Elections held in Lebanon, Hezbollah likely to make huge gains
Lebanon elects its first new parliament since 2009
6 May 2018

The last elections in the country were in 2009, for what was supposed to be a four-year term.

But parliament extended its term twice due to instability in neighbouring Syria, and to reform the country's electoral laws.

It changed the voting system, reduced the number of districts, and allowed expatriate voting for the first time.

Hezbollah, the armed group considered a terrorist organisation by the United States and others, is seeking to increase its parliamentary representation.

Voting for all 128 seats was supposed to close at 19:00 local time (16:00 GMT), however it was extendy an hour at some polling stations.

Turnout was 49.2%, compared to 54% in 2009, Interior Minister Nohad Machnouk said.

Official results are not expected until Monday or Tuesday.

Voters in the northern city of Tripoli cast their ballots
Tens of thousands of Lebanese citizens living aboard already cast their votes earlier this week - the first time such expatriate voting has been allowed.

The change is down to the new electoral system being used.

It reduces the number of districts, and uses a list-based proportional system for voting, with seats distributed among the various Christian and Islamic groups.

Lebanon has long had a power-sharing political system between the different religious denominations. The number of seats in parliament is split between Christians and Muslims, and the president, prime minister, and speaker of the parliament must each come from a specific religious background.

Current Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri caused a significant political crisis in November, when he fled the country for Saudi Arabia, announcing his resignation in a televised address in which he said he feared an assassination attempt.

He "suspended" his own resignation two weeks later after speaking to President Michel Aoun back in Lebanon, and withdrew his decision entirely in December.

The European Union said it had deployed election observers to all of Lebanon's voting districts.

Major issues facing the newly-elected parliament include the fate of a large number of refugees who have entered the country since the outbreak of the Syrian civil war, and continuing economic difficulties

Russia Balks at Arming Syria With Missiles After Netanyahu Talks
Russia has no plans currently to deliver advanced S-300 air-defense systems to Syria, President Vladimir Putin’s aide on military cooperation said, an apparent reversal following talks between the Russian leader and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.“We’re not discussing any deliveries of advanced new systems” to Syria, Vladimir Kozhin said in comments published on Friday by the pro-government Izvestia newspaper. The Syrian military has “everything it needs,” he said.Asked about the issue on a conference call with reporters Friday, Putin’s spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, said that Russia had never announced that it would supply the weapons though it maintains the right to respond as it sees fit to a recent U.S.-led attack on Syria.Russia alarmed Israel by raising the possibility of supplying the S-300 systems to Syria in the wake of strikes by the U.S., France and the U.K. last month in retaliation for an alleged chemical weapons attack by Bashar al-Assad’s regime. The systems could upset the balance of forces, making it harder for Israeli aircraft to penetrate Syrian territory. In recent years, Israel has repeatedly launched strikes aimed at the Iranian military as well Hezbollah, the Iranian-armed Shiite group in Lebanon that’s repeatedly fought with the Jewish state. On Thursday, the Israeli armed forces conducted the biggest raid inside Syria in at least 30 years, saying Iranian troops there had fired a barrage of missiles at the Israeli-held section of the Golan Heights.

Continuing discussion on Yoo Ess dhaga: I am quite 400% sure that the Iranians referred to the Palestinians (we had classmates of that ethnicity as well) as Philistines. The phonetics make sense: the "Ph" is what got "modernized" to P.

Sephardi Jews, also known as Sephardic Jews or Sephardim (Hebrew: סְפָרַדִּים‬, Modern Hebrew: Sefaraddim, Tiberian: Səp̄āraddîm; also יְהוּדֵי סְפָרַד‬ Ye'hude Sepharad, lit. "The Jews of Spain"), originally from Sepharad, Spain or the Iberian peninsula, are a Jewish ethnic division whose ethnogenesis and emergence as a distinct community of Jews coalesced during the early Middle Ages on the Iberian Peninsula. They established communities throughout areas of modern Spain and Portugal, where they traditionally resided, evolving what would become their distinctive characteristics and diasporic identity, which they took with them in their exile from Iberia beginning in the late 15th century to North Africa, Anatolia, the Levant, Southeastern and Southern Europe, as well as the Americas, and all other places of their exiled settlement, either alongside pre-existing co-religionists, or alone as the first Jews in new frontiers. Their millennial residence as an open and organised Jewish community in Iberia began to decline with the Reconquista and was brought to an end starting with the Alhambra Decree by Spain's Catholic Monarchs in 1492, which resulted in a combination of internal and external migrations, mass conversions and executions.

So the most ancient and pure jewish bloodline are the mizrahi of the middle east from pre bibilical times

The most ancient christians are probably the syrian orthodox church and the assyrian and greek and egyptian coptic orthodox in the next circle

Mostly they are weak and powerless vs the roman papacy back by euro money and power

Mizrahi Jews, Mizrahim (Hebrew: מזרחים‬‎) or al-Mashriqiyyūn (Arabic: المشرقيون‎), also referred to as Edot HaMizrach (עֲדוֹת-הַמִּזְרָח‬; "Communities of the East"; Mizrahi Hebrew: ʿEdot(h) Ha(m)Mizraḥ), Bene HaMizrah ("Sons of the East") or Oriental Jews,[10] are descendants of local Jewish communities in the Middle East from biblical times into the modern era. They include descendants of Babylonian Jews and Mountain Jews from modern Iraq, Syria, Bahrain, Kuwait, Dagestan, Azerbaijan, Iran, Uzbekistan, the Caucasus, Kurdistan, Afghanistan, India and Pakistan. Yemenite Jews, as well as North African Jews are sometimes also included, but their histories are separate from Babylonian Jewry.

Another ancient bloodline

Maghrebi Jews (Hebrew: מַגּרֶבִּים‬ Maghrebim or מַאגרֶבִּים‬) or North African Jews (יהודי צפון אפריקה‬ Yehudei Tzfon Africa) are Jews who had traditionally lived in the Maghreb region of North Africa (al-Maghrib, Arabic for "the west") under Arab rule during the Middle Ages. Established Jewish communities had existed in North Africa long before the arrival of Sephardi Jews, expelled from Portugal and Spain. Due to proximity, the term 'Maghrebi Jews' (Moroccan Jews, Algerian Jews, Tunisian Jews, and Libyan Jews) often refers to Egyptian Jews as well.

The oldest Jewish communities were present during Roman times and possibly as early as within Punic colonies of the Ancient Carthage period. Maghrebi Jews largely mixed with the newly arrived Sephardic Jews, beginning from the 13th century until the 16th century, eventually being overwhelmed by Sephardics and embracing the Sephardic Jewish identity in most cases.

Philistine is the word jews used in hebrew to denote anyone who was non-jew (gentile) yet native to the land of canaan. Or in other words were already around before jews arrived in the land. It's origin is from hebrew word the "Peleshet" which signifies foreigner or wanderer. In biblical Hebrew they become Pelishtim; in Greek, their land becomes Palestina, hence the terms Palestine and Philistine.

Thus the term "Philistines" means simply "non-Israelites of the Promised Land". But the hebrew scriptures like the Torah acknowledge the philistines as natives of canaan who are not supposed to be displaced.

Philistines are also acknowledged to be sea people who used to attack Egypt under Ramses III, and he defeated them and bought them into captivity in Egypt and settled them in fortresses in Egypt, and later he recruited them as mercenieries and resettled them in southern Canaan or modern day gaza, palestine where they established 5 cities which came to be known as philistia. The philistines ruled this land and the jews were their subjects. The Jews were paying a yearly tax to the Philistines, who were represented in Israel by a governor. This representative of the Philistine government did not allow the Jews to possess any armaments, for fear of a rebellion. Even farm implements that had to be sharpened had to be taken to the Philistine over Lords who, for a price, used to sharpen them. Not a sword was to be found in all Israel. Only Saul and his son Jonathan, possessed this priceless weapon. Saul was determined to expel the Philistines from the Hebrew territory.

Because these ancient philistim were in constant conflict with the jewry, they were given derogatory connotations which come to represent modern day philistine.

True the S400 radar can already scan most of Syria and across into med sea. Just keep adding more missile platforms to the already active system. What does Syria gain by adding additional S300s into the mix. Why do you need a pentium-iii platform when Intel 4 Core is already doing duty.

Russia has overplayed its hand; they are too vulnerable in Syria and have calculated appeasing Israel is the better alternative. Iran is being thrown under the bus and Syria will be allowed to get severely battered. The regime only needs to survive enough so Russia keeps its bases.

Not that the Russians ultimately had much choice in the matter. It was placate Israel or go to war with them (along with the United States). For Russia this meant a disastrous conventional defeat or nuclear WWIII. Not a desirable outcome either way. Appeasement was the only option.

Putin is a coward, and ultimately an unreliable ally.

Iran is learning that now. Serves them right. Hopefully the IRGC gets thoroughly decimated over the next few months.

As for Assad, he had to accept Russian assistance as the only game in town. It was either that or Gaddafi-land (a bayonet in the rectum followed by a pig-roast procession) for him. Now he has to deal with the limitations of Russian "friendship", as the Israelis make mincemeat of his forces with impunity while Russia (that valuable strategic partner) renegs on its promise to give him S300s.

It is astonishing to me that after all this, we continue to regard these fundamentally crooked Russians as reliable suppliers of defence materiel. They are even more likely than the US to betray us. If they could throw Iran & Syria under the bus for Israel's sake, just imagine how quickly they will stab India in the back when China snaps its fingers.

Russia would not have survived for so long were it for such simplistic thinking as exhibited here. Kremlin has a lot of jewish advisors who queer the pitch whenever Israel is involved. But an Israel that gets defeated in war by hezbollah is surely no match for Russia.
they are too vulnerable in Syria and have calculated appeasing Israel is the better alternative
they had many bases in Afghanistan, yet they lost popular support. Putin learnt from the afghan experience that it is not the number of bases that is important but hearts & minds, so in Syria that one 'vulnerable' base is more than enough for isis, jabhat and all rebels combined and as for the regional and global players who wish to destroy the base, do you think they will go back home to mamma after their deed is done ??

We do not know Russia's planning in this, it is some deep state within Kremlin planning against the deep state in USA+Israel+west european wannabe neo-colonists, here Russia is prepared to absorb small pin pricks but wants to keep the enemies guessing on when they will let loose the big ones. Ultimately one side will break up in sustained pressure. And considering history doesn't repeat twice, that ain't gonna be the Russians is what they wager.

Difference between super powers and regional powers is that super powers take great risks and gamble on geo-strategic ground to give them windfall. Lesser powers do not have cojones to take such big risks. They are more afraid of failure than they are in expecting rich rewards for their adventures.

Putin already turned the heat away from donbass & crimea with his Syrian intervention. He will seek to strike USA dollar hegemoney next. It is a full spectrum war being fought on economic, military and public narrative levels.

Everybody is fundamentally crooked in that they all look after their own interest. That Putin even went this far is rather impressive considering the limited resources available to Russia faced with the armed might of nato. Basically stonewalled regime change in Syria. Their task is to see that Assad doesn't fall and that they have ensured. To expect anything more is wishful thinking.

The russkis will bide their time and pick their fights until they feel their strategic deterrent is unstoppable ala the new programs recently showcased are deployable. Hard times mean priority to strategic weapons, conventional forces will be relatively neglected.

Now is the time for India to bargain hard for some good tech access with them.

There appears to be a tacit understanding between Russia and Israel on their "strikes" in Syria. These have really had limited results. The Iranian support to the Hiz is as strong as ever, in fact the His are probably militarily far stronger today than their last spat with Israel in Lebanon .
Assad is firmly entrenched with the US firing perhaps their last " parting shots " before exiting Syria.

All this would've been impossible without the Russian intervention and decisive and ruthless military action. The same strategy saw Russia checkmate the UKR and regain the Crimea a massive strategic prize.Russian military support is now being increased to both Iran and Syria with S series Sam's, plus other milware, only strengthening the mil. capability of these nations ensuring their survivability against their regional enemies. That's anything but betraying allies!

Dont confuse long drawn out Israel-Iran relationship and war with Russian invervention in Syria for its own reason.

If not for Russian Radar Coverage , Intel and Arms SAA wont have been able to take out PGM's either from US/NATO strikes or from Israel . These strikes are just small tactical battle it wont change the outcome of Syria post Russian intervention and as the situation remains on ground.

Israel is also Russian friend and on the day Strike was carried , Netanyahu was in Russia for V Day and Russians was kept in loop about the strike.

Most of the Strikes are done by ISrael either from within its airspace or from Lebanon Airspace so you cant do much other than defend from SAM , Short of strike inside Israel and war with Israel that would be opening another front they cant do much , neither Iran does nothing about it other than cursing and moaning

Why China is a SuperPower
New freight train connections usually have limited potential to make global headlines, but a new service launched from China on Thursday could be different. Its cargo — 1,150 tons of sunflower seeds — may appear unremarkable, but its destination is far more interesting: Tehran, the capital of Iran.

The launch of a new rail connection between Bayannur, in China’s Inner Mongolian Autonomous Region, and Iran was announced by the official news agency Xinhua on Thursday. Its exact path was not described in the dispatch, but travel times will apparently be shortened by at least 20 days in comparison to cargo ship. The sunflower seeds are now expected to arrive in Tehran in about two weeks.

While the seeds are making their steady progress across Asia, there’s a growing risk of Iran and Israel breaking into open conflict in the meantime. French President Emmanuel Macron has already predicted that the U.S. decision to pull out of the Iran deal would lead to war, especially after Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif warned that his country may restart suspended elements of its nuclear program if U.S. sanctions are imposed. Iranian rocket attacks Wednesday and subsequent Israeli retaliatory attacks early Thursday indicated how quickly the situation could escalate.

While the United States is now urging foreign companies to wind down their operations in Iran, China appears to be doing the opposite. Thursday’s launch of a freight train connection was only the latest measure that Beijing has taken to intensify trade relations with Iran, and there seem to be no plans so far to give in to U.S. demands.

During a media briefing Wednesday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said that Iran and China would “maintain normal economic ties and trade.”

“We will continue with our normal and transparent practical cooperation with Iran on the basis of not violating our international obligations,” he said. China faces the same problem that U.S. allies in Europe are currently facing: Even if European governments are opposed to new sanctions on Iran, European companies would have to abide by those rules or risk severe fines by the United States.

RD et al: Putin shows the other side of what it will take to bring biss to ME: The isloos have to recognize reality and give up on their notions of genociding Israel.
This is the central message that both DT and VP are conveying: DT through his all-out (apparent) support to Israel, VP through the limited defence of Syria while sitting on hands as Israel thrashes the Iranian Yahoo Crowd. Israel has "normalized" relations with KSA enough that Air India is flying regular service over KSA to and from Israel: there is no fundamental reason why Iran cannot also achieve peace and co-existence with Israel, they don't even have a common border. Israel rightly considers a massive Iranian Army in Syria to be a red line to their security even as Israel indulges in all sorts of nonsense in Syria and Lebanon. A reasonable settlement of that is a firm Israeli guarantee of non-meddling in Syria and Lebanon, in exchange for firm control with total cessation of cross-border temptations by the yahoos in Gaza, Syria and Lebanon.

So I don't see anything terrible about Putin backing off S-300 and wining&dining NutNYahoo. I feel fairly sure that NutNYahoo had a make a few comedowns to get Putin to back off the S-300.

There is a visible symbolism in the NutNYahoo visit to Russia to celebrate victory over Nazi Germany. Both Russia and Israel(is) remember the suffering due to that set of hate-mongers. And now they face a common enemy. Fundamentally, Putin hates and fears Isloo terrorism a heck of a lot more than he hates/fears Israelis, and he recognizes commonality of security concerns with Israel. Fact of life.

Putin had completely cold shouldered Nutnyahoo during victory day celebrations. Nutnyahoo was seated right next to Putin but Putin made no effort to strike up a converstion with him instead was seen showering all his attention to the serbian premier seated next to him.

Nuttanyahoo is walked around like a dog who’s not getting the attention he is asking for. He’s stumbling, has trouble to follow the pace and is being pushed around, and I also believe he’s making a threat and uttering a ****** you after it. :rotfl: The others are laughing about the situation, as Nutty is getting Putin’s usual jerk treatment. Later on in the vid, it’s clear Putin was not amused and Nutty is having a few concerns about the possible consequences of his outbreak.

In light of Russia’s new gains in foreign relations with Germany and soon, likely, with Italy and possibly France and Spain, one could argue that Russia’s restraint vis-a-vis Israeli aggression in Syria may be yielding some long term strategic gains that might have not been possible had Russia taken the Israeli bait ..

Dmitry Orlov has a different idea as to why the US tanked the Iran nuclear deal
"Following the Iranian revolution of 1978-79, Jimmy Carter froze Iran’s assets in the US. Ever since then, the US has been holding on to between $100 and $120 billion in Iranian assets, which have been accruing rent and interest. After the JCPOA, which stipulated the lifting of sanctions on Iran, Washington has been doing its best to drag its feet on releasing these assets, but they would have had to be returned to Iran sooner or later… unless the US pulled out of the deal, which it just did.”
what he is saying is that usa is broke and can not honour the cheque

Russian victory day parade you can see how HONORABLE Putin was when he stopped the parade and went back to get the veteran One Star General they (nutandyahoo body guards in all likelihood) push out of the way for a nutcase named “NutandYahooo”. Putin goes back and restores the One Star General's HONOR and RESPECT and DISTANCES himself from Nutandyahoo and puts the One Star General between them. He also stayed with him as they finished the Victory Day Parade.

Ever since then, the US has been holding on to between $100 and $120 billion in Iranian assets, which have been accruing rent and interest. After the JCPOA, which stipulated the lifting of sanctions on Iran, Washington has been doing its best to drag its feet on releasing these assets, but they would have had to be returned to Iran sooner or later… unless the US pulled out of the deal, which it just did.”
what he is saying is that USA is broke and can not honor the cheque
or the banks holding the money has no plan of giving it back! ..maybe trump would get interest free loans

Look at the height of the guy to the right and behind Putin  Must be from the same village as Jaws of 007 fame.

One of the tall guys is vucic, the serbian president.

This is RT’s feed now up on youtube. Try to watch it in HD, if you can.

Start at the 01.22.00 mark. Here is where Putin leaves the review stand for the last time to walk down the street to the ceremony area.

At 01.22.10 Putin motions to Vucic to join him in the walk. The nut© is already with Putin.

At 01.22.22 a brief melee where a very old one star general is shuffled out of the way. Putin then stops and goes over to the elderly general, has a brief chat then invites him to join in the walk. This I think is a jab at Trump.

At 01.23.02 the front line is, l to r, Vucic, Serbia’s President, Putin, the elderly general and The nut©. Behind the elderly general is Shoygu.

At 01.24.45 Vucic is motioned forward by Putin. Up to this point from the previous marker the elderly general and Putin have chatted. Vucic has generally stayed back from the front row while The nut© has more or less been right on top of the elderly general. Here Putin and Vucic start to chat a bit. Both Vucic and his interpreter were not expecting this interaction.

At 01.26.07 Vucic has dropped back a couple of steps and The nut© looks around for his own interpreter.

At 01.26.17, The nut© starts talking across the elderly general to Putin.

At 01.26.26 Putin and The nut© are now conversing through The nut©'s interpreter. There is a stern look on The nut© face.

At 01.26.28/29 The nut© appears to say fūck

At 01,26.33 Putin is smiling, Shoygu and Vucic also are cracking a smile having trouble believing what they are hearing. The elderly general maintains his stoic position beside Putin at all times. And the blood is starting to boil in The nut©.

At 01.26.35 The nut© appears to say bullßhït

At 01.26.48 The nut© is clearly issuing a threat to Putin, even though Putin has just displayed open arms to The nut©. There is a look of disbelief throughout on the face of The nut©s interpreter’s face.

At 01.26.50 The nut© appears to say fück you.

Note throughout these exchanges the growing hostility on The nut© face whereas it appears comical to the others.

What I see hear is a B grade street hussler trying a hussle at a trolley stop in North Philly.

No wonder he got nowhere with Putin in their meeting latter that day.

And I wager he said nothing to Putin about the impending attack he was planning on Syria either.
