Do you mean CPI or CPI(M)? I know both of them are useless and irrelevant in national politics. But if it is CPI - Communist Party of India, it is a bit more suspicious. This party with D @ Daniel Raja as the top man at present has one MP in Lok Sabha. Their party is one which has more leaders than cadre. Yet if they can pull some thing against the CJI means that they are aided & abetted by more actors behind the scenes. The CPI(M) - Communist Party of India (Marxist) is slightly better placed with other-wise jobless people like Yechuri and Carrot driving the show.

calling for an "open" inquiry by a nonjudicial group of "intellectuals", meaning that they want a trial by media and tv debates

In a way this is good. Hizzoners should know what "trial by media" is like. Otherwise mediocre fellows wearing a coat and tie who act like magistrates in the 9PM TV News shows, perhaps would face the wrath of Hizzoners. This "intellectual" cabal should be the next pick for being exposed. The Bhaiwood gangs and assorted classical musical singers, nautanki-wallahs have already been exposed.

four local media entities coordinated the attack on the CJI as far as the accusations go.

the actual charge against the CJI was filed many months ago but it is unfathomable as to why its resolution did not see the light of day as far some semblance of an investigation was concerned. why the delay

some primed people are quoting the hearings in kavanaugh case in the US but that guy was only up for nomination to the SC and was not a sitting US SC judge at the time.

Isn't the CPI(M) is more networked with offshore subterranean entities as well as the commie parties of many gora countries

He will probably vote in Delhi. Nothing unusual in that. IIRC you don’t have to be a resident of the constituency you represent

How would you rate this psephologist Sanjay Kumar: https://twitter.com/sanjaycsds?lang=en

I do find him quite thoughtful and not usually bombastic making wild claims either way. But I don't know his track record. Before the elections began, he was clearly giving edge to BJP/NDA, but after polling started especially after phase 4, he seems to be changing his tone a bit and predicting some mojo for thugbandhan.

Now that the worst is over for hurricane Fani, so it may not be heartless now to ask as to who came out ahead? Naveen babu or ModiJi. Both were statesmanlike in working together and addressing media. But gut is that Fani took some sting off the anti-Naveen momentum in favor of BJP. Or is it the case that it didn't mater as the polling for Orissa was already completed before Fani. Can't recall.

I’m not in a position to answer your question because I’m not treating psephologists as relatively better or worse jyotishts. They are simply sources of ground level data or sentiment . As such, variety is good . Conclusive positions halfway in - like PP is doing - doesn’t provide useful insight .

‘This guy is good - he predicted right last time’ is useless information to me . What they asked, who they asked , when they asked, how many they asked , how they asked , are things that matter to me .

Added: to expand further - 'what they asked' is what questions were specifically asked. 'who they asked' is multiple things - both the specific voting demographic and where it was asked. E.g. was it a popular corner store where people often congregate to talk shop, or someplace else ? 'When' refers to at what point of election process. Sometimes multiple times are good to see shifts in sentiment. 'How they were asked' matters because it is a gauge of honesty; people don't really speak honestly on live TV with a mic in their faces, while standing in line to vote. The best moments are when a group of people are encouraged to chat with a few seeded questions in an informal social setting, and then one listens to what each is telling the other.

Almost 30 yrs ago, family members were invited to view a video of the shootings of kar-sevaks by Tender Singh's police in the Ayodhya events in 1990. The video was shot secretly and was also screened in secrecy for a few people in Delhi. I was told it showed the victims being shot in the head and bodies dragged around. The brutality with which these poor folk were gunned down and their bodies defiled was very difficult to watch as per family reports. People were treated worse than cattle and yet there was no national outrage and no mainstream reporting. That was the day many in Delhi decided to become BJP supporters.

In comparison, Murli Manohar Joshi had 'conspiracy charges associated with Babri Mosque demolition' restored upon him in mid 2017 by hizzoners at SC, same year he got Padma Vibhushan. Must be the only PV awardee so blessed.

Agree Saar. There is so much buried in the annals of history, one can only hope these and many other issues come out slowly.

One of my hobbies is to scan through Wikileaks cables for content on India. The Dalals at Congress appear very often. For example,
https://wikileaks.org/plusd/cables/1975 ... 031_b.html

1. SWEDISH EMBOFF HAS INFORMED US THAT MAIN INDIAN NEGOTIATOR
WITH SWEDES ON VIGGEN AT NEW DELHI END HAS BEEN MRS. GANDHI'S
OLER SON, RAJIV GANDHI. LATTER'S ONLY ASSOCIATION WITH
AIRCRAFT INDUSTRY (TO OUR KNOWLEDGE) HAS BEEN AS PILOT
FOR INDIAN AIRLINES AND THIS IS FIRST TIME WE HAVE HEARD
HIS NAME AS ENTREPRENEUR.

2. SWEDISH EMBOFF SAYS THAT DASSAULT HAS SON-IN-LAW
OF INDIAN AIR MARSHALL MEHRA AS ITS CHIEF NEGOTIATOR FOR
MIRAGE SALE.
MRS. GANDHI (ACCORDING TO SWEDISH INFO) HAS MADE PERSONAL DECI-

SION NOT TO PURCHASE BRITISH JAGUAR BECAUSE OF HER PREJUDICES
AGAINST BRITISH. DECISION WOULD BE BETWEEN MIRAGE AND VIGGEN. THE
SWEDISH DIPLOMAT SAID THAT SWEDEN'S NEUTRAL POSITION IN WORLD POLI-
TICS IS OFFSETTING VIGGEN'S HIGHER COST. HE EXPRESSED
IRRITATION AT THE WAY MRS. GANDHI IS PERSONALLY DOMINATING NE-
GOTIATIONS, WITHOUT INVOLVEMENT OF INDIAN AIR FORCE OFFICERS.

3. ACCORDING TO SWEDISH EMBOFF, NEGOTIATIONS WITH SWEDES ARE
FOR 50 VIGGEN AIRCRAFT TO BE DELIVERED AT $4-5 MILLION PER
AIRCRAFT* SWEDES BELIEVE INDIANS HAVE MADE DECISION NOT TO
PURCHASE ANY MORE SOVIET MILITARY AIRCRAFT.

4. DAO COMMENT: DAO HAS NO ADDITIONAL INFORMATION TO EITHER
REFUTE OR CONFIRM THE ABOVE INFORMATION.

BSP and SP are confident that their alliance is ahead in UP.

'Frustrated' BJP trying to create fissures in SP-BSP alliance: Mayawati

"The BJP is frustrated and is trying to create fissures in the alliance," she said, claiming that the joint candidates of the alliance were way ahead of the saffron party nominees in the four phases of polling that has concluded so far.

"Since the formation of the SP-BSP-RLD alliance, the BJP is facing an unprecedented crisis. It is suffering from a stomach ache and it will not be able to get it cured in the future also," Mayawati had said.

"The language of the prime minister has changed as in every phase (of the polls), the BJP is trailing. It is unable to find a way out. The PM only wants to misguide the voters.

"I would like to tell the BJP that the SP-BSP-RLD alliance will decide as to who will form the next government and who will be the new prime minister," he had said on Sunday.

Correct Odisha finished polling on 29 April in 4th Phase.

it would be nice if people were clued into the phases which is there in the first page of this thread....

It has the states and the number of seats in each Phase.

In 1977 until midnight AIR and DD were being neutral about Mrs. Gandhi's prospects even though the BBC had reported she was trailing. And the Indian mind was to distrust them and wait for DD to report it. Around 1:00 am next night they started saying she was losing Rae Bareli.
Such was her power.
Now we are hearing from many pollsters with reputation at stake and we want to disbelieve them!!!
Such is the Congress system power even now.
Despite RaGa time and again showing he is a Pappu.

Earlier, Varun Gandhi had said that those who are contesting against his mother were the ones who used to tie his shoelaces. The reference was to the BSP candidate Chandra Bhadra Singh aka Sonu Singh and his brother Yash Bhadra Singh.

Sonu Singh was a staunch Varun Gandhi loyalist when he held the Sultanpur seat, but is now an alliance candidate.

In yet another controversy, Varun lashed out at the Yadav clan of the Samajwadi Party.

"Till about 10-15 years ago, these people were making cow dung cakes in Saifai and today they are travelling in cars worth crores. Whose money is this? Is it not public money?" he asked.

I find it interesting that it is Mayawati saying it. Last I checked, she and Akhilesh are a team. So why don't they stand together and zor se say it ? I think we know why - BSP is the weaker party here, and SP and INC are trying to marginalize Basapa long term. Already, we have videos showing SaPa goons ripping off Basapa flags at MGB rallies. Even Sagarika Ghose and Barking Dutt are refering to 'lack of enough enthusiasm between SP and BSP leadership'.

When the weaker party of an alliance blames the opponent for 'trying to cause fissures', there's more to it than meets the eye...

Chandrachud Note On CJI’s Sexual Harassment Case Shows SC In Poor Light
by R Jagannathan May 06, 2019, 3:31 pm

Justice D Y Chandrachud’s intervention in the sexual harassment case against CJI Ranjan Gogoi shows how divided the Supreme Court is.

Justice Chandrachud, who will become Chief Justice himself in 2022, has written to the panel, headed by the next Chief Justice, S A Bobde, that it should not proceed ex-parte following the withdrawal of the complainant from the proceedings. Among other things, the Bobde panel, which includes Justices Indira Banerjee and Indu Malhotra, declined to video-record the proceedings or allow the complainant to have her lawyer Vrindra Grover present while being questioned.

The problem is not with Justice Chandrachud’s views, but the attempt to create a controversy by leaking the letter written to Justice Bobde and embarrassing the court. That the Supreme Court has no real mechanism to deal with such cases, leave alone allegations of other kinds of judicial misconduct, is obvious, but should a sitting judge be virtue-signalling his disagreements with the Bobde panel by leaking the letter either directly or indirectly?

Chandrachud Note On CJI’s Sexual Harassment Case Shows SC In Poor Light

Chandrachud Note On CJI’s Sexual Harassment Case Shows SC In Poor Light

by R Jagannathan-May 06, 2019,

Snapshot
Justice D Y Chandrachud’s intervention in the sexual harassment case against CJI Ranjan Gogoi shows how divided the Supreme Court is.

It is extremely worrisome that many of the court’s internal battles are now being fought in the harsh glare of media publicity.

The intervention by Justice D Y Chandrachud in the probe by a three-judge panel set up to investigate complaints of sexual harassment levelled by a woman against Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi shows how divided a house the current Supreme Court is.

Reports today (6 May) suggest that Justice Chandrachud, who will become Chief Justice himself in 2022, has written to the panel, headed by the next Chief Justice, S A Bobde, that it should not proceed ex-parte following the withdrawal of the complainant from the proceedings.

Getting aggressive lawyers like Grover to be part of the proceedings means the details of the Bodbe panel’s hearings face the risk of more leaks, regardless of whether the Chief Justice is guilty of any misconduct or not. Justice Chandrachud’s leaked letter makes it near impossible for the Bobde panel to have much credibility unless the outcome is against the CJI. This is no way to ensure fairness and justice. This also means that Justice Bobde will start his career as CJI later this year with this cloud over his head.

It is extremely worrisome that many of the court’s internal battles are now being fought in the harsh glare of media publicity. Consider the following events since 2017.

In early 2017, a suicide note penned by former Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Kalikho Pul, was widely in circulation, embarrassing the highest court. Among other things, the note talked about the bribes being paid or sought by various judges, including the then Chief Justice J S Khehar.

In January 2018, four judges of the Supreme Court, including the current Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, addressed a press conference claiming that the then CJI, Dipak Misra, was setting up benches arbitrarily. Among other things, they seemed to want a probe into the death of Judge B H Loya, who was hearing a case against Amit Shah. The Chief Justice had taken the case away from Justice J Chelameswar’s court, and assigned it to another bench. But after the new CJI Gogoi took over, no significant change has been made in how cases are allotted. It is the CJI who remains master of the roster. The presser made no difference to how the court conducts itself. So was the presser just much ado about nothing?

In April last year, a bench headed by CJI Misra, but with the judgement written by Justice Chandrachud, rubbished the demand for a probe into Judge Loya’s death. The demand for the probe was clearly political since it involved Amit Shah’s case, but as soon as the Loya judgment came, the Congress party moved a motion of impeachment against the CJI – which failed as the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, Venkaiah Naidu, rejected the motion of impeachment as wanting in substance. The impeachment case had political intent written all over it.

In an interview after retiring last June, Justice Chelameswar confessed that judges can be politically influenced, and talked darkly about Rs 1 crore lawyers.

Last November, when the current CJI took over, he immediately postponed hearings in the Ram temple title dispute, even though the previous CJI had promised speedy hearings. And the new bench, which includes Justice Bobde, has sent the case for a potential out-of-court resolution. If no deal is announced, the case will resume in the Supreme Court, nine years after an appeal was first made against an Allahabad High Court judgement of 2010. It seems obvious that the court did not want to start hearings when a high-decibel election process was on.

Last month, when a former employee made allegations of sexual harassment against CJI Ranjan Gogoi, he alleged a conspiracy to defang the judiciary. The Bobde panel has taken note of his allegation and directed a probe into this possibility. Is it any job of the court to direct investigations without reference to the executive?

Last week, another petition, by Harsh Mander, asked the CJI to recuse himself from a case involving the treatment of illegal immigrants in Assam and their detention. He was removed as petitioner for questioning the CJI’s integrity in dealing with this sensitive issue.

And now we have a sitting judge, and future CJI, making his views on how the sexual harassment case against the CJI should be handled by a judge who will succeed Ranjan Gogoi as CJI.

Do these instances indicate a higher judiciary that is confident in its own credibility and fearlessly administering justice to one and all?

You be the judge.

There are only 27 seats remaining to be polled in UP. However, this corresponds to a post poll alliance between the MGB and INC. The horse trading has begun and all attempts will be made to keep the NDA out even if they fall short of 272 by just 5-6 seats.

The Supreme Court on Sunday issued a clarification denying that Justices DY Chandrachud and Rohinton Nariman met Justice SA Bobde, who is one of the members of a committee investigating sexual harassment allegations against Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi.

The Indian Express had reported earlier in the day that Chandrachud and Nariman met the inquiry panel – comprising Justices SA Bobde, Indira Banerjee and Indu Malhotra – on May 3 to express their concerns.

In a press release, Supreme Court Secretary General Sanjeev Kalgaonkar called the report “most unfortunate”, according to Bar and Bench. “The in-house committee which is deliberating on the issue concerning honourable chief justice of India deliberates on its own without any input from any other honourable judge of this court,” he added.

Modi/Shah have left these people to their whims/fancies hoping they would behave but obviously these guys won't
