Pakistan indifferent as smog kills more people than militancy

ISLAMABAD: The toxic smog that has covered parts of Pakistan for weeks has exposed official torpor over rampant pollution that has killed thousands more people than have died in years of militancy.

The polluted air that has lingered in Islamabad in recent days was finally dispelled by rain this week, bringing the surrounding Margalla Hills into view once again.

In Lahore, where the situation was most critical, the level of PM2.5 — microscopic particles that lodge deep in the lungs — had dropped to 159 on Wednesday from more than 1,000 during the pollution spike, according to PakistanAirQuality, a citizen-driven monitoring initiative.

But what looks good for Pakistan is still very bad: 159 is six times higher than the World Health Organization's (WHO) safe limit.

"Question is, can a change from #Hazardous to Very #Unhealthy be called an improvement?" tweeted PakistanAirQuality.
Pakistan is already ranked third in the world — behind China and India — for the number of deaths caused by pollution, with 125,000 people killed annually, according to one measure by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, a research institute founded by the Gates Foundation.

The figure is well beyond the estimated 60,000 people who have died in the militancy-wracked country's years-long battle against extremism.

"I don't want to downplay the risk of militant extremism, but we must understand that our citizens are more vulnerable to diseases in the air than to armed terrorists on the ground," wrote opposition senator Sherry Rehman in the Express Tribune newspaper this week.

"We must act. And we must act now."

Yet the Pakistani government provides almost no reliable data on pollution, making it difficult to say with any certainty why the smog has become so pervasive, particularly in the last two years, much less tackle its causes.

Obvious suspects include unchecked industrial emissions, millions of poorly maintained vehicles, and a complete lack of waste management, with tonnes of rubbish often burned in the streets.

These factors are aggravated by the annual post-harvest burning of crop stubble, blamed for fuelling the recent pollution crisis across South Asia.

As the smog peaked in recent weeks, roughly 1,000 new patients were treated each day for respiratory issues in Punjab's nine public hospitals, health ministry officials have said.

But even as under-resourced medical centres struggle to cope, Pakistan's official reaction is lethargy.

"It is a matter of emergency but the officials concerned did nothing except taking tea in their offices," said Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, chief justice of the Lahore High Court.

He spoke on Monday during an emergency hearing in which an opposition party accused the provincial government in Punjab, of which Lahore is the capital, of failing to control the smog.

Provincial officials had delayed school start times and shut down some of the worst polluting companies, and said they had also ordered a temporary halt to crop burning.

But Shah said in court it was not enough, adding: "Why didn't you issue a red alert on smog since you know it's injurious to the health of pregnant women, elderly people and heart patients especially?"

Accusing environment officials of lying to the court, he ordered them to make pollution data available to the public.
Unlike Beijing, which is cracking down on pollution, and New Delhi, which at least monitors its air and issues warnings to its citizens, Pakistani authorities "haven't woken up yet", said Abid Omar, the entrepreneur behind PakistanAirQuality.

"Environment happens to be at the bottom of the list," he said.

Yet "Pakistan is extremely environmentally vulnerable," warned environment lawyer and activist Ahmad Rafay Alam.

He called on the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) to consider declaring Pakistan an "emergency" and setting up an office in Lahore.

The WHO representative for Pakistan, Mohammad Assai, said he hoped the situation would start to improve as "more awareness" spreads.

Yet even as citizens breathed a little easier Wednesday, residents of Punjab complained that the province's infamous brick kilns were belching smoke into the atmosphere once more.

"Many are still running," one farmer told AFP.

Absconding "Acid Thrower" Finds Refuge In Local Politico's "Peshaab Khaana" Now Arrested

Acid attack convict sentenced to 60 years in jail
LAHORE: A young man who ruined the life of his ex-fiancée in a revengeful acid attack was awarded a collective imprisonment of 60 years in a ruling announced by an antiterrorism court here on Wednesday.
Asmatullah had thrown acid on the girl after she rejected his marriage proposal in a horrific incident in September in Lahore’s Defence area. The police had arrested the culprit from his hometown of Bhakkar where he had taken refuge at an outhouse ( Taati - Peshaab Khaana  ) of a local politician. The police had registered the case against Asmatullah on terrorism charges in addition to some sections of the Pakistan Penal Code.
The trial court’s judge, Sajjad Ahmad, also imposed a fine of Rs3.9 million on the convict which will be paid to the victim as compensation. The man had been sentenced to 25 years in jail on two counts under Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997, while another 10 years under Section 324 of the PPC. ( What about the local politician. Should he also be booked for "abetting and aiding terrorism'" if evidence is there that Asmatullah carried out the attack and he was aware of it !)
According to doctors, the attack disfigured the face of the 24-year-old and damaged her eyes.

iGEM (International Genetically Engineered Machine) gave out a medal to practically everyone, even for showing up. http://2017.igem.org/Results

Hate to burst their inflatable bubble but comments from the paki participants like these below were meant to convey a whole different message to the unwashed masses back home (we are #2 in the world!) in search of even small victories:
He said it was a proud moment for the Pakistani team to win a silver medal among the 90 plus projects featured in the competition.
“Winning the silver medal reflects that Pakistanis have ideas of fixing issues through bio synthetic ways. But they need to be supported by the government”
The state CM's went delirious and said this on his teetar page:
Congratulations #TeamPeshawar. Proud of @igem_peshawar who has won a SILVER MEDAL in the International Genetically Engineered Competition bringing pride for whole country. From bronze to silver, we are looking forward for the Gold next time. Good Job.

That iGem "VICTORY" reminded me of another "BHICTORY" a few months ago:

Karachi girl bags bronze in international chemistry olympiad
A Pakistani girl has made the whole nation proud by winning the bronze medal in an international competition of chemistry.
Maaha Ayub, an A-Levels student at Lyceum School Karachi, won the competition and bagged the medal for Pakistan in the 49th International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) in Bangkok, Thailand.
Good for her. Kudos. Flags were raised and selfies taken. Not to take away her sense of elation on getting a bronze medal, but what the article did not say was that everyone was awarded a medal, even for showing up. But, as always, the report was meant to convey another message.

Be forewarned
Whoever forms the next government in Pakistan, be forewarned - a towel thread material!
PAKISTAN is close to Julian Barnes’s alternative definition of a net as “a collection of holes tied together with string”. It is less a country than a mesh of voids, bound by coils of self-interest.(Interesting way of putting it- I had never heard of this analogy before)
Our economy is a mosaic of potholes, of gaping deficits: budget deficits, fiscal deficits, trade deficits, recurring deficits in the railways and PIA. Add now a trust deficit between the legislature, the judiciary and the armed forces.
A parallel between the militaristic state of Prussia and modern Pakistan is often drawn by persons unfriendly to Pakistan. They never tire of repeating Prussian minister Friedrich von Schrötter’s remark that “Prussia was not a country with an army, but an army with a country”. Sadly, recent events indicate that Pakistan may well be sliding closer towards its Prussian precedent.
Former president-general Musharraf’s announcement that he proposes to cobble together ‘a grand alliance’ of 23 political parties to contest the next elections has not helped. It has reinforced the suspicion that khaki remains an indelible smudge in our nation’s politics, the third colour in our national flag.
Whoever forms the next government should brace himself for a hectic period in office. He will need deep pockets to meet repayments of the onerous CPEC loans. He will need strong nerves to resist pressure from Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman to join a Saudi-US funded coalition against Iran. He should be courageous enough to accept Farooq Abdullah’s acknowledgement that Azad Jammu & Kashmir is an integral part of Pakistan, and not demand more.
And, best for the last,
Our armed forces have not come fully out of the closet.
Yes, they have. Dekho below:

At last, the finality of the final attestations is finally here. At last. Free, at last!

NA passes Elections (Amendment) Bill 2017 to strengthen Khatm-i-Nabuwwat clauses
The National Assembly on Thursday evening passed the Elections (Amendment) Bill 2017 to restore Khatm-i-Nabuwwat laws to their original form and make sections relating to it "more effective."
"My family and I are ready to lay our lives for the honour of Prophet Muhammad," the law minister offered to his critics, some of whom have insisted on his resignation for his alleged role in the affair.
Sections 7B and 7C of the Conduct of General Elections Order, 2002 were also restored to their original form via the bill.
Section 7B states that the status of Ahmedis remains as stated in the Constitution of Pakistan, while section 7C states that if an enrolled voter's belief in the finality of Prophet Muhammad's prophethood is contended, they shall have to sign a declaration reaffirming their belief, failing which their "name shall be deleted from the joint electoral rolls and added to a supplementary list of voters in the same electoral area as non-Muslim."
a separate voters list shall be created for Ahmadis as they will not be included in the list for Muslims

Pakistan Uses Gimmick - "Unveiling Of 1700 Buddha Statue" - To Kick - Start Tourism In One Of The Most Dangerous Countries In The World

Pakistan unveils 1,700-year-old sleeping Buddha, evoking diverse heritage
HARIPUR: Pakistan unveiled the remains of a 1,700-year-old sleeping Buddha image on Wednesday, part of an initiative to encourage tourism and project religious harmony in the region.A reflection of the diverse history and culture of the South Asian country, the ancient Buddhist site in Bhamala province was first discovered in 1929. Eighty-eight years on, excavations resumed and the 14-metre-(48-foot)-high Kanjur stone Buddha image was unearthed, and opposition leader Imran Kahn presided over Wednesday’s presentation.“This is from the 3rd century AD, making it the world’s oldest sleeping Buddha remains,” Abdul Samad, director of Bhamla’s archaeology and museums department, told Reuters.“We have discovered over 500 Buddha objects and this 48-foot-long sleeping Buddha remains,” he added.Khan said: “It’s a question of preserving these heritage sites which are an asset for our country.” The region was once the center of Buddhist civilization that took root under the Mauryan king Ashoka 2,300 years ago.
Does anyone seriously think that this PR bullshit - in the presence of Imran Khan, the poster boy of "liberal Pakistan" is going to impress potential foreign tourists, specially tourists from Buddhist countries like Japan, Sri Lanka and other SE Asian nations. If anyone , studies the history of this "artificial entity", he would know that "projection of religious harmony" is foreign concept , specially in this area, where religious fundamentalism rules, and just a few years ago, the most wanted terrorist in the world - OBL- was found hiding under the patronage of the Paki Deep State in the nearby city of Abbotabad . Buddhists, have been "completely wiped out" (killed or converted !) from this region since ages , and the remaining few Sikhs and Hindus are fearful of their lives.
The presentation of the Buddha image coincided with a lockdown of major highways around the nation’s capital to contain a rightist protest against a perceived slight to Islam by members of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
So, confirmation that this is an "exercise in PR- giri " nothing else
Minority communities in Pakistan are often targeted by right-wing groups and successive governments have in the past been reluctant to embrace the country’s non-Muslim heritage. But recent attempts to improve Pakistan’s image have included overtures to minority communities by the PML-N. For which he has been labelled as an Agent Of India, by no less than Imran Khan !
In January, then-Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif inaugurated the restoration of Hindu temples at Katas Raj in Punjab province.Considered a conservative figure, Khan has stressed dialogue with hardliners including the Taliban but on Wednesday said the preservation of sites like Bhamala could promote religious tourism. Khan, a closet Taliban is well known for "tuning his message" depending on the audience being addressed ( foreign reporters, domestic reporters, Aam Abduls, Paki Ayeshas )
Khan dismissed the protesters in Islamabad, seeking to project a more tolerant image of Pakistan. “It’s a very small part of what is happening in Pakistan. The majority of the population wants to see such (Buddhist) sites restored.” And the "majority of the population" also want to declare Ahmedis as kafirs !!!
Khan’s opposition Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party is hoping to make big gains at the 2018 elections as the PML-N has been increasingly embroiled in corruption investigations.Sharif resigned as prime minister in July after the Supreme Court disqualified him for not declaring a source of income and faces trial before an anti-corruption court.

Swiss Succumb To Paki Pressure On Balochistan

Mehran Marri, exiled Baloch leader entry banned in Switzerland on Pakistan request
LONDON: Swiss government has slapped “entry ban” on exiled Baloch leader Mehran Marri which is valid for ten years, Geo News has reported.
It is exclusively learnt from credible sources that the ban was placed on request of Pakistani government which handed over a dossier ( probably recycled from the past !) to the government of Switzerland alleging that Mehran Marri – who is widely known as Mehran Baluch – has links with militant groups in Balochistan.
On Thursday, Mehran Marri arrived at the Zurich airport with his wife and four children when he was stopped by the immigration officers. Sources told that Swiss government’s foreign ministry officials met him and handed him over a dossier of 8 pages explaining why his immigration into Switzerland will not be allowed. Swiss government sources have confirmed to this scribe that the “lifetime entry ban” on Mehran Marri was placed on 9th of November. He needs the services of a "good lawyer" !
Mehran Marri was arrested and detained as soon as he reached the airport with his wife and family, Swiss government sources confirmed. The source said that Mehran Marri has the right to appeal against decision of the Swiss government but “for now his entry is banned”. India should consider granting him asylum if possible .
Sources told that Pakistan’s Foreign Office has been in touch with the Swiss authorities about Mehran Marri and his brother-in-law Brahumdagh Bugti who lives permanently in Geneva on asylum. Both had announced that they will hold a major conference on Balochistan in the Swiss capital on 18th of November to bring together various Baloch leaders from Europe to announce a joint strategy. IMO, this is not the end of the story !

Salvage Plan For Troubled "Paki National Carrier" Being Regurgitated Again

PIA proposes to sell key assets abroad to become debt free organisation
ISLAMABAD – Pakistan International Airline (PIA) has reocommended the federal government to turn the national carrier into a debt-free organisation by selling two of its key assets worth billions; hotels in New York and Paris .Reportedly, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the carrier has proposed a plan to the federal government that involves selling off Roosevelt Hotel in New York City and Scribe Hotel in French Paris. Hands rubbing ( in the corridors of Paki power !) in anticipation of the Moolah coming ! As if the act of "redeeming these cash cows", is going to solve the problem
The recommendation was formally made in a meeting in Islamabad with top government officials earlier this month. However, no concrete stance has been taken by the government over the recommendation until filing of this report. Top government officials (civil and military ) will want their proverbial cut of the money, before permission is given, plus some sort of kickback will also be anticipated from the prospective buyers for selling the "prized assets" under abnormal conditions. Thus the major part of the proceeds will be gobbled up by legal, brokerage and finders fees, not to mention the "promised commissions" . Doubt that the final deposited monies is going to "solve the problem"
It should be noted here that PIA shut its operations to the United States (US) earlier this month because of financial troubles and unaffordability. The last flight of the national carrier from New York City to Pakistan arrived in Lahore via Manchester in early first week of November. The Paki Embassy/ consulate people in DC and NYC are meeting all sorts of Amreeki officials to coax them to resume the operations although not sure why they shut down the operation in the first place !
The airline is struggling with losses and debts for years that has led the management to propose selling off its key assets to balance the sheets.

International Companies Pull Out Of Liquefied Natural Gas ( LNG) Deal :D

Pakistan LNG import project consortium folds
A consortium behind a liquefied natural gas (LNG) import project in Pakistan , including oil giant Exxon Mobil, France’s Total and Qatar Petroleum, has been dissolved, shipping company Hoegh LNG said on Thursday.Hoegh LNG was due to supply the project’s ship-based import terminal, a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU), where LNG brought in by tanker is converted back to gas to feed into Pakistan’s grid. Back to "square one" vis-a-vis energy self sufficiency . Also plans to be an "economic mini-super power"
The other six members of the consortium were Japan’s Mitsubishi and Turkish developer Global Energy Infrastructure (GEI).

“The consortium has spent considerable time and resources on finding [the project‘s] final form and structure. However, by mid-November it has been concluded that no agreement with GEI ( this is an Ummah Company !!!) could be found and the consortium has consequently been dissolved,” Hoegh LNG said in a results statement.
Last month Reuters reported that Exxon Mobil pulled out of the project owing to disagreements with GEI and that Total and Mitsubishi could also quit and join a rival scheme. The project was set to be Pakistan’s third and biggest by import capacity, starting in late 2018 or early 2019. All the plans now become a big, FAT zero !
Pakistan
plans to add its second LNG import terminal by the end of this year, but private companies have proposed building six more, largely around Port Qasim.
Hoegh LNG did not elaborate on the nature of the disagreement with GEI but industry sources with knowledge of the matter said that part of it related to project costs.“Due to the withdrawal of the LNG sellers from the infrastructure consortium, and the delays to the original start-up date for the GEI project, Hoegh LNG is evaluating its options with respect to the FSRU contract with GEI,” it said. The company said it is also pursuing alternative opportunities in Pakistan as an FSRU provider.
A highly developed pipeline grid, extensive industrial demand and the biggest natural gas-powered vehicle fleet in Asia behind China and Iran make Pakistan an easy fit for LNG . Official estimates show that imports could jump fivefold to 30 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) by 2022.The consortium’s split also leaves in doubt a multibillion-dollar deal Qatar has already struck with GEI for the sale of up to 2.3 million tonnes of LNG annually over 20 years.GEI has approached several companies about joining the scheme, including trading house Vitol. Wonder, if "commissions payable" to Paki civil and military people might have been an important factor in the cancellation of the deal

Pakistani team bag silver medal at iGEM 2017
2/3 (nearly 200 teams out of 300) got silver medal or better. (88% gets some sort of medal):
For a bronze medal it is for example necessary to submit a new part to the Parts Registry, for a silver medal the team is required to document the functionality of a part and for a gold medal it is finally, among other criteria, necessary to obtain a proof-of-principle for the team's project.
There is no mention of Pakistan in any to the top teams...

(For Paki lurkers: Yes there was only one Pak team..even India had 10x teams with 10X medals even though that Paki paper does not mention it)

The National Assembly on Thursday evening passed the Elections (Amendment) Bill 2017 to restore Khatm-i-Nabuwwat laws to their original form and make sections relating to it "more effective." Pakistan is not green enough
The bill was tabled by Law Minister Zahid Hamid, who assured the house that he and his family "were Muslims and believed in the finality of prophethood". There were calls earlier for his resignation, hence the "assurance" !
"My family and I are ready to lay our lives for the honour of Prophet Muhammad," the law minister offered to his critics, some of whom have insisted on his resignation for his alleged role in the affair.Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal stepped in to support the beleaguered lawmaker, assuring him that: "In a state, faith and connection to God is a matter between him and God. No person can make a decision on anyone's faith." Onlee in Pakiland, can the National Assembly be the venue for this kind of a dramabaazi , while the crushed awaam is pleading for clean water, reliable bijjli and reasonable prices for tamatar and piaz :D
"I will ask my brother [Zahid Hamid] that your faith is your personal matter and you do not need to present any clarifications regarding your faith," he added. One Pakjabi to the "rescue" of a fellow Pakjabi
Sections 7B and 7C of the Conduct of General Elections Order, 2002 were also restored to their original form via the bill.Section 7B states that the status of Ahmedis remains as stated in the Constitution of Pakistan, while section 7C states that if an enrolled voter's belief in the finality of Prophet Muhammad's prophethood is contended, they shall have to sign a declaration reaffirming their belief, failing which their "name shall be deleted from the joint electoral rolls and added to a supplementary list of voters in the same electoral area as non-Muslim." How is this different from Hitler's targeting of jews. What is the assurance that the "supplementary list (data base ) of non - Muslims ie Ahmedis will not be used for settling scores and /or revenge killings etc etc !
An effort to immediately appease critics had been made last month by passing a bill, which the government had then claimed restored the declaration to original form. However, religious and political parties and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had demanded that the responsibility for the error be fixed. A group of irate protesters belonging to fringe religious parties in Islamabad are also demanding the removal of Hamid for what they claim was not a mistake but a "conspiracy".A decision on the fresh delimitation of constituencies based on provisional census data is also forthcoming. Next on the list will be Shias and other Islamic minority sects, who are not green enough for Sunni Muslim tastes !

After getting nowhere with India, pukistan goes after Afghanistan with its broken record.

Afghanistan not ‘doing enough’ for peace in region, Pakistan tells US
Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa told a US commander on Thursday that Pakistan had done its best for peace in the region but the same was not being reciprocated by Afghanistan. :((
Peace in Afghanistan is more important for Pakistan than any other country
Pakistan, the army chief said, had done its best despite constraints and shall continue efforts for the sake of its future, in line with aspirations of the Pakistani people.
Pakistani officials have repeatedly said that the Taliban, who fled a series of military operations in the tribal regions, found safe havens in northern, eastern and northeastern Afghanistan.

An Objective Review Of The Persecuted Ahmedis Of Pakistan

Pakistan's long-persecuted Ahmadi minority fear becoming election scapegoat
Reuters
RABWAH, Pakistan (Reuters) - Crammed into buses and mini-vans, more than 10,000 Pakistanis traveled to a mosque on the outskirts of the small Punjabi town of Rabwah, for the sole purpose of denouncing followers of the minority sect based here as “infidels and enemies of the state”. If not encouraged/ instigated directly by the state, they were not discouraged either
For members of the long persecuted Ahmadi community, who are forbidden to call themselves Muslims and face discrimination and violence over accusations their faith insults Islam, the open vitriol on display at the Oct. 20 rally was not new.
But this year, they say, anti-Ahmadi rhetoric has also re-entered mainstream Pakistani politics, as politicians seek to shore up support among religiously conservative voters after surprise gains by two new Islamist parties.
“We are an easy community to scapegoat for political opponents to target each other,” said Usman Ahmad, who moved to Pakistan from Britain to work as a community activist. The "British Passport" is insurance just in case ....
In the past six weeks, a row over proposed changes to the election law that would have eased some of the barriers on Ahmadis participating in elections has seen the group denounced on the floor of Pakistan’s parliament, while one of the new Islamist parties has held street protests.
The government has since taken out ads in major newspapers reaffirming a religious oath requiring elected officials to vow that they do not follow anyone claiming to be a prophet after Mohammad and “nor do I belong to the Qadiani group”, using a common derogatory term for Ahmadis.
The Ahmadis consider themselves to be Muslims, but their recognition of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, who founded the sect in British-ruled India in 1889, as a “subordinate prophet” is viewed by many of the Sunni majority as a breach of the Islamic tenet that the Prophet Mohammad was God’s last direct messenger. The Bahais of Iran are similarly persecuted as they also consider their founder (Bahullah) as a prophet .
The Ahmadi sect has 10-20 million followers worldwide who face discrimination in a number of Muslim-majority nations such as Indonesia and Algeria, as well as being ostracized by large parts of the Muslim community in Britain. There are about half a million Ahmadis in Pakistan, local leaders say, though other estimates have put the number at 2-4 million. What many people seem to forget that the Ahmedis were in the forefront in the call for the making of Pakistan . The first Foreign Minister of Pakistan was an Ahmedi. So was the first Noble Prize Winner . Several Ahmedis have held high posts in the fauj. Rumour has it that the current COAS is a Qadiani !
By law they cannot call their place of worship mosques or distribute religious literature, recite the Koran or use traditional Islamic greetings, measures that they say criminalize their daily lives. Ahmedis shoud take their case to the UN Human Rights Council, of which Pakistan is the latest member
The legal restrictions began in 1974, when the then-Prime Minister Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto passed a constitutional amendment declaring Ahmadis non-Muslim. A decade later military dictator General Zia ul Haq barred Ahmadis from identifying themselves as Muslim. Bhutto a megalomaniac and a nominal Muslim did this to ingratiate himself with the Mullahs and hang on to power by hook or by crook.
Community leaders say these moves laid the groundwork for a sectarian divide that has since seen many violent attacks on Ahmadis and birthed multiple militant organizations, including many that are now linked to Islamic State.
In the past four years, the Punjab government has also targeted Ahmadis under the country’s anti-terrorism laws, filing at least eight cases against Ahmadis on charges of producing hate literature, including the sect’s own holy texts.
The offices of an Ahmadi magazine in Rabwah were raided in December 2016 by police, who arrested seven people and confiscated papers and hard drives. “They stormed the office, it felt like a group of terrorists had come in,” said Amir Fahim, who worked at the magazine and was held for 65 days.
“They said the religious language you use belongs to us and the things you write offend the sensibilities of Muslims.”
Community leaders say the use of anti-terrorism laws marks a new phase in the targeting of Ahmadis.“Here, to be an Ahmadi, through state laws, is a crime,” Pakistan’s Ahmadi community spokesman Salimuddin said. “There are restrictions on our annual gatherings, our annual games ... If the state did not persecute us, we would not be persecuted.” In Pakistan politics, the name of the game now is to accuse someone of not being "Islamic enough", and the Ahmedis being declared "non-Muslim" are a convenient target !
Punjab government spokesman Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan said the authorities were not using the anti-terrorism laws to target any particular minority group.“The Punjab Government arrested thousands on charges of hate speech during the last three years,” he told Reuters. “Anti-Ahmadi groups were also included in them.” They cannot come out openly and say that they are targeting Ahmedis, specially when talking to a Foreign News Agency ( Reuters )
Many Ahmadis in Pakistan say they only truly feel safe in Rabwah, a town of more than 60,000 in eastern Punjab that is 95 percent Ahmadi. Most of the town’s infrastructure is maintained on contributions made by the community, including free hostels and food for visitors and a community organized garbage clean-up. But on the edge of Rabwah lies a small settlement and a mosque run by a right-wing Islamist organization that openly professes hatred for Ahmadis.
The organization, Khatm-e-Nubuwwat (Finality of the Prophet), built the mosque on land the Punjab government ordered confiscated from Ahmadis in 1975 for low-income housing. ( Rule of law thrown out of the window !) Khatm-e-Nubuwwat has been at the forefront of initiating blasphemy allegations against Ahmadis. Every year for 36 years, the group has held an anti-Ahmadi rally at the mosque.
“Qadianis are the enemies of the prophet,” said Aziz ur Rehman, an organizer of the Rabwah conference, adding: “A country that was made in the name of the prophet cannot accept Qadianis.” Always volatile, political atmosphere in Pakistan has been especially tense since the Supreme Court removed former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif from office in July over corruption allegations, which he denies.
The calculations of the mainstream parties have been complicated by the formation of two new Islamist political groups that garnered more than 10 percent in two recent by-elections and could become spoilers in a close election.
One of the new parties, Tehreek-e-Labaik, launched a political furor last month after lawmakers from Sharif’s party, which still holds a parliamentary majority, approved apparently small changes to the country‘s election law. The changes eliminated a requirement for Ahmadi voters to declare they are not Muslim and turned a religious oath for elected officials declaring belief in the Finality of the Prophet and affirming they are not Ahmadi into a simple declaration of belief.
Tehreek-e-Labaik quickly termed any concessions to Ahmadis to be blasphemy and threatened mass protests. The government, still controlled by Sharif’s party, quickly retreated and reversed the changes.A week later, speaking before Pakistan’s National Assembly, Sharif’s son-in-law, lawmaker Muhammad Safdar Awan called for Ahmadis to be barred from employment in the government, judiciary, and military. Sharif himself later distanced himself from Safdar’s statement. The climbdown did not appease Tehreek-e-Labaik, which last week launched street protests blockading roads into Islamabad and demanding the law minister be sacked. The protests are ongoing and have paralyzed traffic in the capital.Saadia Toor, author of State of Islam said it’s likely that anti-Ahmadi rhetoric will continue up to next year’s elections, due by the end of August. The govt is shit scared of these new Islamic entities, which to some extent have the support of the Deep State, who is after the Nawaz Govt !
“Anti-Ahmedi sentiment is widely held across the Pakistani Muslim mainstream, even among moderate Sunnis,” she said. “So using them as scapegoats for political purposes is easy.”

Cruise missile test: Pakistan shows concern as India fails to notify
ISLAMABAD: Once again India has breached a bilateral agreement and failed to notify Pakistan when its Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully test-launched the nuclear-capable Nirbhay cruise missile.
Go ahead Terroristan. Take Action. Be a Man!
“The test was not notified to Pakistan. The bilateral agreement on pre-notification of missile tests covers only ballistic missiles. Cruise missiles are not covered. Developments like these endanger the strategic stability in South Asia,” responded the spokesman to a query.
So, Shut Up Already!
He emphasised that this underscores the need for Pakistan and India to engage in meaningful discussions on further measures for confidence-building, avoidance of arms race and promotion of strategic stability in South Asia, among other issues.
No more talks until Terroristan stops its Terrorist Activities in India.
“Pakistan stands ready for such talks with India. Our proposal for a Strategic Restraint Regime for South Asia is still on the table. The international community should also take note of the reports that India had been exercising 'strategic restraint' on its missile development prior to getting the MTCR membership," he added.
Terroristan for the Last Time : Do what you have already been told to do. And Stop acting like an Old Dehati Woman!

The emerging bulge crisis (and I am not talking about the average gut-belly of an average pakjabi).

Volcano alert
Recently I came across a photo of more than 20,000 youth converging at Jamshoro for admission to Sindh University. Only a small fraction will be enrolled, the rest turned away to ruminate on a bleak future.
more than 60 per cent of Pakistan’s 200 million people are below 25 years of age
Pakistan’s youth bulge seems like a volcanic eruption waiting to happen.
we still have over 20m children out of school. Amongst those who do go to school many do not continue beyond the secondary level.
Both those who go to school (even university) and those who don’t share one thing: they all have precarious employment prospects.
at least 30m young people will enter the workforce in the next couple of decades. This does not include those not accounted for in formal statistics such as child labourers
But the fact remains that there are not nearly enough opportunities, inside the county or outside, illegal or legal, for the number of young people out there.
This is the making of a social crisis unlike anything this country has seen if only because the scale of the problem is unprecedented.
More than any other segment of our society, today’s youth and the generations that follow will have to choose, as Rosa Luxemburg said a century ago, between socialism and barbarism.
Yes. Socialism. The answer to all paki problems. Especially, its compatibility with the malsic momeens. Now, there's a volcano waiting to erupt.

Paki Journo "Exposes" Paki Military's Role In Saudia Specifically The "Behind The Scene" Involvement Of Raheel Sharif

How deep ties with Pakistan’s military helped Saudi purge
Pakistan has traditionally maintained that its bilateral relationship with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is its “most important diplomatic relationship.” Developments in Saudi Arabia last week appear to have hinged to a significant degree on the close relationship that the Kingdom shares with the Pakistani military.
Besides both being members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the two have long maintained a strong military relationship. Pakistani military personnel frequently serve in Saudi Arabia and its last army chief, General Raheel Sharif, now heads a 41-nation Islamic army coalition based out of Riyadh. Sharif’s accession was seen as Islamabad picking sides with Saudi Arabia against Iran. Pakistan's pretensions of neutrality in the Sunni- Shia ( read Saudia - Iran ) divide is just that - pretensions ! They are firmly in bed with the Saudis ( with probably US blessings  )
On October 26, the Pakistani Army concluded Al-Saman 6, a three-week military exercise with the Saudi Royal Land Forces. Drills included use of live ammunition, ambushing, combat patrolling and special training on how to deal with IEDs, under commanding officer Lieutenant General Akram Al Haq from the 30th Corps of the Pakistani Army. Pakistan has also been keen to sell arms to Saudi Arabia and has enjoyed Saudi support while developing its nuclear weapons program. The so-called "off the shelf" nuclear option to counter the Irani Atom Bum
On October 16, Pakistan Army Chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa met with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the man behind the purge against senior Saudi members of the royal family, on the sidelines of an ‘anti-terror’ conference organized by the Saudi Defense Ministry in Riyadh. Might also have met - in private, of course, out of media glare - fellow Pakjabi Raheel , and requested him to put in a good word or two in the ears of MBS to pump in some monies in Pakiland !
General Bajwa also visited Tehran on November 6, and, according to reliable diplomatic sources, discussed cooperation on missile technology and the visit of Iranian scientists to SUPARCO, Pakistan’s official space agency. That visit was seen as a move to assuage Iranian concerns over Pakistan’s deep involvement with the Saudis. The Iranis - grand chess masters since ages, are probably not convinced of these "token gestures" , but are too polite to say that on Bajwa's face
The meeting with Crown Prince Salman came a little over two months after General Bajwa hosted Saudi Deputy Defense Minister Mohammad Bin Abdullah Al-Aysh in Rawalpindi, where Saudi domestic security was discussed in detail. “Of course, there was no hunch of the arrests and the political upheaval that we’ve seen over the past week or so back then, but in recent months there has been a clear urgency in Riyadh with regards to Pakistan’s involvement in its security,” a senior military official told Asia Times on condition of strict anonymity. IOW confirms Raheel's role behind the scene to help MBS consolidate power !
Riyadh has been actively pursuing Islamabad’s military resources on two counts: its own territorial integrity, and Pakistan’s participation in the Islamic Military Alliance against Terrorism (IMAT), (euphemism for the Yemen war !) the aforementioned organization commanded by General Sharif.
General Sharif had been rumored to be on the verge of quitting the IMAT on the grounds that Riyadh’s demand for ‘Sunni only’ military personnel was “sectarian.” However, these rumors were quashed when he told the Middle East Military Alliance and Coordination Conference last month that it was an “honor for him to be part of Saudi-led Islamic Military Alliance as a commander.” Raheel has always been a 100% "halal Sunni" . Public memory is short . He "openly insulted" the Irani President - when on a visit to Pakiland, he accused Iran of being pro- India !
Pakistani officials are at pains to describe General Sharif’s involvement as not being a reflection of Pakistan’s foreign policy. “General Raheel Sharif is leading the IMAT in his private capacity. His decisions do not reflect the official Pakistani policy – although one can understand why any of his actions can be construed as such, and we’re sure he’s perfectly aware of that,” a senior government official told Asia Times. “In any case, [General Sharif] has said on record that he won’t participate in any exercise designed against a specific country, and wants to lead a unified fight against the likes of ISIS.” Again, for obvious reasons, ( significant Shia population !) Pakistan cannot be seen to be openly siding with the Saudis- but they know in heart of hearts that the Saudis are their maa- baap , no matter how shabbily they are treated by the Saudi Arabs
Lieutenant General Talat Masood, a former secretary of Pakistan’s Ministry of Defense Production, told Asia Times, meanwhile, that “Sharif is functioning ‘independent of Pakistan’ and is focused on better equipping” the Saudi troops. “He is currently helping improve capabilities of the Saudi armed forces that would eventually be a part of the IMAT. He isn’t commanding the Pakistani troops that are deployed in the kingdom to defend Saudi territorial integrity and are contractually limited to Saudi domestic matters,” he said. :(( Paki guns for hire !!!)
Military analyst Hassan Askari Rizvi, author of The Military and Politics in Pakistan, said Pakistani military involvement in Saudi Arabia is primarily for training purposes. “The Pakistan Army is providing a lot of support functions. This is because there are no professional forces in the region. With the exception of the Turkish Army, most of the armies in the Middle East are ceremonial. So in case of a conflict the Pakistan Army naturally takes center stage,” he told Asia Times. Confirms "Paki Central Role" as an Army for hire
While both civil and military officials maintain that Pakistan has conveyed its unflinching neutrality to Riyadh, vis-à-vis Iran, in reality Islamabad is treading a fine line. “Even if the Pakistani troops aren’t physically involved in an attack on Iran – or in Yemen, Qatar or Lebanon – the fact that we are bolstering Saudi defense domestically naturally makes us an integral part of their camp,” a retired Army officer told Asia Times. “When Pakistani troops are positioned to protect areas being shelled by Houthi rebels, they are technically guarding Saudi boundaries, but we’re also clearly picking our side in the conflict.” Confirms that the pretensions of neutrality is just a sham !!!!

Lavish Praise Now Being Bestowed On The Late Dina Wadia , The Non-Muslim Daughter Of DJinnah

Daughter of the Quaid
Written a lot has been what Dina Jinnah was. So let’s take a look at what she was not.

She was not a crass opportunist; she was not a power-grabber; she was not an exploiter of her father’s political inheritance; she did not seek the limelight, nor did she employ a PR team of sycophants to endlessly project her. The privacy of her life puts to shame all the privileged, spoiled children who have made hay by virtue of dynastic privileges. Plain and simple: She did not want to identify herself with Pakistan !!!
Dina was a zero beneficiary of the nation her father created. None from the Quaid’s immediate family profited from Pakistan. Plain and simple: She did not want to identify herself with Pakistan !!!
The core of the Quaid’s character lived on and never wavered through the near 100-years of Dina Jinnah , who did not let a whiff of unethical conduct come near her. Till the end, she remained a true daughter of the Quaid. Many Pakis are unaware that she first and foremost identified herself with her Parsi faith. She married her Parsi husband against the wishes of DJinnah !

SSridhar Ji :
Sir Ji the Total Phigur of US$ 19.995 Billion is Bherry Bherry Conphujophying.

The Phigurs are as phollows :

Domestic Markets & Monetary Management Department

LIQUID FOREIGN EXCHANGE RESERVES IN US$ BILLIONS

END PERIOD : 10-11-2017 - NET RESERVES WITH SBP : 13.6776 - NET RESERVES WITH BANKS : 6.0174 - TOTAL LIQUID FX RESERVES : 19.6950

Please note that the US$ 6.0174 Billion is the foreign Exchange held by Terroristani Individual and is not available to the Government of Terroristan. In addition it is pertinent to note that of the Net Reserves of US$ 13.6776 Billion held by the State Bank of Terroristan about US$ 6.0000 Billion are in the form of Bank Loans taken by the Government of Terroristan i.e. the State Bank of Terroristan has only US$ 7.6776 available to it which is far less than the "Safety Limit" of Minimum Three Months Imports. As you are aware the 2016-2017 Terroristani Net Deficit - Trade & Services - was about US$ 32 Billion.

Such is the Rosy Future of Terroristan!

19,000 momeens return after a swift tour of eyeran, their birather malsic mulk.

19,000 illegal immigrants from Pakistan handed over by Iranian authorities in 2017
Iran has handed over 19,000 Pakistanis arrested for crossing the border illegally during the ongoing year
The Pakistani citizens had entered Iran through "less frequented routes" along the 900-kilometre border with the country in their bid to reach Greece and other European countries
The official said that most of the illegal immigrants had belonged to Mandi Bhauddin, Gujrat, Sialkot and other densely-populated areas of Punjab.
Iran had constructed a 64km wall to deter people from crossing the border illegally
Turki, another birather malsic mulk, must have refused to give them through passage to germanistan. Hence, eyeran had no choice but to ....but how dare their hamsaya mulk build that wall?

Page 33 about the Commercial Banks' Foreign Currency Deposit Loan of US$ 6 Billion
Peregrine wrote:Economic notes: Emerging economic trends
While it is necessary to raise financing to support the rising current account, which is a leading indicator of rising economic activities, it would be unfortunate if the country uses such precious and expensive resources to support an otherwise indefensible exchange rate. The latest SBP report on external reserves is equally worrying. The reserves, as on November 11, 2017 stood at $19.9 billion – of which $13.9 billion belonged to the SBP (official) and $6 billion to the commercial banks (foreign currency deposits: FCY). The official reserves have declined from a near-high of $20 billion in early October 2016 – a loss of $6.1 billion.
