Understanding the US - Again
Re: Understanding the US - Again
US preparing for caste based quotas. The University of California San Diego website says it will recruit Dalits and Muslims. It also warns non South Asians about unknowingly working with upper caste scholars, students and administrators. This is exactly how Jews were targeted and sacked en masse from German universities under the Nuremberg Laws.
Indian Govt needs to step in and offer a calibrated response.
First, cancel reservations in India and make everything merit based.
Next, revoke visas of goras and their chamchas who promote caste discrimination overseas.
Offer seats in Indian universities for Native American, Black and Hispanic students and faculty.

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) is responsible for enforcing federal laws that make it illegal to discriminate against a job applicant or an employee because of the person's race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy and related conditions, gender identity, and sexual orientation), national origin, age (40 or older), disability or genetic information.
Most employers with at least 15 employees are covered by EEOC laws (20 employees in age discrimination cases). Most labor unions and employment agencies are also covered.
The laws apply to all types of work situations, including hiring, firing, promotions, harassment, training, wages, and benefits.

Eric Garcetti, US Amb designate to India at the Senate Foreign Relations Committee during his confirmation hearing says he would bring up human rights & discrimination via the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) as a “core” piece of his engagement rather than as an obligation.
Garcetti has further stated, “There are groups that are actively fighting for the human rights of people on the ground in India that will get direct engagement from me”. Question is, do we need him in the country?

@KanwalSibal·10 Mar
Strange for incoming Amb to announce in advance he sees his core job will be to interfere in India’s internal affairs, core engagement will be to raise HR issues thru CAA& work actively with HR activists.
Is he coming to wreck ties or strengthen them?
Unprecedented.

Re: Understanding the US - Again
His nomination is about 2 years old.
India has had 2 solid years to oppose this nomination.
Either India has communicated its opposition and Biden has ignored it or India plans on dealing with it internally - Jaishankar seems to always prefer flying below radar to deal with such issues.
I suspect the prior - Biden the neocon has decided to take on Russia, China, and India (in dissimilar ways). I do not think Blinken was playing the role of a partner in ND during the Quad meet. He is bidding his time, a typical neocon move.
Meanwhile, Modi has actually reduced Indian FS, India today has less diplomats than Singapore.

It would be diplomatic and geopolitical suicide for any country to expel the US ambassador.
That said, it would be better to burn and shame him via the media, including the hindi and the local lingo press and embarrass the State Dept. We also have the freedom to speak, just as he thinks that he does

Just a word of caution on these so-called failures of banks. Silicon Valley Bank (SVB) had 70% of start ups under its belt. 40yrs in operation. SVB has many divisions and wanted to sell its Securities business (~20B around 10% of total assets) vs 200B SVB in total assets. Why? Because of interest hike by the feds to 4+%. Its secured bonds were at 1-1.5% yield. Someone did not like to pay higher premiums than that of 1% and complained. This caused a calculated move to clamp down FDIC into the picture. Classic case of mountain out of a molehill. They quickly sold UK unit of SVB to HSBC (yup!). The piranas are at the door & will devour the banks, which were doing fine, yes indeed. Another mismanagement, another crisis created out of thin air where none exists. Re: Understanding the US - Again
You are right about the technical aspects, but what remains unanswered is why pick on SVB for a bank run, knowing fully well that hitting SVB means hitting underbelly of tech or just a coincidence? Why damage SVB when hundreds of never-heard-regional banks are technically in the same position (in terms of unrealized loss on lower yielding bond portfolio)? There are many theories floating including a possibility that uncle is actively shrinking tech sector and that is why SVB.bala wrote: ...

Murray Rothbard said (mostly applicable to western fractional reserve banking):
The bank creates new money out of thin air, and does not, like everyone else, have to acquire money by producing and selling its services. In short, the bank is already and at all times bankrupt; but its bankruptcy is only revealed when customers get suspicious and precipitate “bank runs.
Re: Understanding the US - Again
SVB's problems are it's own doing. Regarding the tie-up with VCs and tech, it's because they were able to get away without paying any interest for those accounts, which made them blindsided to the fact that they actually needed to invest their funds wisely and minimize risk.
Re: Understanding the US - Again
The SVB management is not innocent as we are all led to believe. No Risk officer. Incompetent CFO ... all diversity hiring. They tried to hide 20B in losses but added a foot note in SEC filing. When Moody's called about downgrade, Ceo sold 11% stock. The shorts zoomed in.

The 20B is bonds which does not translate to 20B in losses. The loss in bonds is around 1.8B discount. BTW many people in the US are holding bonds with coupon rates of 1% and are facing losses, since the Feds increased the coupon rate to 4%.vijayk wrote: The SVB management is not innocent as we are all led to believe. Silicon Valley Bank Chief Executive Officer Greg Becker sold $3.6 million of company stock under a trading plan less than two weeks before the firm disclosed extensive losses that led to its failure.
The sale of 12,451 shares on Feb. 27 was the first time in more than a year that Becker had sold shares in parent company SVB Financial Group, according to regulatory filings. He filed the plan that allowed him to sell the shares on Jan. 26.
Re: Understanding the US - Again
Saar, this is misleading stuff posted by Bloomberg. All top officers of public company have to file a plan to sell company's stock. Becker and others sold their SVB stock based on the plan they submitted a year ago or more. This is legit. There is nothing hanky panky about it. They have to disclose how much they are planning on selling.chetak wrote:where there is a will there is usually a scam

The loss may be only $1.8 billion. But if the bank is forced meet more premature redemption/withdrawal of deposits. Loss is here and now when it is forced to more and more of its investments. As I read somewhere, the bank didn't have bonds/MBS that were eligible for financial accommodation from the Federal Reserve.

^^ Realized loss is $1.8B but unrealized loss was $20B. Hence Moody's called CEO to tell them they are downgrading them.

The amerikis are financially incompetent/lazy because they have mostly been able to print their way out of a crisis, and almost every financial crisis is seen as an itinerant and passing breeze whose only consequence is the swaying of leaves
this time, the very real fears of contagion (both deposit flight, and funding driven contagion) and the repercussions on the local and global markets (especially with ukr and its fallout, geo economic, as well as, geo political, dominating the center stage) have set the fed's and biden's langotes on fire
the fed and the rating agencies have always had a laissez-faire approach with a lot of unwarranted myth making of the "great and powerful" famed fed heads who simply oozed fabled financial acumen from every pore of their being.
The amerikis forget how the cheenis went down with their shiny and famous evergrande ship, despite the very effective cheeni management technique of the midnight knock followed by a bullet to the back of the head.
Every business school worldwide will vouch for the bracing characteristic of this technique and its innate ability to focus the minds of the rest of the team, motivating them and also setting new and higher standards in teamwork.
Yes, I know. Different times, different circumstances and even different country. But, the end result of the spreading contagion would have been exactly the same like mayhem in the markets, multiple suicides, and loss of national reputation
Their credit rating agencies, for many years now, have been used to run a smear campaign against the deep state designated target packages (countries and institutions) by selective and tactical downgrading or like in India's case, wilfully maintaining a lower than warranted and also a fictionally quantified assessment to cause doubts about viability and stability in the minds of the international investors
under biden and his puppet masters, the currently dominating commie core of the US state has become assertive, and is causing both geo economic, as well as, geo political ferment that is not only rippling in its effect but also causing unexpected upheavals.

India's CAA allows non-Muslim refugees facing persecution from Muslim-majority neighbors Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh. The Lautenberg Amendment, first enacted in 1990 to facilitate the resettlement of Jews from the former Soviet Union, has allowed HIAS to bring tens of thousands to safety. As the worldwide refugee situation changed, the Lautenberg Amendment, originally proposed by Senator Frank R. Lautenberg of New Jersey, was later expanded to include persecuted religious minorities in other countries, such as Jews, Christians, Baha’is, Sabaean-Mandaeans, and Zoroastrians from Iran. Despite being a crucial part of U.S. refugee policy, it expires each year and must be reauthorized.

Deserve. The word you are looking for is DESERVE, not “need”. Need has nothing to do with it in their minds. The needs of others do not exist for them. Altruism is a concept long ago sucked beyond the event horizon of the cultural resentment singularity they’ve created for themselves to dwell in.The Fox-bots do get very (i.e. overly) concerned that someone might get help who doesn’t really need it.
You see, POC {People Of Color} are lazy mooching bums who don’t want to work unless you chain-and-whip them to it and, left to their own shady devices, all they will do is leech off society and the benefits of the western civilization the white man so kindly provided to them, and for which they fail to show any proper gratitude, so they need to be starved and impoverished as motivation to engage in industry. White Christian conservatives on the other hand are inherently good, industrious, god-fearing, hardworking salt of the earth “real” Amurikkkans who gave everything to establish this country and make it “great”, and the only reason they do not have jobs and are not already rich, as was promised by trickle-down doctrine preached by Saint Reagan, is due to said laziness, fecklessness and unwillingness of POC to work, as the social assistance programs that incentivize and pay them to not do, which leads to them capturing all the trickle-down for themselves for literally doing nothing but reproducing faster than white Christians in order to commit white genocide. LOL
It is all a heady, deadly admixture of Prosperity Gospel, White Man’s Burden, Great Replacement white genocide hysteria and Confederate acculturation with a giant “how ****** dare you elect a black man POTUS” turd-coated-cherry on top.
