Something does not square up or my sample is too small and composed of similar people.

I know atleast 2 older but neutral gentlemen who became Modi fans when they saw him walking barefoot during Shavyatra of ABV. Even Sons don't do it anymore for their parents. There are many such instances of Modi ji connecting with soul of Bharat with his gestures. Lot of posters here think that yuppy crowd like Rahul because of Gandhi/Young/fair/Single (take your pick). No, most of them listen to him because they are expecting a gaffe or silly comment by him and to chuckle and yet brag, 'Aayenge to Modi ji hi'.
My personal reading is that BJP alone will end up at 300-305.

As someone had posted a video earlier, Every time Rahul Gandhi calls PM 'a chor', he loses few 100 votes and part of the respect he gets because of Gandhi surname. Indic civilization frowns up calling people older than oneself names or bad mouthing people who are dead.

Your perception is correct all over India except in Telugu states.

The people see this as second freedom movement and are coming out in droves to support Modiji.

There are numerous issues that need to be fixed with our election process, such as large scale deletions of names suspected to be 'other party supporters' from rolls, violence/law & order situations created around specific booths to scare voters into skipping voting, bias of returning/poll officers.. Hacked EVM machines are not one of the problems that need to be addressed.

In theory, its possible.. To preserve faith in the process, VVPATs were introduced. But if EVMs can be hacked, VVPATs can be hacked too.. What is stopping the 'hacked' machines from printing additional 'receipts' and adding votes to the tally while they are kept out of sight in store rooms? In practice, EVMs/VVPATs are the best possible solutions for the Indian electoral system. Politicians want paper votes because they want to go back to the 'good old days' of booth capturing and stamping all ballots in 5 minutes and escaping. With an EVM, the pace of the voting is electronically limited, and if even if you were to 'capture' a booth, you would need several hours to cast all the votes, in which time the police or central forces can respond, voters can complain etc.

We are doing our country a huge disservice by casting doubt on the EVM process, particularly the VVPAT EVMs.

Christian alone doesn't imply a non-BJP vote in KL. Depends on what kind. The BJP candidate in Ernakulam is someone named KJ Alphonse, though he is not a political heavyweight there. EKM has long been KV Thomas' home constituency though he didn't compete this time.

This is understandable.. Most atrocities on Dalits happen from powerful OBC castes and jihadi types, so they dont want to vote their tormentors into power. On the flip side, powerful OBC castes dont want to vote for dalit candidates.. they would rather vote for their caste candidate from BJP. All of these equations go for a toss when it comes to younger voters though.. They are open minded and nationalistic.

When the four states were won by Congress in 2018, there was no cries of EVM.
All these folks were on the stage when HD Cryswamy was sworn in as Karnataka CM.
Then there was no EVM doubts.
Now that Naidu is losing he is doubting EVM.
And alleging Russian hacking just like Hillary Clinton.
And gathering others like loser Fox around him.
I suggest its situational doubt.
And for well read people to continue to support such doubts is sad and they might consider this is not the platform for them.

You have provided no evidence whatsoever in any of your posts to make the kind of grave allegations you believe in. Stay off these conspiracy theories on the forum. Over the past several years, we have seen that this entire charade of EVM outrage only conveniently occurs when any party suddenly discovers that results may not have gone in its favour. Meanwhile, there is no credible evidence of the EC deliberately helping any party, either the BJP or its opponents. At worst, they have been unable to prevent intimidation of voters who were voting BJP, and even so the BJP does not allege that the EC is being run by its enemy.

Please stop making these wild allegations or otherwise we will be forced to issue a warning and ban you for a duration, to the point you may miss this entire election discussion. This is not the first time you have been requested to stop dragging your pet peeves into a discussion.

Your choice, kindly consider.
Fair enough. No one can prove with *direct* evidence on BJP (or INC before 2014) acting with EC. I can send evidences to you on the EC decisions which are not neutral and bad election conduct and conducting as it will drag into AP-specific discussions which is also banned here.

This discussion happened here before. Lets be clear none of those claims which you provided would stand up in any court of law or reasoned debate, as being proof of a consistent EC policy, on behalf of any party. Which is why you were asked to stop. No more please.

I already stopped saying I can provide evidences to Karan. Don't call troll as that topic (EVM/EC) has been going on for 4-5 pages before I joined.

BTW, is there a way to post messages only to moderaters so I don't need to post clarification or proof messages.

We are missing Dilbu here. My only worry is that there can be a vote split among the angry Hindu voters between an okay secular INC candidate and the BJP candidate. In Thrissur constituency the commies fielded an X'ian chap hoping that X'ian votes+hard core commie votes would go for him. And the Angry Hindu votes would get split between Gopi Saar & TN Prathapan (of INC).

There is a strong rumour that the Nair community; a strong vote base of Trivandrum supported Kummanam Rajashekharan of the BJP this time. K.R has a much more clean image than Tharoor, and K.R is also quite vocal on Hindu issues. Tharoor also messed up a campaign meeting held at a fish market; where his English comments were mis-read by the 100% literate Malayali. It was as if Tharoor found the fish market to be a smelly & dirty place; but kind of went there hoping to get votes. Some disgruntled Congress leaders also "condemned" Tharoor over such remarks; which reinforced that Tharoor had made such nasty statements.

Karan M wrote:Over the past several years, we have seen that this entire charade of EVM outrage only conveniently occurs when any party suddenly discovers that results may not have gone in its favour
When it comes to EVMs chances of hacking it is pretty much impossible.
1. EVMs are not connected to any network and are stand alone machines.
2. The issue of EVMs to a polling booth is at random; even though once issued their numbers are tracked to the polling booth level.
3. There are at least three levels of checking (and sealing, using different coloured tapes) done by the Presiding officer on the EVM Machine. On each of it the Presiding officer signs and the representatives of candidates also counter sign. At any stage they can refuse to counter sign if they are in doubt.
4. Then mock polling is done for at least 50 votes. Again this is also recorded and statement and signatures of polling agents taken.
5. The presiding officer, polling officers, the police men on duty; are multiple set of people who are witnessing the working of EVM. There are also polling agents of each party. So it can only be a miracle that such wide selection of people all collude to do some thing on the EVM in order to tamper it. Please note; none of these people are highly technically qualified to do complex programming to chip sets.

But can this make the election process fool proof? No, but that is NOT the fault of the EVM.
1. In KL we saw a case of a person having three votes in three different booths. Which means that the voters list can be tampered. Voter list are prepared by people, and with no close supervision. It is often done by low level state level officers who are politically motivated. Election Commission relies a lot on the low level state govt. officials to get the documentation work done.
2. Making sure that the opponent voters don't come any where near the polling booth (like what was tried out in WB). The election commission depends upon state police machinery to draw up a list of "extra-sensitive", "sensitive" polling booths. Police bandobust schemes are then drawn up based on this. The election commission officials (many of them being IAS officials of state cadre) may be reviewing this, but they are not experts in police deployment. The central police forces, or police from neighbouring states are often only extra man power. The state police officers decide where they get posted and in what number.
3. Usual stuff like cash payment, liquor and any other form of inducements.

PS: Came back to say. In KL in a very pro-INC locality some one complained (after the machine polled 70+ votes); that any vote for Congress goes to BJP. The Election Commissioner immediately verified the truth after telling the petitioner that he would be arrested on the spot if the complaint is false. The complaint was false, and immediately similar complaints from other parts of KL were all taken back ;). The bluff of blaming the EVMs have been exposed, mainly because the usual whiners (from the "secular" camp) don't mention this in elections they win.

This was seen during the 2009 GE. With NAC and SG's parallel cabinet in full flow back then, MMS used to get called various uncharitable terms ranging from being a seat warmer on the milder end, to unprintable allegations about his masculinity. However, the voting population at large did not agree with this sentiment and they got an even stronger mandate. He was seen, despite his failings, as someone personally not 'bad' and doing work within the limitations he was placed within.

Not to imply Modi is another MMS, but the point is that similarly Modi is not seen as a venal crook himself (as Laloo or Tender Singh Yadav might be). He conveys the fact that he's a commoner risen to high stature who hasn't forgotten his roots, and isn't doing it to enrich himself or his own blood, but for the country. The support for this can be hard to convey, but calling him a thief and other kinds of names, can be a spectacular own goal in this context. Personally I'd rather let such people be useful idiots by calling Modi more and more names.

This was posted in the economy thread: Direct benefit transfer of subsidies crosses ₹3-lakh-cr mark in 2018-19
Direct benefit transfer of subsidies in cash and kind crossed the ₹3-lakh crore mark in 2018-19 to 123.8 crore beneficiaries through over 351-crore transactions.

Official data reveals that DBT in both cash and kind amounted to ₹3,06,260 crore last fiscal, a 60 per cent jump from ₹1,90,870.9 crore in 2017-18.

A significant chunk of the increase is due to the launch of DBT in fertiliser where ₹39,230.64 crore was transferred in 2018-19.
123.8 crore is almost the entire population. Of course, this number is due to double counting, but that emphasizes how many beneficiaries are getting multiple benefits now. Crossreferencing against PMJDY figures, there are 35 crore account holders, which suggests a ~4:1 ratio of DBT benefits per account holder. That's four different things people were squeezed out of being able to easily obtain in the past, that they now can, PLUS additional benefits like Swachh Bharat toilet program, electricity, where DBT is not involved but public goods and services are still being delivered to the population.

Yes. But where they get deployed, how they get deployed are decided by the state police only. The state election commission (state cadre IAS) is certainly aware of the report which the state police (state cadre IPS). Even the classification of the sensitivity of each booth is generally done by the Special Branch folks. In Kerala for this election a contingent of Maharashtra Special Police was dispatched. But they were only used as armed man power to be deployed at polling booths. They actually did not have any great control on the people or the polling process. There were no booths with the security only with them. Then there were also "striker parties" (platoon level armed police) placed under command of Dy.SPs, SPs and DIGs. Again how they were moved or placed was all decided by these very officials. We also cases of a State Election Commissioner dictating terms on what could be the "campaign material" permitted in the state. And a bigger political party, openly releasing a manifesto in another state clearing using the same "campaign material" ;). What I mean to say is that with a major part of the "Election Commission" staff being deputation-ists from the state government machinery some kind of manipulation (eg: in voter rolls) is possible. In heavily politicised states things may not be 100% neutral is what I feel. But such schemes generally do not get decided on the day of elections, it is done earlier. Then every state government also tries to do "gerrymandering".

Sachin, Thanks once again.
Kerala is not considered high risk state.

Early one Phase I& II, CRPF were deployed with State police guidance.
However after booth capturing and violence at booths EC has deployed the CRPF on their own accord.

So its a mix of both models based on milieu in the state which are going through elections.

Folks all generalizations are general.

Modiji's free-lance supporters are his strength between 2014 and 2019

Ahsaas* means Feeling in Urdu. I think it is a Urdu word. Hindi one will be Abhaas (and Kakkaji also pointed it out). Of course, Prarambhik Ahsaas means "Initial Feeling".

As a kid (and I am sure so many others here) would use discarded chalk stubs (and to be honest, when get a chance a new chalk stick) to whiten their white canvas shoes. Best would be to rinse the shoes in bucket of water and then use chalk over it.

I was blessed that I could get hand me downs and sometimes new ones as well (college was a relief, since I can use the same chappal/shoes years till it could not be fixed). And looking at others, I considered myself very fortunate.

But when Modi expressed the above, elite gadflys from CONgoon had to mock it!

https://www.opindia.com/2019/04/robert- ... dias-poor/
Robert Vadra’s relative mocks Modi’s memories, exposes why Congress could never understand needs of India’s poor
The elitist mindset of Congress leaders conditions their thought process so much that a simple act of a poor child's attempt to make his shoes look whiter and newer draws their disdain and mockery.

APRIL 24, 2019
Tehseen Poonawalla mocks people for using chalks to clean their shoes
Congress Supporter Tehseen Poonawalla (Source: Firstpost)

In the scorching heat of the election season, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was seen sharing some memories about his personal life and experiences in a conversation with the versatile Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar. Modi recounted how his belonging to a modest background, his hard work as a Gujarat CM and unwavering dedication to the country has played a crucial role in preparing him to assume the office of Prime Minister.

@ANI
#WATCH PM Modi during interaction with Akshay Kumar, talks about his fashion style, says being careful about his appearance could possibly be psychological reaction to an inferiority complex he felt growing up poor

In one of the instances in the interview, Modi shares that being from a poor family, he was possibly conditioned to give a psychological reaction to an inferiority complex he felt growing up poor. He explained how he used to wait back after his classes got over and collect the residual chalk pieces that the teacher threw away and use them to whiten his dirty canvas shoes. He also said how he invented an ingenious method to press his clothes with the help of a container in his house and pouring in hot coal in it as his family couldn’t afford the iron.

However, Robert Vadra’s entitled relative Tehseen Poonawalla took this opportunity to ridicule PM Modi’s childhood memories and the travails he faced. Poonawalla derided PM’s explanation of how he cleaned his canvas shoes with the help of chalks claiming that a wet cloth could have been used instead for cleaning the shoes. In addition to this, Poonawalla also took a jibe at PM Modi’s erstwhile profession by claiming that he could have used detergent used for washing ‘chai’ dishes to clean his shoes.

Tehseen Poonawalla
@tehseenp
One has to be a really DUMB kid to "clean" white canvas shoes with CHALK!
All you could have done is wet a cloth & use the detergent, used for washing 'chai' dishes..But then he complicated stuff from childhood, did nonsense & called it creativity ! Just like #Demonetisation
One has to see their elitism and the mockery they make of the underclass and the subalterns and their beliefs. Hence CONgoon Mukt Bharat is great personal goal for me as well.

Rahul has given up this election. His advisors have worked hard to misguide him.

Not limited to Mallustan I think. Although I knew ahsaas because it is commonly used in spoken Hindi, I still have no clue what Muqaddar means  You can put that down to Bollywood habit of inserting chaste Urdu everywhere. Even most of their songs today have heavy dose of either Punjabi or Urdu which leads you to question who is the intended audience.

Will stop there before Ramana guru wields the danda for going OT.

So everything is the fault of "advisors" now! Pappu himself can never be faulted for anything of course.

Rahul Gandhi gave up in the first phase itself. He is mostly relying on state leaders abilities to bump INC seats. He has strong leaders worthy of pulling seats may be in 5-6 states . Good achievement, however, if INC gets more than 60, then he can be Legal opposition leader this time at least. :D. Any more seats he can be qualified to throw kerchief on PM seat, like people throw in reserving bus seats when red bus arrives.
