Oct 22, 2018

MUMBAI – Renowned Pakistani gender reforms specialist, Salman Sufi received the prestigious Mother Teresa Award in Mumbai on Sunday for his work on empowerment of women in Pakistan.
The ceremony was attended by notables including Mahesh Bhatt, Dr Abraham Mathai, Rizwan Merchant and a plethora of Bollywood stars.
One of those rare Pakis who managed to obtain vijja for India ! Now, he is forever going to be "under the radar" of The Premiere Institution Of Pakiland

PS: By the way, is it halaal to accept an Award ( no matter how prestigious) from a dushman nation. And a kaffir as well.

Don’t take extraordinary measures for patient where cure is unlikely: Mufti Taqi Usmani
The News International
Oct 22, 2018
Web Desk
Karachi: Eminent Islamic scholar Mufti Taqi Usmani has said that patients should not be placed on ventilators for unlimited time if there is no hope of their recovery and attendants should follow the advice of doctors about their patients’ health and well-being.
“Extraordinary measures should not be taken for the treatment of a patient where it is known that it would definitely enhance the sufferings of a patient but cure is least likely”, Mufti Taqi Usmani said while speaking on “End of Life and Palliative Care: An Islamic Perspective”, at concluding day of Karachi Con’18 of Pakistan Islamic Medical Association (PIMA) here at a local hotel on Sunday.
What is a Paki Mullah doing at a medical conference ? And he was "invited" to speak ? Does he have medical training to speak on this technical and moral matter ? Or , was he there to partake of the free lunch or dinner that must surely have been served

Indian Army asks Pakistan to take back bodies of intruders killed in Sunderbani sector – PTI

NEW DELHI: The Indian Army has asked the Pakistan military to take back bodies of two "intruders" from that country who were killed in a gunfight along the Line of Control in Sunderbani sector of Jammu on Sunday, official sources said.

Two heavily armed Pakistani intruders and three soldiers were killed on Sunday in the gunfight after the Army foiled an infiltration bid along the LoC.

The intruders were believed to be members of a Border Action Team (BAT) comprising Pakistan Army jawans and trained terrorists, an Army officer said on condition of anonymity on Sunday.

The sources said the Pakistan Army has been informed through established communication channels to take the bodies of its nationals, who were wearing combat uniform.

Army sources said a stern warning has been conveyed to the Pakistan Army to restrain terrorists operating from its soil.

The sources said five to six Pakistani intruders crossed the LoC and fired on Indian Army patrol in the Sunderbani sector.

They said since the talks between DGMOs (Director General of Military Operations) of the two countries on May 29, the Indian Army has been maintaining "utmost restraint" to uphold the ceasefire pact along the LoC despite regular provocative actions from across the border.

However, Pakistan Army has been vigorously attempting to send terrorists across the LoC and seven infiltration bids have been foiled by the Indian Army since May 30, in which 23 terrorists have been killed.

Reports suggest concentration of a large number of terrorists in launch pads across the order and they are desperate to infiltrate into India before the onset of winter.

Govt loses to IPPs in British Court - Hasnaat Malik

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has suffered a setback when a court of appeal in the UK rejected its final plea, challenging the jurisdiction of the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA) in a suit filed by the independent power producers (IPPs) for the recovery of dues from a government-owned national grid company.

The LCIA had ruled in favour of the nine IPPs for the recovery of approximately Rs11 billion unpaid capacity payments from the National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDCL).

The IPPs claiming recovery of dues are: the Hub Power Company (Narowal), Sapphire Electric Company, Halmore Power Generation Company, Liberty Power Tech, Atlas Power, Nishat Chunian Power, Nishat Power, Orient Power and Saif Power.

NTDC to hire consultant for technical study

The NTDC had approached the London High Court against the international tribunal’s award regarding the payment of almost Rs11 billion to the IPPs. After conducting the proceedings for two days, the NTDC withdrew its case. However, the court did not waive the cost.

“In pursuant to the order dated 25 May 2018 of the London High Court, the court, inter alia, ordered NTDC to pay £400,000 to the IPPs on account of costs by June 29, 2018,” the court order read. Later, the cost was paid by NTDC.

Subsequently, the power purchaser approached the Court of Appeal, challenging the LCIA’s jurisdiction and the international arbitrator to award in favour of the IPPs.

The Court of Appeal on October 4 held that the judge correctly decided that the seat of the arbitration was London because of final and binding determination to that effect by both — the LCIA court and arbitrator.

He also correctly decided that in those circumstances, on the basis of well-established principles set out by the Court of Appeal, it was the sole supervisory jurisdiction in relation to the arbitration in England, says the order, which is available with The Express Tribune.

The order further says that the NTDC seeks to challenge the conclusion of the judge’s order and that final and binding determination on the basis that the governing law of the relevant agreements — the law of Pakistan — makes it unlawful for Pakistani parties (which both the sides in this case are) to seek to oust the jurisdiction of the Pakistani courts.

“If there were any merit in this argument, it could and should have been advanced before the LCIA and the arbitrator which it was not.”

The order further says that the respondents (IPPs) are correct that it is not open to the applicant (NTDC) to challenge the sole seat of arbitration and thus of the supervisory jurisdiction in England.

“Contrary to the applicant (NTDC) submissions, C v D (Claimants vs Determination) is neither distinguishable nor wrongly decided. As that the case demonstrates, once the seat of arbitration is decided as London, English courts have the sole supervisory jurisdiction over the arbitration and it is irrelevant to the conclusion that the governing law of the agreement is a foreign law, there New York here Pakistan.”

It is further noted that the NTDC counsel’s contrary arguments are ‘ingenious but have no real prospect of success’.

Penalised: Regulator imposes Rs10m fine on NTDC

Lastly, the order says that the challenge to the “judge’s consequential orders is also hopeless”.

A senior lawyer, while commenting on the October 4 order says that if the NTDC challenges the award in a Pakistani court now, then it shall be in contempt of court in England.

Earlier, LCIA judge Justice Phillips had restrained the NTDC from challenging the Partial Final Award in proceedings in Lahore, Pakistan, or anywhere other than England and Wales on a permanent basis.

The PTI-led government is facing major battles in world legal forums, paying billions of dollars in damages in several controversial matters, especially in the Reko Diq and Karkey.

Both the cases – the Karkey rental power plant and Riko Diq – will be concluded next year. It is learnt that the federal government is unable to evolve a fruitful strategy to deal with the cases.

“Currently, Pakistan is facing more than 40 cases of different nature at international courts. The majority of IPPs also filed cases with international arbitrators, seeking clearance of their pending dues, amounting to more than Rs1 trillion,” the legal experts said.

The country would have to pay astronomical sums because of the judgments passed by the Supreme Court led by former chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.

The legal experts are urging the courts to restrain from adjudicating matters related to financial deals wherein arbitration clauses are added to avoid consequences.

CII 'not considering' nikahnama that would guarantee women's right to divorce husbands: spokesman
The Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) has clarified that it is not considering drafting a new nikahnama (marriage certificate) that would guarantee women the right to divorce their husbands unless they explicitly waive it themselves.
The council's explanation comes in response to news reports that the council is in the process of drawing up a new marriage document that clearly enlists women's rights, including their right to divorce.
CII spokesman Ikramul Haq said no such marriage document was under consideration that would include a clause clearly allowing women to divorce their husbands.
According to Haq, necessary clauses will also be added to the documents to make the family system stronger and more consistent in light of teachings of the Holy Quran and Sunnah.
Although the provision allowing a woman to dissolve her marriage is already present in the existing marriage certificate, it is often not enforced, leading women to opt for the tedious and costly path of obtaining a khula through a court.
But a khula is conditional and not the same thing as a right to divorce one's husband.
Phew!

HEC director resigns amid plagiarism charges - Zaigham Naqvi

ISLAMABAD: Executive Director of the Higher Education Commission Dr Arshad Ali has resigned from his position, reportedly out of fear of his looming sacking. A brief statement released by the HEC spokesperson said Dr Arshad resigned to save the commission’s goodwill from any possible damage.

The commission is said to have recommended his termination after finding heavy plagiarism in his research papers while HEC Chairman Dr Tariq Banuri is said to address a press conference over the matter.

According to reliable sources, Dr Arshad resigned fearing his termination as more than 60 per cent matter in his 2014 paper is reported to be plagiarised from University of Texas.

Learning Chinese: HEC awards scholarships to 36 students

Dr Arshad published this paper and used it to complete his degree. Sources revealed the 18-member commission of the HEC remained nonoperational for a long period and implementation of many high-profile cases involving that of the HEC ED hung in the balance despite final reports being ready.

The plagiarism case’s report had been completed in April, 2018, which confirmed content theft and recommended action.

When plagiarism by the HEC top official was proven, the then HEC chairman wrote to the education ministry that on receiving reports of piracy in his research paper, the Quality Assurance Division had the issue investigated by experts who confirmed plagiarism.

HEC reviews formula for providing funds to varsities in the country

The division also reviewed another eleven papers by Dr Arshad and found plagiarism on a large scale, after which the panel recommended terminating his contract. To analyse all aspects the former HEC chairman formed another high-level committee so that requirements of justice could be fulfilled.

Vice-chancellors of major universities were included in this committee and Dr Arshad was given a chance to personally defend his case.

However, after plagiarism was again proven, the panel directed the then HEC chief to implement penalty, who then wrote to the education ministry that as he was about to complete his tenure, the recommendations should be implemented by the next chairman.

Meanwhile, in an important meeting of the HEC held on Saturday, the commission recommended execution of the commission’s direction, which was to fire Dr Arshad. The HEC ED is believed to have caught air of the news and resigned from his post. According to sources, if his resignation is accepted, it will be tantamount to giving him a safe way out.

When Is ISI Going To Contact Jaish-al- Adl And Demand That They Release The Iran Revolutionary Guards

Jaish al-Adl militants claim responsibility for Iran troops abduction
The News International
Oct 22, 2018
Tehran: A militant group has claimed responsibility for the abduction of 12 Iranian security personnel near the border with Pakistan, Iran´s semi-official news agency ISNA reported Monday."The terrorist group Jaish al-Adl (Army of Justice in Arabic) has posted two photos... claiming that those in it are the forces abducted" on October 16, ISNA said.Jaish al-Adl, formed in 2012, is a successor to the extremist group Jundallah (Soldiers of God) which has carried out a spate of attacks on Iranian security forces in recent years in the southeastern province of Sistan.
The Iranians, including intelligence offices, were abducted near Lulakdan, a village 150 kilometres (90 miles) southeast of Zahedan, capital of Sistan-Baluchistan.
The photos also show a haul of automatic weapons and sniper rifles, rocket launchers, machine-guns, grenades and ammunition, apparently seized from the Iranian forces.
There is absolutely no doubt that this is also a creation of Pakistan's Premiere Institution . The Irani Army Chief last week phoned General Pajwa and "demanded" that he do something to get them released. Pajwa can easily do this if he wants to . He can threaten to shut the money pipeline to them , and they will comply

LO KAR LO BAAT!

Three ministers face graft probe - Sohail Chaudhry

ISLAMABAD: Three members of Prime Minister Imran Khan’s cabinet are facing graft charges and may be shown the door if the allegations proved true, The Express Tribune has learnt.

The prime minister has ordered an inquiry into the corruption allegations levelled against his three aides, sources said, without naming the trio.

The revelation came from none other than the PM himself at a meeting of the federal cabinet on Friday.

Fake accounts case hearing postponed till November 13

According to the sources, at the conclusion of the cabinet meeting, the PM asked all government officials to leave the meeting room. He then made the shocking disclosure to his cabinet members.

Participants of the meeting included federal ministers, ministers of state, advisers and special assistants to the prime minister. The revelation, said the sources, left all of them dazed.

Prime Minister Imran told the meeting that he received preliminary reports about financial corruption against the three ministers, and that he had given the go-ahead for a formal inquiry into the allegations.

“If the allegations are proven during the inquiry, no leniency will be shown to the ministers in question and they will be sacked,” said Imran, according to the sources.

He went on to say that he had struggled tirelessly against financial corruption for 22 long years and would never compromise on the issue, said the sources.

The shocking revelation came a day after the prime minister told a select group of television anchorpersons that his government had a policy of zero tolerance on corruption.

He said that no corrupt politician or official would escape accountability and that everyone would be held accountable for their financial wrongdoing.

Zardari’s close aide arrested in fake accounts case

“Nobody will be offered an NRO,” he said, referring to the National Reconciliation Ordinance – a law introduced by former military dictator Pervez Musharraf allegedly to offer immunity to politicians against their financial wrongdoings.

Referring to a slew of graft cases against the Sharif brothers, he said none of those cases was filed by the PTI government.

“NAB is an independent institution. The government has not intervened in its investigations,” he said, adding that all the cases against the Sharifs had been framed during the tenure of the previous government.

"Pot Calling The Kettle Black" Story -From The Robust Paki Press

#MeToo: Founder of women rights’ NGO accused of sexual harassment( When did #MeToo Movement "Land" In Islamic Pakiland  )
Pakistan Today
Oct 22, 2018
Syed Imran Ali Shah, the founder of a non-government organisation (NGO) Mehak, has been accused of sexual harassment by a girl on social media, which the former has denied the allegations.
A series of WhatsApp screenshots are doing rounds on the social media wherein Shah could be seen asking for sexual favours from a girl in exchange for a government job.“Your life will be set if you become friends with me,” Shah wrote in the chat, further promising that he will get her a government job and funds from youth affair department.
( Pakistan is # 1 country for poxn search on google chacha, followed by Egypt not Saudia  )

Image
Shah also claimed that he is a close friend of “Secretary’s PA” and he can get monetary funds from him for the girl. Upon this, the girl replied that she cannot sell her respect. “Because of people like you, our families do not allow us to go to events,” she wrote before blocking him.
Another Paki life ruined by the UnIslamic MeToo Movement
Pakistan Today tried to contact Imran Ali Shah but he switched off his mobile. However, Shah posted a status on his Facebook (FB) account writing: “I am always very respectful towards girls all the females coming into my program knows how much respect I give to them not a single female can complain about me who attended my programs. ”Calling it a “shameful act” against him by his haters, Shah further wrote: “This is utterly shameful act by my haters to let me down and manipulate my image, please don’t trust anyone without proves this is a dirty game to malign my image and let down my NGO name but I have a firm belief on Allah that I’ll prove my haters wrong.”
Now his future arranged marriage is on the rocks . If already married, then marriage problems loom in the horizon
Meanwhile, the Facebook account of the girl, who posted the chat, has been blocked by the FB.As #MeToo movement has gained a momentum in neighbouring India, many women in Pakistan have also come forward and shared their stories of harassment. Faisal Edhi and comedian Junaid Akram are among people who have been accused of harassment. However, both have denied the allegations.
Have the Mullahs come out with a Fatwa or a relevant Hadith on this subject matter. From the Golden Days Of Malsi . Yet

"Desperate Immy " Lands In Medina Seeking Financial Succor And Financial Comfort For Bhooka Nanga Pakistan

Desperate times call for desperate measures
Pakistan Today -by Staff Report , (Last Updated about 1 hour ago)
Oct 22, 2018
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan arrived in Saudi Arabia on Monday to attend the Future Investment Initiative Conference (FIIC) in Riyadh, saying his country was going through the worst debt crisis of its history “so we are desperate at the moment”.The prime minister arrived in Madina alongwith Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Finance Minister Asad Umar, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry and PM’s Adviser on Commerce Razzak Dawood. The delegation was received by Madina’s Governor Prince Faisal bin Salman and Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to Pakistan Nawaf Al Malki.
Am 400% sure that in this "desperate times" the Peerni is not tagging along for a second "private viewing" of The Holy Meteor ( AKA The Kabaa !)
“The reason I feel I have to avail myself of this opportunity [to speak to the Saudi leadership] is because in a country of 210 million people right now we have the worst debt crisis in our history,” PM Khan told British news website, the Middle East Eye, before leaving for Saudi Arabia.
Imran is always a "good draw" for the British Media . Maybe, the Journo might put in a few good words for his "beggary request" . Not sure, however if the Saudi Royals have a habit of reading , leave aside reading English Newspapers published in Britain.
“Unless we get loans from friendly countries or the IMF [the International Monetary Fund] we actually won’t have another two or three months enough foreign exchange to service our debts or to pay for our imports. So we’re desperate at the moment.”
The desperation shows here ! However, for the Paki papers back home, he had a different message last week , when he addressed them !
When asked by the interviewer, the Pakistan prime minister said he was concerned at the death of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi at Saudi consulate in Istanbul, but could not skip the Future Investment Initiative (FII) conference because “we’re desperate” for possible Saudi loans to shore up Pakistan’s economy.
If he is still looking for Saudi Moolahs, Imran is cautioned not to criticize the Saudis on the "delicate Kashoggi issue "
On Saturday, organisers said more than 120 speakers and moderators will participate. Last Monday, they had listed more than 150 speakers. The summit organisers have now removed the list of speakers from its website.
The FIIC has already been boycotted by United Kingdom, United States and France. It is Khan’s second visit to Saudi Arabia in just over a month, but he has not succeeded in securing significant financial assistance to stave off a looming balance of payment crisis.
The A & B listers from Europe and Massaland pulled out because of the "Kashoggi Murder". To salvage The Conference , C Listers like Imran Khan have been asked to fill in the void. But The Kaptaan has his own Agenda. He is not here to "invest in Saudi Arabia" . He is there to "beg for funds" for his bankrupt nation
Finance Minister Asad Umar and Commerce Minister Abdul Razak Dawood are accompanying Khan, a statement from Khan’s office said on Monday, adding it “will give a chance to connect with those people who are interested in investing in Pakistan.”

Good luck !
The conference dubbed as “Davos in the desert” will host leading businesspersons, investors, corporate giants, representatives of hi-tech industry and major media outlets at one platform, the Foreign Office of Pakistan said in a press statement earlier. PM Imran’s participation on the first day of the conference is aimed at projecting Pakistan’s economic and investment potential as well as its vision for the next five years.
PM Khan’s government has sought loans from allies such as China and Saudi Arabia, promised to recover funds stolen by corrupt officials, and embarked on a series of high-profile populist austerity measures. But help has been in short supply and economists’ warnings have grown increasingly urgent.
PM Khan will also meet King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman during his visit to discuss “matters of mutual interest”. ( AKA "beg for money" )

Address your own issues: India slams Imran Khan’s statement on Kashmir

NEW DELHI: Taking a stern view of Imran Khan's statement on Kashmir, the government on Monday lambasted Pakistan prime minister for meddling in India's internal affairs.

"The remarks made by Pakistan's prime minister in his tweet today are deeply regrettable. Instead of making comments on India's internal affairs, Pakistan leadership should look inwards and address its own issues," ministry of external affairs said.

Official Spokesperson’s response to media query regarding a tweet by Pakistan Prime Minister

October 22, 2018

In response to a media query regarding a tweet by Paistan PM, the Official Spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said :

“The remarks made by Pakistan’s Prime Minister in his tweet today are deeply refrettable. Instead of meaking comments on India’s internal affairs, Pakistan Leadership should look inwards and address it own issues. Pakistan would serve the interest of the people of the region by taking credible action against all kind of support to terrorism and terror infrastructure from all territories under its control rather than supporting and glorifying terrorists and terror activities against India and its other neighbours. Pakistan’s deceitful stand on dialogue, while supporting terror and violence, stands exposed to the whole world”

New Delhi
October 22, 2018

The ministry was responding to Khan's earlier tweet where he had criticised the recent death of civilians in Kashmir following an encounter between the armed forces and the terrorists.

Referring to incidents of violence in Kashmir, Khan, in a tweet, said that time has come for India to realise that it must move to resolve the Kashmir dispute through dialogue in accordance with the UN Security Council resolutions and the wishes of the Kashmiri people.

"Strongly condemn the new cycle of killings of innocent Kashmiris....by Indian security forces," he tweeted.

The ministry further added that Pakistan should first take action against the terrorists and terror infrastructure on territory under its control.

"Pakistan's deceitful stand on dialogue, while supporting terror and violence, stands exposed to the whole world," the ministry added.

It is not the first time Khan has spoken about Kashmir.

In his victory speech after the July elections, Khan expressed his willingness to improve Pakistan's ties with India and said that his government would like the leaders of the two sides to resolve all disputes, including the "core issue" of Kashmir, through talks.

He had said good India-Pakistan relations will be beneficial for the entire region.

A meeting between the foreign ministers of India and Pakistan was announced on the sidelines of the United National General Assembly. However, in September, New Delhi called it off, citing killings of Indian security personnel by Pakistan-based entities and the release of Pakistani postage stamps "glorifying a terrorist and terrorism".

India maintains that the entire state of Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of the country and Pakistan is in illegal occupation of a part of the state's territory.

$3.78b Dasu dam loan may get lapsed, warns World Bank - Zafar Bhutta
ISLAMABAD: The World Bank has expressed serious concerns over years of delay in the construction work on run-of-river Dasu Hydropower Stage-I project warning that the $3.787 billion loan it approved for the project in June 2014 could get lapsed. The project was set to complete in June 2021.
“It was claimed [by previous government] that they had completed land acquisition for Dasu dam, but currently we have only seven per cent [or 740 acres] of land in hand as we require 12,000 acres,” said Minister for Water Resources Faisal Vawda while addressing a press conference on Monday.
“The nation has to bear its [the delay’s] fallouts and we have to resolve the issue,” he added.
He said a meeting of the steering committee with the World Bank had been pending for the last many months. “Today after visiting the bank and discussing the issues, we held the committee meeting and cleared the NOC [no objection certificate] of the bank,” he added.
The minister said the government had made a plan to work on the project on a war footing and was working for land acquisition, adding that all possibilities would be exploited to curtail the losses.
“We are incurring a Rs300 million loss per day on this project. The previous government always took steps that deprived the province [of Khyber Pakhtunkwa] of the benefits [of the project], received kickbacks and got the project delayed,” he alleged.

Pakistan 'desperate' for Saudi loans to shore up economy: PM Imran – Reuters

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan said on Monday that the government is ''desperate” for possible Saudi loans to shore up the economy.

The premier is in Saudi Arabia to attend an international investment conference ‘Davos in the Desert’ boycotted by other leaders over the death of journalist Jamal Khashoggi at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.

PM Imran told an interviewer before leaving for the kingdom that he is concerned at Khashoggi’s death but could not skip the conference owing to possible aid from Riyadh.

It is prime minister’s second visit to Saudi Arabia in just over a month, but he has not succeeded in securing significant financial assistance to stave off a looming balance of payment crisis.

He told the Middle East Eye in an interview that he could not pass up the invitation to meet Saudi leaders again.

“The reason I feel I have to avail myself of this opportunity is because in a country of 210 million people right now we have the worst debt crisis in our history,” he was quoted as saying.

“Unless we get loans from friendly countries or the IMF [International Monetary Fund], we actually won’t have in another two or three months enough foreign exchange to service our debts or to pay for our imports. So we’re desperate at the moment,” he added.

PM Imran arrives in Saudi Arabia to attend key investment conference

Finance Minister Asad Umar and Commerce Minister Abdul Razak Dawood are accompanying the premier, a statement from the PM Office said on Monday, adding that it “will give a chance to connect with those people who are interested in investing in Pakistan”.

Islamabad has already asked the IMF to open negotiations for the country’s second potential bailout in five years.

PM Imran, who took office in August, still has been seeking alternatives to the tough conditions the IMF is likely to impose for loans, limiting his vision of an Islamic welfare state.

The central bank’s foreign reserves dropped this month to $8.1 billion, a four-year low and barely enough to cover sovereign debt payments due through the end of the year. The current account deficit has swelled to about $18 billion.

The prime minister has blamed the previous government’s policies for the ballooning current account deficit.

He told the Middle East Eye that he was concerned over the “shocking” death of Khashoggi, a US resident and Washington Post columnist, after he entered the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.

“The Saudi government will have to come up with an answer… We wait for whatever the Saudi explanation is,” Premier Imran was quoted as saying. “We hope there is an explanation that satisfies people and those responsible are punished.”

PIA Problems . Excuse For Sales Drop .

Issues in PIA’s New Reservation System Cause Steep Drop in Sales
Oct 21, 2018
Pro- Pakistani
Pakistan International Airlines’ (PIA) new reservation system, the HITIT has caused a drop in sales, local media reports say.
The Senate’s Aviation Committee grilled the Chairman of the National flag-carrier Muhammad Saqib Aziz regarding the operations of the new system. He reportedly failed to satisfy the committee with his reponses. After the meeting, Mr Saqib Aziz conveyed all the details from the Senate session to HITIT Computer Services Chairman Noor Gukman and urged him to resolve the matter on a priority basis.
PIA recently acquired the services of HITIT Computer Services – a private Turkish company – that sells commercial IT systems for the travel industry. With the acquisition of the new airline management system, PIA ended its 20-year partnership with Sabre Global Distribution System (Sabre) – a USA-based company.
This is like exchanging a bronze medal in exchange for giving up gold
PIA chairman had said that the HITIT would provide services for reservation, flight operations, accounting, crew management, flight check-in and flights scheduling and other services. He claimed that this new system is not only cost-effective but also very efficient compared to the previous one.
The drop in sales belies his claim .
PIA officials had stated that the new system might need some time to stabilize. However, a month later, the problem persists.
Going for "cheap" does not bear fruit most of the time .

I don't recall seeing the Abraaj collapse discussed here...

https://www.wsj.com/articles/private-eq ... 1539706575
http://www.thefashionlaw.com/home/priva ... crosshairs
In January, the Abraaj Group had $14 billion of assets under management and was trying to raise $6 billion for what would be the world’s largest emerging-markets private-equity fund. It’s now the world’s largest insolvent private-equity firm. In June, it filed for provisional liquidation.

During its rise, the Dubai-based firm attracted many Western investors. Its founder, Arif Naqvi, promised to make money by doing good in poorer countries, including with a fund that would invest in hospitals serving African and Asian cities.
...
Mr. Naqvi himself started a $100 million charity in his home country of Pakistan, and funded students attacked by the Taliban. He accumulated estates in England and France, a $20 million yacht, a private jet and Asian and Middle Eastern art...
Paki deadbeat will kick back with a beer and share stories with Mallya at the neighbourhood pub in London, looks like:
Arif Naqvi, the embattled founder of Dubai-based Abraaj Group, will not return to the UAE while there is the threat of imprisonment hanging over him, his lawyer told Arab News.

Naqvi, who had an arrest warrant issued against him by a Sharjah court earlier this week, is believed to be in Britain, where he has residence and owns several properties.

Imran Khan vows to hold peace talks with India after Lok Sabha polls – AFP

RIYADH: Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan Tuesday vowed to hold peace talks with India following elections in the neighbouring country, after a similar offer from the former cricketer was 'rebuffed'.

Khan made the announcement during a speech at a Saudi Arabian investment conference where the newly minted leader launched a charm offensive targeting potential investors as Pakistan seeks to secure funds amid a yawning balance of payment crisis.

"When I won the elections and came to power the first thing I tried to do was extend a hand of peace to India," Khan told the crowd at the Future Investment Initiative (FII) in Riyadh, saying the overture was later 'rebuffed' by Delhi.

"Now what we are hoping is that we wait until the elections then again we will resume our peace talks with India," he added, referring to upcoming Lok Sabha polls scheduled to take place by mid-May.

In September India pulled the plug on a rare meeting between its foreign minister and her Pakistani counterpart on the sidelines of a UN summit- a move that was termed 'arrogant' by Khan and unleashed a barrage of insults from both sides.

Khan's call for peace talks comes as his administration is desperately seeking funds from 'friendly' countries, including Saudi Arabia, to shore up Pakistan's deteriorating finances.

The prime minister's attendance at the FII comes as leading policy-makers and corporate chiefs shunned the conference in response to the death of journalist Jamal Khashoggi at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.

During his address at the FII Khan confirmed that Pakistan was also in talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) over a new bailout.

Since taking power in August Khan has also sought loans from allies such as China and Saudi Arabia, promised to recover funds stolen by corrupt officials, and embarked on a series of high-profile populist austerity measures.

But help has been in short supply and economists' warnings have grown increasingly urgent.

CONCLUSION : IMHO India must be fully ready and able to respond to Terroristani Terror Attacks say from a Period of Six Months PRIOR to the 2019 Elections, DURING the Elections and Six Months AFTER the 2019 Elections. I, for one, feel that any time now and then forever, India must be prepared to counter - if not desist - the Terroristani Army's planned Terrorist Attacks on-in India. India's preparedness must be similar to Israel's Preparednesss I'm Ran Can is but a Tool of the Terroristan Armed Forces and Terrorists.

Immy's "Beloved Mianwali" Gets Preferred Treatment Under His Regime

Prohibited in Centre, permitted in Punjab
The News International
Umer Cheema
Oct 23, 2018
ISLAMABAD: A few days ago, Health Services director general visited Mianwali, a district which has figured atop in the priority list of the Punjab government for development work. He was there for onsite inspection ahead of an ambitious plan to carry out three health projects.
Included among them is all-female hospital of 100 beds for mothers and children. Mianwali will be the first city in Punjab, rather in Pakistan, to have a specialised facility of this size for gynecology and pediatric cases. A medical college and a paramedical school are two other projects of health sector conceived for this city, Dr Munir Ahmed, DG Health Services, told The News.
Mianwali is considered among the backward districts. Dr Munir acknowledged that the health projects have been planned after the formation of the PTI government. This is the VVIP’s town hence this must have some benefits too, DG Health Services said.

Thought that the Kaptaan had done way with the VIP Culture . Another U Turn - to add to the growing list of U Turns
While the PTI government at the federal level announced an end to discretionary funds of prime minister and development funds for MNAs, no such thing has happened in reality. The PM Office has dispatched covering letters with the proposals submitted by an MNA from Mianwali about different development projects and has directed the federal and provincial administration to give them serious consideration.
As for as Mianwali projects are concerned, Amjad Niazi told The News some weeks ago that being MNA it is his right to submit proposals for the well-being of Mianwali. Prime Minister’s spokesperson Iftikhar Durrani also confirmed that PM’s Office forwarded Amjad’s proposals to the relevant departments. He however insisted that this was not in violation of the policy adopted wherein discretionary funds were abolished.
Imran is PM now. He can do what he wants. Rules are for the opposition

PM directs ministry to reduce electricity tariff

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday directed the ministry of power to take urgent measures to reduce electricity tariff and burden on consumers caused by power theft and line losses.

Chairing a meeting of the Energy Task Force at the PM Office, he ordered officials to immediately launch crackdown against power thieves as it would not be tolerated to make people bear the brunt of others’ theft.

The prime minister said for the first time, the government was formulating energy polices keeping in view the country’s needs for another 25 years to fulfill the future domestic and industrial needs besides ensuring energy mix and devising a well-coordinated framework.

During the briefing given to the prime minister, it was told steps were being taken to reduce dependence on imported fuel and exploit local resources to the maximum level. He was apprised the Punjab government had formed a task force chaired by the Punjab chief minister to curb power theft while other provinces had also been directed to follow suit.

The meeting was told that large scale use of technology was being made to improve power transmission and distribution which would also help reduce issues like power theft. The prime minister directed the power division to formulate a comprehensive plan to include representatives of different companies to resolve issues in supply of quality power transformers.

Meanwhile, PM Imran was apprised that Pakistan was rich of the world’s ninth largest reserves of shale gas but previous governments paid no heed to exploit those resources. He was informed not even a single block was awarded during last five and half years while the incumbent government would soon finalise the award of 10 blocks in a transparent manner.

The meeting also reviewed impediments in exploration of oil and gas and decided to get services of Oil and Gas Development Company to conduct seismic survey to accelerate the exploration.

The prime minister directed urgent measures to resolve the security related issues confronting the oil and gas exploring firms. The Frontier Constabulary would give protection cover to the firms in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, it was decided.

The meeting was told foreign companies having winded up their operations in Pakistan could be brought back by addressing obstacles in oil and gas exploration. The premier welcomed return of world-renowned exploration firm Exxon to Pakistan and resolved the government would extend all out facilities to it.

CPEC not responsible for Pakistan’s economic woes, says China - Amjad Mahmood

XUZHOU: Worried over the ‘anti-CPEC’ campaign in Pakistan, China says the all-important international connectivity project is not to be blamed for the ongoing economic crisis in Islamabad.

“Loan repayments for the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects will start in the financial year 2023-24 when economic growth rate of Pakistan will be much higher than present (and then country will be in a better position to bear the financial liabilities),” Prof Sun Hongqi told a conference on CPEC here on Monday.

Prof Sun - who is adviser to the President on Pakistan Affairs - sought to negate the impression being spread by anti-CPEC campaigners that only Beijing will benefit from the regional connectivity projects.

“What will China gain from energy projects given priority in the first phase of CPEC as per desire of Islamabad other than helping our all-weather friend to overcome the electricity deficiency badly hitting its economy,” asked the scholar who also heads the Pakistan Study Centre at Jiangsu Normal University.

Mr An Qiguang who had served as a diplomat in Pakistan, announced that Chinese companies executing various CPEC projects would hire more Pakistani labour and mid-level managers.

He was responding to a suggestion given by Syed Muhammad Mehdi, a columnist from Pakistan, that for giving Pakistanis a sense of ownership of the CPEC, China should involve the local population in executing projects.

Jiangsu’s Deputy Secretary General Wang Zhizhong said that they would import more agriculture products from Pakistan to help reduce the trade imbalance between Islamabad and Beijing.

Chairman Chahbahar Free Trade-Industrial Zone Korsi Abol Rahim said that there was no rivalry between Gwadar and Chahbahar. He believed that the two ports would rather complement each other to the benefit of the entire region.

Later, multiple memorandums of understanding (MoUs) worth millions of dollars were signed between various Pakistani and Chinese business concerns.

Dr Amjad Abbas Magsi of the Punjab University called for removing trade imbalance between the two countries and demanded that Beijing approve the same trade agreement it had offered to Association of South East Asian Nations members at the earliest to remove the reservations of Pakistani businessmen about trade ties with China.

The two-day international moot was attended by academia, intelligentsia and businessmen from Pakistan, Iran, Malaysia, Thailand, Bangladesh and South Korea. Ms Mumtaz Zahra from Pakistan Embassy in China, and Jiangsu Communist Party Secretary General Zhou Tiegen were also present.

‘Next 3-6 months difficult for country’: PM talks economy, CPEC, PTI’s plans
Imran Khan on Tuesday said that the next three to six months are going to be difficult for the country
Corruption makes a country poor and our main objective is to eliminate malpractice and strengthen state institutions
We have been in power for 60 days. We have inherited two big deficits; fiscal deficit and current account deficit.
So the immediate concern of our government is to increase exports because we have shortage of foreign reserves,
We need to get more remittances through banking channels because there are 8-9 million foreign Pakistanis who live abroad. (as compared to domestic bakistanis who live in bakistan?)
the PTI government was also keeping a close eye on money laundering and ways to curb it.
Khan said that the concept behind a naya Pakistan was to get the country and people reconnected to its roots.
I want the country to become a welfare state as that of Madina.”
Pakistan was the first choice for tourists and investors in 60s. :rotfl: Then the 9/11 changed everything and the country saw less number of visitors every year.”
All will be well after 180 days.
