Global peace index: Pakistan slips by two points - Waqas Ahmed

GLOBAL PEACE INDEX 2019
ISLAMABAD: As the world marks the International Peace Day, it appears that Pakistan has not been able to improve much on the peace front.
According to a report by an international think tank, Pakistan has slipped by two points in an annual global index on peacefulness, finishing at 153 among 163 countries. Rank 153 Pakistan 3.072 VERY LOW
With the overall trends showing signs of improvement for Pakistan in some areas, neighboring India slipped by four points in the annual global index on peacefulness this year, finishing at 141 among 163 countries. The recent annexation of Kashmir and the increase in state-sponsored violence in the occupied territory has tainted India’s reputation. Rank 141 India - SCORE 2.605 – LOW

Pakistan attempts to sabotage Howdy, Modi event in US
Notifications alerting a spell of mushrooming anti-Modi protests in Houston under different names have started to surface. Several messages and e-vites for anti-Modi protests on Sunday are also being shared on social media.
Ankit Kumar, New Delhi, September 20, 2019
As Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to address his first-ever joint public rally with US President Donald Trump at Houston, Texas, individuals and groups closely associated with the Pakistani government are trying hard to ruin Modi’s gala event.
Notifications alerting a spell of mushrooming anti-Modi protests in Houston under different names have started to surface. Several messages and e-vites for anti-Modi protests on Sunday are also being shared on social media.
A careful analysis of these messages reveal that most of these protests are being organised with help of the elements from Pakistan, some of them are closely associated with the ruling political party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and its leader Imran Khan.
Consider this post on Facebook for example; it’s a message showing a last-minute change in the free pick up locations for the protestors who would gather in Houston to stage a demonstration against Modi-Trump public meeting on Sunday. This message was posted from the purported official account of Fayaz Kahlil who has a following of over 50,000 people on his page. His introduction according to his social media profiles is "Founder Member of PTI Youth wing". He even has a picture of himself sitting with the Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan. The common routes, contact numbers and names of organiser on the leaflets indicate that one anti-India event is being publicised with different names such as "Unwelcome Modi", "Kashmir Rally" and "IHF Modi Protest" to make it look like several protests are being organised by diverse groups.
Consider this for a moment; this leaflet published by a pro-Khalistan account under the banner of "Go Back Modi" has names and contact details of a woman named Ghazala Habib, president of Friends of Kashmir organisation. Habib is a resident of Georgetown, USA but also flies to attend dinner meetings in England, organised by Association of Pakistani lawyers. That’s not all; her Facebook profile also flaunts pictures of her meetings with former Pak ambassador to the US, Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry.

Terror allegations were hurtful but we will not be deterred: Mohsin Dawar - Dawn.com

MNA Mohsin Dawar following his release from jail on Saturday, took to Twitter to express his continued "zeal and enthusiasm" in countering what he claimed was "state oppression", saying that although the "allegation of violence against us was hurtful [...] it will not deter us from our path, which is the path of non-violence".

Dawar — along with MNA Ali Wazir — had been named in a police report following a clash in May between PTM members and Army personnel near the Kharqamar check post in North Waziristan, which had resulted in multiple deaths and injuries.

PTM is a rights-based alliance that, besides calling for the de-mining of the former tribal areas and greater freedom of movement in the latter, has insisted on an end to the practices of extrajudicial killings, enforced disappearances and unlawful detentions, and for their practitioners to be held to account within a truth and reconciliation framework.

Dawar was booked under various charges, including murder, attempted murder, terrorism and interference in official affairs and subsequently jailed in June.

The MNA, terming the incident as a "tragedy", said it would go down in history as an example of the "state's brutal response to peaceful protest".

He alleged that the state had "piled up even more violations of human rights and decency" in how it had treated him and Wazir.

"The most hurtful in all of this was the allegation of violence against us preachers of non-violence.
But all of this will not deter us from our goal, which is to win peace and equal rights for our people and it will also not deter us from our path, which is the path of non-violence," he asserted.

The member of parliament emphasised that jail was but a small price and that "we are willing to lay our lives for our people".

Dawar also thanked "all those who raised their voice" for their release. "There are too many names but one that I must mention is [Bilawal Bhutto Zardari] for his unwavering support both in and out of parliament."

Take a look: Bilawal reiterates demand for production orders for MNAs Mohsin Dawar, Ali Wazir

"Ours is a long struggle, and it is not only for the benefits of Pashtuns but for every victim of state oppression in this country. Pakistan's biggest weakness is the silence of its good people. This status quo will end only when when enough good people speak up," he said, calling upon people to not remain bystanders.

On Wednesday, the Bannu bench of the high court headed by Justice Nasir Mehfooz had conditionally accepted bail petitions of the MNAs on the condition of furnishing two surety bonds of Rs1 million each. The court directed the two lawmakers to appear before a relevant police officer once a month and barred them from travelling out of the country.

Pakistan 'least qualified' to criticise India on Kashmir: Shashi Tharoor – PTI

PUNE: Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on Saturday said Pakistan is the "least qualified" country to criticise India on the Kashmir issue, especially in view of its own record in PoK.

Speaking at the Pune International Literary Festival, the Lok Sabha MP from [b]Kerala also said differences between political parties do not matter when it comes to foreign policy.

"I would like to send an implicit message outside. We may have differences within our country but when it comes to India's interest, it is not BJP's foreign policy nor is it Congress' foreign policy. It is the Indian foreign policy," Tharoor asserted.

He had the right to criticise the (Union) government on Jammu and Kashmir as to the treatment meted out to the people and elected representatives of that state, he said.

"I will continue to attack the government on domestic issues, but when it comes to the international position, I feel Pakistan is the least qualified country to criticise India on Kashmir issue. Look at what they have done to PoK (Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir)," he said.

Talking about his own transition from international diplomat to politician, the Congress leader said earlier he got "preferential treatment" , but now the "protective ring" has been removed, adding that he has had many "tests by fire".

He used to interact with "real people" when he first took to social media, but now 95 per cent people on social media are "abusers", he said.

"There is a mafia of abusers on social media and they will do everything to call me a murderer or declare me the reincarnation of Casanova," he said.

Talking about Narendra Modi, Tharoor said he must be given his due as a democratically elected prime minister.

"Whether we like his politics or not, nonetheless he is the democratically elected PM of the country and when he goes abroad, he is PM of India and he carries my flag. I want him to be received and treated with the respect due to my country's prime minister," he said.

By stating thus, he was not only showing respect for the institution of prime minister but also showing respect to the Indian voter, the Congress MP said.

Is Tharoor Mama slowly trying to edge sidewards into the BJP fold? Or has he burned his bridges? He would have a good career if he was in the right party. Sometimes when he makes excuses for the Gandhis and Cong, you can see it in his face that he knows he doesn't believe it himself.

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: At least four persons were killed and three others sustained injuries when a bloody clash erupted between the Dotani and Sherani tribes over the ownership of forest in Hasankhel area, police and hospital sources said on Friday.

As tension escalated between two tribes on the boundary of the districts of South Waziristan and Dera Ismail Khan, they resorted to exchange of fire. The clash left four persons dead and three others injured, said an official. However, the cops led by District Police Officer Dilawar Bangash managed to effect ceasefire between the rival tribes. The sources said the Dotani tribe of South Waziristan and Sherani tribe of Darazinda tehsil of the erstwhile Frontier Region Dera Ismail Khan had been running a dispute over the ownership of a forest in Hasankhel area. In view of the escalating tension, the district administrations of South Waziristan and Dera Ismail Khan have started efforts to normalise the situation. “The deputy commissioners of Dera Ismail Khan and South Waziristan are all set to convene a jirga of local elders to solve the issue,” said an official.

Reminds me of the famous NSN report that started it all

I don't think so. He is setting himself up as an alternate 'nationalist' candidate. He can garner more votes than pappu and definitely will have a substantial influence on the urban vote. Especially, the youth.

Need to keep an eye. He is definitely an alternate for CONgress. MMS 2.

He's merely capitalising on the Kerala caucus of Congress that sent more MP's into LS than any other state. They're quite miffed at not being offered any front bench seats.

He is exactly opposite of MMS. Too full of himself to be a robot. He has no following within congress and no following among masses beyond metro dwelling liberal urban elite. For Kerala he will lose election if he fight on his own without a congress ticket.

he's not in the queen's good books.

She doesn't like the flamboyant, confident and popular types who can and will outshine pappu and pappi.

he has no mass base and no strong backers plus major drawback is his eye for the ladies, the very same drawback that financially killed mallaya towards the end when the queen cut him loose.

politically a lightweight, all sizzle and no steak.

Muslims in India luckier than those in Islamic countries: Mark Tully – PTI

NEW DELHI: Muslims in India are "much luckier" than those in the Islamic countries as they can worship in any Islamic tradition, says veteran journalist Mark Tully.

Citing an example, he says that in Delhi's Nizamuddin area, where he resides, there is theTablighi Jamaat's headquarters and they are “very strict and orthodox”.

Next to it, there is the Sufi tradition where people pray at the tomb of Nizamuddin Auliya and sing qawwalis, he adds.

“India's spirit of tolerance is its strength which makes a harmonious environment for different religions to exist side by side, ” Tully is quoted as saying in the latest issue of The Equator Line magazine. The issue is titled “Home and The World”.

According to Tully, India is “unique and is home to all the religions, well almost”.

“India has spirituality. As of now these religions are varied themselves. Muslims in India are much luckier than Muslims in the Islamic countries because in India they can worship in any Islamic tradition” he says.

Also in the issue is a piece by Tim Grandage, a Briton who came to Kolkata 32 years ago as a banking officer. He later gave up his job to set up a charity called Future Hope to work for slum children.

Grandage says he learnt a lot from these children.

“The value of trust, care, opportunity, commitment, and of tolerance, of talking to others and listening too, of seeing a glass as half full and not half empty.”

There are also essays by Bhaskar Chakravorti, dean of global business at The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University; US based psychiatrist Reshma Hingorani; consultant and former UN staffer Sarthi Acharya and writer and television producer Jad Adams among others.

In the editorial, Bhaskar Roy writes that the real challenge for India is to “go out meet the world upfront occupying as much space as our talent and capability permit, and also to restore and recover the back-end from the abysmal chaos and dysfunction”.

He says the 21st century India needs to “navigate its anarchy and flaws to recover what has been already laid waste”.

It’s also shows how Pakis have no sense of izzat. IK promised he would fly commercial instead of PIA jets, but then happily jumped on a Saudi Royal jet to go to US when offered. No self respect!

Besides, He doesn’t realize there are no free lunches in international relations. Saudi will extract its pound of flesh for every minute of free private jet - similar to how it enlisted Pak in a military alliance without even asking it. :rotfl:

The following thoughts crossed my mind
1) The bus accident happened in BALAKOT and according to reports, many TSP Soldiers died.
2) I am thinking the will use this accident to recognize the soldiers that died on Feb 26
3) The news also was slipped in conveniently when all of India was focused on Howdy Modi and Potus

Soros can't influence the WB/IMG or FATF nor his economic advice suit the bakis. He personally can't do much to help bakis with money 'cos he is not rich enough to bankroll the bakis.

That can only mean that bakis are trying to get him to use his "Open society" back media network and media reach to further baki propaganda against India.

Soros does have some leverage with media in US and globally but why will he put that in the service of the bakis? What is in it for Soros?

TOI Exclusive: Pakistan has delivered on only 6 points of 27-point action plan prepared by FATF to help it escape ‘blacklisting’. It has seized 900 properties — mostly madrasas and no active terror facilities — but not registered cases against owners or identified funding source

High chance of getting blacklisted by FATF. As someone commented on twitter, Dimran will rave and rant against India for public consumption back home BUT his main agenda is to get relief on FATF.

It's better for us if they stay on the grey list. Being on the blacklist would be disastrous for them but better for the sword to continue dangling over their head. Either way, good for us.

Not sure why, especially because they kicked out soros charities from bakistan in 2017 for espionage(real reason soros is a Jew). Seems soros wants in again.

Soros has been funding the new age liberals, sjws and assorted globalists. He is one of the prime movers with regards to bringing in all the assorted immigrants into Europe etc.

He funds all these extreme left wing media groups like Young Turks etc. And without fail, they are ALL pro-islamists/apologists.

Now, connect the dots.

Pak close to being ‘blacklisted’ by Financial Action Task Force.

Pakistan appears to be falling grossly short of delivery on the 27-point action plan prepared by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) to help it escape ‘black listing’, with sources monitoring its actions against terror financing indicating that Islamabad has delivered on only six of the 27 points so far. ‘Black listing’ by FATF stands to choke Pakistan’s access to international finance.

Pakistan currently figures on the FATF ‘grey list’ and is up for a final review of its status at the FATF plenary meeting in Paris next month. The objectives of the Financial Action Task Force are to set standards and promote effective implementation of legal, regulatory and operational
measures for combating money laundering, terrorist financing and other related threats to integrity of the international financial system.

Sources monitoring Pakistan’s implementation of FATF action plan said Pakistan has located only five of the 100-plus UN designated terrorists currently said to be within its territory. The five include Lashkar-e-Taiba/Jamaat-ud-Dawah/Falah-i Insaniyat boss Hafiz Mohammad Saeed.

Saeed was arrested by Pakistani authorities in July on terror financing charges. He has been in custody since. As per reports coming from Pakistan, over 900 properties, including madrassas and dispensaries, have been seized for terror financing linkages. While 750 of these properties are allegedly linked to Falah-i-Insaniyat, 150 are associated with Jaish-eMohammad. However, Pakistan is yet to identify the source of funding behind the seized properties or register any case against their owners (How can Pakistan admit that ISI/Army funds the terrorists :rotfl: ) . Also, none of the properties seized are active terror facilities like armouries, weapons/explosbives dumps or terror training camps (All the terror facilities are intact).

As many as 23 terror funding cases were registered in July, one year after the FATF placed Pakistan on the grey list and asked it to deliver on a 27-point anti-terror financing plan to escape the blacklist. Nearly 65 active terrorists have been named in these cases.

While Pakistan is making some effort to be seen as tough on terror financing and money laundering, this may be well short of FATF’s standards and could leave Islamabad at a high risk of being blacklisted. Pakistan was given 15 months to get its act together on a host of issues. It has until October, before the FATF plenary meeting decides whether to keep it on the grey list or blacklist it.

The FATF presidency is Chinese. They will try to shield TSP as much as possible. Xiangmin Liu took over on 01 JUL 19 and will be in until 30 JUN 20. It is improbable TSP will get blacklisted at the same time the US is trying to get out of Afghanistan. They will continue on the grey list.

I'm not aware of *any* country that is actually blacklisted. The next FATF meeting is 13-18 OCT 19 in Paris.

The FATF strongly urges Pakistan to swiftly complete its action plan by October 2019 when the last set of action plan items are set to expire. Otherwise, the FATF will decide the next step at that time for insufficient progress.

Being the president does not mean the chinese can veto the move to black list the porkis. Pakistan will require 3 votes to avoid the black list which they have - China, Malaysia and Turkey.
