value raw material which we grew at gunpoint, and by dumping manufactured goods.

Another thing to import from Pakistan is sugar/sugarcane. This is an environmentally devastating and water intensive crop whose cultivation is better outsourced.

Paki Media Now Says That Pious And Namazi "Abbaji" AKA Mian Mohamed Sharif, F/O Ganja Sharif Also Turns Out To Be A Crook As Well

Mian Sharif’s wealth multiplied by 4 times in a year

LAHORE - The wealth of Mian Sharif multiplied by more than 4 times during 1992/93 from Rs 7.53 million to Rs 32.15 million when his son Nawaz Sharif was ruling the country, but sources were not available to determine the inflow of this income whereas there was no drastic decline in his assets during the timeframe of nationalisation as claimed by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. Ganja lying with a "straight face" !
This was revealed in the final report of the joint investigation team (JIT) probing the ruling family’s offshore business dealings. The JIT, in its report submitted to the Supreme Court, has also documented the assets of the late Mian Sharif, observing that his assets had not matched his known sources of income.
So, the "pious " scion of the Sharif family, popularly known as "Abbaji", with a rosary in his hand, 24/7 , has also now been found guilty of double dealing, fraud, cheating , whatever you may want to call it ( just his mentor Zia !). As the 275 page JIT Report is "studied" more and more juicy details are emerging shattering the carefully built image facade of the extended Sharif family  .

IMF, Pakistan fail to see eye to eye in assessment of economy

Global lender stresses exchange rate flexibility, while Islamabad remains optimistic.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and International Monetary Fund (IMF) remained poles apart in their assessment of the country’s economy, as Islamabad took an optimistic view of the external and fiscal sector while the global lender cautioned about emerging challenges that are posing risks to the favourable outlook.

The IMF once again sought significant devaluation of the Pakistani rupee against the US dollar to curb external sector challenges, as it said that foreign exchange reserves have already fallen “below a comfortable level”.

The IMF released on Thursday the Article-IV consultation report on the state of the economy that showed that there was a disagreement between it and Pakistani authorities over a number of issues. They had divergent views on the external sector vulnerabilities, slowing fiscal consolidation and structural reforms.

The IMF staff stressed that reversing the recent decline in foreign exchange reserves and allowing for greater exchange rate flexibility are needed to rebuild external buffers, which are below adequate levels.

It said that Pakistan’s real effective exchange rate is overvalued in the range of 10 to 20%, seeking “greater exchange rate flexibility, fiscal adjustment, and structural reforms” to correct the imbalance. The fund advocated that greater exchange rate flexibility would strengthen Pakistan’s competitiveness, which has been affected by real effective exchange appreciation.

The IMF said that the exchange rate continued to remain stable against the US dollar, supported by the State Bank of Pakistan’s (SBP) foreign exchange interventions, and further appreciated in real effective terms 6% during this fiscal year. Cumulatively, Pakistan’s real effective exchange rate appreciated 18% over the past three years, according to the IMF assessment.

“Resumption of accumulation of reserves – including through allowing downward exchange rate flexibility – is needed to further strengthen buffers while also supporting competitiveness,” it advised. Prudent monetary policy and greater exchange rate flexibility will be key, to preserve low inflation and re-build external buffers.

However, the IMF said that Pakistani authorities’ own assessment suggested significantly lower currency overvaluation. In addition, Pakistan viewed reserves as adequate as they cover more than three months of imports.

After an end of the $6.2 billion IMF programme in September last year, Pakistan’s external account has deteriorated at a rapid pace, exposing the hollowness of reforms under the three-year programme. The current account deficit has already widened to $10.6 billion, which is more than double the assessment of the IMF and Pakistan for the fiscal year ended on June 30. The IMF said that the structure of financial account of Pakistan showed reliance on debt issuance rather than on Foreign Direct Investment flows, which have been on a declining trend over the last decade.

“The pace of fiscal consolidation has slowed, public debt remains high, and mobilisation of tax revenue needs to be further strengthened,” it added. The IMF said that external vulnerabilities have increased with a widening current account deficit and rising medium-term external repayment obligations linked to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and other large investment projects.

Foreign exchange reserves have declined to $16.1 billion since the end of the EFF-supported programme and “remain below comfortable levels”. The $16.1 billion reserves are sufficient to finance only 3.4 months of imports. These reserves are inclusive of $3.6 billion that the SBP obtained through derivative position. The IMF said that $3.6 billion forward position could put additional pressure on reserves.

The IMF assessment showed that fiscal consolidation in Pakistan slowed substantially in fiscal year 2016-17. It added that the fiscal year 2017-18 budget is also subject to risks and reaching the deficit target will likely require significant additional revenue measures during the course of the year.

It advised Pakistan that gradual fiscal consolidation should continue through the medium-term to address debt-related vulnerabilities. A stronger consolidation in fiscal year 2017-18 than planned in the budget, in line with the deficit target under the revised FRDL Act, would have been preferable, it said.

The IMF said that public debt and fiscal deficit are projected to be above the ceilings set in the Fiscal Responsibility and Debt Limitation (FRDL) Act. It added that Pakistan will face increasing government and CPEC-related external repayment obligations, and external financing needs are projected to increase to nearly 7.5% of GDP over the medium-term, highlighting the need for macroeconomic and structural policies supporting competitiveness.

Domestic risks could arise from political polarisation in the pre-election period and security issues. In the staff’s view, fiscal pressures could rise during the period leading up to the mid-2018 general elections, and growth-supporting reforms could slow.

On the structural front, progress in electricity sector reforms has been mixed, with a renewed build-up in circular debt; and financial losses of ailing public sector enterprises (PSEs) have continued. The IMF staff stressed the need to strengthen DISCOs’ performance and adjust end-consumer tariffs to reflect higher input costs, also in view of upcoming increases in generation capacity.
