FATF communique says on this issue that Terroristsn should be,
(8) demonstrating effective implementation of targeted financial sanctions (supported by a comprehensive legal obligation) against all 1267 and 1373 designated terrorists and those acting for or on their behalf, including preventing the raising and moving of funds, identifying and freezing assets (movable and immovable), and prohibiting access to funds and financial services;
The problem for us is China. By blocking UNSC from declaring JeM's Masood Azhar and UJC/HuM's Syed Salahudin as global terrorists under UNSC 1267 rules, it has enabled these two routes for terror funding and terrorism in J&K.

JeM is banned under 1267 but its Emir cannot be because of China's strange logic that there is not enough proof. What more proof does one need than the IC-814 hijacking?

The fact that Syed Salahudin is an Indian and yet China puts 'technical hold' on him being declared under 1267 based on Indian requests and Indian documentation proves conclusively the inimical nature of China vis-a-vis India and its terror collusion with Pakistan.

China must be branded as a terror-supporter itself for these acts.

JeM was designated by the UN Security Council resolution 1267 on Oct. 17, 2001. Designated as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) by the US on December, 26, 2001 and banned by Pakistan on Jan 12, 2002. However, the ban order was not applicable to PoK, NA and FATA leaving a loophole for JeM & Masood Azhar to operate freely in these areas. Pakistan didn't ban JeM under 1267 or 1373.

With China as Vice-chair of FATF, Pakistan may once again escape in the next review. In the June review, it should have gone on the black list.

One More Example Of Engineered Election

After Nawaz Sharif comes to defence, PML-N candidate denies foul play by military establishment
KARACHI: Just a day after Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif turned his guns towards military establishment for “forcing the party candidates to change their loyalties to ensure his party’s defeat in the polls”, PML-N candidate Rana Iqbal Siraj denied foul play by the ISI [Inter-Services Intelligence].Rana, who had earlier alleged that members of a security service agency had tortured him in his warehouse due to refusal to withdraw from the upcoming general elections, said via a video message that the “incident was the result of a misunderstanding”.
On Saturday, the PML-N candidate also told mediapersons that he was being asked to visit the agency’s local office.
“They said they will destroy my business and harm my family,” he had also said.
Visibly frustrated by the recent desertions of several ticketholders of his party, deposed prime minister Nawaz Sharif had also alleged that the PML-N candidates were being forced to change their loyalties to ensure his party’s defeat in the polls.Talking to reporters outside Harley Street Clinic where his wife Kulsoom Nawaz is being kept on ventilator for the past few weeks, the PML-N supremo had said, “Our election candidates are being called up and threatened. Such events will be damaging for the country’s future.”

“I’ve talked to Rana Siraj and he told me that his godown was raided to end his association with me. He was summoned to the ISI office in Multan and pressured to return the PML-N ticket,” Nawaz had said, adding that Siraj was warned that they will destroy his business and victimise his wife and children. He had added, “PML-N ticket holders in Rajanpur and Sargodha have also been forced to stand as independent candidates…anyone standing by me is under threat, massive pre-poll rigging is happening all over Pakistan.”
Maryam Nawaz had also claimed earlier that PML-N’s candidates for the upcoming general elections were being targeted.

The making of the Kargil Disaster - an inside story.

https://www.dawn.com/news/1417105/the-m ... l-disaster

This is interesting for the number of assumptions that the Pakistani Army made in the Kargil disaster [for them]

But it is also quite a bit of face saving for the civilian authorities.

Kargil "Adventure" - The Inside Story !
It Was Built On A House Of Cards .
Ganja Got Sucked In. and for the sake of Paki Echendee , initially supported it but later opposed it
Ganja was informed of the operation in a meeting , when the operation was well under way .
All the generals, who criticize the operation now, were then "fully on board"
Senile Sartaj - the FM at that time - sternly opposed the op, as he felt it was against the Lahore Declaration !
On May 17, 1999, the prime minister was given a detailed operational briefing on Operation Koh Paima (Op KP). It was held at the Inter Services Intelligence’s (ISI’s) Ojhri Camp office, only a few miles away from Islamabad, against the backdrop of Indian press reports claiming that Mujahideen under fire cover provided by Pakistani soldiers had infiltrated along the Line of Control (LoC)…
The Director General Military Operations (DGMO) Lt Gen Tauqir Zia gave the detailed presentation. The entire Kargil clique, including the army chief Gen Pervez Musharraf, the Chief of General Staff Lt Gen Aziz Khan, Commander 10 Corps Lt Gen Mahmud Ahmed, and Commander Force Command Northern Areas (FCNA) Brigadier Javed Hassan, was present. Key men from ISI in attendance included the DG ISI Lt Gen Ziauddin Butt, director analysis wing Major Gen Shahid Aziz, and ISI’s point man for Afghanistan and Kashmir Maj Gen Jamshed Gulzar, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, accompanied by the Foreign Minister Sartaj Aziz, the Finance Minister, the Minister for Northern Areas and Kashmir Affairs Lt Gen (r) Majeed Malik, the Foreign Secretary Shamshad Ahmad, and his principal secretary Saeed Mehdi.
Flattery was in abundance. The CGS piled on more, “Sir, you will go down in the history of Pakistan as the PM in whose tenure Kashmir was resolved.”

PTM Movement Leaders Expelled . PTM Is "Not Interested" In Fighting Paki Election. !

Mohsin Dawar, 6 other PTM leaders removed for contesting polls
Seven members of the Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement's (PTM) core committee were removed from the PTM for their involvement in the upcoming elections, a senior leader told DawnNewsTV on Sunday.Dr Syed Alam Mehsud confirmed that Mohsin Dawar, Ali Wazir, Abdullah Nangiyal, Irshad Tony, Hamid Sherani, Abdul Wahid and Jamal Maliyar were all removed from the core committee as they are contesting the upcoming polls.Dr Mehsud said the decision was taken in the presence of the PTM's core committee led by Manzoor Pashteen.
He explained that since the PTM has no membership process and comprises just of the core committee, removal from the committee effectively means removal from the PTM.
Dr Mehsud said that the PTM is a movement that was created to fight for people's rights, and has no ambition to be involved in politics or elections.
It will be interesting to see how the "new" Paki (civilian) Govt reacts to the PTM Movement !

Disappearance Of A Missing Scientist Remains A Mystery

Enforced disappearance a heinous offence: IHC
July 1, 2018
ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has ruled that enforced disappearance is a “heinous offence” and officials involved in such a crime should be “proceeded against for misconduct besides criminal proceedings”.Justice Athar Minallah in his written order in a case related to a missing scientist associated with a sensitive organisation and his spouse expressed dissatisfaction over a report submitted by the Ministry of Defence according to which the missing couple, Nozair Hasan and his wife Omaima Hasan, were not in the custody of Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) or the Military Intelligence (MI).The defence ministry, however, informed the IHC that it had initiated a special probe into the matter but it was time consuming.
Anyone who can say that the defence ministry will conduct an objective probe is living in a fool's paradise !
Judge expresses dissatisfaction over interior ministry’s response on missing scientist and spouse. Justice Minallah’s written order stated that the report of defence ministry “is evasive and does not explain efforts made by the intelligence agencies to gather information regarding the incident and whereabouts of the couple”.During the hearing, the judge pointed out that this was the 90th case of enforced disappearance reported since January 2018.“It is not enough for the secretary, ministry of defence to state that the missing couple is not in the custody of the intelligence agencies…In any event, no citizen can be taken into custody by any agency without due process of law.”The order added: “It is also noted that taking into custody any citizen of Pakistan otherwise than under the law tantamount to a heinous offence, which inter alia may expose the official to be proceeded against for misconduct besides criminal proceeding.”The judge directed the defence secretary to inform the court as to “whether the intelligence agencies under the control of his ministry lack the capacity and competence to safeguard fundamental rights of citizens by failing to trace the missing couple”.
Unless you have a foreign passport as "insurance" ( like Journo Gul Bukhari !) , you will join the ranks of the "disappeared" :D
The judge warned that in case the authorities failed to submit a satisfactory response, they “shall explain as to why they may not be held accountable and proceeded against for breach of their duty”. In his petition, Nozair Hasan’s father Khubaib Hasan stated that at about 2a.m. on Jan 12 a contingent of masked armed men attired in black uniform along with some people in plainclothes trespassed into their residence and carried out a search.
They not only harassed the couple but also abducted them in front of their two minor children, it added. The FIR was lodged with the police on Jan 17. The petition requested the court to direct the respondents to produce his son and daughter-in-law safe and sound before the court.

It would be interesting to know the reason why the scientist was made to disappear - divulging "state secrets" , did not like what he saw at work and made some noises, was not of the right ethnicity . Could be lots of reasons !!

Economy set to face tougher challenges in FY19

KARACHI: Pakistan’s economy received multiple jolts during fiscal year 2018 and almost all economic indicators worsened.

However, the issue is that the worst time has yet to come. The economy is faced with new and bigger challenges in fiscal year 2019.

The economy took off with Gross Domestic Product (GDP) being declared at a decade high level of 5.3% in fiscal 2017. It achieved a 13-year high growth of around 5.7-5.8% in FY18. However, now it is estimated to recede to 4.7-4.8% in FY19.

Economic fundamentals have deteriorated over the previous year and are set to mess up the economy down the road.

“The water crisis may further hamper economic growth in fiscal year 2019,” BMA Capital’s Economist Muhammad Fawad Khan said in a comment to The Express Tribune. As per international organisations, Pakistan is likely to face a major water crisis by 2025. The crisis may slow down agriculture growth this fiscal year. Its share in the economy stands at around one-fifth.

Initial reports have suggested that cotton farmers, mainly in Sindh, have failed to sow seeds at a large part of the targeted area of around 3 million hectares due to water scarcity this summer season.

The economist said FY18 had started on a positive note with GDP expected to grow. However, political uncertainty, due to this being election year, has hampered prospects.

“The optimistic scenario is turning into a more cautious or pessimistic outlook going forward,” he said.

Political uncertainty may persist in the post-election era, as there remains a tendency by the losing political party to begin a blame game. “It [street agitation] depends on who comes into power,” Khan said.

Going to IMF

Given the bleak economic scenario, where the country’s foreign currency reserves have dropped to a critical level of less than two months import cover at $9.66 billion on June 22, 2018; “it is an obvious scenario that Pakistan will enter into the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) [bailout] programme sometime late first quarter and early second quarter (September-October 2018)”, he said.

The government has set a GDP growth target of 6% for fiscal year 2019. However, “we [BIPL Securities] estimate economic growth at 4.8% in fiscal year 2018-19”, BIPL Securities Economist Jahanzeb Zafar stated the other day. Poor performance on the economic front also suggests that Pakistan may face a crisis in fiscal year 2019 if corrective measures are not taken on time, he said.

“Pakistan has been facing the problem of a current account deficit since last year and in 2018-19 it faces a balance of payments crisis as well as currency weakening … all this suggests a crisis in the making,” he added.

“We expect…11% more currency devaluation in FY19, two percentage points hike in key interest rate to 8.5% by December 2018 and upward adjustment of energy/utility prices to reduce fiscal burden.

“As a result, inflation is likely to average 8.5% in FY19; but current account deficit might scale down,” Insight Securities’ analyst Zeshan Afzal said in a comment to his clients.

FY18 result card

The just-ended fiscal year has seen the rupee depreciate by over 15% to Rs121.49 to the US dollar. The currency remained flat at around Rs105.5 in the first five months (July-November 2017), but weakened massively in three rounds since December 2017.

The drop in the rupee was made to help revive sluggish exports, slow down exorbitant imports and attract higher workers remittances in a bid to narrow down trade and current account deficits. In addition to the depreciation, the government extended export package worth Rs180 billion and imposed additional regulatory duties on imports. The measures slightly pushed up exports, but largely failed to slow down imports.

Import bill hit a historic high of $5.8 billion in May 2018 with a massive recovery in fuel oil prices in international markets and continued import of machinery for the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects. Pakistan heavily relies on imported energy, which comes to one-fourth of the total import bill.

Besides, the central bank increased the key interest rate by 75 basis points to 6.5%d uring the year to deal with the inflationary pressure in the making due to rupee depreciation and high imports.

Current account deficit shot up 43% to $15.96 billion in the first 11 months of the outgoing fiscal year.

The import of goods in the 11 months has reached $50.71 billion, which is much higher than the government’s set target of $48.8 billion for the full-year. While, exports stood at $22.78 billion during the months.

Workers’ remittances have improved 3% to $18.03 billion in the months, the trend suggests it would remain lower than the set target of $20.7 billion for the full-year.

The foreign direct investment dropped 1.3% to $2.47 billion compared to $2.50 billion in the same period last fiscal year.

Independent experts said the country needs $5 billion to pay off debt and make interest payments by December 2018 in addition to the existing foreign current reserves to successfully avert a default-like situation.

Amid upheaval, Rs857b wiped off Pakistan’s stock market

KARACHI: A transitional phase can be tricky, to say the least, and especially complicated when a leadership change is involved. Pakistan will not see one, two, or three, but four prime ministers change seats in just over a year. Three sat on the coveted title just during the recently-concluded fiscal year.

As Pakistan battled the change in leadership, the economy suffered, uncertainty prevailed and short-term measures were taken to address long-standing issues.

The stock market may not necessarily reflect performance of an economy as a whole, but does convey market sentiment; whether the outlook is positive or are there bumps on the road ahead.

In Pakistan’s case, the last 12 months were a tough ride for stock market participants who saw the country move towards a balance of payments crisis, higher inflation and interest rates as well as lower earnings of listed companies.

As a result, savings took a hit, investments were squeezed, and wealth was significantly reduced. In a nutshell, over Rs857 billion was wiped off Pakistan’s stock market in what was the worst year for the KSE-100 Index since the disastrous 2008-09 period when the global financial crisis hit.

After eight years of posting positive returns, the KSE-100 – a benchmark for market performance – ended with a 10% loss over the course of 12 months starting July 2017. The index fell from 46,565 to 41,911 during the year, but it doesn’t convey the story.

Additionally, a 10% retreat may only qualify as a correction, but in dollar terms an investor lost close to 22% on average since the rupee weakened, shrinking the amount even more.

Image

It makes Pakistan one of the worst performing markets in the world in FY18 with third consecutive year of foreign outflow, wrote Topline Securities in a year-ender note on the KSE-100.

“We attribute this below-par performance to increased political noise amid upcoming general elections, deterioration in the external account and continued foreign selling,” stated the brokerage house.

Foreigners were net sellers of $286 million, a lower number compared with FY17, but with the emerging market status, it surprised market followers especially when the expected inflow did not meet expectations.

Not one mutual fund posted a positive return with fiscal-year losses going as high as 24%. With such earnings, fund managers endured one of the toughest years since FY09. Even brokerage houses, which rely mostly on commission, saw their income squeeze as average traded volume plunged by 50% year-on-year to 175 million shares.

Cement, banks, oil and automobiles were among the worst-hit, and each had its own reason. But overall, what the stock market endured was a result of poor decisions, lack of political will to bring about meaningful change, and inconsistent policy ahead of the general elections. Add the change in leadership more times than expected and you have all the ingredients of a bearish run.

On the economic front, the rupee, the previous government’s long-standing symbol of strength and power, lost value due to falling foreign exchange reserves that remained under pressure due to mounting debt payment obligations and heavy imports.

Foreign shipments may have made their way into the country due to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), and it may result in higher growth down the road, but the price is being paid by Pakistan at the moment.

In such a scenario, when individuals are uncertain and macroeconomic indicators fail to improve, the economy usually goes through a stagnation phase. This is the reason why most international agencies forecast a lower GDP growth for Pakistan next year.

Tax amnesty scheme

The previous government also pinned hope on the tax amnesty scheme, the single largest measure to attract inflows into the country and increase tax revenue, but with trust deficit and corruption – the major reasons why money flew out in the first place – at the same level, there is little reason to believe that it would change fate drastically.

Additionally, even if there is a one-time inflow of money, it may prove to be a short-lived reprieve with the import bill, debt repayments remaining Pakistan’s kryptonite.

Road ahead

Clarity may prevail after the general elections are held towards the end of the month, but a hung parliament with no clear majority may stall economic decision-making.

What Pakistan needs right now is a clear roadmap with decision-making being consistent and tough. If the power sector needs revamping, tough decisions will need to be made including significant crackdowns. If tax revenue is to be increased, then the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and provincial arms will have to adopt strictness and fairness.

The country’s security situation may have improved since 2013, but underlying issues have remained the same.

Additional Information :

1. PSX - Friday Jun 29, 2018 Closing Index : 41910.90
Market Capitalization : Rs 8,665,045,026,016 @US$ 1 = Rs.124.50 = US$ 70.60 Billion

2. S&P BSE SENSEX Friday Jun 29, 2018 Closing Index : 35,423.48
Market Capitalization : Rs 145,019.42 Billion @ US$ 1 = Rs 68.5753 = US$ 2,114.75 Billion

Thus with less than One Seventh the Economy, One Sixth the Population, One Thirtieth the Stop Market Cap and Officially One Seventh the Defence Budget, Terroristan is able to maintain One Half the Defence Personnel and Equipment as compared to India! Any Takers? :rotfl:

Fortress USA Established In The Heart Of Isloo

New US embassy inaugurated in Islamabad
July 2, 2018
ISLAMABAD - A ceremony to mark the opening of a new consular facility, offices and residences was held at the US embassy in Islamabad.
US Ambassador David Hale, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Alice Wells and Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations Project Director Tracy Thomas participated in the observance.
Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Hale said the new embassy provides a modern and environmentally sustainable platform for diplomacy between our two nations. He said it represents an enduring American commitment to the Pakistani people.
Since work began in 2011, over 10,000 people have contributed 30 million work hours to complete the project, which added 24 billion rupees to the local economy through employment opportunities and the use of local products.
Many Paki Uber patriots and Islamists are disappointed that the Paki Govt gave approval to the USA to go ahead and built one of the largest US Embassy in the whole world . In the conspiracy laden environment of Pakistan, many suspect that the complex is full of electronic gizmos that will be used for "anti-Pakistan" purposes by their "ally" USA. And some have alleged that it is going to be a "nest of spies" similar to the then US Embassy in the heart of Tehran

More knuckle raps for Pakistan as key Trump aide heads to Islamabad today?

NEW DELHI: A day after a top Donald Trump aide rapped Pakistan, again, for not bringing the Taliban within its borders to heel, she heads to Islamabad today for crucial talks, and perhaps more knuckle raps.

"Pakistan has an important role to play…but we have not yet seen that sustained and decisive action on the part of Islamabad," said Trump aide Alice Wells, principal deputy assistant secretary for the State Department's Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs, to reporters in Kabul, reported AP.

Wells said that since the Afghan government and the US are willing to start talking without preconditions, the onus was now on the Taliban to respond. And the Taliban in neighbouring Pakistan is big problem.

"Right now, it's the Taliban leaders…who aren't residing in Afghanistan, who are the obstacle to a negotiated political settlement," said Wells, according to AFP.

Wells will hold crucial talks this week in Islamabad - her third visit to Pakistan this year - to explore the possibility of resuming the Afghan reconciliation process. She's expected to meet senior officials at Pakistan foreign office as well as military authorities, reported Pakistan's The Express Tribune.

The Trump administration has been putting huge pressure on Pakistan - royally castigating it in public and withholding as much as $200 million in aid - to do more in the fight against terrorism.

Just last week, a global terror funding watchdog put it on an uncomplimentary 'gray list' for not doing enough to cut off the legs from under terror organisations and terrorists who roam freely in the country spreading hate and disharmony and of course launching attacks on neighbours including India and Pakistan.

But Islamabad has its own reservations - including the threat posed by the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan - or the Pakistani Taliban - and its affiliates operating out of Afghanistan. According to the Tribune, the elimination of terrorist Mullah Fazlullah seems to "suggest a new understanding between Pakistan, Afghanistan and the US", whatever that means.

Last month, the leader of the Pakistani Taliban was killed by a drone strike, not in Pakistan, but in neighbouring Afghanistan's remote Kunar province. He's been on Pakistan's most-wanted list for years and was the man behind the shooting in the head of Nobel Laureate Malala Yousafzai.

Pakistan is upbeat about the meeting this week with Wells despite tensions with the US.

"The Pak-US relation is on an upward trajectory. The negotiations are ongoing between both sides as we seek to find common ground in the bilateral relationship," said a Pakistan foreign office spokesperson, two days before Wells had stern words for Islamabad, reported the Tribune.

If This News Report Is To Be Believed , Confiscated Liquor And Narcotics Is " Well Taken Care Of " "Under The Table, In Spite Of The Public Display Of Destruction

Where the confiscated liquor evaporates?
Islamabad: Every year quite a large quantity of smuggled liquor, beer and wine is confiscated by the customs, the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF), the Rangers and the Coastguards all over the country. Besides these the authorities also confiscate tons and tons of narcotics including heroin, hashish and contraband chemicals.
Every year, the ANF arrange a massive ‘narcotics destruction’ campaign to observe the international anti-narcotics day. And on the day the ANF burns quite a huge quantity of narcotics confiscated from different parts of the country and also crushes hundreds of thousands of bottles and cans of confiscated liquor, wine and bear under the road rollers as well . Exercise in public relations IMO, to give the (wrong ) impression that the Paki public is 110% teetotaler and 99.99% non-charsi. It is a well known fact that some Paki Mullahs are fans of the haram stuff , and some senior members of the Paki fauj like their single malt scotch
However, questions have always been raised over the transparency of this whole exercise and there always were hushed whispers and rumours, especially concerning the destruction of confiscated liquor, wine and beer bottles and cans.
It is rumoured that many eateries in Karachi, La-Whore and Isloo serve "coca cola" ( coke !) laced with the illegal stuff to their "valued customers" !
There are always rumours, whispers and gossips that most of those bottles crushed under the drums of the road rollers are filled with water or low quality, locally produced liquor while the actual stuff is already ‘taken care of’, Some of it making its way to the people occupying positions in the highest echelons of power in this city. ( and in other parts of Pakiland !)
And the recent incident of a raid on the house of a foreigner in sector F-8 from where massive quantities of imported liquor of all types were recovered have exposed number of malpractices and corruption.
Knowing some "right" persons in the bureaucracy and by using sifarish one can escape these kind of "horrors" :D
Interestingly, the foreigner whose house was raided by the Islamabad Police turned out to be a North Korean diplomat, who at the time of the raid was not present at home. The ‘First Information Report’ (FIR) filed by the Korean diplomat revealed that over a thousand bottles of liquor, wine and beer were taken away by the raiding party of the police.
There were unconfirmed reports in the past, the NOKOS , use this tactic ( sell liquor to the locals ) to replenish precious foreign exchange , which is lacking because of UN and US sanctions imposed on the regime !
The North Korean diplomat brought the relevant documents and official confirmation from the Foreign Office ascertaining his status and demanded recovery of the items taken away from his place by the Islamabad Police. But after passage of many months the Islamabad Police has not be able to return the goods because those have disappeared from the Islamabad Police possession, evaporated in thin air, vanished without a trace. The in-charge of the raiding party has been tactfully avoiding the inquiry to explain as to why and on whose orders or directions he conducted that raid which caused embarrassment to the Foreign Office.
The North Koreans probably did not factor in the endemic corruption prevailing in a country like Pakistan
The intriguing factor in the whole situation is his suspected contacts with the top bosses in the Islamabad Police who are protecting him while he is continuing to avoid disclose as to where that confiscated liquor, wine and beer in addition to other valuables have gone which the North Korean diplomat claimed have been taken away in the raid from his residence in his absence.
All this could have been avoided if the North Koreans had "taken into confidence" some higher ups in the Isloo Police
Investigations carried out by this scribe have revealed some startling facts. There exists a whole network not only in the Islamabad Police but in other cities and they are working in collaboration with each other. The members of these networks have very strong ties with the bootleggers in many cities with whom they deal to dispose of such huge consignments of seized/confiscated liquor and even narcotics.
This is another matter which the 24/7 overworked ( and probably under paid CJP Saquib) could well look into !
In yet another incident the police recently arrested one Shahzad Masih, brother of Zahid Chota who, reportedly, runs a bootlegger network in the city. There were reports that the police recovered and confiscated a huge quantity of liquor from the possession of Shahzad Masih. Name sounds like a converted Pakjabi christian, so some sort of "special treatment" should await him !
However, this particular group which, unfortunately include some journalists as well, intervened in the matter and settled the whole issue by striking Rs2.5 million deal with the police.
Inside info !
No matter what, the most painful revelation made in the course of investigations by this scribe remained the unfortunate and highly unethical involvement of some media persons in the whole racket. There are indications of involvement of some of our own colleagues who on one hand provide protection to the ‘liquor mafia’ in the twin cities and on the other they collaborate with the police to keep the things under a thick wrap of secrecy, simply by not reporting the facts.
Not surprising. Anything in Pakiland can be brought and sold at the right price. Journos are no "special angels" here . Just because the "name" Islamic appears before the name of Pakistan, does not make a nation Islamic . Saudi Arabia is a "good example" . What goes on behind the 4 walls of various palaces of the Royals is the stuff of gossip and hush hush whisper !!!
There is yet another interesting aspect explored in the whole business of confiscating and burning or destroying the liquor and contraband drugs. The government can earn hundreds of millions of rupees if not billions by simply selling the confiscated liquor, wine and beer!
And lose a "once in a lifetime opportunity " to mint money at the expense of the bankrupt state . Take care of yourself and your extended family first and to hell with the state
“Why we have to destroy all these items while there are more at least four distilleries producing and marking liquor and beer under license. We are also officially allowing import of these items for sale to the expats, diplomats or others based all over the country and the FBR (Federal Board of Revenue) officially issues permits to the foreigners, diplomats and others to purchase the imported liquor, wine and beer from designated outlets,” the sources said.
“So, instead of destroying the confiscated liquor, wine and beer thaHt should be made available for purchase by those privileged to purchase the ‘imported stuff’ and the money earned from this single source should be used to strengthen the departments engaged in fighting against smuggling of the illegal liquor into the country,” demanded one source.
Has "anyone" factored in the so -called outrage of the Mullah Brigade if this were to happen !!!. Might as well chop of the "Islamic" appendage attached to the "good name" of Pakistan

The "Biradari" Brotherhood Is Well And Alive In Pakiland

Electable, biradari, party politics in Punjab
July 2, 2018
The biradri is one of the basic units that is only weakened when there are other groups to take over from it the role of binding like-minded individuals and bunches of people together.
- The Cheemas and Chattas of Wazirabad . They can switch from PPP to PML in a jiffy !
- The Wattoos of Okara . Moving from PPP to PTI and vice versa !
- The Arains of Rahim Yar Khan
- The Rajas and Jats of Jhelum
- The Khokhars of La-Whore
- The Ansaris of Kasur

Russian author Anatol Leiven's book on Pakistan- A HARD COUNTRY discusses this biradari factor in detail . He concludes that this concept ( biradari) is one of the glues holding Pakiland together in spite of myriad problems !

Pakistan "Diplomacy" Is Just "Hot Air" According To This Expert On International Law :P

Shirking diplomatic responsibility
Sikander Ahmed Shah | Abid RizviJuly 02, 2018
ON May 17, 2018, in a weekly media briefing, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mohammad Faisal stated that “[t]he United States government has assured [the government of Pakistan] that a probe will be initiated against defence and air attaché Colonel Emanuel Joseph”, the US diplomat who ran a red light to ram into a motorcycle killing one Pakistani citizen and injuring two others. This was a remarkable statement given that there has been no official statement from the US government corroborating this position, no just outcome for the family of the victims, and no guarantee that the ‘probe’ the foreign affairs ministry was assured of would be conducted would even result in any form of accountability for Col Hall.
Like it or not, Paki so called concerns will not be looked into seriously by Washington or any other capital , until Pakistan "cleans up its own domestic acts at home" . !
A greater appreciation for international law would go a long way towards ensuring that such unfortunate incidents are not repeated. Further, the Foreign Office needs to do more to ensure the rights of Pakistani citizens — not only overseas but on Pakistani soil as well. Simply because Joseph enjoyed diplomatic immunity does not mean that Pakistan was entirely without options, albeit diplomatic as opposed to legal ones.Allowing US diplomats to run roughshod over the people of Pakistan does little to project Pakistani interests overseas, and rather leaves the Pakistani diplomatic corps seem quite toothless. A Foreign Office that is all too willing to cave in to foreign pressure, when Pakistani citizens have lost their lives to cavalier diplomatic personnel, is hardly a credible international representative of the people of Pakistan.

Dual- National Journo Speaks Out Against Her Recent Abduction !

Abducted Pakistani writer decries 'intimidation' ahead of polls
July 2, 2018
Reuters
ISLAMABAD (Reuters) - A Pakistani writer and activist says she fears for her life after being briefly abducted from a military cantonment in the city of Lahore on June 5, an incident that triggered national outrage and saw fingers pointed at the powerful armed forces.
Gul Bukhari, a harsh critic of the military and its alleged meddling in politics, said there was an atmosphere of “fear and intimidation” in the media and politics in the run-up to Pakistan’s July 25 general election.“I feel very insecure. I have restricted my son’s movement. I worry every time my husband or I go out,” Bukhari said, adding that she now often sends live updates on her whereabouts via WhatsApp to a friends and family group. The military has denied playing any role in Bukhari’s disappearance. “We have nothing to do with it,” said army spokesman Major General Asif Ghafoor days afterwards. He added that the incident should be investigated.
Someone in the "Deep State" goofed and did not do "due diligence" on the " target" ! They neglected to find that she was NOT a 100% halal Paki , and possesses a HM Govt "coveted Blue Passport " as well. Therefore , had to release her pronto, when the British authorities intervened !
Ghafoor’s office did not respond to Reuters’ requests for comment about accusations the army was stifling the media.
Reuters should not "rub salt" on the wound ! Ghafoor should be mentioned by his military honorific
Since Bukhari’s abduction there have been mounting complaints from media houses and journalists about being muzzled by threats of physical and financial retribution against those who cross “red lines” in reporting about the military. Bukhari declined to go into details of her ordeal, in which she was dragged from her car and hooded before assailants dropped her back at her house four hours later. But she told Reuters her abduction could be “viewed within that context” of intimidation ahead of this month’s election.
Bukhari does not want to push her luck too far and mention the military by name !
She said she has asked the police to offer her security but none has been provided. When contacted by Reuters, police had no immediate comment. After Bukhari’s disappearance, many blamed the military. A driver who was transporting her to a Waqt TV studio at the time told colleagues afterwards that men in army uniforms stood guard while others in plainclothes dragged her from the car.
Hope the burgeoning "Me Too Movement" of Pakiland takes "due note" of this incident as well
Bukhari, a dual Pakistani-British national, credits her release to swift coverage by international media outlets and a ferocious social media backlash inside Pakistan, which saw politicians and rights activists across the political spectrum voice their outrage about her disappearance on Twitter. She said her abduction had nonetheless sent a message that “nobody is untouchable, no one is immune” ahead of polls.
A day before Bukhari’s abduction, Major General Ghafoor told a news conference that the military was aware of those making or re-tweeting “anti-state” comments on social media. He then displayed a web-chart with names and pictures of many prominent journalists and TV personalities. Bukhari was not on the list.
"Chinese censorship system"- charts and all wholesale copied and applied to the Islamic environment of Pakiland
Other activists and media outlets say they feel targeted for criticising the military.
Dawn, the leading English-language newspaper which angered the army in May by publishing an interview with ousted Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, says its deliveries have since been blocked in what it calls a “wide-ranging and seemingly coordinated” assault on the publication and its finances.
Waqass Goraya, who alleges he was tortured when he and four other bloggers were abducted for several weeks last year, accused military intelligence agents of going to his family home and threatening his parents. “They are targeting my parents to deliver a message to me that I may be safe abroad but my family in Pakistan is not,” said Goraya, who fled Pakistan last year.
Pressuring parents and relatives and holding them "hostage" and asking them to "talk sense" to the errant journo, politoco or whatever, is a favourite tactic of the Paki Deep State. It was successfully applied (by Mush ) to Omar Saeed Sheikh, the absconding killer of Daniel Pearl !
The military did not comment on Goraya’s allegations or the disruption to Dawn’s distribution.Goraya and Bukhari, both active Twitter users, say they are also the targets of a co-ordinated trolling campaign on social media.
“The first thing I do in the morning, and sometimes last thing at night, is block and mute (on Twitter),” Bukhari said. “There is sexual abuse, threats of murder.”
The same tactics are also being used against Reham Khan in order to stop her from publishing her gossipy book about the Kaptaan !
Bukhari, who writes a column in the Nation newspaper, has frequently defended Sharif’s government and on social media championed a Pashtun-led rights movement that has staged nationwide rallies in protest at heavy-handed tactics in the army’s campaign against Islamist militants.Since her abduction, Bukhari has continued to tweet to her 80,500 followers about widespread allegations of military interference in politics.
“My voice has become a little different, but the content is the same,” she said.
The journo should be careful lest she be "expelled" !

Pakistan Escapes The FATF "Black List Gallows" But September 2019 Deadline Is Fast Approaching !

Pakistan placed on ‘grey list’ by FATF, could hurt its economy

The Financial Action Task Force (FATF) placed Pakistan on its watch list for not doing enough to counter terror financing during a meeting in Paris, officials said on Thursday. The listing was done late on Wednesday during a plenary meeting of the global financial watchdog. Pakistan’s caretaker finance minister Shamshad Akhtar is attending the meeting with a delegation.
Pakistan was included in FATF’s “grey list” after it submitted a 26-point action plan to cut off funding for terrorists and groups sanctioned by the UN Security Council, including Mumbai attacks mastermind Hafiz Saeed, the Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jamaat-ud-Dawah, Falah-e-Insaniyat Foundation, Jaish-e-Mohammed, Haqqani Network and Taliban. The FATF had earlier put Pakistan on its grey list between 2012 and 2015.
As the 37-member FATF began assessing Pakistan’s action plan that will be implemented over a period of 15 months beginning next January, the country’s delegation highlighted the steps taken by Islamabad to curb money laundering and terror financing.Though some reports suggested Pakistan had tried to avert its inclusion in the grey list, sources said a decision in this regard had already been taken during the FATF’s plenary meeting in February. The FATF had only been waiting for Pakistan’s action plan before going ahead with the listing.
So, "producing" an Action Plan, at least on paper, saved Pakistan from the dreaded Black List . Where it would have NOKO and Iran, both suspected "rogue nuclear nations " as company !
Following the decision at the February plenary meeting, Pakistan was asked to prepare an action plan to address the watchdog’s concerns. The plan was completed following negotiations between Pakistan and FATF members, and Islamabad will work “towards effective implementation of the action plan while staying in the grey list”, an official said.
Catch 22 situation IMO . Implementation of the plan would help Pakiland "stay" on the semi-dreaded Grey List. Non - implementation would resulted in being "up graded" to the deadly Black List
Islamabad will have to deliver on the first goal under the action plan by next January and complete all 26 actions by September 2019.
PS: Paki media has blamed India for it being on the FATF Grey List !!!

Water level in Pakistan's dams hits lowest mark in history

The collective water storage capacity in the dams around the country has hit its lowest mark, as reported by Geo News.

The media report citing officials of the Indus River System Authority claimed that the dams in Pakistan have been encountering severe water insufficiency as a result of a deficit in rains this year.

As per the representative, the combined capacity equals to 900,000 acre-feet including two of the biggest dams in the country -Tarbela that has a capacity of 128,000 acre-feet and Mangla with 718,000 amplitude.

It was also revealed that the Chashma Barrage withholds a mere capacity of 44,000 acre-feet.

With an extreme wave of water scarcity that is gradually enveloping the nation, Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar has taken pressing action to settle the impending crisis by heading a meeting of concerned experts in which it was concluded that construction of two dams is to begin on immediate notice.

From what I've read, delusion and jihad seem to be a most potent brew of which our de-evolving neighbours seem to have take deep draughts.

Then they rue their folly yet again-beyond contempt, really.

Can the country afford seven children per family, asks CJP

Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar on Tuesday expressed surprise over a debate regarding family planning and its connection to religion, wondering "what the nation had gotten itself into".

Is the country capable of supporting seven children per family, he asked. "The rate at which the population is growing in the country is [no less than] a bomb."

Also read: Exploding population bomb

A three-member Supreme Court (SC) bench, headed by the CJP and comprising Justice Umar Ata Bandial and Justice Ijazul Ahsan, was hearing a suo motu case pertaining to increasing population in the country.

Commenting on Justice Nisar's remark about whether birth control is allowed in religion or not, Justice Bandial said that "there are relevant verses in the Holy Quran regarding [there being a] gap between children".

During today's hearing, the health secretary told the court that the government did not have a monitoring system in place to regulate health centres or keep records of the growth in the country's population.

He said that in Indonesia — the country with the largest Muslim population in the world — authorities held an awareness campaign in mosques to educate the population about the importance of population control.

The representative from Punjab Population Welfare Department (PWD), however, argued that during the 1970-80s, the growth rate of population was 3.7 per cent, whereas now it had fallen to 2.4 per cent. He added that the government "cannot stop anyone from having kids".

The CJP said that 2,100 welfare centres in Punjab had "zero performance" and plans were only on paper.

When asked about the budget allocated to the welfare centres, the Punjab deputy secretary responded that in addition to the Rs3.6 billion that is provided by the Public Sector Development Programme, the department receives around Rs1.5 billion annually.

The CJP demanded representatives from the Population Welfare Department to tell the court about the policies formed by the government to control population growth and criticised them for "receiving salaries for doing nothing".

He said that the country does not have the resources to feed so many people and added that a single policy must be implemented throughout Pakistan.

Expressing concern over the ballooning population, Justice Nisar said that the authorities need to take immediate action to control the situation. He ordered all stakeholders of the case to submit recommendations to the court and adjourned the hearing for a while.

According to last year's census provisional results, Pakistan has a population of 207.8 million — a 57 per cent increase since the last census in 1998.

The latest population census has shown that Pakistan has moved up the ladder becoming the fifth most populous nation only behind India, China, the United States and Indonesia.

Comment : With Terroristan having 33 Million Families an average Family having Seven Children plus One Abbu and One Ammi the Population would be approaching - if not already crossed - the 300 Million Mark!

Water shortage intensifies, crops at risk

ISLAMABAD: The country’s water shortage has worsened, prompting Indus River System Authority (Irsa) to cut provincial water shares by 14 per cent as storages at the two major reservoirs — Mangla and Tarbela —dropped to historic lows.

“Total storage stood at 0.89 million acre feet (MAF) compared to storage of 6.81 MAF the same day last year,” said Khalid Idrees Rana, spokesman to the Indus River System Authority. Pakistan total storage capacity is 13.681 MAF

“Tarbela (dam) is at very alarming stage”, he said explaining that its storage stood at 0.128 MAF on Monday – almost half compared to a historic low of 0.254 MAF.

The situation at Mangla — the country’s largest reservoir by capacity — was no better. “Mangla is also at very critical stage today,” he said, adding the storage at this dam was recorded at 0.718 MAF on Monday compared to historically low level of 0.914 MAF.

Storage around one tenth of what it was last year

Total river flows also dropped to 259,000 cusec on Monday compared to 396,000 cusec recorded on the same day last year.

In view of the grim evolving situation, the cut to provincial shares was increased to 14pc from 9pc on June 25 when total storage stood at 1.63 MAF.

The provincial shares were further cut owing to reduced flows in rivers after temperatures in the catchment areas of Skardu fell to an unprecedented 18-19 degree Celsius.

As a result, Punjab is currently being provided 109,000 cusec while Sindh share was set at 145,000 cusec. The share of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was set at 14,000 cusec and 3,100 cusec respectively.

River Chenab that had seen upsurge in flows after recent heavy rains in Jammu also witnessed flows dropping to 72,600 cusec on Monday after attaining a peak of 109,000 cusec.

Inflows in river Indus were recorded at 108,600 cusecs on Monday against outflows of 141,200 cusecs while Kabul flows at Nowshera were reported at 47,000 cusecs. Inflows in Jhelum at Mangla were recorded at 30,600 cusecs against outflows of 11,700 cusecs.
