Economy headed towards point of no return, warn businessmen

LAHORE: Pakistan’s economy is slowing heading towards a point of no return due to interference of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in economic matters, therefore, people at the helm of affairs must revisit the country’s policies, said the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) while painting a picture of difficult days ahead.

“I have identified 25 sectors that can help overcome the trade deficit,” LCCI President Malik Tahir Javaid said in a statement.

He decried that the industry was the main victim of the deepening economic crisis whereas rupee depreciation was adding to economic miseries of the country.

“All these ills were just because of the IMF’s interference in Pakistan’s economic matters and dictations to the policymakers to take harsh measures,” he said.

The LCCI chief pointed out that Pakistan governments often depended on borrowing from the IMF and in return accepted stringent conditions, adding the global lender always forced Pakistan to adopt bad policies like rupee depreciation and massive increases in electricity and gas tariffs.

“How a country can take independent decisions and its economy can grow when it is carrying a debt burden of over $85 billion and utilising a huge part of the federal budget on debt servicing,” he asked.

Though it was difficult to get rid of the massive loans, it was not impossible, he emphasised. “If Turkey can do it, then why we cannot,” he remarked.

CREATIVE COMMONS

Javaid, along with other office-bearers including Senior Vice President Khawaja Khawar Rashid and Vice President Zeshan Khalil, underscored the need for appointing a permanent finance minister.

At present, the portfolio of finance minister is under the prime minister’s control as per cabinet rules.

They clarified that the business community knew that there was no overnight solution to the economic woes, but there was a dire need to set direction and introduce economic reforms in favour of the trade and industry.

Pakistan faced various economic challenges last year including a decline in exports and foreign direct investment, lowest tax-to-gross domestic product ratio and inefficiency of public sector enterprises.

These challenges could be addressed through meaningful partnership and dialogue between the government and private sector, they suggested.

Saying that there were a number of issues that must be tackled head-on, they pointed out that the biggest one was how to keep the growth momentum going following less-than-targeted expansion of the agriculture and manufacturing sectors. The second big challenge is the widening gap between exports and imports that could be bridged by enhancing shipments to overseas markets.

ISIS claims responsibility for Quetta church blast

At least nine people were killed and more than 50 wounded when two suicide bombers attacked a church in Quetta during a service Sunday, just over a week before Christmas, police said.

Two women were among the dead at a Methodist church, said provincial Home Secretary Akbar Harifal.

Several of the wounded were in serious condition, police added.

Officials said security forces intercepted and shot one bomber outside but the second attacker managed to reach the church 's main door where he blew himself up.

"Police were quick to react and stop the attackers from entering into the main hall," provincial police chief Moazzam Jah told AFP.

Balochistan Home Minister Sarfraz Bugti said around 250 people normally attend the church on Sundays, but the congregation had swelled to around 400 because it was close to Christmas.

"God forbid, if the terrorists had succeeded in their plans more than 400 precious lives would have been at stake," tweeted the home minister.

An AFP reporter at the scene saw shattered pews, shoes and broken musical instruments littered across the blood-smeared floor of the church .

Islamic State claimed responsiblity, saying two ISIS members had carried out the attack but provided no evidence for the claim.

Christians make up an estimated 1.6 per cent of Pakistan's 200 million people and have long faced discrimination - sidelined into lowly paid jobs and sometimes the target of trumped-up blasphemy charges.

Along with other religious minorities, the community has also been hit by Islamic militants over the years.

In 2016 Lahore suffered one of Pakistan's deadliest attacks during the Easter season - a suicide bomb in a park that killed more than 70 people including many children.

The bombing was later claimed by the Jamaat ul Ahrar faction of the Pakistani Taliban.

Police and troops have been battling Islamist and nationalist insurgencies in mineral-rich Balochistan for more than a decade.

Balochistan , bordering Iran and Afghanistan, is the largest of the country's four provinces but its roughly seven million inhabitants have long argued they do not get a fair share of its vast gas and mineral wealth.

Efforts to promote peace and development have reduced the violence considerably in recent years.

The push includes ongoing work on a mammoth Chinese infrastructure project - the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor - which will provide Beijing with a modern-day Silk Road to the Arabian Sea through Balochistan 's deep-sea port of Gwadar.

Launda-Baaz Cum Randi-Baaz Sheikh Rashid Has A "Soft Corner" For The First Mrs Imran Khan :D

Sheikh Rashid asks Imran to bring Jemima in Pakistan’s politics
OKARA – Awami Muslim League (AML) Chairman Sheikh Rashid Ahmed advised Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan to introduce his former wife Jemima to Pakistan’s politics.
“The entire nation wants Imran Khan to bring Jemima to Pakistan’s politics. If not then I swear I will bring her to my political gathering.”
In reply, Imran Khan cautioned Sheikh Rashid for revisiting the past, saying the Nawaz Sharif and his aides in the Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) harassed and intimated her and even accused her of being part of the Jewish lobby. Firstly, Immy is hinting to Rashid, that he "may be crossing the line" with these kind of statements. Secondly, Immy is well aware that under Sharia, Jemima may have to undergo a "complicated Islamic ritual" if he wants to again tie the knot with her . Thirdly, "one taste of Pakiland", is enough for Jemima, so the matter is a shut case
Imran said Sharif brothers had filed forged cases against her and forced her to stay out of the country for several months. “They (Sharif brothers) should be ashamed of filing forged case against an innocent young girl,” he added. Immy is "right" in describing Jemima as an innocent girl. Hell, there is a difference of 24 years between the Kaptaan and Jemima . And at 60 + Imran's hormones are still active as ever

Will Immigration Controls Be Fooled By The New Green Book : The Paki E - Passport
.ISLAMABAD – Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal on Wednesday said that -passports will be issued to citizens starting from next year. The minister added that the electronic passport will first be issued for diplomats in March 2018 and for citizens in June 2018.In the e-passports, a microchip will be embedded which will have all details about the travelers. The new technology will help in preventing use of forged documents.Earlier, it was supposed that the Passports and Immigration Office will begin the process by the running year but it faced delay after questions were raised over the transparency of the project. It is to mention here that the project had been initiated by then interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan in 2016.Director General Passports and Immigration Usman Bajwa (sifarish  ) singed a contract with a French company, Gemalto, for the preparation of the passports. Hope immigration control at airports are not fooled by the "New Edition" of the notorious "Green Book"

I am worried about El-Bakistan's electricity crisis.
This CPEC is wreaking the economy of El-Bakistan.

If the nation had seriously pursued Pindigenous Djinn tecknology and extracted electricity from Djinns, the country would have been a super power
Somehow if they could channalize HAARP tecknology and Djinn research and use it to advance development in El-Bakistan, that will make the country a superpower overnight.

I call upon all the maulanas, SUAR-CO scientists, and Dr Xerox Khan and other Nuclear Scientists to stop whatever they are doing (It is a waste of time anyways) and devote themselves to deep research into Jinn Teknology

AoA to that !

Saudi-led coalition airstrike hits wedding ceremony in Yemen killing 10 women
I think, we should.

I won't be surprised if Gen. Raheel happens to be the brain behind such cruel attacks for the following reasons:
  1. The Pakistani Army and its Air Force have since 1948 attacked its own people all over Pakistan to coerce them to fall in line. This is particularly so in Balochistan since 1948 and all over FATA since 2002. The Army has employed artillery while the Air Force fighter jets to drop bombs & rockets and gunships to strafe.
  2. The Pakistani Army, in a massive genocide of its own people, killed 10 million Bengalis and sent another 10 million as refugees to India
  3. Gen. Zia-ul-Haq had no compunctions when he (then a Brigadier) led the Jordanian armour in (1967-1970) an operation code-named Op. Black September, against helpless Palestenians refugees massacaring thousands of them in 1970-1971 in camps at Irbid, Salt, Sweileh,Baq'aa, Wehdat and Zarqa . More Palestenians were reported to have died in that operation than at Israeli hands in the previous twenty years. The massacre followed the decision of King Hussein of Jordan to ally with the US after the 1967 six-day war between Israel and Egypt, a decision that the Palestenians in the Jordanian refugee camps resented. As The Jordanian King decorated Brig. Zia with the highest medal of ‘Order of Valiance’, the Palestenians equated him with the Israeli General Ariel Sharon.
Rest assured that proof of Gen. Raheel's complicity would emerge shortly.

Myth Of Paki Supreme Court incorruptible Is Totally False As Per This Anal-list

Fighting corruption
One of the biggest myths of our times is that the Supreme Court is the last bastion against organised corruption and, with sword and sickle in hand, judges are slashing well-entrenched leeches that are bleeding the country white. Like all myths, this is good as a sweet bedtime story at the end of a rough day, but it bears no relevance to reality. The carefully cultivated image of the Paki Supreme Court shattered !
As last week’s verdicts indicate, the more the myth is prolonged the greater the damage to the judiciary’s ability to perform its core functions, including providing justice and generating jurisprudence that sorts out institutional chaos in the long run. There are good reasons to assert that this myth of the superior judiciary being a vanguard of the national treasury, fighting hideous criminals and busting gangs of dacoits has made the national effort against corruption harder, if not impossible. Supreme court judges, like other bureaucrats can be "purchased" with the right consideration by the Deep State, being it money, intimidation, incentives etc etc
There are equally convincing reasons to argue that the courts are being dragged into a marshland of dirty politics that can stain their reputation beyond redemption, wrecking their credibility and alarmingly pitting them against parliament which sees its power being usurped. The military has got its hands full on all fronts, including the war front
They had to send a sitting prime minister packing – not by unearthing hidden heaps of stolen money but by using a bizarre technicality that at times is too embarrassing to be cited as a reference in serious cases before other benches. The ‘anti-mega corruption’ drive of the Supreme Court’s Khosa bench had to rely on the same National Accountability Bureau that they took the life out of by criticising. It is the same NAB which is now being dragged in the mud by the PTI because of its alleged ‘collusion’ to get Shahbaz Sharif and the rest off the hook in the Hudaibiya paper mill case. Examples ![/quote]
Corruption is rampant. It is firmly rooted. It is systemic. It thrives on the noxious nexuses of land, banking systems, offshore accounts and companies, discretionary powers, secret funds, building contracts, real estate and the absence of a legal system that could hold back its rampaging and rapacious hands. Corruption has many crevices and layers to hide in, but now the newest and the most prominent one is the smoke and mirrors that the Supreme Court is creating ‘naya Pakistan’. That the judges will deliver us an honest system.
The illusion and the myth that has given it birth is the biggest guarantee that the corrupt of Pakistan are using to continue to ride their gravy trains. They have no fear as the Supreme Court cannot take up every corruption case. At any rate, it is so consumed by the politics of corruption cases that there is hardly any scope left to evaluate corruption as a systemic ailment and not an individual act. As they say, the road to hell is paved with good intentions. In our case, it is paved with popular judgments that focus on individuals but do nothing to go to the heart of the matter.

Pakistan mulls using Chinese currency in bilateral trade

Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal has said that Pakistan is considering using the Chinese Yuan instead of the US dollar for bilateral trade to avoid constant currency conversion.

Iqbal, who’s also heading the planning ministry, said this at the inauguration ceremony of the Long-Term Plan of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) in Islamabad on Monday, Express News reported.

China has also been pressing Pakistan to allow the use of the renminbi (RMB) – the official name of its currency – as a currency in the Gwadar Free Zone. This will be the next Step!

Pakistan rejected the proposal last month, saying such a move would compromise its ‘economic sovereignty’.

Iqbal reiterated that the use RMB or any other currency would not be permitted in Pakistan, adding that consideration is being given to using RMB for trade between Pakistan and China only.

Missing!

Interior ministry unaware of whereabouts of Pakistan's first flag, NA told
The interior ministry on Monday informed the National Assembly that it was unaware of the whereabouts of the national flag which was presented by Pakistan's first prime minister Liaquat Ali Khan during the first meeting of the constituent assembly on August 11, 1947.
So, not only can't the pakis find the recording of the first radio broadcast by djinnah ("you can safely go to your dargahs, imambarahs, masjids...but be aware of the Hindus and Jews"), they are unable to locate the original flag. It's like it (freedom from the evil Yindoos) never happened.

Chinese Take "Pakis For A Ride" At Least Till 2030 :D

Pakistan, China say economic partners till 2030
Pakistan and China on Monday unveiled a long-term cooperation plan in economic development envisioning cooperation until at least 2030 in areas ranging from infrastructure to information technology.
The document did not, however, give specific details on the projects, such as terms and conditions of investments and loans, nor did it provide details for Special Economic Zones, some of which are already underway in Pakistan . The mantra of "the devil is in the details" holds true in this case . The Paki public kept in the dark, the Paki Senate and National Assembly are "howling" for disclosure. The Chinese have set up a trial balloon saying that "no other currency except Yuan" will be legal tender in Gawadar . All this does not seem to make any difference. Wait till the Mullahs raise the cry of "Malsi in danger"
The long term plan highlighted key cooperation areas between the two neighbors, which included connectivity with a road and rail infrastructure, information network infrastructure, energy, trade and industrial parks, agriculture, poverty alleviation and tourism. :(( Sover-virginity sold to the Chinis !

How will this work, exactly? I have been scratching my head for 5 mins trying to figure out the logic here, and what the benefit to Pakistan would be, given the skew in trade in favour of the Chinese.
Interesting photo in that link. Sari-clad motorhams and not a beard in sight. Shows the massive 'progress' Pakistan has made in the last 70 years (towards their goal of going back to the 7th century).

Step 1. Inter govt trade in RMB
Step 2. RMB in Gwadar and other areas
Step 3. Chinese police to protect Chinese assets (hey wait, PA can do the job cheaper and are more expendable so something like Chinese commissar for supporting local police)
Step 4. Other Chinese officials pour in, a lot of Chinese are seen in paki cities eating polka in 'Ramadan' and not Ramzan as it used to be.
Step 5. Islam in danger, Pakistan in threat, they'll reach out to Saudi/US/India or Martians for saving the beacon of Islam. The game of playing one against other begins again. They lose PoK and some other parts (Baloch, Sindh)to save Pakistan the land of pure.
Step 6. Start fighting against India again for backstabbing in the name of saving from China. Start the perpetual cycle of stupidity again

US sides with India, ignores Pakistan’s sacrifices, says Janjua

ISLAMABAD: Launching an unprecedented broadside against the United States, National Security Adviser (NSA) Lt Gen (retd) Nasser Khan Janjua has said that Washington has opted to side with New Delhi against Islamabad and “ignored our enormous sacrifices in the fight against terrorism”.

“India is being given priority over Pakistan in Afghanistan, something that will shape the political and strategic dynamics of the war-torn country,” he said on Monday while addressing a seminar organised by the Centre for Global and Strategic Studies (CGSS), a think tank recently established by Inter-Service Intelligence (ISI) former chief Lt Gen (retd) Zaheerul Islam.

The NSA was unusually candid and blunt, suggesting the growing unease within Pakistani policymakers over the US President Donald Trump’s apparent tilt towards India. He said the US had opted to side with India against Pakistan and now India and the US were now on the same page even on Kashmir issue.

Gen Janjua insisted that the US wrongly accused Pakistan for its failure in Afghanistan. He also accused Washington of opposing the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project.

Responding to the critics of Pakistan’s fight against terrorism, the NSA said Pakistan started facing the hard times after the soviet invasion but received a colossal blow after the 9/11 attacks and Pakistan’s decision to become a frontline ally of the United States in the war on terror.

“Pakistan is blamed of instigating instability in Afghanistan, but it is pertinent to mention that Pakistan has never supported and never provided safe heavens to the terrorist organisations,” he said, dismissing allegations that Pakistan was backing the Haqqani network.

He said Pakistan had to endure huge losses and sacrificed thousands of life in war on terrorism. “But the global powers have always acted unfavourable towards Pakistan’s efforts, and its hard work to curtail the menace of terrorism has never been appreciated by the International community,” he said.

On Balochistan situation, he claimed that it was just because of the efforts by the Pakistani armed forces that the terrorists had surrendered and now in Balochistan province of Pakistan, they were hailing ‘Jevay Balochistan – Jevay Pakistan’.

The CGSS Chairman Lt Gen Islam also spoke briefly at the seminar and insisted that national security policy was incomplete without input from all stakeholders. He put emphasis on the need for candid discussions on the security policy. This was his first public appearance since his retirement in Nov 2014.

Lt Gen (retd) Haroon Aslam, who was the senior most general when Raheel Sharif was appointed as the army chief by then prime minister Nawaz Sharif in November 2013, highlighted the background which mainly contributed to the challenges Pakistan faces today.

The daylong seminar was also attended by speakers from China and some other countries.

Terroristan tried to avoid using Chinese Currency but got crushed by the Chinese Boot and now Chinese Currency is KING IN TERRORISTAN!

Chinese currency to get same status as the US dollar in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The Long-Term Plan (LTP) of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) envisages Pakistan giving the Chinese currency a status at par with that enjoyed by the US dollar, laying the foundation of boosting the financial bond between the ‘all-weather strategic partners’.

Planning and Development Minister Ahsan Iqbal and Chinese Ambassador Yao Jing on Monday launched the plan for 2017-30 that set out the building conditions of CPEC. The document underlines that governance deficiencies and uneven regional development in Pakistan are challenges to CPEC’s implementation. It also highlights risks from adjustments of foreign policies of the ‘world powers’ towards this region.

Among the most salient features of the plan are treating renminbi (RMB) equal to the United States dollar and allowing Chinese investment in agricultural production.

The decision to use renminbi as the second international currency will lessen Pakistan’s reliance on dollar. “Pakistan shall promote the construction of Gwadar Port Free Zone and explore RMB offshore financial business in Gwadar Free Zone,” the plan says. Both countries shall strengthen financial cooperation between their free trade zones and explore the formation of an RMB backflow mechanism, it adds.

“The use of Chinese currency in place of US dollar will benefit Pakistan,” the planning minister told The Express Tribune. He said the RMB could be used in bilateral trade but not inside Pakistan. “The use of Chinese currency will reduce our reliance on the US dollar,” Iqbal said. He said China desired that RMB be used for all financial and commercial transactions between the two countries.

Pakistan has taken a bold step by accepting the Chinese demand, as the country’s foreign exchange regime currently allows only the use of dollar for international trade. The decision, which may take up to three years to implement, will extend to the RMB all the incentives currently available to the greenback, according to government officials.

The long-term plan states that the two countries should promote monetary cooperation between their central banks and explore enhancing the scope of bilateral currency swaps. They will also assign the foreign currency to domestic banks through credit-based bids to support financing for projects along CPEC and promote settlements in RMB and rupees to reduce the demand for third-party currency.

“The two sides will also actively explore use of bilateral currencies for the settlement of bilateral trade and investment under the relevant arrangements,” it says. They will encourage clearing and settlement for the financial institutions from both sides through a Cross-Border Inter-Bank Payment System, promote free flow of capital in an orderly manner and enhance facilitation of cross-border transfer of legitimate funds.

Not only that, “both countries shall …establish and improve a cross-border credit system and promote financial services such as export credit, project financing, syndicated loan, trade finance, investment bank, cross-border RMB business, financial market, assets management, e-bank and financial lease; support the project financing by RMB loans and establish the evaluation model of power bill in RMB.”

Pakistan’s federal and provincial governments, enterprises and financial institutions will explore effective ways to conduct RMB financing in Mainland China, Hong Kong and other offshore RMB centres. Chinese and Pakistani market players will be supported and encouraged to finance projects related to CPEC in the international market and Pakistan.

“By no means is the LTP final and perfect, as it can be adjusted according to the ground realities,” said Yao, the new Chinese Ambassador in Islamabad. He said that the plan demonstrated China’s long-term commitment to Pakistan’s development. The ambassador expressed hope that other neighbouring countries would get benefit from the Chinese development model that was based on fairness and mutual respect.

The plan also strikes a note of caution — “as long as the governments and people of the two countries treat each other with all sincerity and cooperate sincerely, they will build the CPEC into an open, inclusive one with economic prosperity, social stability and security, and the wellbeing of people”. Both governments acknowledge that the plan has an ambitious goal and an arduous task.

The document defines CPEC as “a growth axis and a development belt featuring complementary advantages, collaboration, mutual benefits and common prosperity”. The long-term cooperation is built around seven pillars that cover every possible aspect of economic and financial cooperation.

The corridor’s core and radiation zones present the spatial layout of “one belt, three axes and several passages”. “The CPEC will greatly speed up the industrialisation and urbanisation process in Pakistan and help it grow into a highly inclusive, globally competitive and prosperous country capable of providing high-quality life to its citizens.”

However, it has been cautioned that Pakistan needs to address major bottlenecks to economic and social development to sustain the economic growth momentum. “The energy, infrastructure, administration and governance deficiencies, besides unbalanced regional economic and social development, and external sector vulnerabilities need to be monitored to avoid any possible challenge to CPEC.”

Timeline of goals

According to the plan, CPEC should take the initial shape by 2020 and have its basic construction done by 2025 with the industrial system approximately complete and major economic functions brought into play in a holistic way. By 2030, the building phase should be accomplished, the endogenous mechanism for sustainable economic growth in place and CPEC’s role in stimulating economic growth in Central and South Asia brought into holistic play. South Asia shall grow into an international economic zone with global influence.

It says the commercial projects should be operated in a market-oriented way; quasi-commercial major infrastructure projects may adopt the public-private partnership mode and non-commercial projects concerning people’s livelihood should involve multiple participants and be implemented through fair competition.

The plan lays emphasis on capacity expansion of railway lines and new projects. In the energy sector, the cooperation will be for the development of oil and gas resources and establishing refineries and storages along the route will be considered. Both countries will actively promote river planning and preparatory work of major projects to accelerate hydro-electric power development.

Pakistan’s industries will be encouraged to move away from assembling imported parts and components to localised production and Chinese enterprises to enter the Pakistan market for developing energy-efficient industry.

Both countries will promote industrial capacity cooperation in sectors such as chemical and pharmaceutical, engineering goods, agro, iron and steel, light manufacturing and home appliances and construction material.

Agriculture sector

China and Pakistan should give full play to their own comparative advantages to strengthen agricultural infrastructure construction within the CPEC coverage, the plan says. It calls for cooperation in biological breeding, production, processing, storage and transportation; infrastructure construction; disease prevention and control; water resources utilisation, conservation and protection; land development and remediation; ICT-enabled agriculture and marketing of agricultural products. The aim is to promote systematic, large-scale, standardised and intensified construction of agricultural industry.

China will cooperate for strengthening drip irrigation technology and improving post-harvest handling, storage and transportation of products.

The plan also says the countries should exploit the tourism resources in regions along CPEC, especially the border areas.

Wish Janjua had mentioned how the ISI has sponsored terrorism against US Troops and Afghan Nationals the same as they do against Indians.
Wish he had also mentioned that the army that he retired from actively trains terrorists to carry out attacks against all of Pakistan's neighbours.

Pakistan has 4 neighbours and the ISI trains terrorists against all 4 of them.

Fauji Land Scam AKA Defence Housing Authority ( DHA )

The DHA City juggernaut rolls on in the name of development
Ibrahim Kachelo’s run-in with the most powerful development authority in Pakistan happened in early October. “I was returning from a check-up when I saw a group of people, accompanied by armed guards, putting up concrete DHA markers on and around my land,” says the farmer, his weather-beaten face flushed with indignation.“I told them to leave, that I have a lease for it but they wouldn’t listen.” Furious, Mr Kachelo knocked down the markers in the DHA officials’ presence, the guards drew their guns and a brawl ensued. This scenario has probably been repeated many times all over Pakistan !
The men retreated, but Mr Kachelo fears that was not the last he has seen of them. His reaction stemmed not only from anger, but fear — fear that he will be driven from the land that has been in his family for generations. After all, he has seen it happen to others not too far from where his orchard is located along the northbound track of Superhighway in Malir, the largest of Karachi’s six districts.
On the opposite side, along the highway’s southbound track, the DHA City Karachi (DCK) housing project is under construction on 11,640 acres in deh Abdar and deh Khadeji (a deh is the smallest revenue unit for land in Sindh, similar to ‘mauza’ in the rest of the country).
Metalled roads and farmhouses have erased the pastureland where livestock belonging to the villagers used to graze, and the villages themselves have either been walled off or are in the process of being so as construction of the housing community proceeds.
The ‘visit’ by the officials of the Defence Housing Authority, Karachi to Mr Kachelo’s land was in connection with the expansion of DCK along the highway’s northbound track, specifically over 8,000 acres in dehs Kathore and Boil.Mr Kachelo’s land in deh Boil has been in his family since generations; he himself has been cultivating it for 40 years. A rocky outcrop affords a bird’s eye view of the huge orchard, dense with guava trees.
In early 2017, officials from DCK across the highway began to pay regular visits, pressing them to give up their land, carrying out surveys of the area and marking the boundaries of the housing project.“They told us, ‘Look, this is a fauji idara [army institution], if it wants to enter this place you can’t stop it’,” said one of the villagers. “But how can we leave? This is not about money. Our zameen is like our mother, it sustains us.”
Farmers in dehs Kathore and Boil were renewing their leases regularly, paying their dues and cultivating crops as per the conditions of their lease.A number of them have filed joint petitions against the cancellation of their leases, naming officials in the Sindh government and DHA, Karachi as respondents. It is no less than a David and Goliath struggle playing out in the backyard of Pakistan’s largest city.
It was on May 6, 2011, when a letter — DHA/TP&BC/ 108/ DCK — from then DHA Administrator Brigadier Aamer Raza Qureshi to the then Sindh chief minister Qaim Ali Shah set in motion events that were to have far-reaching repercussions on the lives of the people in these parts of Malir. The letter, which is in Dawn’s possession, thanks the Sindh government for allotting the first chunk of 11,640 acres at a concessional rate.It goes on to state that, “However, the land that DHA had earlier acquired from the Govt of Sindh is insufficient to meet this demand. The requirement of additional land has become imperative in view of the increasing number of casualties of the armed forces personnel in the War against Terror. But according to ISPR, the War On Terror has already been won
The locals’ appeals to authorities about the imminent loss of their land have been similarly ignored. In a small provisions store in deh Boil, amidst the shelves of juice boxes, packets of crisps and other assorted items, local councillor Karim Bakhsh Chutta opened a small, battered case.
It contained documentation of the residents’ struggle against DHA Karachi on the one hand and Bahria Town Karachi (BTK) on the other, two behemoths squeezing them from both sides in a pincer movement. There are letters to the Sindh chief minister, Rangers, police, etc asking for their help in preventing the takeover of their thriving farmland. All have gone unanswered.Having run out of options, residents of Abdul Rehman Chhutto goth in deh Boil have filed a constitutional petition No. 6504/2017 against the Sindh government and DHA Karachi. In it, they denied that their leased agricultural lands — which add up to 229 acres, aside from the 18 acres on which stands goth Abdul Rehman which was regularised under the Gothabad Scheme Act, 1987 — had not, as claimed by the provincial government, lain undeveloped in violation of the lease terms. In Pakistan, whatever fauj wants, fauj gets !
According to news reports, on Oct 7, 2017, the Sindh government has transferred an additional 8,500 acres of land to the army in district Jamshoro for the families of the martyred at the rate of Rs15,000 per acre.Meanwhile, the DHA City juggernaut continues to roll on in the name of development.

by Falijee. Not far from the Gurdwara Shaheed Ganj lies the spot where Mani Singh was hacked to death by Zakarya Khan, who was Lahore’s governor a little before Mir Mannu’s time.
Bhai Mani singh was head Granthi of Golden Temple he was granted permission to have a diwali fair at golden trmple (Sikhs always had two fairs Diwali and Visakhi) . So 1 day before festival Mughals arrested him and took him to Lahore., where he was asked to convert he refused so his body was cut piece by piece and he refusing each time until he achieved martyrdom.

Bhai Kapoor Singh and his band of Khalsa in an attempt to revenge disguised into Sufis and went to main Mosque of lahore that Mir Mannu use to attend but he did not that day., just when namaz was to start all Khalsa Sikhs started with Sat Sri Akal and attacked all government officials. Few days later mir mannu fell off the horse and broke his back and then passed away after suffering months.

To pay the chinese pakis have to first have Yuan. But where to get that? Comes gracious china. They will either lend Yuan by charging interest (means give loan to pakis to buy their own service) or they will force pakis to convert their forex reserve in Yuan. And then pakis have to pay IMF in dollars. Fun times.

One of the fundamentals requirements of an *Reserve* currency in *practice* i.e. China has to become a NET currency *exporter* just like US is a net currency exporter right now.

BUT how will China become a *net currency exporter*? Does China even want to become a *net currency exporter* instead of a NET currency *importer*? What will it mean for the Chinese economy to become a *net currency exporter*?

PS: NET currency *exporter* == NET goods *Importer* ... Currently US is a NET currency *exporter*
PPS: When I talk about NET position I am talking about China's global trade and not just trade with a single country or a group of countries.

‘Pakistan needs $32bn to fund external account next year’

ISLAMABAD:Pakistan’s fragile economy will need a whopping $32 billion over the next 12 to 18 months to fund its external account requirements, a senior economist said on Monday. Glory! Glory!! Hallelujah!!! His Soul is marching on!

“We can either to go back to the IMF (International Monetary Fund) for facing tough economic and noneconomic conditions including strangulating the CPEC (China-Pakistan Economic Corridor)… or evolve consensus among all political parties for undertaking the path of self-reliance,” Dr Hafiz Pasha, former finance minister said at a lecture on ‘Economy of Tomorrow, organised by Germany’s Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) and Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI).

Dr Pasha said there was need to note the country was heading towards incipient financial crisis, “which would be quite different this time compared to 2008-9 and 2012-13”.

“This time around the crisis was not protracted or caused by the shocks but because of the deviation from the structural path,” he added. “There are major symptoms of structural illness like dwindling exports, shrinking tax base, and total breakdown of governance in public sector enterprises (PSEs) e.g., Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), Pakistan Railways, and others.”

Dr Pasha said the ‘elite capture’ was quite apparent as the tax machinery was facing revenue losses of Rs3,500 billion due to tax breaks and incentives out of which taxes worth Rs2,000 billion were evaded.

“Now there are combinations of all factors like hike in oil price by 30 percent, inability to increase exports and fix governance coupled with loss making PSEs... people living in this country will be facing a deepening and protracted crisis.”

Dr Pasha viewed that the present Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government would only push the crisis to the surface when the interim setup would assume power in June 2018.

He blamed the former finance minister Ishaq Dar for presenting flawed figures based on fudged data in order to present a rosy picture of the economy.

“Now the incumbent regime was following the policy of holding operations till the end of its tenure so there was no anticipation of major reform policies till June 2018,” Pasha said, adding that the move to depreciate rupee against dollar was aimed to please the IMF as it might pave the way for issuance of Letter of Comfort (LOC) for taking loans from World Bank and Asian Development Bank faster.

Dr Pasha said the net international reserves must not reduce by more than $10 billion by June 2018 including $6.5 billion borrowed through forward swaps. “Alone $150 million has gone out from foreign currency accounts,” he said and added “For God’s sake don’t fiddle with foreign current accounts.”

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Pervez Tahir, former chief economist, said there was no alternative to democracy so there was need to sit together to devise an economic programme. “Some termed the CPEC as a game-changer but it seems ‘game is over’,” Tahir said and suggested that the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) be abolished, calling for major reforms to fix taxation system.

Proposing the establishment of permanent National Reform Commission to overhaul institutions, Sakib Sherani, former economic advisor ministry of finance, said lack of institutional reforms caused heavy losses to the economy as export to GDP ratio halved.

Raheel Siddique, chairman Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA), said he had assumed the slot of chairmanship in 2015 when PRA’s taxpayers’ base stood at 8750, which had now gone up to 45,000. “The PRA undertook a tax survey in Punjab to identify 25,000 potential taxpayers through which they came to know that 68 percent of them did not hold a national tax number (NTN) despite working in major markets of big cities,” Siddique said.

In another session, Shanza Anwar, a businesswoman, said Pakistan Foundry Association was looking for joint ventures with Chinese under the CPEC. “The relocation of Chinese industries into special economic zones was a debatable issue as our industry did not want Chinese furnaces because we use European technology,” Anwar said.

Actually, no.

The $56 Billion "investment" (read - loan) just became 370 Billion yuan loan (@ 6.6 yuan to a dollar). Now the canny chinis do not have to show proof of their "investment" at the "use" level. All the loans, now in yuan, are now internally made to chini companies by chini lenders and investors, and transferred from one chini account to another through internal accounting settlements. No need for the chinis to show dollar loans and investments in bakiland. If all "local" expenses are paid off in yuan, (read - salaries of half a million hans and other overheads) which will now never incur in pakhanistan (remember, the chinis also wanted the yuan to be the mode of transactions in g'wad'r), did the chinis really "invest" $56 Billion? The chinis are nobody's fools. Pakis are now qualified idiots.

Interesting times indeed.

Bajwa "Spins". "Mouthpiece" Barks

161 militants were given death penalties by military courts, 56 of them have been hanged: DG MO briefed Senators
Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa briefed Senate on national security today. He reached parliament house building along with Director General ISI Lieutenant General Naveed Mukhtar. Director General Military Operations and Director General ISPR are also present in the building.
While briefing the Whole Parliament Committee, DG Military Operations (MO) told that military courts have given verdicts on 274 cases till now, sources said. "161 militants have been given death penalties while 56 out of them have been hanged," DG MO added. One person's "militant" is another person's "freedom fighter" ( remember the then "East Pakistan" )
He further told the committee that 13 were hanged before Operation Rad-ul-Fasaad while 43 were hanged after operation started. Was the NA also informed that the UN has asked Pakistan to desist from doing this ( executions by Military Courts !)
This is the first time in Pakistan's political history that an army chief will brief the senate on national security . ( Sign of "supremacy" of Paki Parliament  ) Furthermore, Army Chief briefed the senate about his visits to Afghanistan and Iran. Gen Bajwa is also likely to take the Senate committee into confidence over US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson’s recent visit to the country. Will Tillerson be allowed to say his version of the "lecture" :D According to the notification: “Director General Military Operations (DGMO) Maj-Gen Sahir Shamshad Mirza will also brief the House alongside the army chief .”
The move apparently comes after senators from both sides of the aisle asked the government last week to take the parliament into confidence over Pakistan’s role in the Saudi-led 41-nation counter-terrorism coalition.By and large, all the senators were of the view that Pakistan should send its troops for the defence of holy places in Saudi Arabia, but should not send them for fighting against any other Muslim country. So, "Raheel, (the General For Hire,) should be called back from his lucrative post retirement job with MBS
“Why the defence minister who had attended the inaugural meeting of the IMCTC has not taken the House into confidence,” some of the senators lamented and demanded ( "senators" flexing their muscles  ) from the government to share details of the IMCTC’s terms of reference (ToRs) with the parliament .
Pakistan Peoples’ Party Senator Farhatullah Babar said...
Senator Babar said...
Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani had endorsed the standpoint of Senator Babar.... The overactive "senator" from Dus Percenti's Triple P Party

Aam Abduls Likely To Suffer From NGO Expulsions

'Illegal and primitive': Pakistan expels foreign aid groups in droves
The Pakistani government has ordered a number of foreign charities and rights groups to close down their operations and leave the country by the end of January.Over the past few days, the interior ministry has sent letters to 29 major international non-government organisations (INGOs), including Action Aid and Marie Stopes, telling them to shut their offices and leave within 60 days.Bold vision: giving blind people back their sight in
Pakistan has toughened its stance towards local and foreign aid groups in recent years by announcing a strict registration policy for organisations to operate and raise funds in the country. The move followed numerous allegations linking charitable work to espionage and anti-government activities. Part of the overall plan to keep the lid on the "civil war" carried on by the Army against its own citizens in KP, FATA and Baluchistan !

This is the most back-ass-ward move by the Pakis. They have sources of USD - through foreign aid, exports and remittances. Where will they generate Yuan from other than converting their USD into CNY? The Chinese being cleverer by half will loan them CNY while collecting extortionate interest and more importantly confiscating collateral. Pakis may be free of IMF's clutches for a while as the Chinese python wraps itself around their pathetic economy.

Maryam Nawaz Ganja Sharif Makes Massa's Powerful "Ayesha" List :D

NYT ranks Maryam Nawaz among world's 11 powerful women
The Express Tribune
Maryam Nawaz, the daughter of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, was named among eleven powerful women of the world on Sunday in a 2017 ranking issued by the New York Times.According to NYT, Maryam is the most courageous and most powerful woman of Pakistan. “Maryam is the most suitable heir to the political empire that her father and ousted premier Nawaz Sharif has built.” However, the foreign media outlet said corruption charges against her and her family are clouding her rapid rise. Credit should be given where credit is due. Blood is thicker than water . Maryam has no choice but to defend "Abbaji" . After all the future of the "family business" is at stake . Maryam growing up and living all her life, in the Paki political environment - unlike Dus-Percenti's Oxford Education Duffer -has a "good grip on the family business" and can easily beat the Sindhi competition, if it came to that !
“She had recently emerged as the right hand of her father Nawaz Sharif,” (While the sons look after the "other business" which has landed Ganja in trouble, Maryam has been put "in charge" of the "real business" which is the source of the "family's vast ill-gotten wealth" . She should be well advised to learn the ropes from Uncle Dar , before he is sent to the gallows  ) the Times report says.
