Wait for the pressure on Indian billionaires to model themselves after this. This form of western giving is actually nauseating and trumpeted by those who themselves build long term family legacies and institutions. I think of the kings who built grand temples and protected them for centuries, those who worked to eradicate a disease and create an impact on human civilization, those who built industries (as in Japan) that continue for centuries.

https://www.forbes.com/sites/stevenbert ... 2262583a2a

That's Feeney—understated profile, oversize impact. No longer a secret, his extreme charity and big-bet grants have won over the most influential entrepreneurs and philanthropists. His stark generosity and gutsy investments influenced Bill Gates and Warren Buffett when they launched the Giving Pledge in 2010—an aggressive campaign to convince the world’s wealthiest to give away at least half their fortunes before their deaths. “Chuck was a cornerstone in terms of inspiration for the Giving Pledge,” says Warren Buffett. “He’s a model for us all. It’s going to take me 12 years after my death to get done what he’s doing within his lifetime.”

Feeney gave big money to big problems—whether bringing peace to Northern Ireland, modernizing Vietnam’s health care system, or spending $350 million to turn New York’s long-neglected Roosevelt Island into a technology hub. He didn’t wait to grant gifts after death or set up a legacy fund that annually tosses pennies at a $10 problem. He hunted for causes where he can have a dramatic impact and went all-in.

The liberal crowd would have probably gone crazy if it was anything but Blacks or muslims in this headline. Imagine having Hindu in headline or even Indian. There are many customs and traditions that Hindus believe in that gets ignored by non Hindu doctors and hospitals in US.

Trump will try to appoint someone before elections for sure. That effort alone will create many more riots and many more sweeping in MSM. In the end this will end up with US SC ruling on postal ballets for sure. No one is going to accept the results also. Four more years of continuous fight. If Dems take majority in the senate then expect more hearings on Russia and what not.

Alleged unwanted hysterectomies and other abuses at ICE facility prompts investigation

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nat ... 482369001/

This story is mostly a fake story drummed up by left and democrats. The doctor in question is Mahendra Amin, an Indian sounding name. There are several red flags with the story.

https://apnews.com/f2008d23c5f9087f4214d9722dfb097e

Amin has performed surgery or other gynecological treatment on at least eight women detained at Irwin County Detention Center since 2017, including one hysterectomy, said Andrew Free, an immigration and civil rights lawyer working with other attorneys to investigate medical treatment at the jail.
...
The AP’s review did not find evidence of mass hysterectomies as alleged in a widely shared complaint filed by a nurse at the detention center. Dawn Wooten alleged that many detained women were taken to an unnamed gynecologist whom she labeled the “uterus collector” because of how many hysterectomies he performed.

So the guy performed a grand total of 8 surgeries since 2017 and only one hysterectomy.

The complaint sparked a furious reaction from congressional Democrats and an investigation by the Department of Homeland Security’s inspector general. It also evoked comparisons to previous government-sanctioned efforts in the U.S. to sterilize people to supposedly improve society — victims who were disproportionately poor, mentally disabled, American Indian, Black or other people of color. Thirty-three states had forced sterilization programs in the 20th century.

But a lawyer who helped file the complaint said she never spoke to any women who had hysterectomies. Priyanka Bhatt, staff attorney at the advocacy group Project South, told The Washington Post that she included the hysterectomy allegations because she wanted to trigger an investigation to determine if they were true.

“I have a responsibility to listen to the women I’ve spoken with,” Bhatt told the AP on Friday. She said one woman alleged that she was repeatedly pressured to have a hysterectomy and that authorities said they would not pay for her to get a second opinion.

Amin told The Intercept, which first reported Wooten’s complaint, that he has only performed one or two hysterectomies in the past three years. His attorney, Scott Grubman, said in a statement: “We look forward to all of the facts coming out, and are confident that once they do, Dr. Amin will be cleared of any wrongdoing.”

The desi left lawyer never spoke to any hysterectomy victim, but just wanted to trigger investigation anyway, in her own words. And people are falling for this propaganda.

TikTok Lobbyists Took Case Against Ban to Trump Campaign

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles ... t=business
TikTok lobbyists told Trump campaign officials that an all-out ban on the app could sour millions of voters against him in the November election, taking aim at one of the president’s top concerns, according to people familiar with the matter.

TikTok walked campaign officials through how the app works in detail and explained that the platform has 100 million U.S. users, many of whom are of voting age, said one of the people, all of whom asked not to be named because they weren’t unauthorized to speak publicly on the matter.

The recent briefings also pointed out that TikTok’s largest markets are key battleground states for the 2020 election, including Florida. The TikTok lobbyists also shared data on how young Trump supporters have grown increasingly active on the app, the person familiar said

Hopefully she went back better educated.

Centuries? Buddhist? Speaking at event organized by Hindus? Scratch my head. I guess that if one counts enough centuries then there would be millennias.

Sewa Hosts Hate Crimes Webinar with HPD
http://www.indoamerican-news.com/sewa-h ... -with-hpd/
Houston: The Hindu humanitarian organization, Sewa International, recently hosted a webinar titled Hate Crimes: What are They and How Can We Respond? The event was moderated by Ranjana Bedi, director of Hindus of Greater Houston, and Anup Bhasin, director of disaster relief for Sewa.
.....
At the same time, Magnun also cautioned not to jump to conclusions because “things may not always be as they appear,” noting for example, the centuries-old “peaceful swastika” that may show up on Buddhist statues or artwork, but was co-opted and repurposed by the Nazis. Magnun said it’s important for both the public, and for HPD, to be educated on varying cultural symbolisms so innocent depictions are not unfairly misconstrued.

Have been watching the drama of the supreme court judge nomination and confirmation since Bret Kavanaugh.

I totally don't understand why the slavocratic party of America has this problem.

I mean that the job of any impartial judiciary is to give judgement on the basis of the laws enacted by the legislature. That stand within the 4 posts of the constitution of any country.

So if the constitution allows for a specific reading then it makes no difference in the political leaning of the judge.

So why create such a ruckus, each time a republican nominates a judge.

Bush might not have been the president, perhaps Gore might have been if elephant nominated to donkey nominated SC judges ratio had been 4:5 instead of 5:4.

Basically lawmakers don't seem to make any real laws - everything is deferred to supreme court to interpret. This makes SC even more important. Hence amendments are few and far between but what judges say defines the law of the land. This makes their expected 'bend' - right or left or centrist - very important. And some of the judges really to one extreme and others to the other extreme.

Don't forget the history here. Mitch McConnell had absolutely refused to even consider Obama's nominee for the Supreme court in 2016 after Anthony Scalia died under the pretext that an election was just months away so only the new president to should fill the seat. That argument applies here even more since there are barely 2 months left before the election now. Obviously McConell is arguing the exact opposite now since there is a Republican president. Can't really get more hypocritical than that but it is entirely to be expected. In politics, only numbers matter, not principles. Dems would have done the same in McConell's position though they might claim otherwise.

The problem of course is in the US political system. Not having term limits/age limits for Supreme court justices is stupid and only encourages rampant politicization of the SC. Thank god we don't have this system in India.

@nachiket ji, On the other side, on the other hand, late RGB argued for a nomination back in 2016. Her dying wish was exactly opposite of that.

There are two mitigating factors here.

1. That came in Obama's second term.
2. As McConnel says, both Senate and POTUS are from GOP.

They are going to use the "Reid Option" (that is simple majority confirmation). Harry Reid screwed up in the first place. McConnell warned at that time that it going to prove very costly for democrats in future. Next up is expansion of the SC to 13 judges.

Dems did mess up big time when they removed 60 vote rule. Now it is coming to bite then in the a*s.

DT specifically promised that he will appoint conservative judges during his election in 2016. So as far as DT concerned he is not going to do anything wrong.

In any event the entire election will now be pushed both side on this issue.

Part of a plan. There is angst that Bush & Trump won because of the electoral college. Hence the move towards favoring a majority vote. No matter what happens with this nomination, if the White House and Senate flip, the addition of 2-4 senators and 2-4 justices as is being floated will be pursued.

This is party politics when you have a majority in one house that confirms the selection and the executive branch which makes the selection. If the opposition party were in the same position, they would do the exact same.

We see the same behavior in bills too. In India the INC opposed the GST, yet it was originally proposed by them, and now the farm bill. History means nothing. That was then, this is now - and if you have the majority, cash it in.

X-posted from India-US relations thread:

If Biden wants to get Indian-American votes then he should say that he would nominate Sri Srinivasan to fill the US Supreme Court position left by Ginsburg's death today. Sri Srinivasan is a Hindu and is a federal judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.

He got on the appeals court in a Senate vote of 97-0 under Obama in 2013. He was a contender for SCOTUS when Scalia died in 2016.

Don't know. He's kept his faith which is more than can be said for United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit - Amul Thapar who converted to Catholicism. Much like Bobby Jindal or like born again Nikki Haley. He's the only high ranking federal judge who took his oath on the Gita.

Hard to say if there's any advantage for Hindus or India even if Sri Srinivasan's name comes up now or in future. There's an Indian born judge by name Amit Mehta in US dist.court in Washington DC who just threw out a case filed by 169 Indian petitioners who are stuck outside the country with pending USCIS applications (visa renewals). There's also another conservative favorite , Neomi Rao who is a circuit judge from the US court of appeals for DC, she has converted to Judaisim post marriage and rather ironically written some harsh things about "multiculturalism" despite being born to immigrant parents from India.

The history actually goes back a lot further than that. Robert Bork (1987), Clarence Thomas (1990, I think, or maybe 1991). That's what started all the bile / venom flowing.

Dems would have done the same in McConell's position though they might claim otherwise.

Without a doubt.

The problem of course is in the US political system. Not having term limits/age limits for Supreme court justices is stupid and only encourages rampant politicization of the SC.

A good summary of the problem.

Trump won’t commit to peaceful transfer of power if he loses the election

President Donald Trump refused Wednesday to commit to a peaceful transition of power if he loses the 2020 election to Democratic nominee Joe Biden.

“Well, we’ll have to see what happens. You know that. I’ve been complaining very strongly about the ballots. And the ballots are a disaster,” Trump said at a news conference at the White House.

When the reporter noted that “people are rioting,” Trump replied: “Get rid of the ballots, and you’ll have a very – you’ll have a very peaceful – there won’t be a transfer, frankly, there’ll be a continuation.”

Minutes later, the president abruptly left the briefing room, telling the press, “I have to leave to take an emergency phone call.”
