Jamaat -E- Islami Has A "Minority Wing".
Among the ‘believers’

Non-Muslim ‘electables’ of a ‘party for Muslims’
In 2000, Pervaiz Masih was informed he would be contesting local government elections in Peshwar’s Town III from the platform of the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI). Masih emerged victorious after securing 172 votes in a constituency where the party traditionally polled around 27-35. Today, he heads the JI Khyber Paktunkhwa Minorities’ Wing, peculiar given the Jamaat’s historic reputation as the vanguard of the Islamic revolution.
While Masih does have reservations on minorities not enjoying an equal footing in some areas, he is effusive in his praise for the JI. Beholden, he said, remain him and his coreligionists to the party for letting them forge successful political careers on merit alone.
 Not sure, why Jamaat is "courting" these Christians .
“I had an audience with (then) Jamaat Amir Qazi Hussain Ahmed in 2002. He told me my ‘trial’ was over and I was being elevated to the National Assembly. I was elected MNA after being awarded a party ticket by president Ahmad Shah Noorani,” the JI K-P Minorities’ Wing chief told The Express Tribune.
Masih claimed then premier Zafarullah Khan Jamali tried his best to lure him to the treasury benches in vain. “His offer of Rs30 million in cash and chairmanship of the minorities’ affairs committee was declined. I have always remained faithful to the Jamaat.” Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (Q) leaders, current and former, remained unavailable for comments despite repeated requests.
Rs 30 Million is a lot of cash . Maybe, the "going price" for an MNA must have increased since that date !
Masih said no other party posed a threat to the JI’s minority candidates on account of sound party strategy. “The Jamaat had 200 minority candidates elected in the 2015 local government elections. Its tally was higher than that of any other party in K-P.”
Besides Jamaat other mainline parties must also courting "minority votes" .
Speaking about the overrepresentation of Christians vis-a-vis other minorities in the JI, Khalil said it was indeed true that the Jamaat had many Christians in its fold. “While Hindus constitute the nation’s largest minority, the community is concentrated in Sindh. Christians, on the other hand, can be found nationwide.” These Christians in Pakjab and KP are mostly schedule castses converted to Christianity, involved most in menial jobs are sweeping, sanitation workers etc etc
Questioned on the apparent contradiction between the JI being a firm supporter of the nation’s blasphemy law and counting many Christians in its cadre, Khalil said it was prone to misuse. “This can be done with anything. Some cases (of blasphemy) are false, others real. Mob justice, however, is no solution.”
I Peshawar Minorities’ Wing president Daniel Samuel described the party’s attitude towards non-Muslims as “extremely positive”. “The Al-Khidmat Foundation has been distributing food among needy Christians every Christmas and Easter over 15 years.”
That does not mean anything. Imran Khan ( AKA Taliban Khan ) has also be known to "sympathize" with Christians and other minorities !
Samuel also spoke about how the NGO had played an active role in the wake of the 2013 Peshawar church bombing. “The community was incapable of helping itself. Over a hundred were killed. Another 250 were injured. Al-Khidmat was god sent. Volunteers helped take the injured to hospitals and bury those killed,” he said.

Legal team meets Nawaz in jail
The Express Tribune
ISLAMABAD: Nawaz Sharif’s legal team was allowed to meet with the former prime minister briefly a day after he was shifted to Adiala jail late after being arrested on arrival in Lahore.Sources told The Express Tribune, that the legal team was only allowed to meet the former premier for five minutes. They further said that the Saad Hashmi-led legal team went to Nawaz to attain the power of attorney so that an appeal could be filed in the Islamabad High Court.
No bed, no AC has been provided to Nawaz in Adiala, they confirmed. A senior police official was present throughout the meeting. Sources also said that Nawaz wasn’t even given a newspaper to read. His bed is a lonely mattress on the floor, and the washroom at Nawaz’s disposal was in despicable conditions.
The legal team was also prohibited from meeting Maryam, only Amjad Parvez, her legal counsel, can meet her.Meanwhile, the PML-N social team has released Maryam’s letter in which she has turned down the suggestion to avail better facilities.
Capt (retd) Safdar is serving his one-year sentence since Monday [July 9], three days following the verdict, as he was the only accused in the country at the time of the sentencing. Both Maryam and Nawaz were in the United Kingdom at the bedside of ailing Begum Kulsoom Nawaz.
Most likely, Safdar must have "cut" a separate deal with the authorities !
Safdar was taken to Adiala after NAB presented him before the accountability court. Safdar, who was awarded two-year ‘rigorous imprisonment’ after the court found him guilty along with his wife, Maryam, and father-in-law, Sharif, was kept in NAB’s Islamabad office overnight and shifted to Adiala in the morning after his court appearance.

Pakistan’s trade deficit skyrockets to historic high

ISLAMABAD: Despite taking numerous administrative measures and devaluing currency by close to 15%, Pakistan booked its highest trade deficit in history in the recently-ended fiscal year, as authorities and PML-N government miserably failed to increase exports and contain the import bill.

The trade deficit in the 12 months of fiscal 2018 stood at $37.7 billion with imports standing at a record $60.9 billion.

The gap between exports and imports weighed heavily on the country’s external sector and pulled official gross foreign currency reserves down to a single digit. The deficit not only broke the year old record but also surpassed the government’s own revised estimate.

“During fiscal year 2017-18, trade deficit stood at $37.7 billion, which was 16% or $5.2 billion more than the comparative period of the previous year,” the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) announced on Wednesday.

The last government of the PML-N had projected to limit the deficit to $25.7 billion. In April, it revised the estimates to $29.4 billion. However, the final trade gap was $12 billion higher than the original estimates of the Ministry of Finance, highlighting its severe capacity constraints.

The fresh statistics have deepened concerns about long-term sustainability of the external sector, which the last government maintained by borrowing from foreign countries and commercial banks. The results suggest that another bailout programme from the International Monetary Fund is now just a matter of time.

Image

According to experts, cheap imports from China have also started to hurt import-substitution industries.

Owing to the swelling trade deficit, the country’s balance of payments is now projected to worsen to levels never anticipated by the finance ministry.

In its budget documents, the ministry has now revised the current account deficit projection to $9 billion for the last fiscal year. The eleven-month current account deficit has already widened to $16 billion.

Former finance minister Ishaq Dar is being blamed for this poor economic show. Caretaker Finance Minister Dr Shamshad Akhtar on Wednesday blamed the weak economic management for a 15-year high debt level of 72% of the GDP. The financing of the current account deficit by taking more loans was also one of the reasons for high debt accumulation.

Exports increased 13.7% to $23.2 billion in last fiscal year, which were $2.8 billion higher than the comparative period of the preceding year. But an increase of $2.8 billion in exports in the year was not even sufficient to finance a month’s trade deficit that remained above $3.8 billion. Exports remained below the revised estimates of $24.9 billion.

In comparison, the import bill widened 15.1% to $60.9 billion in last fiscal year. It was the highest ever import bill that Pakistan paid in a single year since its creation.

“Pakistanis love to consume but high trade deficit is no more sustainable,” said Akhtar.

In absolute terms, imports were $8 billion higher than the preceding year.

The devaluation could not contain the import bill but it added Rs1.190 trillion in public debt, according to Director General Debt Office’s statistics.

The trade deficit in June was 46.1% more compared to the corresponding period of the previous year and the main reason was record imports worth $5.7 billion in the month, showed PBS data. The trade deficit stood at $3.8 billion in June, which in absolute terms was $1.2 billion higher than the deficit in June 2017.

The imports in June grew 26.2% to $5.7 billion. In comparison, exports in the month dropped 1% to only $1.9 billion.

On a month-on-month basis, exports in June slumped almost 12% compared to May. In absolute terms, exports were down $257 million. There was a marginal contraction in imports on a month-on-month basis.

As Pakistan’s Nawaz Sharif is sent to jail, his rival Imran Khan should not celebrate
Right after sweeping the 2013 elections in Pakistan, Nawaz Sharif told me that as prime minister he would show the world that he, not Pakistan’s army chief, was the real boss. But now, on the eve of Pakistan’s next election, he has returned from London (where he went to visit his ailing wife) to face not only jail time but a military establishment that is determined to finish him.
In choosing to return (instead of opting for exile) and possibly spend 10 years in prison for corruption, he has in fact given his party, the Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) (PML-N), a fresh burst of energy — and maybe even an advantage — in the imminent elections. Flanked by his daughter and political heir, Maryam, Sharif has presented himself as the only Pakistani civilian with the courage to take on an army that has ruled Pakistan by either diktat or stealth for the past 70 years.
The three-time prime minister’s hold over his government began unraveling when his family was named in the Panama Papers leak in 2016. He and his daughter were eventually convicted and barred from contesting elections because Pakistan’s special anti-corruption court decided the family had been unable to disclose how they funded four luxury flats in London. The court acquitted Sharif of the charge that he acquired the flats by corrupt or illegal means but ruled that the purchase of the properties was beyond the range of Sharif’s known and disclosed income. Before this jail verdict, Sharif had been removed from the post of prime minister by Pakistan’s Supreme Court for not being “honest” or “truthful.” These vaguely worded descriptions (otherwise known as “ameen” and “sadiq,” respectively) are two of the most contentious articles in Pakistan law and were brought into force by its most despotic military dictator, Mohammed Zia ul-Haq. No matter where you stand on the corruption allegations against Sharif, there is a wide consensus among ordinary Pakistanis that Sharif has been punished disproportionately. The corruption case may well be an attempt to undermine the autonomy of civilian politicians in Pakistan’s stunted democracy. In a country where not a single prime minister has ever completed a five-year term, Sharif’s case has been called a judicial coup. And that is precisely why Imran Khan, who is Sharif’s main challenger and could even become the country’s next prime minister, should not be celebrating the fall of his rival.
Khan is a glamorous, Mick Jagger-lookalike cricketer turned politician, who opponents say has the blessings of the shadowy deep state that controls the country. He has described supporters of Sharif, who came out on the streets of Lahore to defy deployed police officers, as “donkeys” (a south Asian colloquialism for stupidity). He has ignored the embarrassing tabloid headlines (about sexual affairs and unacknowledged children) that have emerged from a strategically timed book written by his ex-wife Reham. Instead, Khan, who once told me in an interview that liberals are the “scum of Pakistan,” has carefully built his entire political campaign on being anti-corruption and anti-poverty and promoting anti-Americanism. The Oxford-educated former captain of the country’s cricket team — who has courted social conservatives and fundamentalist clerics — wants Pakistan to be an Islamic welfare state.

SBP raises interest rate to 7.5pc
KARACHI: The State Bank of Pakistan on Saturday raised its interest rate by a sharp 100 basis points to 7.5 per cent, the biggest push in 10 years, and flagged concerns about economic uncertainties, which remain the key factor for policy tightening this year.
The SBP enumerated four reasons behind this year’s third hike.
The SBP said its liquid foreign exchange reserves witnessed a net reduction of $6.7 billion to reach $9.5 billion as of July 6. Liar, liar, pants on fire, Your nose is longer than a telephone wire. The SPB has taken a "Foreign Exchange Loan" of US$ 5.8 Billion from the Terroristani Commercial Banks but this US$ 5.8 "Loan" is shown both in the SBP Column as well as in the T C B Column - A clear case of Double Accounting! As such the total Amount of Foreign Currency Holding by BOTH SBP AND TCB is ONLY US$ 3.70 BILLION - BASTA! To a question, SBP governor said the next government has to decide about any bailout package from the International Monetary Fund. He said the central bank may take more administrative measures, such as imposition of 100 per cent cash margin requirements on the imports of non-essential items to combat higher import bill. The SBP said stock of private sector borrowing increased by Rs768 billion in FY18, which translates into a growth of 14.8 per cent. The central bank also withdrew an advance payment facility of up to $10,000 for importers in an apparent move to restrict outflow of dollars amid depleting foreign exchange reserves.

Disillusioned PhDs

Hundreds of PhDs recently protested outside Islamabad Press Club for not getting jobs according to their qualification. Holding placards, they blamed the Higher Education Commission (HEC) for failing to provide them suitable jobs. The doctorate degree holders contended that, according to an agreement, the HEC had to arrange for their jobs for the first year of getting their degrees. Thereafter, they had to find employment for themselves. But the HEC argued that it provided various scholarships to offer PhD programmes to the candidates and after getting their degrees, they were expected to fend for themselves.

Those pursuing a common cause usually unite on a single platform, hence the formation of Young PhD Doctors Association Pakistan (YPDAP). The recent protest by the YPDAP is not the first of its kind — it has been protesting for its rights for the last few years. However, the dilemma is that many PhDs do not meet the global standards. Some hold PhD in subjects that have little demand in the existing job market. Because of the poor standard of the institutions conferring PhDs, the HEC has forbidden about thirteen universities from running MPhil and PhD programmes through distance learning. These universities had failed to meet the basic standard for conducting such programmes.

Moreover, wheeling and dealing at fake degrees has become a lucrative business both for the institutions selling the degrees and the candidates buying such degrees. We don’t know how many Axact-qualified degree holders and PhDs are gainfully employed in government departments and the private sector. The sad part is that such fraudsters deprive the genuine candidates of jobs. The Axact affair occasionally popped up in the newspapers and then died down. Recently, however, a court sentenced the Axact CEO and 22 of his accomplices in fake degree cases to seven years in jail.

A BBC report titled ‘Staggering trade in fake degrees’ in January this year revealed how about 3,000 fake Axact degrees were sold to UK-based buyers in 2013-2014, including master’s degrees and PhDs. BBC’s Radio 4 programme added: “Thousands of UK nationals have bought fake degrees from a multi-million pound ‘diploma mill’ in Pakistan”. The developed world couldn’t produce a feat that the fertile brains of a developing country managed to offer to the world. It’s often said that given an opportunity our boys can do wonders in any field, not to mention here how hundreds of black coats with fake degrees allegedly operate in our courts. None other than former chief justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali pointed it out once during one of his addresses. Because of the intimidating influence of black sheep among them the lawyers’ community has acquired with time, nobody can touch the fakes among them. In existing aura of litigations, the legal profession is doing very well, thank you.

Come election season, some politicians who claimed to hold PhD degrees, decided to drop ‘Dr’ before their names when submitting their nomination papers to the election commission. Similarly, some religious scholars reverently addressed as Dr so and so for years, have shed their doctorates before filing their papers. Remember, how some of them kept the audience spellbound by their glib oratory on matters of religion and morality. The smooth talking moralists turned out to be charlatans par excellence.

Nevertheless, the PhDs having genuine degrees deserve to get their rightful status and employment opportunities, particularly in private and public sector universities. The problem is that ‘connections at the right places’ matter more than upholding the sanctity of merit. Many senior professors occupying teaching slots in the institutions manage to get extensions after reaching the age of superannuation. Thus, they deny opportunities to mid-level professors to move up the ladder and vacate their positions for the vibrant class of young PhD degree holders to fill.

The appointments of VCs in public-sector universities usually draw criticism for showing favouritism in their selection. Too many professors vie for too few positions as VCs. But why this run for the top slots? In leading foreign universities, professors hesitate to become VCs, as with such responsibilities, they do not get time to carry out research work and write research papers. This explains why none of our universities has attained a position among the leading universities of the world.

Another Scam Unearthed By N.A.B.

NAB arrests 5 for alleged involvement in Rs63 billion oil scam
July 14, 2018
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has arrested five officials from Pakistan State Oil (PSO) and two private oil companies for their alleged involvement in a Rs63 billion oil scam, it said on Saturday. The arrests were made on July 11 after a series of raids in Karachi, Islamabad and Gilgit, NAB officials informed media today.NAB said it had arrested a former general manager (Supply) from PSO, Byco Pakistan Petroleum Ltd.'s (BPPL) former chief operating officer and BPPL's former president (Refineries) from Karachi.PSO's former general manager (Retail and Consumer Business) and current chief executive officer of Jinn  Petroleum from Islamabad were also picked up, while PSO's former senior general manager (Marketing) was arrested from Gilgit.
According to NAB, the PSO officials had sold crude oil worth Rs2.43 billion to BPPL between 2008-9, for which the state oil company received no payment. In 2012, PSO allegedly entered an agreement with Byco Oil Pakistan Ltd (BOPL), even though the latter wasn't commissioned until 2013, NAB alleged.Despite the company not being commissioned at the time of the agreement, the state oil company purchased substandard petroleum products from the firm, causing the national exchequer a loss of Rs60 billion.
NAB produced the suspects arrested from Karachi before an accountability court on July 12. PSO's former general manager (Supply) and BPPL's former president (Refineries) were sent on 13-day physical remand while BPPL's former chief operating officer was granted judicial remand on medical grounds. The remaining two suspects will be produced before court on July 16.
. Seems that NAB is working overtime these days . Why no names were being mentioned here :D

Facebook Clamps Down On Hafiz- Suar. And His -So- Called M.M.L

Ensuring transparency: Facebook disables MML accounts
The Express Tribune
July 15, 2018
LAHORE: Social media giant Facebook has disabled various accounts and pages of the Milli Muslim League (MML), a political faction of Hafiz Saeed-led Jamaatud Dawa. A couple of months ago, Facebook Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg highlighted that it was his priority to make sure his social networking website supports positive discourse and prevents interference in the upcoming elections of Pakistan, India, Brazil, Mexico and other countries.
Recently, the Facebook administration also contacted the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and offered to make an exclusive trend for general elections scheduled to be held on July 25 in Pakistan. The social networking site has also offered help to local authorities to identify and remove fake pages of different political parties.
In response to the Facebook offer, the ECP has responded that the commission does not maintain any official page on the social media website. However, after deliberation among members and senior officers the commission will respond to the Facebook management.
Input from Deep State
MML spokesperson Tabish Qayyum told journalists that the social networking website has removed numerous accounts of their candidates and workers without giving any reason. He said Facebook’s act is a gross violation of its own policy and sanction on freedom of expression.
He strongly condemned the Facebook action and underscored that freedom of expression is the basic right of every human and political party. “Elections are round-the-corner and all political parties are using social media for electioneering. Deleting MML candidates and workers’ accounts on a particular time is injustice,” he added.
He said that the Facebook administration has guaranteed special protection to pages of the political parties and accounts of their candidates in election 2018. “All political parties are using social media to spread their message. Voters are being attracted by posters and video messages but the MML has been denied this facility without any reason,” he lamented. The MML and Hafiz does not hesitate in using this "western (infidel ) technology" to spread "anti-western, anti -India and anti Jewish hateful messages

All Decks Being Cleared For A PTI Party Victory

July 25 elections will be fairest in country’s history: PTI
ISLAMABAD: When most political parties are crying over the failure of the authorities to provide them a level playing field, the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) claims that the July 25 elections will be the fairest of all the elections so far held in the country.“For the first time in the country’s history, fair elections are going to be held,” said PTI’s information secretary Fawad Chaudhry while talking to Dawn here on Saturday.
PPP stalwart and former Senate chairman Raza Rabbani stated that the July 25 polls had already become “controversial due to meddling” by an institution and “failure” of the ECP to play its constitutional role.
Mr Rabbani said the PPP had even named the army’s colonels and majors interfering in the poll process. He alleged that the candidates were being pressurised to either change their parties or withdraw from the race. “NAB can only see two parties. The third one is invisible to it. The lotas (turncoats) who had switched allegiance and joined a different party, are they above blame now? Why are they not being held accountable?” he asked.
The other side of the story not mentioned by Mr. Chaudhry !
The PTI leader said that the news conference of PML-N president Shahbaz Sharif earlier in the day was “an absurd attempt to hide the humiliation his party faced on the roads of Lahore on Friday”.He said Shahbaz Sharif failed to gather a few thousands of people despite manipulations, threats and bribes. He said the statement of the former Punjab chief minister about electoral results was a manifestation of his acceptance of defeat in the polls.Mr Chaudhry said after the Avenfield reference, Al Azizia and Flagship investment references would further “expose the corrupt face of Sharif mafia before the nation”.

ISLAMABAD: The interior ministry informed the Supreme Court on Saturday that red warrants had been issued to bring former finance minister Ishaq Dar back to the country.A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar had taken up the matter of Mr Dar’s repeated absence from hearings despite being given several directions. The attorney general also told the court that the cancellation of Mr Dar’s passport would be used as an alternative option if he continued to refuse to return to Pakistan.
Dar, the Ex Finance Minister ( and brother -in-law of Ganja Sharif ) and a London trained Chartered Accountant is the missing link between Nawaz and the missing billions from the Paki Treasury !
He said the interior ministry on a request of the Federal Investigation Agency had issued red warrants and was now waiting for a reply from Interpol. The court was also informed that Mr Dar’s properties in Pakistan had been forfeited.
Interpol was also used- unsuccessfully- to get at MQM's Altaf as well !
Mr Dar’s presence had been sought by the Supreme Court in a suo motu case regarding the appointment of playwright and columnist Ataul Haq Qasmi as chairman of the state-run Pakistan Television (PTV) on a hefty package. Mr Qasmi was looking after the affairs of PTV after the three-year contract of former managing director Mohammad Malick expired on Feb 26, 2016. Mr Dar was asked to come to the court and explain why Mr Qasmi had been appointed to the prized post at such a hefty salary.
This case is probably just an excuse . He is being sought to seal Nawaz's fate !

"App ka suo moto dus rupey Supreme Court of Pakistan Dam Saquib Nisar Retirement Fund main denay ka shukria"

At 8 cents a piece (10 Terroristani Rupees @125 PKR/ $1 exchange rate), even if every abdul, ayesha and nanha of Bakistan were to donate, it would come out to less than $17M.

Sure two dams will be built!

And Zaradari is probably going ...

A paki actually did the math on this time wasting, self-interest-loaded exercise. Apparently, calculators, even chini ones, are in short supply in that gateway to malsi.

Donating for dams
with all due respect this is not how infrastructure finance is done
You do not crowd (or mob-)-source a mega dam.
voluntary donations to fund the Diamer-Bhasha dam, whose cost has been given as Rs1.450 trillion
The cost of reservoir construction was given as Rs650 billion, and the rest for power turbines and associated infrastructure, and land acquisition and resettlement.
As of writing, the total amount deposited in this account was Rs32 90 million (but much of it is pledged).
Since the account is shown as being open since July 6, let’s assume only three of those days were functioning; that comes to almost Rs10m per day. Next let’s assume this will pick up pace, since tacit pressure has come to apply on banks to raise funds from their employees (in a meeting held on Tuesday). Exactly how ‘voluntary’ the contributions will be is a separate conversation. For the moment, if we assume that on average, the account sees an inflow of Rs20m per day (which is highly optimistic), then it will take 72,500 days to reach the target, or 199 years. :D
For next year, the amount allocated for construction of the dam part of the project alone is Rs23.68bn as per the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) document on the Planning Commission’s website. Now do the math. At Rs20m per day, it will take 1,184 days to reach the target of Rs23.68bn, or 3.2 years. Meaning even next year’s PSDP allocation (for the dam part alone) will not be possible to meet the amount.
Public finance is not a joke, the state cannot be run like a charity (blasphemy, if immy duh dimmy becomes the PM), and infrastructure finance cannot be crowd-sourced like this.

Paki track record in crowd (nay, mob) sourcing such hair brained deals is less than "charitable";
This is not the first time that a joke has been made out of a very serious matter. After the earthquake of 2005, Pervez Musharraf launched a similar fund called the President’s Relief Fund. Once launched, similar tacit pressure tactics were used to get people to pay up, and one by one various companies lined up saying ‘we are pleased to contribute’, and the amounts were a million here, two million there, until interest dried up and everyone moved on. Likewise, Nawaz Sharif launched a ‘qarz utaro, mulk sanwaro’ scheme in his second term, in the late 1990s, in an effort to get donations to help pay off Pakistan’s external debt. That too ended in an embarrassing whimper.
I’m old enough to remember a similar scheme by Zulfikar Ali Bhutto in his last year. The television ads asked everyone to contribute one rupee a day, which the ad promised would be used for development purposes. The visual used to illustrate ‘development’ was a cement elevator. And that was also that.
Pakis, as always, jumping from one bright idea to another to protect their never existing HS&D. Keeps them going for another year until the next emergency.

The only time when mob-sourced a deal was when all pakis ate grass for twenty years and they had a nooklear bum.

Hoodbhoy is wading into troubled waters with this one.

July elections: the certainties
IT is rare for elections to leave democracy weaker, not stronger. But this is what will happen after July 25.
Controlled elections are always a blow against democracy. Among other things, democracy needs elections. And proper elections need a level playing field.
A large cross section of Pakistanis is not seeing the next elections as free and fair. (not per immy duh dimmy)
The banning of Nawaz Sharif from holding political office for financial corruption, though right and proper, could have stopped right there. Instead, it turned out to be the first step towards a systematic dismantling of his party.
One could have still hoped for some degree of fairness if there had not been such determined gagging of television and the press. The slant is impossible to miss.
As for the messianic crusader against corruption, Imran Khan, who has moved heaven and earth in his mission: he is now freely admitting he cannot become prime minister without his ‘electables’. These are men who have pledged loyalty to him, and have amassed enough wealth and power to buy their way so that they might make still more.
a much bigger impediment to democracy is Pakistan’s venal political class, whose members seek only individual gain.
Third, it is a foregone conclusion that the power to change Pakistan’s relations with the world will not lie in civilian hands.
As a praetorian state, Pakistan’s national interest is defined by the military. Civilians endorse decisions, they don’t make them.
The dependency knot with America has been cut but regional trade is minimal and all hopes are tied to CPEC. This new dependency means taking dictation from China.

A letter to Yawn!

Of a PIA flight
AS a motivated citizen, I took PIA flight 797 to Toronto on June 22. My experience was far from pleasant.

To begin with, the flight departed late. As the plane took off, my wife and I thought our worries were over and we would enjoy a smooth journey in the plane’s business class.

Our consolation was short-lived when the seats refused to recline. The televisions did not work; their remotes rattled uselessly in their brackets. We soon realised that the bathrooms in the plane were dirty and the stench emanating from them was unbearable.

The onboard service was sloppy. Being a septuagenarian, I am not a gourmand, but one easily loses appetite seeing the type of food served by hostesses. I am a frequent flyer but I never witnessed a similar situation in a PIA flight earlier. I was disappointed to observe that there were no foreigners travelling on this flight.

Maybe they had experienced the bathrooms’ stench earlier and had decided not to board a PIA again.

As a Pakistani, I was quite disillusioned by the despicable performance of the airline that once had made us proud.

Pakis "Taken For A Ride" . Once Again . By Chini Pharma

DRAP Issues Recall Alert for Critical Heart Medicine Due to Impurity
A common medicine that’s used to control high blood pressure to prevent heart failures is recalled in Pakistan by the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan.
Decision was made after an impurity was found in raw materials of “Valsartan” that is manufactured by M/S Zhejiang Huahai Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd, China.
.
Valsartan medicines are used to treat patients with high blood pressure in order to reduce heart complications.
According to the Journal of Pakistan Medical Association & National Health Survey (2011), 33% of the Pakistani population above the age of 45 has hypertension, with 19% prevalence in people of age 15 or above. The statistics have only risen since then, which means the consumption of Valsartan medicines is pretty high in the country.
The stress of day to day Paki life, along with diet preferences ( meat !) might be a big contributing factor. !
The impurities found in these raw materials — from which Valsartan is manufactured — were substances that could cause cancer. DRAP Recall alert stated that a total of nine Pharmaceuticals Companies in Pakistan are on the DRAP recall list, and this list does not include Getz Pharma and its’ products, Cova, Covam, & Cova-H.
A statement issued by Getz Pharma’s said that its Valsartan brands are manufactured using raw material/Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) sourced from suppliers who are qualified as per WHO guidelines.
Company said that its manufacturing facility is pre-qualified and approved by WHO Geneva, as well as from a member country of the Pharmaceutical Inspection Co-operation Scheme (PIC/S). As of today, it operates in 22 countries across the globe.Individuals who have been consuming Valsartan brands are requested to visit their health care consultants to take necessary measures and protect themselves!
More details — on pharma companies that were issued a recall alert — can be obtained from this link.

According To This Report, Paki Parents Are Forcing Their Children To Seek Their Fortunes Abroad, Whether They Like It Or Not !

Strangers in a strange land
Sabika Shah Povia
July 15, 2018
“WILL I make it, Baji? Will they open the border?” Faizan asked me. The 17-year-old boy from Pakistan left his village in Gujrat after performing istikhara. He belonged to a very religious Syed family. His brother worked as a custodian at the tomb of a saint and he had worked in a lab. His parents said it was his duty to go to Europe, find a job and support the family by sending money home to help his three sisters get married, as his brother’s job was too honourable to ask him to quit. “I didn’t want to leave, but I had no choice,” he said.
I met him in January 2017 on the Balkan route, in Subotica, a town in northern Serbia, at the border with Hungary. He was just one of the hundreds of Pakistanis stranded in unofficial camps in the country at minus 15 degrees Celsius. I don’t know if he ever made it to Europe.
It is a long long way from Gujrat to Northern Serbia . And obviously there is a big question mark about " I didn't want to leave, but I had no choice"
Since the European Union signed a deal with Turkey to stop migrants from crossing into Europe in March 2016, and the right-wing governments of eastern European countries built walls and fences to seal their borders, the Balkan route has officially been declared closed. Really, it never was. In fact, what this meant was not that fewer people were migrating, but that fewer people were making it through, feeding Europe the illusion that something had changed by effectively making those thousands who were stuck in this limbo suddenly invisible.
Most of the Pakistanis I met on the Balkan route were hoping to reach Italy. “It’s easy to get papers there,” they would repeat like a mantra. Little did they know that a year on from then, Italy would elect the first populist government of central Europe, a government that based almost its entire campaign on reinforcing and spreading the already too common anti-immigration sentiment amongst the population.
Italy, under its new govt, has closed its doors to these illegals !
Twenty-four-year-old Zarar reached Italy in August 2017. He had left Rawalpindi in March the year before. The first time I met him was in Subotica, where he too, like Faizan, was sleeping in an abandoned brick factory that had been occupied by migrants waiting to cross into Hungary and continue their journeys. “I didn’t think it would take this long,” he says.
These illegals throw themselves up to the mercy of the local and international refugee authorities . And they are plain economic refugees ( almost all of them !) not political ones .
No one ever does. Those that the migrants refer to as “agents” and in Europe are labelled as “people smugglers”, promise their clients they will reach Germany, Italy, Austria in 20 days. Migrants pay between six and 10,000 euros each to embark on the journey. However, during the trip, they are kidnapped, humiliated, beaten, held hostage several times, and their families forced to send more money to help them reach the promised destination.
They are unwanted human cargo nothing else !
Although Pakistanis are usually denied refugee status, they are often recognised for either what is known as “subsidiary protection” or “humanitarian protection”, due to the generalised conflict situation that has reached levels of indiscriminate violence, increasing the risk for civilians.
The newly elected Italian minister of the interior Matteo Salvini, leader of the far-right party Lega Nord, has begun a harsh crackdown on immigration since being appointed. Vessels carrying rescued migrants from the Mediterranean are not being allowed to disembark at Italian ports and migrants are being sent back to Libya increasingly frequently.
Due to its controversial reputation abroad and the fact that Pakistan is a Muslim-majority country, there is particular concern regarding the integration of Pakistani citizens in Italy: ‘Pakistanis kill their daughters. They want to impose Islam on everyone. They don’t respect women. They are terrorists.’ These are just some of the widely spread prejudices.
However, most Pakistani migrants don’t seem to be worried about this. “Yes, there are some challenges here, but life is still better than where I’m from,” says Asif, who reached Italy 14 months ago after leaving Sialkot. “My family sacrificed a lot to send me here. They are counting on me and I can’t let them down.”
It is just a matter of time, before they are caught and deported back to Pakistan !

Paki UN Envoy " Expresses Satisfaction And Pushes For "Better Deal" For Paki Illegal Migrants Venturing Abroad To Seek Their Fortune .

Pakistan hails first-ever accord at UN on Global Compact on Migration
“This is truly a historic moment when multilateralism has triumphed,” Ambassador Maleeha Lodhi said after the text of the ‘Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration’ was finalized on Friday that involved two years of discussions and consultations among member states.
In her remarks, the Pakistani envoy said the document draws a clear distinction between refugees and migrants, upholds the human rights of all migrants regardless of their status, provides clear guidelines to strengthen migrant-inclusive service delivery systems, promotes immigrant integration and regularization, provides a gender-responsive and child-sensitive approach and addresses the vulnerabilities of migrants.
The Ambassador should be aware that genuine migrants and refugees are entitled to such social services, but not illegals, which sorry to say , most Pakistanis are !

Pakistan to file rejoinder on Kulbhushan Jadhav's case in ICJ
July 15, 2018
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan will file its reply in the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on July 17 regarding convicted Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav.
India had gone to the ICJ to halt the execution of Jadhav in Pakistan.Commander Jadhav — an on-duty Indian navy officer working for Indian covert agency Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) — was arrested on March 3, 2016, from Balochistan, after he entered into Pakistan from Iran.Jadhav was tried in a military court which sentenced him to death for espionage and subversive activities.
Geo quoted diplomatic sources saying the reply will be submitted by Foreign Office Director India Dr Fareha Bugti, who in the The Hague for the purpose. Dr Bugti had also submitted Pakistan's counter-pleading in December last year.Sources said Pakistan’s response contains detailed replies to India’s submissions to the international court.
Pakistan’s 400-page reply — a rejoinder to India's last reply — has been prepared by a team of experts led by the attorney general, sources informed further.
Quantity ( 400 page reply ) does not equal quality .
In its counter-memorial, Pakistan had stated that Jadhav is not an ordinary person as he had entered the country with the intent of spying and carrying out sabotage activities. The reply also stated that Jadhav, who was a serving officer of thndian Navy, does not fall under the purview of the Vienna Convention.

Caretaker govt kick-starts process of availing IMF bailout

KARACHI: Overwhelmed at the debt level and depleting foreign exchange reserves, Pakistan’s caretaker government has kick-started the process of seeking a bailout from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to enable the incoming government to move along quicker if it chooses to exercise the option.

Very few would disagree that Pakistan would need another IMF bailout as foreign exchange reserves deplete to less than two months of import cover even after three separate rounds of rupee devaluation. With exports not nearly picking up pace and remittances failing to match, a widening current account deficit has taken toll on the country’s economy that faces several near-term challenges.

In this backdrop, Caretaker Finance Minister Dr Shamshad Akhtar said the groundwork for the IMF programme is being put in place. “Groundwork is being launched so that the incoming government, should it agree (on the IMF bailout), can proceed fast with its processing,” Dr Shamshad said while addressing media at the Pakistan Stock Exchange on Saturday.

“I (the caretaker government) can go to the IMF, but I am not … and leaving this decision on the new government.”

She said rebuilding foreign exchange reserves is an immediate and most critical priority of the government.

A massive import bill and repayments to foreign creditors have eroded reserves that dropped below $9.5 billion at the start of this month.

The minister suggested a change in approach to maintain the reserves at a stable level. “We should plan for six-month import cover instead of 3 months.”

Receipts from exports and workers’ remittances have remained insignificant to offset the massive impact of exorbitant import bill and debt servicing. The trend suggests the current account deficit would hit a record high of $18 billion (or 5.8% of GDP) in the fiscal year ended June 30, 2018, she estimated.

Similarly, the budget deficit has exceeded the set target of 4.1% of the gross domestic product (GDP) to 6.8% in FY18.

“This has soared due to some “off the budget liabilities (of the government),” she said.

The deficit would have been much more than the one realised if the government had fully spent the amount under the development programme.

“The expenditures’ overrun was Rs40 billion despite containment of PSDP (Public Sector Development Program) of the order of Rs334 billion,” she said.

The fiscal deficit has exceeded the set target by 2.7% due to shortfall of Rs679 billion in revenue collection. “Total revenue shortfall (Rs247 billion relative to original budget) would have been steeper without the tax amnesty scheme which contributed Rs89 billion,” she said.

Increased expenditure and accumulation of public debt has been due to some unexpected developments, including the fact that average interest rate rose by one percentage point, (excluding the one the SBP increased on Saturday), rupee depreciated by 14% in the last seven months and crude oil prices rose from $55 per barrel to $75.35 in the wake of international price movements, she added.

“(But) people don’t need to panic on public debt. US increased its debt during the last recession.

She added that the tax-to-GDP ratio has increased to 12.8% compared to 11.2% in the prior fiscal year, but needs to double as soon as possible.

Ajax-resident Farida Syed said she was opening the haleem spice mix, a staple among the South Asian diaspora in North America, when a loud pop akin to the sound of a firecracker caused the box to catch fire.
“This is a go-to item for fellow South Asians all over North America who use this product day in and day out,” Syed’s daughter Sheeba said. Police brought in both, a bomb squad and a forensics team to investigate, she said.
While the manufacturer of the product remained unavailable for comments, ITN, the Canadian distributor of the Pakistani company said it was actively involved in the probe. “Based on our current findings this particular incident is isolated but we are vigilantly monitoring the investigation and will provide any update where require,” Tariq Ansari of the ITN said in an e-mail to the CBC.

TERRORISTAN and TERRORISTANIS are now recognized worldwide.
KARACHI : It was an International Cricket Council (ICC) World T20 match in Dhaka and I was startled when the crowd and fireworks roared in the end.

A Bangladeshi journalist, who had just observed my surprise, asked me why I was overwhelmed as I was supposed to be accustomed to these things. “After all, you are a Pakistani? You must be used to such things,” he said.
The H&D of Bakistanis being shredded by those Bangali SDREs!
More H&D losses in the same article by Zimbabwe:
The board did not even care to ask anyone about their opinion and carried on with their plans to send the team to Zimbabwe.

When our players communicated with the locals, they got to know that the country has been experiencing tough law-and-order situations because of the upcoming elections.

When some of our cricketers expressed their reservations, they were shamefully made fun of. When the Pakistan team was set to depart for Bulawayo, they were informed, at the very last moment, that the team should stay back since Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) had not paid for their accommodation in Bulawayo.

Boy Dies Because Imam Takes Law In Own Hand !

Boy dies after imam beats him with iron rod
LAHORE: A minor boy died after being subjected to physical torture by an imam at a mosque in Shalimar on Tuesday. Police identified the victim as Abdul Ahad, who would go to the mosque where he was taught by the imam of the mosque, Ahmed Raza.Reportedly, a few days ago Raza had beaten the child with an iron rod. When the child returned home, his condition deteriorated. His family admitted him to Kot Khwaja Saeed Hospital from where doctors shifted him to Lahore Mayo Hospital.
However, despite medical intervention, Ahad succumbed to his injuries. A police team transferred his body to the morgue for an autopsy. They also collected forensic evidence and recorded eye witness statements.
After the incident, the accused fled the area. The victim’s family lodged a complaint against the imam. Police apprehended Raza from Gujranwala and are investigating the matter further.
This is not the first time there has been a death after a religious teacher has beaten a child. In January of this year, an eight-year-old madrassah student was beaten to death in Karachi’s Bin Qasim Town, while in November 2017, a student was molested and tortured before being thrown off the seminary’s roof in Faisalabad.
Wonder, if there is a law in Paki schools and madrassahs making corporal punishment illegal ?

Maulana Diesel Says No To "Enlightenment And Open Mindedness !

July 15, 2018
MULTAN: “Enlightenment and open mindedness are not a part of Islam; those who promise you a ‘free’ environment are the enemies of Islam,” said Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) President Maulana Fazalur Rahman.
He expressed these views while addressing a MMA procession late Friday night.
The general elections are not a test for the candidates contesting the polls, they are a test for the nation. Citizens will not only choose an individual but they will also choose a political and economic system, he expressed.
If Imran comes to power as expected, it will be very difficult for Maulana Diesel, to "sit at the power table" , due to his "special knack" of leeching himself to whoever happens to be PM. Worst comes to worst, he may be asked to vacate the sarkari kothi and the govt car that he has been "enjoying" due to his status as "Chairman of Kashmir Committee"

Mush Living Beyond His Means

Musharraf got Rs20m on retirement, bought Rs400m flats in London, UAE
ISLAMABAD: Official land registry documents of the UK government show that Pervez Musharraf had made a payment of 1.35 million British pound (Approx 20 Caror Pak rupees) for purchase a flat in London on May 13, 2009. Another flat in UAE approximately with same monetary value was purchased by him in the same duration, whereas total financial benefits given to him following his retirement as army chief were less than Rs20 million (2 carore rupees).
There has been consistent rumours , off and then that The Kammundu conned / sweet talked Late King Abdullah of Saudia with parting with $ 1 to $ 2 Million US , in the name of Ummah unity . And that probably explains the sudden influx of "manna from heaven"
Official documents submitted by Musharraf before Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) before contesting 2013 general elections, available with The News, show that he has not sold out any of residential or commercial plots or a farm house he obtained during his army service. The two squares (50 acres) agriculture land in Bahawalpur allotted to him because of his army service was sold out by him in 2002.
