Why has the US admin allowed the post of US ambassador to India to remain vacant for 2 years?

That's a question that must be asked of the PoTUS/GoTUS. I think they will quote mitigating circumstances like Ted Cruz's 'technical hold' on all Ambassadorial appointments of Biden which has built up a long queue and then a court case involving the appointee for India. Of course, these are of no concern to us as it is their internal process. All it matters to us is that there is no US Ambassador in New Delhi. It may be that the non-appointment is hurting the US more than it hurts India.

Janet Yellen, in India for the first time as US Treasury Secretary, touted her vision for a new form of globalized trade and investment that aligns like-minded nations and downgrades the role of China.

“For too long, countries around the world have been overly dependent on risky countries or a single source for critical inputs,” Yellen said in remarks at a Microsoft Inc. facility in New Delhi on Friday. “We are proactively deepening economic integration with trusted trading partners like India.”

Yellen has spilled the beans. Economic integration = proxy control of world's soon to be 3rd largest economy.

She thinks India will fall for it and screw itself with this carrot and accept oil price cap, which is Yellen's own idea out of her musharraf. She has been sent to sell her idea to India whose onboarding is critical for this stoopid scheme to take off.

Nirmala Seetharaman will iron out Yellen's kinks and send her packing.

US warns Europe a conflict over Taiwan could cause global economic shock
Sharing of research comes amid rising concern about military action in the Indo-Pacific

The US has warned European countries that a conflict over Taiwan would trigger a huge global economic shock, in an effort to step up contingency planning amid rising concern about military action in the Indo-Pacific.

The state department has shared research with partners and allies that estimates that a Chinese blockade of Taiwan would spark $2.5tn in annual economic losses, according to six people familiar with the material, which was commissioned from the research firm Rhodium Group.

The stark warning has been shared with European Commission and European government officials, as the US and partners begin to think about how they could use sanctions against China over any military action against Taiwan. Washington is using the report to stress to European countries that a Taiwan conflict would have significant implications for them.

Cyrano ji,

The cheenis are beyond US control because of the very tight multi ecosystemic integration with the US which includes business, academic and financial domains. The overarching control and institutional influence that is now wielded by the hans who have over the many decades, overtly and covertly subverted the US state and associated social environs by use of ideology, bribery, technology theft and blackmail.

When you are up against such an opponent, you do not confront but urgently seek ways to collaborate, consolidate, mollify and mitigate.

The US has a one way dependency on the cheenis, built over decades of short sighted, self aggrandizing investments and foolish technology transfers that have now returned to bite the US in the ass.

yellen is the apex predator come to hunt us, while guilefully trying to convince us the we are being counted among the big game hunters.

अब रही बात भारत की....

Are we the with the hunters or are we the hunted...

yellen (a so called nobel prize winner 2001) has been specifically sent to overawe and bamboozle Nirmala Sitharaman, using the ye olde colonial strategy of divide and rule.

In truth, Nirmala Sitharaman's job and responsibilities are far more complex and byzantine than yellen's ever was, given the resource constrained, socially and politically restrained, commie tainted, weather gods' dependent troposphere that yellen wouldn't even be able to conceive of, let alone understand and operate in.

As one once colonized country to another once colonized country: Parkalaam

Cyrano ji, You are a smart guy

Pray tell us why is there such a familiar feeling of déjà vu when the term bali ka bakra is heard in India, whether specifically articulated or not.

Generally speaking, whenever a gora/gori arrives in India on official business, the bad vibes of "bali ka bakra" always precedes them.

The Indo britshit FTA is another case in point.

what they want from us and what they want to do to us in the very same agreement is a damningly familiar and age old east India company construct.

A master slave, colonizer relationship is once again sought to be perpetuated, with conglomerates like pfizer, bayer et al pulling strings from the dark shadows beyond.

The unmistakable déjà vu of "bali ka bakra" once again.

Chetak ji,
We are saying the same thing, though you say it with a lot more craft and wit than me.

Yellen is already making fake concessions - latest news is that India is being dropped from US currency manipulator watchlist on which we've been put for the past 2 years or so. Since when has "I'll stop bullying you" become a sign of friendship ?!

I doubt Nobel Yellen could have done half as good a job as as NS in keeping Indian economy out of troubled waters and orchestrating the strong and sustained bounce back we are seeing now. NS could do it precisely because she doesnt carry the baggage of sophisticated theories and models that Yellen does but goes by fairness and protection of the common Indian. For all their theorising and Nobels, western economies are run by policies made under the pressure of powerful business interests and elites.

Coming to can India play along by joining the hunters as China did? Well, its not a good comparison. I'd think US sought to coopt China to counter Russia and its Communist sphere and also because its an autocracy. As long as you man is in control, things will be predictable. Thats why the hopes of China becoming a democracy were quietly buried as US businesses moved in to take advantage of cheap labour and resources, and later a market. In the process they have let some expertise and IP leak through, not ignoring it or allowing it but seeing it as a necessary evil. US will be confident of getting 2 generations of innovation ahead by the time China masters the ill gotten IP.

India is a totally different kettle of fish. Non aligned, democratic, chaotic, new govt every 5 years, argumentative, smart... dealing with India is like wrestling with an octopus which has a separate brain to control each of its limbs. Moreover, having helped China become what it is today, would US want to repeat the experiment with India in this era?

India is already rising power and a big market, very different from the desperate state China was in the 70s. And US has to find other ways of dealing with India if it wants to bring and keep it firmly under US' sphere of influence. Either that or accept that India is already too big and most be dealt with as a new pole in the multipolar world.

I think US at present is undecided which way to go. The temptation to treat India as a "bali ka bakra" is high, but comes at the risk of developing more mistrust and distancing by India. So Yellen's mission now is not to set in motion some medium-long term engagement plan, but deal with immediate issues. Which is fine with India and NS.

The immediate issue is oil price cap which US & UK are desperate to hoist upon the world by Dec 5. Its Yellen's idea and she's here to sell it, because if they can sell it here the rest becomes very easy. But the contours are being kept hazy because either they are stuck to make it workable or want to signal some degree of accommodation is possible for some countries. Lets see what proposal Yellen comes up with...

To follow up and for my understanding, how much does India rely on the Western "services" that Yellen is talking about? I thought India had implemented an insurance mechanism of her own to cover Russian oil. ?????

I assume she will make Greek ships out-of-bounds for India - which should tick the Greeks off.

India can buy as much Russian oil as it wants, outside price cap, Yellen says
NEW DELHI, Nov 11 (Reuters) - The United States is happy for India to continue buying as much Russian oil as it wants, including at prices above a G7-imposed price cap mechanism, if it steers clear of Western insurance, finance and maritime services bound by the cap, U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said on Friday.

Janet Yellen is a proven incompetent. She is despised in SF Fed Bank where she was the head for sometime. She has no clue about economic impacts and is on the same class as Carly Fiorina of HP who tanked HP.

The oil price cap applies only to non-pipeline crude, and HS Puri in that CNN interview completely demolished that self righteous proposal, implying (my reading) that the proposal itself is aimed at us.

So Yellen will have a hard time selling it to us, to put it mildly.

This begs the question what is the use of QUAD. Ships can easily change ownership (panamanian registry) temporarily. Marine insurance is a tricky area. The Russians have already said that they can underwrite insurance coverage. The Indian side needs to come up with a mechanism for marine insurance. Just an aside LIC is clocking 10B profit a quarter.

I dont know how shipping works. Having said that..

Wet lease Greek/Cyriot tankers and sail them under a Indian flag.Get LIC to open a Lloyds type maritime insurance underwriting business.

Operate a tanker convoy from Russia to Kandla or wherever Russian crude is off loaded under an Indian Navy Destroyer escort to prevent mischief by "allies" like the US and its surrogates. LIke WW2 Murmansk to Halifax convoys with Destroyer escorts to keep Doenitz's Deutsch Kriegsmarine Type VII U-Boat wolf packs at bay.

If they could as casually blow up a pipeline that was a lifeline for a NATO member, what are a few ships laden with oil?

I have said this many times earlier. India better load up. Logic, UN Charters, or kutumbakam are worthless.

The time for data collection and analytics is gone.

This visit is one of the, if not the last salvo across the bow. I fully expect Reliance to be placed on some sanctions list next.

So much fearmongering and dhoti/lungi shivering!!!
Nirmala Sitaraman is not born yesterday.
She managed the economy with a whole range of detractors during two years of pandemic without raising taxes.
Yellen should tell her boss Biden that he should not have done FONOPS, delay vaccine precursors during the second wave, and so many hostile actions and claim to be in the Quad.
Having destroyed EU no one will ally with them.
KS garu said the US policy toward an ally is that of Delilah to Samson. (She made Samson powerless with haircut)
But Delilah was kind as she let the hair grow back. US won't let any hair grow back.

US will destroy the ally and not the enemy
They fear their enemies like China.

Have you seen amore dysfunctional administration?
The US administration has called on India to restore local bodies election & political rights of people in Kashmir. Assistant Secretary of State Donald Lu said that the US policy in Kashmir is unchanged, dispute should be settled between Pakistan and India through direct talks.

He also said, India should ensure that media is working freely in the region as it is necessary for peace adding that the US had held high-level discussion on human rights violations in India.

On F-16 deal with Pakistan, Lu said that it was not a military assistance but a business deal.
Level of diplomutts running the administration.
To me, it looks like there is no political guidance.
The minions are making policies to please a checked-out leader.

now, i wouldnt post articles like the one above, normally, individual and mass delusions are after all brave and stunning in the current era, however the following line did interest me
So how might India react if China attacked Taiwan? Although India can’t project much military power east of the Malacca Strait, it could still, in theory, do a lot. US officials quietly hope that India might grant access to its Andaman and Nicobar Islands, in the eastern Bay of Bengal, to facilitate a blockade of China’s oil supplies. The Indian Navy could help keep Chinese ships out of the Indian Ocean; perhaps the Indian Army could distract China by turning up the heat in the Himalayas.
This is the second time I have read of such, the first one was by some Indian-American (heavy emphasis on the American bit), which I posted in 2020; is this something that has traction with the wider self-appointed intelligentsia? or is this some collaborative outrageous kite-flying by the lower rung?
Armchair strategists might dream of opening a second front in the Himalayas, but India might be paralyzed by fear that openly aiding the US anywhere would simply give China a pretext to batter overmatched, unprepared Indian forces on their shared frontier.

The Modi government has been happy to have America’s help in dealing with India’s China problem but is far more reluctant to return the favor by courting trouble in the Western Pacific.

What India would do in a Taiwan conflict is really anyone’s guess. The most nuanced assessment I heard came from a longtime Indian diplomat. A decade ago, he said, India would definitely have sat on the sidelines. Today, support for Taiwan and the democratic coalition is conceivable, but not likely. After another five years of tension with China and cooperation with the Quad, though, who knows?

Optimists in Washington might take this assessment as evidence that India is moving in the right direction. Pessimists might point out that there is still a long way to go, and not much time to get there.

Usual dribble, but I do question, the us was the pioneer in systems philosophy, they should know theoretically better than others about the sensitivity of the linkages of sub -system-of-systems inside the wider ecosystem, for India, it should be pointing at a reading and interaction absolutely different from that they have identified; who is the audience for such pieces? people like me see this and mock, and are careful to post archive links so that further audience does not give them revenue by accident. Why then post such articles that quickly become outdated in this dynamic world? scream into the void if you must necessarily bloviate

Republicans win a thin majority at the House.

What will be the implications for India, as also, for ukraine.......

biden's reckless spending and short sighted support for ukraine may well be curbed, thereby directly degrading and weakening ukraine's efforts in the short to medium term

This is not a popular war for the US, there is hardly any public support for it at home and even less in many EU countries.

what's the game plan of the ameriki deep state that is actually pushing this disastrous debacle

India has between 170-180 oil tankers and a total of approx 1400 cargo ships which does not even put us among the top ten vessel owners in the world

https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/ne ... s?from=mdr

India is providing safety certification for dozens of ships managed by a Dubai subsidiary of top Russian shipping group Sovcomflot, official data showed, enabling oil exports to India and elsewhere after Western certifiers withdrew their services due to global sanctions against Moscow.

Data compiled from the IRClass website shows that it has certified more than 80 ships managed by SCF Management Services (Dubai) Ltd, a Dubai-based entity listed as a subsidiary on Sovcomflot's website.

An Indian shipping source familiar with the certification process said most of Sovcomflot's vessels had now migrated to IRClass, via the Dubai arm.

India's ship certifier is one of 11 members of the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS), top-tier certifiers that account for more than 90% of the world's cargo-carrying tonnage.

The Russia Maritime Register of Shipping was also part of the group until March, when its membership was withdrawn following a vote by 75% of IACS' members. Membership in IACS, which sets technical standards, typically makes a certifier more attractive for insurers, ports, flag registries and shipowners seeking safety assurances.

The four leading IACS members, from the UK, Norway, France and the United States, have stopped services to Russian companies due to the sanctions.

A spokesperson for IRClass, however, when asked about the certification data for Sovcomflot's fleet, responded: "Indian Register of Shipping, as an international ship classification society, reiterates that we have not classed vessels which are owned, flagged or managed by Russian companies."

The spokesperson declined to comment further on the matter, including on the Dubai unit's connection to its Russian parent.

Sovcomflot is subject to sanctions and other restrictions by the UK and the European Union, while W"IACS is not involved in the operational and commercial activities of its members, including appraisal, approval surveying and testing of vessels and equipment and the issuing of classification and statutory certificates where authorised," he said.

"As such, these developments do not get discussed within the association."

Sovcomflot's chief executive told reporters last week that the group had insured all its cargo ships with Russian insurers and the cover met international rules

People familiar with the situation told Reuters this month that state-controlled Russian National Reinsurance Company had become the main reinsurer of Russian ships, including Sovcomflot's fleet.
