kancha ji, excellent analysis. However, there could be a simpler explanation to the chinese action this time. May be we did something somewhere else and they are responding.

Quite possible. That's why it is important to wait and watch as the situation is still fluid, and evolving.

All these will set up another 'Cold War' scenario
I am ready to go out on a limb here that any Panda moves on Hong Kong will be the tip of the spear driven deep into mainland
Kahn and others are waiting for gloves to come off and the wheels will be set in motion.
How will 'Dharmic Forces' withstand the pressure from Kahn to pick a side.
Long term (i.e., 10-20 yrs following the fall of Beijing so to speak :D ) will the cycle be repeated in India by Kahn unless we swear unending fealty!!

Rsatchi-Saar, looks like the white world is now determined to box-in the Red Panda, and it started with the concerns about Huawei. Then the Chinese virus has made that resolve firmer. The first step is to block the chinese external trade, since about 50% of the chinese growth is export-driven. Mr. Eleven has understood this, and that's why he is asking his nation to look inward, and reorient the growth from the domestic market. HK is just the tip of the iceberg for the west to fire the first salvo. Eventually, in a few years, China will lose HK+Macau, Xinjiang and Tibet. Then the rest of Han China will be severely restricted by trade restrictions, denying hi-techs, etc etc.

Cross posting.

It does seem to me now that the Chincoms have indeed encroached into our territory. Or maybe a better way to put it is disputed territory. But either way, Chincoms' aggression is an unilateral attempt to change the status quo. If it was only that puke Ajai Shukla whose only motive is to make ModiJi look bad, I would have been dismissive, but now even Brahma Chellaney claims the same

https://twitter.com/Chellaney/status/12 ... 6582392832

https://twitter.com/Chellaney/status/12 ... 6547713024

So this does put India in a dilemma. Chincoms are not going to withdraw unilaterally. Not sure what options India has. If the Chincoms stay put, pretty soon, it will become a disgusting, puke worthy tu tu mein mein between Pappu BIF slaves and BJP hot heads along the lines of 'you lost so much in 1962' (Pappu & Co), while 'we didn't lose any of our terrorist only disputed parts' (BJP); with Pappu & Co relentlessly mocking "56-inch" ModiJi. But I still feel and hope ModiJi & Co will come up with something creative to restore status quo ante.

PM Modi not in 'good mood' over border row with China: Trump
WASHINGTON: Reiterating his offer to mediate on the border dispute between India and China, US President Donald Trump has said that he spoke with Narendra Modi about the "big conflict" and asserted that the Indian Prime Minister is not in a "good mood" over the latest flare-ups between the two countries.
Speaking with the reporters in the Oval Office of the White House on Thursday, Trump said a "big conflict" was going on between India and China.
"I like your prime minister a lot. He is a great gentleman," the president said.
"Have a big conflict …India and China. Two countries with 1.4 billion people (each). Two countries with very powerful militaries. India is not happy and probably China is not happy," he said when asked if he was worried about the border situation between India and China.
"I can tell you; I did speak to Prime Minister Modi. He is not in a good mood about what is going on with China," Trump said.

He is like a WW2 bomb being dropped of a B-29 bomber. On a good day he'll hit within a mile of the intended target and on an usual day will drop 5 miles away from the intended target. Highly unstable and equally unpredictable, sometimes when he hits the target it makes you happy but most of the times he'll send one into terror, panic and anxiety .

If Chini decided to escalate on the border, what would be their objective for such a war?

Don't say take over India. Chinis know we will be agree for a ceasefire. I need to know what will the Chinis stop at?

China says non-peaceful action on Taiwan is last resort

https://www.businessinsider.com/china-n ... ort-2020-5

China will use all means to prevent Taiwanese independence from China, the ruling Communist Party's third most senior leader said on Friday.

Li Zhanshu, who is also the head of China's parliament, said Beijing will use force as a last resort. He added that Beijing will never allow any force, in any way, to separate Taiwan from China.

Maybe they can see the war over Taiwan coming and want to gauge our response. Or maybe they want to give us a little something something right now so when they are fighting in SCS, we won't have any heart left to fight on their western border.

The Chinese will not go to war with Taiwan. Why would China want to go to war and make one of the biggest employer in China, Foxconn fire all employees? Or screw up their chance of making money through Taiwan?

Chinese takes over Taiwan, China pays the bills to keep Taiwanese alive. Chinese doesn't invade, Taiwanese are making Chinese richer.

It is a no brainier. It is only us, who are daft enough to not been able to convince the Taiwanese, to get some of the tech in here.

The only two countries who are gaining out of Taiwan is China & US.

There's definitely going to be a war over Taiwan. Chinese can't hope to be a superpower if they can't even regain the Taiwanese territory. Taiwan also gives US a reason to fight cause I don't think the ongoing war on chinese war companies would succeed.
And without that conflict america's days of being the sole superpower are numbered. And along with that goes the dollar supremacy.

The Chini will stop as soon as they are economically hurt in Hong kong. The reason they agreed for a different system in in the first place is because of money making capability in Hong kong.

There is nothing stopping PLA going in to Hong kong and doing a "T" square, other than money..

I see that the BIF and Pappu mouthpiece and traitor Ajay Shukla (I shudder that this vermin was in Indian army) is now claiming that "bhakts" (BIF derogatory terms for nationalists) are behaving like Pakis in the aftermath of 2016 surgical strikes and Balakot: denying that anything happened. So while he is now implicitly admitting that India hits his Paki lovers, recall both in 2016 and post Balakot, this ass hole was all over the place poo-pooing India's claims, mocking ModiJi (recall that revolting love fest between him and Ravish kumar post Balakot), repeating the lie that a India at best hit a few trees in Balakot etc. Look at the change in his tone.

I am pretty sure RAW is keeping a close tab on him. He is a national security threat. At the very least his propaganda brainwashes a lot of India given his pedigree as an 'ex Indian army col". I also notice that people like Abhijit Iyer Mitra, Sushant Sareen etc never take him head on as also BJP spokesman for fear that they are challenging a 'decorated col'.

Not the topic of this thred, but in the same vein, I recall that SOB Coupta went on a binge attacking Sambit Patra (hope the poor chap is doing well after being hospitalized for developing COVID 19 like symptoms) when the latter showed some gumption in calling out Pappu slave K.C.Singh's pedantic BS attacking Modiji. Likewise, nobody has the guts to call out Ajai Shukla for what he is: A BJP/ModiJi/Hindu hating colonized demagogue spreading fake news.

I am sure the Chinese love Shook Law

The han’s have four pronounced weaknesses today: tibet, xinjiang, taiwan, and now hong Kong (apart from their sinking economy, rising social unrest and xi's loosening grip on power).

On each weak spot, India must adopt a simple and straightforward policy that maximizes India's position and shows china down. The quad is just a beginning.

china is haranguing India because it has become an international leper after the wuhan virus fiasco. It needs to scare India into the non compete space and also show India as an unstable country, both politically and economically hence the movements in ladakh and the portrayal of India's anti wuhan virus fight as useless and ineffective.

shaheenbagh may not have been just the frontending ummah in concert but the hans may have been pulling the puppet strings from the shadows.

Modi's refusal to tamely join the OBOR CPEC has been a savage dagger thrust right into the chinese economic and military belly

India has tolerated the han support of the terrorist state of pakiland for far too long. This is the han's blatant expression, as well as, the reassertion of their cultural exceptionalism, and it has been followed up with anti India support to other proxies like nepal, SL and beediland for pushing their age old and heaven mandated middle kingdom centered agenda.

Its the same with India. They are already in an economic war with us - which we, with our $60 billion annual trade deficit have been losing for over a decade. Why would they want to attack us when we are willing handing over our cash and becoming economically dependent. Current drama has the objective of `showing us our place'.

Chinks are playing high stakes here.

They know if they can pull of a major land grab stunt, their puppets here will use it to twist the knife to regain power. With Dhimmis back in power, they become the unchallenged, pre-eminent geo strategic power from the Pacific to the Atlantic.

A Hindu centric gov that is trying to coalesce 100s of Indian identities into a critical mass of something that resembles homogeneity is the only serious challenge that Pax-Sina faces.

Knowing Modi, be it Doklam or Balakot, I know he would be aware of what's at stake here.

Also in dont see how this is going to get resolved peacefully. Xi probably wants to put Modi in his place. He feels the Chinese threat is no longer taken seriously after Doklam.

The Chinese anyway have the orientation and luxury as well as the guts to try and go for a kill.

As far as my 2 paise go, I feel that the answer here lies in cutting the gordian knot. We must re-take PoK. I do not think China will risk intervening in a full blown war as it risks escalating it to a world war.

Once this two front war threat is solved, we start with an entire new chess board.

Lohit, excellent points. Please watch this interview on India today with some Chinese dude. He keeps saying that land where the Chincoms encroached on has on strategic value

https://t.co/5REGXzt60m?amp=1

If you take them at face value, and Brahma Chellany who was also the panel disagrees, why the Chincom dada giri? I would say its your scenario above.

This is an internal (within India) storm brewing. I don't think Chinese will move very aggressively beyond this point. They will continue useless talks but carefully calibrate the image that ModiJi is the weaker player here. Ajai Sook Law types will provide the necessary ammunition like he did on Rafale, and Pappu & Co can go hammer and tongs to mock ModiJi's 56" chest.

While as I said earlier, I don't take Shook Law seriously, but I do take Brahma Chellaney seriously, and he makes the same claims Shook Law, even more so if you watch the above Interview. Countering their claims is Abhijit Iyer Mitra who just released his first part of a 3-part series to claim there was no Chincom aggression and if there was, it was repulsed

https://theprint.in/opinion/no-chinese- ... ns/433209/

So what we will have is an internal tamasha. The Chinese giving just enough ammunition to Pappu & Co without actually initiating any over hostilities. While BJP will claim the opposite.

Your prescription of taking on POK is unrealistic. Not until the Kashmir valley is firmly integrated with India, and there is visible reduction in separatism and Paki ability to modulate things at will using their pigLeTs and nuke blackmail.

That I agree. However for a fight with us, the Chinese have the Paks. They will arm them heavily to keep us occupied. In a way the trade deficit(very expensive though) is sort of insurance against a China attack on LAC.

The Chinese are desperate to unleash their forces in a Khan style "shock & awe" campaign and show the world that they have arrived. They are looking for a victim and I am not yet convinced it will be us. At-least for the time being.

Canadian telcos tap Ericsson, Nokia for 5G gear, ditching Huawei

TORONTO/BENGALURU (Reuters) - Two of Canada's largest telecoms firms on Tuesday teamed with Sweden's Ericsson <ERICb.ST> and Finland's Nokia Oyj <NOKIA.HE> to build fifth-generation (5G) telecoms networks, ditching China's Huawei Technologies for the project.

Bell Canada <BCE.TO> and smaller rival Telus Corp <T.TO> eschewed Huawei, which analysts said would ease the Canadian government's thorny decision on whether to allow the company into Canada's 5G network.

Bell, Canada's second-largest cellphone provider by wireless revenue, announced it would partner with Ericsson for its core 5G network. Previously, it said Nokia would provide other parts of its 5G tech. Telus picked Ericsson and Nokia as its equipment suppliers, the company said in a separate statement. Rogers Communications <RCIb.TO>, the other dominant telecoms operator, has already partnered with Ericsson.

Last week, a Canadian court dealt a setback to Huawei Chief Financial Officer Meng Wanzhou as she tries to avoid extradition to the United States to face bank fraud charges.

Canada, which is reviewing security implications of 5G networks, has yet to decide on allowing Huawei to provide equipment for them.

The announcements put "a real monkey wrench into the spanner" for Huawei's business ambitions in Canada, said Lawrence Surtees, lead research analyst on communications at IDC Canada.

Although Huawei has contracts with smaller companies, and continues to provide some tech for Bell's network, the two companies "are substantial contracts and it's a nice piece of business for whoever gets it," he said.

Huawei said it supports Bell's strategy of selecting multiple equipment suppliers, referring to the Canadian telecom firm's relationship with Huawei to supply other network components.

Telecoms companies were in a bind due to the government's indecision.

"There is now equipment certainty and the use of multiple suppliers is an excellent strategy to help stimulate innovation and discipline pricing," Mark Goldberg, a telecoms industry consultant, said.

On Tuesday, Telefonica Deutschland <O2Dn.DE> picked Ericsson to build its 5G core mobile network in Germany, saying the choice would safeguard the security of its next-generation services.

(This story in paragraph 3, corrects Bell's description to Canada's second-largest cellphone provider by wireless revenue, not Canada's largest cellphone provider)
