The COVID could very well be a more impactful black-swan event in US politics than Trump himself was in 2016. Everything from the economy to employment to healthcare-related issues to the willingness of supporters to attend large rallies (a key aspect of Trump's campaigning style) will be affected. How badly they are affected, or for how long, will make or break Trump in this election.

The only good news for Trump at this point is that he is facing Joe Biden, and the Hunter/Burisma angle is there. But even that may have been breached too early for it to make much difference by November.

^^^So far, the death rate of COVID-19 worldwide including China is 3% of infected. Outside of that it's more like 1%, but it makes it 10 times more lethal than the flu at 0.1%.

What is happening in the financial markets is that shareholders and CEOs aren't going to make profits from cheap goods made in China like the iPhone. For comings years, but the bigger story is that China for outsourcing all manufacturing has no come into question going forward. Every year there will be some virus which originates from China due to their bizzare exotic animal eating habits. I expect markets to see another 15% reduction in the next several weeks. Lot's of people are pissed including those with conservative investments. This will hurt Trump in the general election.

It could indeed. In more ways than one. If this COVID 19 goes out of hand and spreads like the flu, it is very possible that
a. Come election time, not many boomers (trump's base) will go out to vote
b. Even worse, a number from that base could be dead!

Like 2001, 2007/2008 global crisis etc, this global scrambling is going to set new norms in the global work force; and probably how companies get their work done. And maybe our way of life.

a. It is misconception to think only Trump's or Republican voters are only boomers. The majority of the US population is aging and they represent all voters.
b. The fatality rate is 1% from COVID-19. Your statement is asinine implying Trump's base could be dead by November.

Kennedys because their family was in politics long before JFK was in politics. Family of politicians. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kennedy_family

In 1960, the Kennedy family was within the top 100 wealthiest families in the US. JFK at the time of death had a net worth over $100 million. Joe Kennedy Sr. at the time of his death in 1969 had a net worth of $400 million (nearly $2.9 billion today). The only politician today is Bloomberg who has that type of money.

What part of "a number" sounds like all of Trump's base to you? And who said that Republican/Trump's voters are only boomers? Do read my post a little bit more carefully! I was alluding to the fact that trump received majority of votes in groups above 50 years and over.

WRT Covid19, The fatality rate from all accounts is 2-3% unless you have better sources.
From worldometer:
3.4% Mortality Rate estimate by the World Health Organization (WHO) as of March 3
In his opening remarks at the March 3 media briefing on Covid-19, WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stated:
“Globally, about 3.4% of reported COVID-19 cases have died. By comparison, seasonal flu generally kills far fewer than 1% of those infected.” [13]

The number in Italy so far it is far higher - around 6%

Uncle is about to print (well its digital money) few trillions more, and USD/INR depreciating to Rs. 75 . A good thought exercise is what if uncle printed another $10 trillion at near zero interest rates, what about $100 trillion? Those who are holders of $$ (e.g. India's fx reserve of $500bn approx.), will they complain, because their holdings are deflated right in their face? Inflation is a very controversial subject. In short, as long the world needs $$ (or Euros), undermining their own currencies, and willing to sell its toys/gizmos/commodities to earn $$ (or Euros), including super low energy prices, and cost of funds, inflation will remain low.

She destroyed her career in donkey party by endorsing Burnee in 2016, who turned out to be a complete looser - he didn't win last time, and was quite clear from the beginning that he won't win this time either. Better to kiss the establishment ring now if nothing is going to be achieved by going against the flow. Plus burnee has surrounded himself with hindu phobic people who have taken direct shots at her.

endorsing Sanders was not an option for her. Apparently (according to a tweet by her brother Jai Gabbard) the Sanders team, and likely Sanders himself rejected her and her support, and overall treated her "like sh*t". Looks like the Islamists in charge of Sanders and his campaign successfully tagged Tulsi as a Hindu Fascist. I don't have Jai's tweet in front of me, but IIRC it said something like, Sanders today is not the same Sanders we supported in 2016.

IMO, it is a bit simplistic to tag Tulsi as "anti-establishment"-- all those opposing the establishment for the sake of opposing are mostly with Sanders. Tulsi was always for a rational foreign policy, and a sensible, people-friendly domestic policy, without any crooked shenanigans. The establishment found that terrifying.

It is more accurate to say that the establishment is anti-Tulsi, rather than the other way around.

Partly agree with this. My point was however that this move probly will cost her in terms of support. Simplistic perhaps but I don't expect her supporters to understand. I do think that the Desi element will however continue to support her based on your reasoning about Sanders' campaign being infested by ISI crowd.

Some gloom and doom from usual characters who get paid for speeches and articles, but challenging times are coming. Time to buckle up. Wouldn't be surprised if the pain spreads to the rest of the world and India in Q2/Q3.

Fed's Bullard: Coronavirus shutdown not a recession but an investment in survival
...
30% UNEMPLOYMENT A POSSIBILITY
Bullard’s ballpark estimate is that unemployment could hit 30%, higher than in the Great Depression and three times more than the 2007-2009 recession. Output in the second quarter could be half the norm, a hit of about $2.5 trillion.

That is unavoidable if the virus is to be contained through “social distancing” or government orders to stay at home.
