just take pleasure from the thousands upon thousands of wokes, commies and liberandus all over India copiously weeping today.

this bonhomie was never a picture that they would have imagined in their worst and wildest nightmares

there is not a single person at the G-20 who today is unaware of Modi's achievements during the pandemic as well as the extremely prudent fiscal management that he has adopted to manage the economy.

staring down the tattered and bedraggled cheeni dragon is a bonus

What is striking is that neither of the 2 people are wearings masks, and talking with their faces so closer to each other. Biden is a getting a direct load of Modi's vocal blast. There isn't a bigger endorsement of the efficacy of Indian COVID vaccine than this picture. WHO be dammed.

In the picture of Modi and Biden, notice the fellow immediately behind Modi to the left. That is Alejandro Mayorkas, US Secretary of Homeland Security. Why is he following Modi and Biden and why is he there? There is a huge humanitarian crisis at the US southern border where organized crime of narco-criminal human traffickers, but the G20 meeting somehow takes precedence. US DHS employs 240,000 federal employees out of 2.1 million total, and the Secretary's position is very critical. It is a position equivalent to the Minister of Home Affairs in India.

Image

From the 2nd to the left, I am unable to identify the Indian person who is presumably an official from the MEA, but he's keeping his distance. It appears Mayorkas is Biden's handler at this time so Joe doesn't agree to something with Modi or say something off color. The lack of trust of the US president by his own cabinet and party members is remarkable.

Replace that with New York Times and wokes, commies and liberandus in the US, and you will have a complete picture of collective wailing in unison.

U.S. senators file bill to exempt India from sanctions over Russia deal
In an effort to counter China, Three Republican US senators said on Friday they filed legislation to exempt India from sanctions for purchasing a Russian S400 missile defense system, citing the importance of working with allies.
Reuters, 30 October 2021

Three Republican US senators said on Friday they filed legislation to exempt India from sanctions for purchasing a Russian S400 missile defense system, citing the importance of working with allies to stand up against China.
The bill, from Senators Ted Cruz, Todd Young and Roger Marshall, would create a 10-year exemption for member countries of the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue – Australia, Japan and India – from sanctions imposed by Caatsa, a sweeping 2017 law intended to punish countries that did business with, among others, Russia’s military.
The bill added to calls in Congress to waive sanctions for India
Republican Senator John Cornyn and Democratic Senator Mark Warner, in a letter to Biden on Tuesday, called for a waiver on the grounds of national security and broader cooperation.
The US’s Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA) could compel the Biden administration to impose sanctions on India when it takes delivery of the Russian S-400 air defense system at the end of 2021. This move could deal a blow to the relationship, and their Indo-Pacific strategies. But if Indian leaders can acknowledge the US’s ire with Russia, assume greater burden-sharing, and adopt realism in its dealings with DC, it might better position itself for a sanctions waiver.
The CAATSA legislation compels the US to impose secondary sanctions on any entity that does business with the Russian defense-industrial complex. The S-400 delivery to India would constitute such a trigger. Most experts conclude that US sanctions on India would be self-defeating as they would damage defense relations, raise concerns about US unreliability, and harm India’s ability to shape a balance of power in the Indo-Pacific.

India Deploys U.S. Weapons to Fortify Disputed Border With China
U.S.-India defense ties have strengthened to counter Beijing, with Chinook helicopters seen as a game changer near the border.
Sudhi Ranjan Sen, October 28, 2021

India has deployed recently acquired U.S.-made weaponry along its border with China, part of a new offensive force to bolster its capabilities as the countries remain deadlocked over disputed territory in the Himalayas.
The buildup in India’s northeast is centered on the Tawang Plateau adjoining Bhutan and Tibet, a piece of land claimed by China but controlled by India. It holds historical political and military significance: In 1959, the Dalai Lama fled to India across nearby mountain passes to escape a Chinese military operation. Three years later, both sides fought a war in the area.
Now U.S.-manufactured Chinook helicopters, ultra-light towed howitzers and rifles as well as domestically made supersonic cruise missiles and a new-age surveillance system will back Indian troops in areas bordering eastern Tibet. The weapons have all been acquired in the past few years as defense ties between the U.S. and India have strengthened due to rising concerns about Chinese assertiveness.
Indian military personnel escorted a group of reporters through the region last week to highlight the country’s new offensive capabilities. Eastern Army Commander Lieutenant General Manoj Pande said that boots, armor, artillery and air support were being combined to make the force “agile, lean and mean so that we can employ faster.”
“The Mountain Strike Corps is fully operationalized,” he said. “All units including combat and combat support units are fully raised and equipped.”
India has moved to bolster its defenses along the border with China after the worst fighting in decades last year led to the deaths of at least 20 Indian army personnel and four Chinese soldiers. While the two sides have engaged in talks to disengage, they have yet to agree on pulling back from a key flashpoint in another border area near the disputed area of Kashmir.
India’s deployments show a frustration with the lack of progress on talks with China, said Rajeswari Pillai Rajagopalan, director of the Centre for Security, Strategy and Technology at the Observer Research Foundation in New Delhi. “That we are looking at a second winter engaged at the border explains why India needs to work on building its capabilities and infrastructure at the border and source more equipment from partners like the U.S.,” she said.

He’s only been in office for 9 months and the administration has been busy with their agenda to create vote banks. Politics comes first for all US politicos before policy.

The real test will come once S-400 deliveries begin to India. The administration has kept silent so far, but with the freedom of navigation fiasco in India’s EEZ in April, without informing the IN, is a wake up call. Should the BJP lose the UP state elections in Feb/Mar 2022, watch for American fangs to come out.

^^^ Meanwhile Deepavali Day Act is getting introduced in US - which would/could enshrine Diwali as a federal holiday.
"Let’s celebrate light over darkness, the triumph of good over evil, and the pursuit of knowledge over ignorance during this special time of year!"
- Carolyn B. Maloney is introducing the act and it is cosponsored by a few US law makers.

This does not mean that everyone is going to get a day off for Diwali, unfortunately. Here everyone has to work practically everyday, with hardly any holidays in between. Even in Federally declared holidays, unless you are a federal/state worker, you usually work. For example Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. day and César Chávez day. Only in some states these are optional days off, in others you just have to work. And Diwali is not even in that list.

Federal holidays are when banks and the post office are closed. On most holidays stock exchanges are closed too. There are 11 federal holidays with the inclusion of Juneteenth and very unlikely there will be the addition of Diwali and proposing it as a holiday by Maloney seems to be pandering for campaign contributions. In India, there are 10 central government holidays.

On another note, how come Biden didn't pose with Indian Americans for photographs on Diwali like Trump or Obama did? We're his handlers not available on Thursday?

Along with the photograph, here is the meaningful statement from president Biden on Diwali.
Image

For perspective, I remember Diwali was not always that big deal in the White House. IIRC Diwali was first celebrated in the White House by George W. Bush in 2003. (Shamefully there was some back-lash from usual quarters about this function being characterized as "Islamaphobe" and POTUS chickened out to attend it personally next year etc)

Diwali's religious and historical significance was officially recognized by the US Congress in 2007.

Barack Obama became the first president to personally attend Diwali at the White House in 2009 - and lightning a Diya. A tradition which has continued.

As to trying to introduce a "federal holiday" act - IMHO it is quite significant just because of the fact that some congressmen are introducing it. For perspective, I recall, India's New York Consulate in earlier days observed Christmas, Thanksgiving, Eid, Guru Nanak Jayanti as holidays ( Consulate was closed on those days) but did *not* observed Dussehra or Diwali as Holiday.

Adding holidays to the federal government’s calendar is very significant from an administrative point of view. There are already 11 federal holidays and adding more is problematic in getting the business of the people done. The pandemic has slowed operations of the US passport service and IRS. If Diwali is added, then another holiday will have to be removed. As it is federal and postal employees get up to 39 days of leave not including the weekends and 11 federal holidays. Whichever congress critter is proposing another holiday is foolish at best and pandering at worst.

By the way, where are Biden’s pictures with Indian Americans? Statements are written by someone else and are meaninglessness. Bush being absent in 2004 was indeed a blot. Hopefully Biden didn’t poop in his pants or fart in front of dignitaries like he did in Europe.

Diwali photo ops and messages are not some new found love by US state machinery for all things Indian or Hindu. It merely reflects the fact that Hindu American-Indians are now recognised as a potent economic and political force to factor in (remember how they applied pressure when vaccine ingredients were blocked by the US, and recent backlash for Dismantling H conference ?).

And because they have done this for Hindus on Diwali, expect them to over compensate for the next desert cult festival day. So lets also say sweet things and thanks, and keep pressing for more.

US Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) is on the India Caucus and the first member of congress to write to the administration to waive CAATSA sanctions on India. Deliveries of the S-400 take place sometime at the end of this year or early next if Russia can deliver. The Russians are already nearly a year late. See link below.

It's amusing to see Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville (R-AL), a hardcore Trump loyalist, who defeated Jeff Sessions in the Alabama Republican primary in 2020.

The Congressional delegation noted the excellent management of COVID-19 situation in India in-spite of the challenges of large and diverse population. Prime Minister noted that people's participation based on democratic ethos of the country played a key role in managing the worst pandemic of the last one century,
It further stated that PM Modi and the visiting delegation noted the increasing convergence of strategic interests between the two strategic partners and expressed a desire to further enhance cooperation with an aim to promote global peace and stability.
PM Modi also exchanged views on the potential for enhancing the bilateral relationship and strengthening cooperation on contemporary global issues such as terrorism, climate change and reliable supply chains for critical technologies, the statement added.

Wanted to capture this philosophy as I see widespread usage of it in any media type ( print, cable, social etc.)
His quote is like a compass that orients this crazy era of American politics. "The Democrats don't matter," Bannon told Lewis. "The real opposition is the media. And the way to deal with them is to flood the zone with shit."
