Isloo High Court Judge Siddiqui Goes Rogue

Missing persons case: IHC judge urges army chief to rein in secret agencies’ officials
SLAMABAD – Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui of the Islamabad High Court expressed his displeasure over the alleged interference of secret agencies in the state affairs, saying they should focus on the country’s defense.
Until very recently, this Anti- Ahmedi Judge was a well known supporter of the Deep State. He has recently fallen out of favor with CJP Saquib, and is being "investigated" by his peers. And hence the angst, at least IMO !
Hearing the case of missing persons, the high court judge appealed to Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa for “barring his persons from intervention in the matters of other institutions,” adding that the army chief should take notice of the alarming situation, reported an Urdu website.
He claimed “Judges’ lives are in danger as their telephones are being tapped by the officials of the security agencies”.
His included
Addressing a representative of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), who appeared in the court, Justice Siddiqui said: “Your personnel try to form a court bench of their own wish and the army chief should be aware of the misdeeds committed by them”.
Siddiqui is skating on thin ice here
“Enforced disappearance of citizens, businessmen, and other influential persons has become a routine in the capital city”, he said in the written orders.
His days as a judge of the Isloo High Court are probably numbered. He might be transferred to a mofussil town like Chakwal or Lala Musa , where he wont be bad mouthing the COAS
Saying the secret agencies should not cross the constitutional limits, the IHC judge ordered that interference in affairs of the judiciary, executives and other departments should be restrained.
He will be dealt with, once the urgent matter of the election is over !
A concept of state within the state should be eliminated, he said, besides warning that such situation would be disastrous for both army and state
He ordered to send the copy of court ruling to the army chief, ISI director general, secretary defense and Secretary interior.A recovered person Rab Nawaz, during the hearing, told the court that he was taken by unknown persons after being blindfolded.
Justice Siddiqui remarked that police officials are helpless in front of the security agencies. Expressing resentment over Islamabad’s SSP Investigation Zubair Sheikh, he said that a officer who has no courage to speak the truth should not be part of police.
The Deep State is probably unfazed by these criticisms by its one -time protege. This is a country, which has already hanged one PM, had a hand in the assassination of the PM daughter ( Benazir) , has put another Ex PM in jail on the spurious charges of "corruption" . So, he is "small fry" as far as they are concerned !

Damage Control By PTI Party

Founder of group banned by UN denies joining Imran Khan's party
Chief of Ansarul ul Ummah and founder of Harkatul Mujahideen, a group banned by the United Nations , has not joined the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf , said party candidate Assad Umar after he was criticized on the social media.
According to an English daily, Umar said Facebook post on his official page announcing that the cleric has joined the PTI was ‘incorrect’ and a ‘mistake’ by his team.
IMO, it sounds like an exercise in damage control. This "guy" is on the "US Terror List". Imran Khan's Party (PTI) is most likely to form the next Paki Govt. And Asad Umar, the party person, who was courting the terrorist , is tipped off to be the next Finance Minister of Pakistan. And if media reports are to be believed , Pakiland would have no choice but to "beg" , Massa dominated IMF for a bail-out package . And Pakistan's case will be pleaded by no other person than Finance Minister Asad Umar ! So the optics did not look good in this announcement. So a retraction was in order.
“We had a meeting which was attended by ulema of other sects,” he was quoted as saying by the paper. The cleric has also denied reports that he has joined the PTI. He, however confirmed that he would support the PTI leader.
“We have only extended support to Asar Umar in NA-54 because we respect him and w e will try to help him,” he told the newspaper. :D

Another Sindhi Wadhera/ Feudal Joins Imran Khan's PTI Party

Ex-PM’s daughter, Senator Amjal Wazir join PTI
ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister Muhammad Khan Junejo’s daughter Fiza Junejo have joined Pakistan Tehreeek-Insaf (PTI) after meeting Imran Khan in Islamabad.According to a statement issued by the PTI's Media Department, Senator Ajmal Wazir also met the PTI chief and joined his party.
Muhammad Khan Junejo had served as the 10th Prime Minister of Pakistan from 1985 to 1988 during Zia ul Haq's military regime.
Maybe, (Fiza Junejo) may be able to deliver the biradari votes to the PTI candidate in her area ! Many Paki feudals have seen the political writing on the wall and have switched sides from the PML (Nawaz) Party and the PPP Party to the Kaptaan's Party !

Paki Female Journo Who Interviewed Ganja Sharif Is Now Being Smeared And Demonized .

HerJournalism: United 'She' stand; Divided 'She' fall
July 17, 2018
Dunya News
(WebDesk) - Online tormentors often left no stone unturned to malign and deride journalist who disagrees or refuses to take dictation and/or stand by to their story firmly, avoiding pressure to step back, particularly the female journalist.
The name calling is a usual practice. They libel her with some explicitly disgraceful tags and labels like the dirty whore, sucking parasite, an idiot, a lobbyist, a foreign agent, ugly liar, paid stooge and many more. Not only this, It has been observed that as a very routine business, female journalists are threatened with rape, gang rape, sexual torture, physical torture in hideous detail.
Ahead of general elections 2018 in Pakistan, such malpractices from fake accounts have become a daily torture for journalists across the board. The reporting of the facts and figures and coverage of an event unfavourable to the opponent political party’ side fall the journalist to become a prey of online victimization and deriding.
The Pakistani journalist fraternity particularly the female journalists who are also hosting the current affair shows, firmly stood with the well-known reporter and TV anchor person Asma Shirazi after the online bullies and trolls beleaguered and harassed her over the false denunciations and fabricated allegations.
Since the Nawaz-Maryam arrival night, the well-known anchor person and a highly credible female journalist Ms. Asma Shirazi, has been a target of the trolls for her routine coverage of former Premier and PMLN Supremo Nawaz Sharif and daughter Maryam Nawaz’s return to Pakistan to surrender to the NAB after the accountability court has convicted them in the Avenfield Reference Case.
The much profiled and hyped event grabbed full media attention across the globe. Local as well as international media was also travelling with the father daughter duo to cover the historic arrival ahead of inevitable detention. Next day once the whirl of the Nawaz-Maryam Arrival and then arrest rested, certain selected video bites of the conversation between Sharif and Shirazi have started to circulate on whatsapp, facebook and twitter as the leaked secretive telephonic conversation between the sentenced PMLN supremo and the veteran journalist and anchor person, Asma Shirazi.
Shirazi along with other national and international reporters was also a part of the group of journalists, that were present at Abu Dhabi Airport. The ousted Prime Minister and the supreme leader of the PMLN, at Abu Dhabi airport talked to the journalists in a telephonic presser.
In those carefully edited video clips, Sharif can be seen and heard in a telephonic conversation with Shirazi, apparently complaining about his exclusive interview given to her only, did not go air and she can be heard, allegedly explaining Nawaz Sharif, about the impediments hindered to air the interview. These clips wreaked a havoc to her. She was derided by the cyber bullies for allegedly being a paid stooge of Sharifs.
She uttered all those words in the presence of all the journalists who have also spoken with Sharif as it was the telephonic conversation. It was all a blatant conversation, never a secret call to be claimed as a leaked audio conversation between the convicted Prime Minister and the journalist to appease him or to serve him.The fellow journalist and the famous Dunya News TV anchor person, Wajahat Hussain, who was travelling with her and other journalists to cover the same event, was the first one who came forward in favour of Asma Shirazi.
Along with the leaked call drama, other false proclamations are being made to slander the journalist. She is terribly being ridiculed for allegedly crying over the Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz imminent arrest.
The global support network for women, The coalition of women in Journalism has issued a statement on Sunday in the woke of threat and harassment campaign being fuelled up against the veteran and credible female Pakistani journalist like Asma Shirazi ahead of general elections 2018.“We have observed that majority of these trolls are supporters of political parties and political leaders. To target journalists for doing their job during an election campaign is an obstruction to public access to information at a critical time in the democratic process. No journalist should have to face harassment for doing their job. We encourage all stakeholders to join efforts to make reporting a safe endeavour for women journalists’’, the statement said.
If Ganja was in power, the interview would have been OK. Now, that he is not in the good books of the (bad) Deep State, the interview is NOT OK

Senior Judge Siddiqui Speaks Out Against Deep State !

Army's top command should rein in spy agencies: Islamabad High Court judge
Islamabad High Court (IHC) Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui on Wednesday criticised the alleged interference of the country's intelligence agencies in the affairs of the judiciary, media and the executive, warning that such an intrusion may eventually lead to a "big loss". Justice Siddiqui, who is the senior puisne judge of the IHC, made the observations while wrapping up a case concerning two missing brothers who were allegedly disappeared by a spy agency.
The judge is currently facing a trial in a reference on misconduct moved in the Supreme Judicial Council on the complaint by a retired employee of the Capital Development Authority for alleged refurbishment of official residence beyond entitlement.
Justice Siddiqui also made headlines last year when he criticised the armed forces for their role as the "mediator" in the agreement that led to an end of the sit-in by religious groups at Islamabad's Faizabad Interchange in November.
At the same time, this "well -known bearded "has been an utter nightmare for the besieged Ahmedis , as he has almost marginalized them by his various judgements against them . So, the Ahmedis may breathe a sigh of relief now
"Who is the army to adopt a mediator's role?" the judge had questioned at the time. "Where does the law assign this role to a major general?" In the order sheet issued after today's hearing, Justice Siddiqui not only censured Islamabad police for their failure to protect citizens from enforced disappearances, but also criticised intelligence agencies, especially Inter-Services Intelligence, for allegedly exceeding their sanctioned mandate.
A case against him is already being heard by his own fellow peers. It is likely that he will now be removed from his post, or be transferred to a backwater post as some sort of a punishment !
The judge observed that “police is in league with the mighty agencies, who have disrupted the civic fiber of the posting.php?mode=reply&f=1&t=7646#country by establishing [a] state over the State of Pakistan”, and warned that this is leading to what he termed a “disastrous situation”.
Echoing the same sentiment as Ganja Sharif  ( a state over the State of Pakistan )
“I must observe that persons [at] the helm of affairs of all the institutions need to protect [their] hard-earned independence and take remedial steps to stop the invasion by [the] personnel of [a] particular institution and intelligence agencies,” the court order noted.
Accusing the spy agencies of interfering in the affairs of the third pillar of the state, Justice Siddiqui wrote: “Everyone knows [...] how proceedings are manipulated, from where strings are pulled and when power [is] wielded and maneuver[ed] to achieve the desired results.”
“It is [a] matter of great concern that even benches are constituted and cases are marked to different benches on the direction of such elements,” he added.
Justice Siddiqui's remarks came after he, despite being a senior puisne judge, was not included in a division bench formed to hear appeals filed by ex-prime minister Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz and retired Captain Mohammad Safdar against their conviction in the Avenfield properties reference.Instead, the division bench was formed comprising two junior judges. The bench has since taken up the appeals and adjourned proceedings till after the July 25 general elections.
If anyone still thinks that Nawaz is going to get a "fair hearing" in his case, he is living in a fool's paradise
The order sheet today read, “It is time to save the institution of the judiciary from all kind of influences, otherwise we may not be able to answer [to] Allah Almighty.” “To remain like a silent spectator is against the oath made by every judge, provided by the Constitution. In case of our failure, the Pakistani nation and history will not remember the judges with good names [sic],” it added.
Justice Siddiqui directed court officials to forward a copy of the order to the defence and interior secretaries as well as to the chief of army staff and the ISI director general.Earlier, Islamabad police had produced Rabnawaz, a man who was allegedly picked up by unknown persons, before Justice Siddiqui.
The abductee had told the court that “he went to Vehari on his own.” However, his brother, Iftikhar Raja, had stated that Rabnawaz was perjuring himself and that he had in fact been abducted by spy agencies and subjected to physical and mental torture.Raja said it was in his knowledge that his brother had been harassed and threatened with dire consequences in order to prevent him from recording any statement contrary to what has been dictated by his abductors.
In the order sheet, Justice Siddiqui noted that “it is expected from the top echelon of [the] army that by appreciating the delicacy, sensitivity and alarming [nature of the] situation, some remedial steps to stop their agencies from interfering into the affairs of other departments and to refrain [them] from assuming the role not assigned by [the] law shall be taken."If the measures are not taken, the judge concluded, "these practices shall ruffle the people of Pakistan, which by no stretch of imagination is good for the prestigious institution of the Pakistan Army as well as the Islamic Republic of Pakistan."
Not sure, why the "Honorable" "Justice" Of The Isloo High Court had a sudden change of heart and has now turned on his previous benefactors . Or alternatively why the Deep State now views him as an "enemy of the state". At least, it lays bare the kind of justice practiced in Pakiland

Despite heavy inflow from China, FDI fails to pick up in FY18

KARACHI: Foreign direct investment (FDI) increased by a meagre 0.8% to $2.76 billion in the fiscal year ended June 30, 2018, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) reported on Tuesday.

In fiscal 2016-17, FDI stood at $2.74 billion, increasing a meagre $20.8 million, or 0.8%, in FY18.

China remained the single largest foreign investor with its share standing at more than half in the total amount Pakistan received during the year. FDI would have been much worse if it had not made heavy investments under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Accordingly, the power and construction sectors attracted more than half the total investment, which comes to slightly higher than what China invested in the two sectors.

The insignificant growth in investment is attributed to rising political noise as Pakistan braces for general elections, as the nation is all set to cast its vote to elect the new government on July 25, an official of the Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OICCI) said the other day.

Image

He anticipated improvement in FDI after the next government comes into power; sometime in August. “We expect improvement in FDI from October onwards. By that time, the next government would have formed its [economic] team and announced policies to address issues,” OICCI Secretary Abdul Aleem said.

“Foreigners are just sending investment for their ongoing projects at present. The country would see enhanced investment with initiative of some new foreign projects from October,” he added.

Pakistan poses huge potential to attract foreign investment keeping in view the size of its growing middle-income group. However, messages to world investors are usually demotivated. “Pakistan has remained high on foreign investors’ radar,” he added. Really?

Country-wise FDI

China invested a net $1.58 billion in FY18, followed by United Kingdom that injected a net $278.7 million in the year. Hong Kong stood as the third largest investor with a net FDI of $140.8 million.

Among other notable investors were Malaysia ($127.7 million) and Switzerland ($88.1 million) in the year. Kuwait divested a net $79.6 million. Canada, Norway, Oman, Qatar, and South Africa divested in the range of $1.7 million to $11.1 million in the year.

Sector-wise FDI

The country’s power production sector attracted the single largest investment (net) of $885.3 million, followed by construction, which attracted $707.3 million in FY18.

Among others were financial business ($276 million), oil and gas explorations sector ($194.8 million) and food sector ($105.7 million) during the year.

Outflow of foreign investment at the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) slowed down during the year, as they sold shares worth $240.7 million compared to $512.87 million in the prior fiscal year 2017.

Cumulative foreign investment, including public and private, doubled to $4.97 billion in the year compared to $2.49 billion in the previous fiscal year 2017. The growth in the investment is largely driven by accumulation of new debt worth $2.45 billion through sale of Euro bonds and Sukuk (Islamic bond) during the year.

Mainstreaming The Islamic Radicals Through The "Election Process"

Mainstreaming radicals: Pakistan army puts terrorist-friendly candidates within grasp of power
Washington Times-By Naila Inayat
July 17, 2018
Pakistani voters are lining up behind terrorist-supported candidates ahead of next week’s parliamentary elections, underscoring how far radical forces have moved toward the center of power in the South Asian nation in recent years. While predictions are widespread over how many extremist-friendly candidates will win seats, several ultra-right religious groups have fielded contenders for the July 25 vote for the National Assembly, which will in turn elect Pakistan’s next prime minister.Roughly 200 candidates are from parties that previously were considered to be too far on the fringe of Pakistani politics to stand a chance of entering the assembly.
The leader of the biggest party, Tehreek-e-Labbaik, is firebrand cleric Khadim Hussain Rizvi, who has led an aggressive campaign garnering the most attention among far-right groups. “If I’m given the atom bomb, I would wipe Holland off from the face of the earth before they can hold a competition of caricatures,” Mr. Rizvi recently told journalists at the Karachi Press Club, referring to a Dutch competition of cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammad.
This new competitor to Hafiz ( Suar ) Saeed has not not yet come under the US or UN Radar of "dangerous terrrorist". His Tehreek-e-Labbaik did get some logistic and financial help ( A Major General of the Paki fauj was caught on camera disbursing cash to members of this Party ) from the Deep State !

Violent Extremist or Political Candidate? In Pakistan Election, You Can Be Both
By Maria Abi-Habib, Shah Meer Baloch and Zia ur-Rehman
New York Times
July 17, 2018
KARACHI, Pakistan — Aurangzeb Farooqi is a leader of a political party that is banned in Pakistan for espousing sectarian violence. He faces charges of spreading religious hatred that was linked to the murders of several Shiite activists. He is also a candidate for national political office, running with the blessing of Pakistani courts.
And there are others of his ilk as well !
Mr. Farooqi is among several candidates with ties to Islamist extremist groups who were the subject of last-ditch petitions by activists seeking to bar them from contesting elections this month. An election tribunal threw out those petitions last month, claiming there were not enough valid complaints to justify barring the candidates.
There is a deliberate decision by the Deep State to mainstream such candidates !
Despite publicly proclaimed campaigns against religious extremism, the ability of candidates like Mr. Farooqi to campaign suggests that far from being curbed, extremists are being encouraged.
This month, a new party called Tehreek-e-Labbaik was approved to run on a platform of punishing those who blaspheme Islam, an issue that has been abused to terrorize the country’s minorities. In this case, the "minorities" are Ahmedis , whom these extremists and the Paki Constitution consider "non-muslims" !
Omar Shahid Hamid, the senior police superintendent for Karachi’s southern district, used to conduct regular check-ins with Mr. Farooqi as a member of the police counterterrorism unit. He said he was surprised that Mr. Farooqi’s nomination papers were not rejected, but not that he was running.
“Farooqi has always had an interest in electoral politics and a desire to get mainstreamed, to be accepted as a political force and get rid of his baggage as a militant,” Mr. Hamid said. “They see this as the future, the only way forward with the establishment.”
In Pakistan, “the establishment” is code for the military, which is accused by both Pakistan’s former government and the international community of supporting extremist groups to achieve its defense and foreign policy objectives.
The military in recent years has discussed plans to “mainstream” extremists, allowing them to shed their violent pasts and become politicians, according to cabinet members of the previous government who were involved in those discussions. It is a plan opposed by the incumbent government and activists across the country.
Noticeably absent from the list of eligible election candidates are several from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz. The PML-N formed the previous government and saw its prime minister, Nawaz Sharif, ousted by the Supreme Court last July for failing to disclose assets abroad in his 2013 election application.
The Establishment does not want to see Nawaz's PML Party heading the Govt again !!!

After Clean Bowling Ganja Sharif, Imran Now Wants Shehbaz' s Wicket !

Shehbaz Sharif doesn’t know his future, Adiala Jail awaits him: Imran
July 18, 2018
NATHIAGALI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan on Wednesday said that Shehbaz Sharif does not know his future, and he will eventually like his brother Nawaz Sharif would have to go to Adiala Jail.
Shahbaz has not been disqualified and he is contesting the elections !
He said accused the caretaker chief minister Khyber Pakhtunkwa Dost Muhammad of bias and impartiality, claiming that he has links with Akram Durrani and the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman. “I want to give message to the interim chief minister to remain a neutral umpire. Caretaker chief minister Dost Muhammad is known to have relations with Akram Durrani and Maulana Fazlur Rehman,” he said.
On the other hand, Immy is the preferred candidate of the Deep State . So, one partiality cancels out the other
He said that Nathiagali was blessed with natural beauty and they would develop the tourism sector in the area. “Nathiagali is more beautiful than Switzerland. We will develop the tourism sector,” he said.
Unless there is complete and permanent peace with India, and Pakistan becomes a tolerant and liberal society, ( there are nil chances of both !) Pakistan should say goodbye to international as well as national tourism
He said they would establish colleges to impart tourism training and youth would also receive employment as well, and they would also build at least four tourist resorts in the area. In an election season, politicians are known to promise everything under the sun ( He has already promised an Islamic Welfare State [whatever that means !])
He said that industries are built in large cities rather than hilly areas like the Galyat, and they would develop tourism in the area. He also expressed satisfaction over the performance of the previous KP government.
Blowing his own horn !!

Paki Robbers Arrested In Saudia !

Two Pakistanis among seven robbers arrested in Saudi Arabia
RIYADH – Police in the Saudi Arabia have busted a seven-member gang of three Saudis, two Pakistanis, one Syrian and one Sudanese who committed 124 robberies and thefts in the Islamic Kingdom. A police spokesman said the gang stole car and used them in carrying out their thefts which included commercial centers and shops as well as building materials from construction sites in Riyadh. The police also seized captagon pills and 2.5 kg of hashish with the gang members, the Riyadh Daily reported on Tuesday. While announcing the arrest, the Riyadh police confirmed the Ministry of interior keenness to maintain the safety of Saudis and expatriates and to deal firmly and decisively with anyone who compromises with the security and safety of the community.
Then the Pakis wonder, why Saudi Arabia does not go easy on giving visas to the Islamic World's First Atomi Takat

You know DAWN has been under a lot of pressure lately. It started with those two leaks, one on ISI intervening and releasing terrorists caught by the Punjab Police and the second, of course, on the design(s) of (China through) CPEC. This report could well have been forced down its throats by the 'Angels'.

Once upon a time in 1990 Ganja, when he was the blue-eyed boy of the establishment was the beneficiary of the largesse of the establishment who doled out money and honey to help Ganja and his Islaami jamhoori Ittehaad, see off Pinky Bhutto and family. Nearly three decades later Ganja is at the receiving end, having being replaced by a newer-old model.

Down the line the newer-old model will be replaced by another and the cycle will continue.

Hameed Haroon Of DAWN applies Pressure On Deep State Via BBC Interview.

Pakistan election: BBC interview with Dawn newspaper boss stirs controversy
19 July 2018
A BBC interview with the boss of Pakistan's leading English-language newspaper has stirred controversy a week before national elections.
Hameed Haroon, CEO of the Dawn Media Group, accused the security establishment of interfering in politics, including in favour of former cricketer Imran Khan and his PTI party.
But the HARDtalk interview prompted claims that Mr Haroon and his newspaper were biased in favour of ex-PM and rival to Mr Khan, Nawaz Sharif. Others criticised his lack of evidence against the military.Dawn is among newspapers that have faced censorship and intimidation ahead of the 25 July vote.
He wrote an opinion piece in the Washington Post just recently, on similar lines. The (Abdullah) Haroon family was in the forefront of the so-called Pakistan Movement, and Hameed's late brother Yusuf Haroon, was rumoured to be a well known CIA asset ( Agent of Influence). His younger brother Abdullah Haroon is current Foreign Minister in the caretaker Govt . So, the family still has lots of "influence" !
In the interview broadcast on Monday, Mr Haroon, who is also president of the All Pakistan Newspapers Society, accused the powerful military of an "unprecedented assault" on the freedom of the press. He told HARDtalk host Stephen Sackur that the "deep state" appeared to be working in favour of its preferred candidates - a charge that has been widely echoed by other political observers ahead of the polls.
. Whether this kind of "bad publicity" against Deep State is going to make a difference is anybody's guess .
The army has frequently intervened in Pakistani politics since independence in 1947, and the country has alternated between periods of civilian and military rule. It denies any involvement in next week's election."I think that at this point, there appears to be an attempt to favour second-level string leaders and a patch-up coalition which would rule with direction from the deep state," Mr Haroon said.
That is the informed opinion of others as well !
When asked if he meant Imran Khan and his PTI party, he said: "There are times that Imran's index goes up with the security state and at times other people in his party are named."
When pressed on what evidence he had, Mr Haroon responded: "I think that evidence today in Pakistan must to a certain extent be looked at through inference, through the work of human rights organisations, through the works of political commentators."I'm not actually making a case against the state, I'm making a case for the state to conciliate itself with the media, and try to keep the normal institutions of democracy going."
Not easy to find evidence of military meddling, Analysis by M Ilyas Khan in Islamabad
It's rare for civilians to stand up to the military, which in recent years has extended its influence to nearly all state institutions. Critics say it can turn revenue taps on and off for media houses and other businesses at will. They say this happens without any public statement or record, so if one is looking for irrefutable proof of military meddling, they would be disappointed.
That is why, it is easy for ISPR Ghafoor to deny these accusations with a straight face :D
But what do you do when an anonymous caller introducing himself as an ISI colonel or brigadier tells a cable service operator to move a channel from number 2 on its channel list to, say, number 15, and the bidding is done despite the media regulator denying having issued such a directive?
DawnNews channel has recently been moved by Islamabad's main cable network, Nayatel, from channel number 9 to number 28. Initially I thought it had been blocked. I found it at its new position several days later. An ordinary viewer would not have bothered looking for it once it was lost. This means the channel loses viewership, and ultimately advertising revenue.
After years of "solid experience" in these matters, this is easy for ISI !
Although Dawn has fewer resources than some of Pakistan's other media groups, it has stood up to the military and continues to refuse to compromise its editorial policy.
But ISI has played havoc with its distribution !
Press freedom advocates and many journalists will argue that Hamid Haroon said what he had to say and if anyone is looking for proof in black and white, they should try to run a media house in Pakistan.
The concept of "plausible deniability" :D

Ganja Being Harassed In Adiala

Meeting with Sharifs cancelled by Adiala Jail authorities, says Nawaz's lawyer
July 19, 2018
Adiala Jail administration on Thursday cancelled a meeting between incarcerated former premier Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz, and son-in-law retired Capt Muhammad Safdar, and their legal team. The legal team was trying to meet the Sharif family detained at Adiala Jail following their conviction in the Avenfield properties reference. On Wednesday, lead defence counsel Khawaja Haris told the accountability judge that jail authorities were not giving him access to his client, Nawaz Sharif.
After court proceedings, as per the legal team of Sharif family, the jail superintendent called Haris and permitted the legal team to meet with its clients. The jail authorities then, with the consent of the lawyers, fixed their meeting for 11am on Thursday.
The legal team moved from Serena Hotel at 9am and, as they reached Adiala Jail at 11am, were informed by the jail superintendent that the meeting had been cancelled. Subsequently, they returned without meeting their clients.
Petty harassment like this is not uncommon in Pakiland !
Speaking to Dawn, Haris said that the "legal team comprising Amjad Pervaiz, Barrister Saad Hashmi, and Zafir Khan had been requesting jail authorities since the day before to allow us to meet our clients in jail so that we can confer with them regarding their future strategy."
"We requested the jail authorities to allow us to meet yesterday (Wednesday) but we were not allowed [to meet them]," he said, adding, "Eventually we were asked to come today at 11am to meet Mian Sahib etc. at Adiala Jail. While we were on our way and had almost reached, we received a call from the jail superintendent and were asked not to come today as our meeting had been unilaterally cancelled."According to Haris, an Adiala Jail assistant superintendent had explained that the lawyers' meeting had been cancelled since Thursday is for visiting family members and others.
He claimed that the jail administration had asked them to suggest a date for another meeting, but were not giving them any assurance that the same would not happen with their next meeting. He added that it was not possible for professional lawyers to work freely and independently if the behaviour of jail authorities continued to be humiliating.
Jail officials did not attend repeated telephone calls when contacted by Dawn for a comment on the matter.
It is a joke when Paki authorities proclaim that elections are going to be fair and free !

After Engineered Elections, It Is Engineered Slogan Mongering Against Ganja Sharif .

Nawaz’s movement limited after inmates chant slogans against him
RAWALPINDI: Adiala jail authorities have limited the movement of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif after some prisoners started chanting slogans against him as he was out for a stroll in the courtyard of his barrack early in the morning. Sharif will now also not be allowed to pray in the mosque.
According to sources, the jail authorities are considering moving Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz to Safwat Lodge, commonly referred to as Sihala Rest House, located on the premises of Sihala Police College.“A bomb disposal squad visited Sihala Police College Wednesday night to comb the premises to ensure there are no explosives in case the former premier and his daughter are moved to Sihala,” a senior security official said.
To say that the slogan chanting was spontaneous , would be a joke, IMO !
He said it may be unsafe for the three-time prime minister to remain in the jail due to the presence of high profile prisoners convicted in terrorism cases, even though security for him and his daughter has been beefed up.
To lump an ex PM, with common criminals and terrorists , speaks much about so-called Paki justice .
A senior police official said security outside Adiala jail has also been tightened due to the large number of people coming to meet their loved ones in jail and the gathering of PML-N workers and leaders attempting to meet Sharif and Maryam.
Safwat Lodge has been cleaned and decorated with flowers, paintings and photographs. A double bed, two chairs and a table will also be provided to the prisoners.
It is a far cry from the luxurious private residence that Ganja is used to , but at least he will be minimally harassed in his new surroundings !
This is the same lodge where former president and PPP co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari had been detained when his party’s government was dismissed in 1996. Other political leaders have also been detained in the rest house in the past.
On July 13, the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration had already declared the rest house a sub-jail for detaining the Sharifs who were arrested by the National Accountability Bureau when they reached Lahore. However, they were taken to Adiala jail instead.
After the notification was issued by the ICT administration and the commandant of Police College Sihala was contacted to seek charge of the rest house on Friday, the rest house was cleaned and prepared for the former prime minister.

Imran unhappy with poll news

NATHIAGALI/JHELUM/LAHORE: PTI Chairman Imran Khan said on Wednesday he was not getting good news regarding the July 25 elections, but added that people should get out of their homes to vote on the polling day, reported Geo News.

Imran accused Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Caretaker Chief Minister Dost Muhammad of siding with JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rahman and Akram Durrani, asking him to remain impartial and play the role assigned to him.

He hoped that Dost Muhammad would improve his role, but warned his party would be raising voice if he remained biased. Addressing a rally in Nathiagali as part of his election campaign, he said Shahbaz Sharif too would have to go to Adiala Jail just like Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz.

Imran alleged that the PML-N leader had registered ‘32 fake cases against him’. He said the condition of Galiyat had immensely changed over time. “The people of Galiyat should tell whether their lives changed or not during the past five years,” said Imran.

He said after coming into power, his party would make four new tourist spots every year. The PTI chief said during his tenure in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the party worked to depoliticise the police.

Also on Wednesday, Imran claimed that the country’s debt had soared to Rs 27,000 billion during the last 10 years. Addressing a public gathering in Jhelum, he said the corruption of PPP and PML-N had left the country under huge debt and the people were facing the burden in the shape of inflation.

He promised to eradicate corruption from the country and increase income after coming to power. Imran said the children of Nawaz Sharif and Ishaq Dar had become billionaires but the nation suffered. “We will create favorable conditions for investors and taxes will be reduced,” the PTI chairman said.

Imran also accused former president Asif Ali Zardari of killing people in Sindh and Shahbaz of the deaths in Model Town. People needed to get rid of Nawaz and Asif Ali Zardari, he added. Later in the evening, Imran told a gathering in Lahore’s Shahdara area that the nation should avoid waiting for leaders who had no stake in Pakistan.

He said Nawaz, who always claimed to break the begging bowl, had even further burdened the country with foreignloans. He added that due to the wrong policies of the PML-N government, the Pakistani rupee was devalued. Imran said he considered Quaid-e-Azam as the greatest leader in the history, as he devoted his life for a cause and never gave importance to personal interests. He said the nation's founder died of “cancer” but he never informed anyone about the disease because he was committed to a greater cause of serving the nation.

Imran also said that Nelson Mandela was also a great leader in the history who spent years in jail for his nation and after coming out of it, he pardoned his rivals. He said the PML-N and PPP leadership, on the other hand, had brought the country to this state whereas their children and assets were abroad.

The PTI chairman said that the PML-N and PPP were the real enemies of Pakistan who looted the national wealth and laundered it abroad. He said Nawaz’s father used to live in Gawalmandi whereas Zardari was known for black marketing of cinema tickets. He asked how these people had earned so much wealth.

Gawal Mandi is very famous neighborhood in Lahore which had the biggest Lord Krishna temple in Punjab. Gawala means Cow Herder and Mandi is for market. Gawalmandi had 100% hindu/sikh population in 1947 and even today if you visit you can easily see the old houses with OM and Ik om kar signs.

Gawalmandi was the biggest milk market in united punjab and now I doubt if there are any non-muslims living there.

Foreign exchange: SBP's reserves fall to alarming level after 4.4% decline

KARACHI: In a worrying development for Pakistan, foreign exchange reserves held by the central bank plunged a massive 4.39% on a weekly basis, according to data released on Thursday.

The alarming level, which has now hit a four-year low, raises concerns over the country’s ability to finance a hefty import bill and meet debt obligations in coming months. Already it has forced the State Bank of Pakistan’s (SBP) hand at letting the rupee go on four separate occasions since December 2017,

On July 13, foreign currency reserves held by SBP were recorded at $9,063.6 million, down $415.9 million compared with $9,479.5 million in the previous week.

This time, the SBP release cited no reason for the decline.

Overall, liquid foreign reserves held by the country, including net reserves held by banks other than the SBP, stood at $15,682.5 million. Net reserves held by banks amounted to $6,618.9 million.

In April, the SBP’s reserves increased $593 million due to official inflows. Pakistan also raised $2.5 billion in November 2017 by floating dollar-denominated bonds in the international market in a bid to shore up official reserves.

A few months ago, the foreign currency reserves surged due to official inflows including $622 million from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and $106 million from the World Bank. The SBP also received $350 million under the Coalition Support Fund (CSF).

In January, the SBP made a $500-million loan repayment to the State Administration of Foreign Exchange (SAFE), China.

The low level of reserves has already put severe pressure on the Pakistani rupee that has witnessed four rounds of devaluation, cumulatively shedding close to 22% to the US dollar since December. With reserves now falling further and an import bill hovering around $6 billion a month, concerns have increased over an imminent balance of payments crisis.

Meantime here are the latest Forex Reserve Figures of Terroriststan :

Just sharing some positive news for Pakistan (so Pak lurkers can be proud) which hasn't to my knowledge has been shared in Pak news papers..

Recent International Math Olympiad, Pak did very well. Few years ago virtually every contestant used to get zero but this time none of them got a zero. In fact if you add all the scores (of 6 Pak contestants) you do exceed the top scorer's points from Bangladesh by a point or 2 (ok 3 points). Of course it is still MUCH less than a typical top scorer from countries like USA. None of Pak student got a medal (== bottom half of pool). (India got 5 medals, USA 6 -- 5 golds, 1 silver)

Sualeh Asif made a Pak gloat a lot last year by getting a Bronze last year (Bronze <> same as "third" -- about 50% of all people get a Bronze, Silver or Gold).. this year he got 4 points in total.

Meanwhile - Like North Korea in past, one of the Uzbekistan this year got punished for pakistaniyat/ cheating.

Good piece of trivia. A famous landmark of Lahore, Laxmi Chowk is shown here (from Wiki): Image

Near the top of the building you see a temple over which there is a lotus in the facade, over which.... well there is some islamic caligraphy, probably allah something. No points for guessing what/who used to be on that lotus (Laxmi Chowk, in case you need a hint). This kind of cultural destruction has been regularly happening all over Pakistan since its creation, but something happens in India and all hell breaks loose. BTW, this is actually South Indian temple architecture, must have been quite unique even then!

Ultimate Insult To Ganja And Maryyam . They Are Not Eligible To Vote In The Paki Elections :P

Missed deadline: No vote for incarcerated Nawaz, Maryam
July 19, 2018
Convicted three-time prime minister Nawaz Sharif and now former candidate Maryam Nawaz will be unable to vote in the upcoming elections as the deadline for prisoners to register through postal ballots has passed.
The deadline for registration of postal ballots for inmates was July 5. Prisoners across the country cast their votes through postal ballot papers issued and prepared by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). However, since the deposed premier, his daughter and son-in-law Capt (retd) Safdar were imprisoned after the ECP deadline, their votes have not been registered.
Interestingly, during the last three decades, Nawaz did not vote on only one other occasion; in the 2002 general elections as he was in self-imposed exile. And now, in the 2018 elections, he will not be casting his vote a second time.

Lakshmi Chowk is in the neighborhood of Gwalamandi. Now it is famous for its food. I was there in 2004-05 and it looked like old delhi. I counted at least 5+ buildings with various names and signs in Hindi/Gurmukhi. Around late 1800s Gwalmandi was built by the rich people of Lahore who moved out of inner city. Later these rich (all non-muslims) built another area in Lahore called Model Town (Dev Anand's family, Khushwant Singh's family, The thapars, etc) most people who are now in Delhi Lutyens zone+Bollywood have had their origin in Gwalamandi/Model Town.

TSPA again confirms that they will not interfere directly in the July elections. 8)

'No direct role of army in July 25 elections,' DG ISPR tells Senate committee
Proxies are the way to do it!
DG ISPR clarified that the army personnel are only following the Election Commission of Pakistan's instructions.
We do not have a direct role in polls.
"Three hundred and seventy one thousand army soldiers will be deployed at the countrywide polling stations. The army is also performing its duty at the printing press [for ballots]."
Maj Gen Ghafoor, however, made it clear that the army's role in providing security for elections did not mean that it would also take direct responsibility for the well being of politicians.
"Unfortunately, until the police's abilities improve, we will also have to do police duty."

Violence and claims of election-rigging overshadow Pakistan’s election

Military machinations

Army meddling could put Imran Khan, a former cricket star, in charge of the country

“FOR the first time in our history, fair elections are going to be held,” insisted Fawad Chaudhry, a spokesman for the opposition Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, this week. Unfortunately, this view is not universally held. The national and state elections on July 25th, in which 100m people are registered to vote, should mark a further stage in the country’s progress towards democracy, for the transfer of power thereafter will be only the second from one civilian government to another in the country’s seven decades of coup-studded history. But the poll takes place amid accusations that the powerful military establishment is tilting the field in favour of the PTI and its leader, a former cricket star, Imran Khan (pictured, on the flag).

There is another dark cloud over the campaign: violence. On July 13th a suicide-bomber, alleged to have links with Islamic State, killed 149 people in an attack on a rally in Mastung, a town in the south-western province of Balochistan. It was the country’s second-deadliest terrorist incident and a reminder that, despite a steep fall in the number of terrorist incidents in recent years, the menace remains.

The bloodshed occurred on the day that the former prime minister, Nawaz Sharif, flew from Britain to Pakistan to begin serving a ten-year prison term for corruption—a punishment that his supporters allege was orchestrated by the army. Reflecting the poisonous mood of the campaign, Mr Khan insinuated that Mr Sharif’s party, the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), was somehow responsible for the bloodshed in Mastung. “Beginning to wonder why whenever Nawaz Sharif is in trouble, there is increasing tension along Pakistan’s borders and a rise in terrorist attacks. Is it a mere coincidence?” Mr Khan asked in a tweet.

Mr Khan’s party has at least an even chance of winning, and he, at the age of 65, of becoming prime minister. What a change from the years leading up to the election in 2013, when the PTI had only one seat in parliament (Mr Khan’s own). Since then his promise of a naya (new), corruption-free Pakistan has enthralled young and middle-class voters. In 2013, in a poll deemed fair by international observers, the PTI took 34 seats in the 342-seat legislature, breaking the duopoly of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), then in power, and the PML-N. Mr Khan is credited with boosting turnout to a 30-year high of 55%.

How close he is to the generals is hard to gauge. Many Pakistanis still praise the “Charter for Democracy”, signed in 2006 by the PPP and PML-N, which appeared to put an end to years of competition between the two parties for the army’s favour. The document pledges that “no party shall solicit support of the military to come into power”. Mr Khan, however, declared it a sham. Within a year of the election in 2013, he was leading protests against the victorious PML-N, accusing it of having rigged the vote. Now the PML-N accuses Mr Khan of having played into the army’s hands with his successful request for the Supreme Court to disqualify Mr Sharif as prime minister because of his undeclared assets in London (it did so a year ago). The army had been chafing at Mr Sharif’s attempts to assert civilian supremacy.

The party’s spin

The PTI’s strategy in this election campaign is similar to the one it adopted five years ago. It emphasises Mr Khan’s celebrity as the “captain” who brought home the Cricket World Cup of 1992, as well as talking up his philanthropy. Mr Khan has established three world-class cancer hospitals in Pakistan. In addition, the PTI promises to secure the return from abroad of $2.3bn that Mr Khan claims was looted by the Sharif family from public coffers.

The Oxford-educated ex-cricketer’s tirades against corruption enjoy much appeal among educated, well-heeled Pakistanis. But Umair Javed, a columnist, says that Mr Khan’s attempts at populism are “just not popular enough” among those who are less well off. Ali Cheema, an academic, says his studies have found that ordinary Pakistanis are more interested in the economy, employment and public services than in Mr Khan’s anti-corruption platform. In these areas, the PML-N enjoys a good record. It has fulfilled its manifesto pledge to end electricity shortages. Its splurge of spending on infrastructure is popular (Mr Khan’s accusations that the PML-N has built too much fall flat). Since 2013 Mr Khan’s party has ruled effectively in the northern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. But its success there may not be sufficient to persuade many voters to desert the PML-N in the national polls.

So the PTI has focused on persuading PML-N legislators to switch sides and bring their voters with them. Mr Khan says that without “electables”, as such weathervane politicians are known, “you cannot contest the election”. Around a third of the PTI’s candidates are recent entrants from other parties. They have been wooed with little regard to their backgrounds. Some are precisely the kind of sleazy politician that Mr Khan has railed against. Opinion polls suggest the PTI is neck-and-neck with the PML-N, says Haris Gazdar, an academic. But the rush of strong candidates to the PTI may suggest that the political elite is putting its money on Mr Khan.

One reason for the defections may be pressure from the army. Several PML-N politicians have publicly claimed in recent weeks that they were pushed by Inter-Services Intelligence, an army-dominated agency, to change their affiliation. Mr Khan denies that the army is supporting him, but says it is the “only institution” that functions in Pakistan. Some of his supporters believe the army is influential. It is playing “a big role” in the election, says Zeeshan Haider, a PTI activist. “They will decide what set-up to bring in Pakistan.” The army denies all such allegations.

By returning to serve a sentence that he attributes to an army conspiracy, Mr Sharif has tried to persuade voters that the election is a choice between democracy (supposedly represented by his party) and military rule with the PTI as its front. On board Etihad Flight 243 to Lahore, the capital of Punjab province and his home town, he told The Economist that his battle with the “establishment”—the army, in other words—was “heading to its peak”. The authorities certainly fear as much. As Mr Sharif prepared to head home, almost 300 PML-N activists were detained to prevent them stirring up trouble. Around 10,000 policemen were deployed to block a procession led by his brother, Shahbaz, a former chief minister of Punjab, from reaching the airport. There Nawaz was transferred to another flight that took him to a prison near Islamabad. Shahbaz has since tried to mollify the army. In an interview with the Financial Times, he vowed to consult the army, when needed, should the PML-N win.

Fears that these elections may not be fair are justified. The work of a 100-strong EU monitoring team has been mysteriously obstructed. For the first time in four elections, the EU observers were able to start their work only a week before the vote. Previously they had started more than a month in advance. The army has also been more visible this time. In 2013, when terrorism was a bigger problem, it deployed 70,000 soldiers to polling stations. There will be 370,000 of them on July 25th. The Election Commission of Pakistan, which oversees the vote, has granted army officers the power of magistrates. This will give them control over proceedings in polling stations. The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, a respected NGO, complained recently of “unabashed attempts to manipulate the outcome” of the vote.

If there is a hung parliament, which is likely, the PTI may be able to form a government with the support of smaller religious parties and independent legislators. The party may even have to approach its old foe, the PPP, which these days has little support outside the southern province of Sindh. That would require Mr Khan to swallow his words about not joining hands with the PPP’s chairman, Asif Ali Zardari. He has accused Mr Zardari, who was president between 2008 and 2013, of corruption. But the two parties did team up against the PML-N in senate elections in March. Mr Khan has proved flexible in his pursuit of power.

NAB to probe Peshawar’s ‘shady, shaky’ rapid bus project
PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has directed the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, to conduct an inquiry into the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), the flagship project of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-led provincial government.
The bench, in its three-page order sheet, stated that, “after hearing arguments at length, we feel it appropriate to refer the matter to the NAB authorities for conducting proper investigation due to the fact that 50 percent scope of work has been enhanced and last date for completion of the project was June 24, 2018.”
Initially, the court stated that Rs49.3 billion was approved and at present the revised PC-1 had been processed for approval with a total cost of Rs67.9 billion.
“We have been informed that the contract has been given to a firm, which was blacklisted in the same type of work by another province under mala fide intention. We have also been informed that from different necessary project schemes, the amount has been collected for this project without considering the fact that the other projects were also necessary and important for public purpose,” the court questioned in the order sheet.
However, the bench in the order stated that anyone from the provincial cadre, or for that matter from the PDA, could be appointed the project director for BRT. On the other hand, an official of the PDA said that the contract had been awarded to the contractors shortlisted by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) after fulfilment of all legal and codal formalities.
He said the contractors are the founders of such projects in Pakistan. He said the Lahore High Court (LHC) had declared null and void the Lahore Development Authority’s decision to blacklist these firms.
Geo News' senior analyst and anchorperson Saleem Safi, during his show 'Jirga' on July 8, revealed that the tea offered to him and his team at the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House had cost around Rs175,000. The anchorperson had also shown documents pertaining to the bills.

The Match (Election) Is Fixed, In Favour Of The Kaptaan ( Imran) . The Economist 8)

Time for Pakistan’s generals to stop meddling in politics
AS A fast bowler, Imran Khan made rival batsmen quake and led Pakistan to victory in the Cricket World Cup in 1992. As a politician, he is thundering towards the election on July 25th and appears to be on the point of scoring another famous victory. Polls suggest his party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), may emerge as the largest; and Mr Khan may well become the country’s next prime minister.
Yet, as a pukka sportsman, can Mr Khan really be happy? Although he and Pakistan’s army deny foul play, the match has been rigged. The army is ensuring that the PTI enjoys privileged access to media, endorsements from powerful people and defections from rival parties. So the dirty work for him is done by the fauj and he can then "play innocent" !
Nawaz Sharif, a three-term former prime minister, and his daughter, Maryam, were arrested as they stepped off a plane from London on July 13th. A campaign of harassment and arrest has affected other parties’ workers far more than the PTI’s. More murkily, the others have also suffered assassination attempts and terrorist attacks, among them a suicide-bomb that killed 149 people at a rally for a local party in Mastung, in Balochistan, on July 13th.
The generals have long pulled the strings of Pakistani politics. But rarely, short of taking power themselves, have they meddled so brazenly. Pakistan’s miserable failure to develop a stable democracy compares ever more starkly with the rude progress of its arch-rival, India. True democracy in Pakistan is a threat to the livelihood of the Deep State !
Whether in the 1970s in the era of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, or in the 1990s during Mr Sharif’s earlier terms, the army’s “jeep-wallahs” first endorsed and promoted pliant civilian leaders, then squeezed them when they grew too independent, and in the end got rid of them.
Mr Sharif lent his name to his party, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), which held a majority in the outgoing assembly. He was forced from office last year after judges upheld a petty charge of failure to disclose a company directorship, then banned him from politics for life in April; he was later given ten years in prison on more serious charges of hiding assets abroad. By returning to Pakistan to face jail, Mr Sharif has turned himself from a grubby politician into something of a martyr. Nobody quite knows why the army turned against him. Most probably it thought him uppity—making overtures to India, for instance or for his quiet questioning of the deep state’s attachment to unsavoury Islamists.
Mr Khan, for his part, started off posing as an anti-establishment politician, railing against the corrupt duopoly of PML-N and its rival, the Pakistan Peoples Party, founded by Bhutto and later led by his daughter, Benazir, who was assassinated in 2007. Mr Khan shows little interest in foreign affairs beyond ranting against America. He chirrups hardline views on such issues as punishing blasphemy with death. Perhaps, some think, he will even form a coalition with ultra-extremists. He is power hungry to fulfill his dream of becoming PM of Pakiland . So, he will do "anything" !
However, one thing that sets this election apart from previous ones is the greater outcry over the army’s match-fixing. Prominent journalists and some of the country’s largest media groups say they have been threatened and coerced into promoting the PTI and muting coverage of its rivals. At a press conference on July 16th Pakistan’s Human Rights Commission, an NGO, declared that there were ample grounds to question the legitimacy of the elections, warning of “blatant, aggressive and unabashed attempts to manipulate the outcome”.
Pakistani voters may yet rebuke the generals. But outsiders can do little to restrain the army, now that Pakistan is moving further into China’s orbit. Mr Khan, who is profiting from army support today, should be aware that he will pay for it tomorrow when the generals come calling.
The Army is propping Imran Khan to show the so-called liberal face of Pakiland . And take advantage of Imran's so called popularity in the western world !
As for the jeep-wallahs, they must see that they are harming the country they claim to defend. In the 70 years since partition, Pakistan has been torn by war, terrorism, coups, instability and religious extremism. It has lagged ever further behind India economically and on other fronts—including cricket. :D

Electricity crisis hits Makran as Iran cuts off power supply
Balochistan Post
July 12, 2018
TURBAT: It is 15th day of electricity breakdown continued in Makran division, approximately 20 lac population is suffering badly to get drinking water, large number of people are searching water from dawn to dusk. Since 1999 Iran supplying electricity to the several areas of Balochistan including Makran division (Turbat, Gwadar, Panjgur & Ormada).
The Anjuman e Taajeran Kech shut down the main markets while Kech bar Association (KBA) announced to boycott the court activities until electricity of Makran is restored. Ejaz Ahmed Advocate the central member of Kech Civil Society (KCS) expressed his views to Balochistan Point that in 21st century Balochistan is still deprived of the basic rights like water and electricity, Turbat is the hottest city of Pakistan where 54 centigrade has usually been recorded in month of June and July. “It is irony in worst situation electricity is not being provided also there is no concept of 3G & Mobile data Network in Turbat,’’ said Ejaz Ahmed Advocate.
Quetta Electric supply company (QESCO) told power supply from Iran was cut due to a technical fault in the main transmission line while some local sources confirmed due to the non-payment from the Government, Iran has cut off the main transmission line which hits Makran.
Most likely it is a combination of both these factors. Non payment due to lack of funds, and technical fault - due to lack of work ethic and /or technical incapability !
Iran supplied 35 megawatts daily between 2003 and 2013 while the amount was increased from 35 megawatt to 100 megawatt which in process and would be utilized for Gwadar city as per agreement.Balochistan’s total power demand approximately stands at 1200 megawatts which is less than half of the requirement of Karachi. Balochistan has no sound industrial base, hence there is no significant consumption of electricity for industrial purpose. The power consumption is largely for domestic purpose.
The BALOCHISTAN POST is not talking about the much -hyped CPEC and the Chini presence in "occupied Gawadar"
Currently, 35MW power is being imported from Iran through Mand, Thaftan and Mashkel interconnection while 39MW was importing for Gwadar. In 2007,Islamabad signed an agreement with Iranian company, which Pakistan will buy 100-megawatt power from Iran for Gwadar port.Iran annually exports over $2 billion worth of electricity to the neighboring countries, including Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Pakistan and Iraq.
The power supply company, Qesco, says that they have been facing difficulty in supplying electricity for 12 hours to the Makran division since Iran cut off the supply. Government official said they have taken up the issue with Iranian authorities to come up with a permanent solution.

Not getting positive news about polls, says Imran

MANSEHRA: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf chairman Imran Khan has said he is not getting good news regarding the July 25 general elections, but people should come forward to participate in the polls and foil conspiracies being hatched against the elections.

“I have not been getting positive news regarding the general elections, but people should get out of their homes to vote on July 25,” Mr Khan told a public gathering in the tourist resort of Nathiagali on Wednesday.

He said time was not far when former chief minister Shahbaz Sharif would also land in Adiala jail for corruption and misdeeds he allegedly committed as chief executive of Punjab.

“Shahbaz, you will also face the same consequences as your brother and disqualified prime minister Nawaz Sharif, his daughter and son-in-law Mohammad Safdar,” said Mr Khan.

The PTI chief said the PML-N leader had registered 32 fake cases against him to punish him for the firm stance he adopted against their corrupt and anti-state polices but he remained committed.

He said caretaker chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Dost Mohammad was biased against the PTI, saying, “I am optimistic that the caretaker prime minister would maintain his neutrality till the elections.”

“I am optimistic you would observe your neutrality till elections as KP’s caretaker Chief Minister Dost Mohammad is siding with Maulana Fazlur Rehman and Akram Khan Durrani. But I hope he will mend his ways,” he said. Mr Khan said that after coming to power, his party would develop four new tourist resorts every year. Highway system built under CPEC will need all sorts of R & R Facilities for the Chinese Truck Drivers & Cleaners.
