Pakistan’s request for funds for Hafiz Saeed a sign of transparency: U.S.
The United States says the UN Security Council’s decision to facilitate funds for designated terrorist Hafiz Saeed in Pakistan was actually a “welcome” step, as it shows that Pakistan is working towards greater accountability for its counter-terrorism efforts as part of its commitments at the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).

“It’s counter-intuitive, but this is actually a positive step,” U.S. Acting Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Alice Wells said in reply to a question from The Hindu.

“Countries are required under the obligations of the listings that for any UN designated individuals, you account for whatever money flow is permitted, such as the family expenses of Hafiz Saeed. So actually having these submissions indicates a level of transparency and a key requirement of FATF,"....
Prediction - Pakistan will not be blacklisted. The main issue is whether it remains on the grey list or not.

The bakis already have 3 votes (China, Turkey, Malaysia) needed to block blacklisting. Unless Malaysia defect there is little chance of blacklisting. Plus US might me willing to give them a further lifeline for
a. Taliban negotiation
b. Pacify Dimran for all his recent fire and brimstone while in the US.

OTOH, I think taking them off the grey-list should be much more difficult even while I don't know the exact procedure.
a. They haven't fulfilled 20 of the 27 points of compliance.
b. Seems that both upgrade and downgrade is setup like veto by 3. Just as 3 could veto downgrade, me thinks 3 could veto upgrade too. So an upgrade seems quite difficult.
c. Suits US to have bakistan under pressure.

The most likely case is that bakis stay on the Grey list.

India denounces Imran Khan's 'hate speech' and 'medieval mindset' as it accuses Pakistan of terrorism and nuclear blackmail - Chidanand Rajghatta | TNN

NEW YORK: Fielding a junior diplomat in its right of reply to Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan’s address to the United Nations, India mocked his angry presentation before the General Assembly on Friday as “hate speech” coming from a “medieval mindset” from a country that that has “monopolized the entire value chain of the industry of terrorism.”

First Secretary Vidisha Maitra of India’s External Affairs Minister conveyed New Delhi’s full fury on Saturday virtually calling Pakistan a terrorist state using evidence built up by the global community, after Khan had lit into India with a theatrical presentation centering on the Kashmir issue, including overwrought scenarios of massacres leading to nuclear war. “Prime Minister Imran Khan's threat of unleashing nuclear devastation, qualifies as brinksmanship, not statesmanship. Even coming from the leader of a country that has monopolized the entire value chain of the industry of terrorism, Khan's justification of terrorism was brazen and incendiary,” Maitra told the General Assembly, listing out the steps taken by the international community that has put Pakistan in the dock for its coddling of terror groups and terrorism

Asserting that the world will hold Imran Khan to his promise to invite UN observers to verify that there are no militant organisations in Pakistan, Maitra posed the following questions that Pakistan can respond to as a precursor to the proposed verification: Can Pakistan confirm the fact that it is home to 130 UN designated terrorists and 25 terrorist entities listed by the UN as of today? Will Pakistan acknowledge that it is the only government in the world that provides pension to an individual listed in the al-Qaida and Daesh sanctions list? Can Pakistan explain why here in New York, its premier bank - the Habib Bank - had to shut shop after it was fined millions of dollars over terror financing. Will Pakistan deny that the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) has put the country on notice for its violation of 20 of the 27 key parameters?

While affirmative answer to each of the questions is on record, Maitra sneeringly asked the Pakistan Prime Minister, dubbed “Taliban Khan” in his own country, whether he would deny to the city of New York that he was an open defender of Osama bin Laden.

The al-Qaida terrorist, who was hunted down by US Navy Seals in a Pakistani military garrison town, escaped to Pakistan after the 9/11 attack, which he planned with Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, who was also captured in Pakistan and renditioned to the US. Khan mendaciously claimed that Pakistan had nothing to do with 9/11, even though, besides bin Laden and Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, many of the 19 hijackers routinely transited through Pakistan and the Taliban regime which hosted al-Qaida was Pakistan's proxy regime. Imran Khan himself confirmed in New York that the Pakistan military trained al-Qaida before 9/11 and continued to maintain contact with it even after.

Speaking couple of hours before Imran Khan, India’s Prime Minister Modi steered clear of mentioning Pakistan in making a broader case about the dangers of terrorism in what Indian officials was an appropriate statesman like tone for a forum discussing global issues in a responsible manner. But Khan, after a meandering half-an-hour lashing out at the world for various ills afflicting Pakistan, settled on a vicious attack on India replete with what Indian officials said was selective citing of history and pop sociology while glossing over Pakistan's faultlines.

“What we heard today from Imran Khan was a callous portrayal of the world in binary terms. Us vs Them; Rich vs Poor; North vs South; Developed Vs Developing; Muslims vs Others. A script that fosters divisiveness at the United Nations. Attempts to sharpen differences and stir up hatred, are simply put - “hate speech,” Maitra said, noting that “Rarely has the General Assembly witnessed such misuse, rather abuse, of an opportunity to reflect.”

Words matter in diplomacy. Invocation of phrases such as pogrom”, “bloodbath”, “racial superiority”, “pick up the gun” and “fight to the end” reflect a medieval mindset and not a 21st century vision, she said, adding that “Khan's threat of unleashing nuclear devastation, qualifies as brinksmanship, not statesmanship.”

“Even coming from the leader of a country that has monopolized the entire value chain of the industry of terrorism, Prime Minister Khan's justification of terrorism was brazen and incendiary,” she said, describing the speech as bordering on crudeness.

In a withering response to Pakistan’s overwrought charges that there will be pograms and genocide against Muslims in India by a Nazi-inspired RSS following New Delhi’s decision to remove special status for Jammu and Kashmir, the Indian
representative referred to him by his full name (Imran Khan Niazi), ridiculed his “sketchy understanding of history,” and reminded him of the “gruesome genocide perpetrated by Pakistan against its own people in 1971, and the role played by Lieutenant General AAK Niazi - a sordid fact that the honourable Prime Minister of Bangladesh reminded this assembly about earlier this afternoon.”

The Pakistani military and its militias killed more than a million Bengali-speaking Muslims in what was then East Pakistan (which became Bangladesh) in an officially recognized genocide for which Islamabad has escaped responsibility
(other than losing half the country). The junior Indian diplomat appeared to be deliberately reminding Khan about his last name, which is the same as the general who surrendered to India with 93,000 Pakistani troops.

“Having mainstreamed terrorism and hate speech, Pakistan is trying to play its wild card as the newfound champion of human rights. This is a country that has shrunk the size of its minority community from 23% in 1947, to 3% today, and has subjected Christians, Sikhs, Ahmadias, Hindus, Shias, Pashtuns, Sindhis, and Balochis, to draconian blasphemy laws, systemic persecution, blatant abuse and forced conversions,” the Indian representative told the General Assembly.

Pakistan will get an opportunity to respond to India’s reply, followed by another round of exchanges, in what is expected to a slippery slope of tit-for-tat diplomatic skirmishes initiated by Islamabad. Already social media has been inflamed by
crude exchanges between keyboard warriors.

Although Pakistan put New Delhi on the defensive at the UN, Indian officials are confident that their narrative would eventually prevail as the unrest, which they say is restricted to a few districts in the Kashmir Valley, subsides. The officials said Imran Khan’s presentation and invoking of nightmare scenarios, including genocide and nuclear holocaust, bordered on the desperate, as if he was willing it to happen, since any return to normalcy would destroy Pakistan’s fevered narrative.

“Pakistan's virulent reaction to the removal of an outdated and temporary provision that was hindering development and integration of the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir stems from the fact that those who strive on conflict, never welcome the ray of peace. While Pakistan has ventured to upstream terrorism and downstream hate speech there, India has gone ahead with mainstreaming development in Jammu and Kashmir,” Maitra told the UN, reflecting New Delhi’s outlook.

“The mainstreaming of Jammu and Kashmir as well as Ladakh, in India's thriving and vibrant democracy, with a millennia-old heritage of diversity, pluralism, and tolerance is well and truly under way - irreversibly so. The citizens of India do not need anyone else to speak on their behalf, least of all those who have built an industry of terrorism from the ideology of hate,” she concluded.

I fully expect a rapid escalation of terrorist violence till it becomes quite hard to not do anything. Our messaging should be forthright, clear and aggressive from the get go. The GoI should do a full court press with the evidence that these losers came from Pakistan.. And demand that Pak take verifiable action immediately. Also, the dead bodies should not be given back, instead buried in the sea.

Interestingly all the three terrorists killed in Ramban encounter are locals as per some initial reports. Affliated with Hizbul Mujahideen.
While we have to be aggressive with bakistan we have to be careful too. Right now it is a high stakes game with Dimran's recent hysterics, etc.

Those histrionics are akin to, “ kutte bhonkte rahenge or haathi maze mein chalta jayiga”. These UN speeches have absolutely no affect or effect on the world at large. So don’t worry, have curry. In international affairs, jiski latthi uski bhens. All the histrionics are just that.

3 including central JUI-F leader dead as explosion rocks Chaman in Balochistan
https://www.dawn.com/news/1507830/3-inc ... alochistan
At least three people, including a leader of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), were killed and more than a dozen others injured in an explosion that rocked the Chaman area of Balochistan's Qilla Abdullah District, Chaman Assistant Commissioner Yasir Dashti said. According to police officials, the bomb was an improvised explosive device (IED) which was planted in a motorcycle parked on the roadside.

The explosion initially left Maulana Muhammad Hanif, a central leader of the JUI-F, critically injured. He was being shifted to Quetta when he succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital, Dashti said.

Police said Hanif was the target of the attack. The blast occurred on Taj Road in Chaman, which is located just kilometres away from the country's border with Afghanistan, and shattered windows in nearby buildings. The dead include a 12-year-old child, Chaman District Police Officer Shaukat Mohmand told DawnNewsTV. The injured were shifted to Civil Hospital Chaman, where an emergency was declared.

Chaman is considered a sensitive town in Balochistan as it shares a border with Afghanistan's volatile Kandahar province. The blast took place amid heightened security in the area due to a presidential vote being held across the border in Afghanistan. No group immediately claimed responsibility for the blast. Prime Minister Imran Khan strongly condemned the incident and expressed profound sorrow and regret over the loss of precious lives, including the JUI-F leader. The premier extended his heartfelt condolences to the heirs of the deceased and prayed that they find the strength to bear the irreparable loss. He also directed authorities to provide the best possible medical treatment to all those injured.

International community will take note of situation in Kashmir: Pakistan PM Imran Khan – PTI

HIGHLIGHTS

- Imran Khan said he is confident that ultimately the international community will take note of the situation in the Valley

- Continuing with his anti-India rhetoric, he said, "There's no question of me meeting Prime Minister Modi of what he's done in Kashmir"

- "He (Modi) keeps saying it's a bilateral relation. When we try to talk to him, he says, it's a unilateral issue", Khan said

WASHINGTON: While conceding that he has not received much traction for his shrill campaign on Kashmir, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has said he is confident that ultimately the international community will take note of the situation in the Valley.

In an interview to CNN, Khan, the self designated ambassador of Kashmir, continued with his anti-India rhetoric and said there was "no question" of him meeting his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi after his government ended the special status of Jammu and Kashmir last month.

"There's no question of me meeting Prime Minister Modi of what he's done in Kashmir," Khan said.

But India has said that there is no question of resumption of talks with Pakistan unless it takes concrete steps to stop cross-border terrorism.

On being asked why he thinks there has been no international uproar on Kashmir, Khan said the world leaders were looking at India as a market of more than a billion people.

"A lot of leaders didn't realise this. But I think even the ones who realise look upon India as a market for 1.2 (sic) billion people and trade and so on. And this is the sad thing, (valuing) material over the human," Khan rued.

Imran Khan said he had apprised top leaders of the world about the situation in Kashmir during his trip to New York to attend the annual session of the UN General Assembly

Responding to a question, Khan said that Modi did not want any international mediation on Kashmir.

"He keeps saying it's a bilateral relation. When we try to talk to him, he says, it's a unilateral issue. So, we go around in circles," he said.

"But eventually, and this is my belief, this is what I think I've achieved from my trip here, I believe that the international community will move in. They will have to because this is going to become a flash point," he said, reiterating his warning to the international community.

Responding to a question on India's assertions that Pakistan is mobilising terrorists across the Line of Control to send them to Kashmir and other parts of India to carry out terrorist activities, Khan said he has specifically told Pakistanis that anyone going into Kashmir will be an enemy of the country and an enemy of Kashmiris

"It's the first time two nuclear-armed countries are face-to-face. If this goes like it happened in February, I mean, we immediately return the pilot when we shot down the plane because we didn't want any escalation," he said.

"In six years India has changed and I fear it is going to change even more rapidly. That is why I call it appeasement. The world has to take a stand," he said. India ended Jammu and Kashmir's special status by abrogating Article 370 of its Constitution on August 5.

India's decision evoked strong reactions from Pakistan, which downgraded diplomatic ties and expelled the Indian Ambassador

Pakistan has been trying to internationalise the Kashmir issue after India withdrew the special status of Jammu and Kashmir on August 5, but New Delhi has asserted the abrogation of Article 370 was its "internal matter".

India has also said that there is no scope for any third party mediation on the Kashmir issue.

Perhaps it may be a good idea to henceforth refer to IK as Mr. Niazi, the nephew of the Butcher of Bangladesh. Khan is too much of a glamorous surname and he needs to be downgraded to his real self.

What? Pakistan’s First Lady’s Image Does Not Appear in Mirrors, Claims Report
Forty-one-year-old Bushra Bibi, the centre of many bizarre speculations in Pakistan, is believed to have supernatural powers.
By India.com News Desk, September 29, 2019.

New Delhi: In a bizarre claim, Pakistan’s Capital TV has reported that Pakistan’s first lady Bushra Bibi’s image does not appear in mirrors, an ANI report said. The claim, with all its absurdities, has been attributed to the house staff at the Prime Minister’s House.
Bushra Bibi, the first veiled first lady of Pakistan, has been the centre of several controversies. There are absurd claims about her magical powers, her former marriage, her association with Imran Khan which led to their wedding just six months before Imran Khan became the prime minister of Pakistan. Her public appearances in full veil also drew flak countering which she, in her first interview to Pakistan media, said her veil does not define her modernity. She should be judged on the basis of her personality, not her face.
According to reports, then-PTI leader Imran Khan proposed to Bushra Maneka, his spiritual mentor, early last year. In a very private affair, the duo got married in February, which marked the first full-veiled appearance of Bushra Bibi, triggering various speculations.

For high-level entertainment, none can better the Sheeda Tulli aka Sheikh Toupee. From start to finish, this rant from yesterday, in Sialkot, is perfect with the morning chai biskoot: "I swear on my mother's milk that I will become shaheed in Srinagar...."

But I am also going to tag this on twitter (and recommend you do the same). Here is a cabinet minister of Pakistani PM Imran Khan, celebrating with gusto how his beloved "Taliban have defeated America". @RealDonaldTrump will no doubt want to know that Imran Khan and his ministers are fervent and open believers in "Make America Defeated Again":

I think someone should tell dummy's wife that the right way to use the mirror is to look at the shiny side. If you look at the back of the frame (the part covered by a cardboard) you can't see your reflection.

If you can't see your reflection in a mirror turn it over. You are looking at the wrong side.

If you are looking from non India side, Imran’s gave an excellent speech at least for his domestic audience, full of emotional content and measured delivery.

It was filled with lies, misinformation, absurd logics, made up history, fake open source google/wiki research, personal attacks and at time patronizing tone for western audience so most informed people sill see through it at once but his intended target audience i.e. domestic political base and bleeding heart liberals, will eat it out of his hands.

Only part that I agreed with was his point #2 -western countries have all these FATA and drug enforcement and money laundering controls because it affects them. While criminals and illegal money that flows out of developing countries finds protection in western courts. London court inspects our jail cell for amount of natural light and toilet hygiene before a fugitive billionaire citizen of India is sent back to face trial for his crimes.

dude, what would you call an anonymous tweeter who is insinuating to be somehow connected to PM of India. If he is not a charlatan than he is leaking official secrets which makes him a criminal antinational.

Cryptic charlatan talk is designed to mean a hundred different things, the faithful would choose what they want it to be and claim divinity into their favorite Babaji. Even Ram Rahim type can generate millions of following so yeah.....

Warnings to Qadiyani (derogatory term for Ahmadi faith), and Shias, prohibiting them from entering certain markets or contesting local body elections.

Quite a contrast to the Pashtuns (PTM), who deride faith based discrimination and don't distinguish between Shia/Hazara/Sunni pashtuns because their identity precedes religion. You can see the fruits of Wahabism that were sowed in the 90's. No wonder there is increasing outward mobility of minority communities.

But there are hardly any Hindus in the Pastun areas, either in Pak or Afghanistan. The problem lies with the Hindus. Once Hindus have been killed, raped, forcibly converted, or driven out, the Marde-Momen turns against itself. Dark green kills the light green. Just like the story "King Rat"by James Clavelle, where once the rats were deprived of food, they started eating each other. For Pakistan to survive and thrive, it must have a Hindu minority to oppress and brutalize.

Imran's Saudi-Iran mediation offer has slim chance of success - Kamran Yousaf

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan returned home on Sunday after what many believe his successful week-long visit to New York where in his maiden address at the United Nations General Assembly session he forcefully raised the longstanding Kashmir dispute.

At the airport, a huge crowed greeted the prime minister for advancing the cause of Kashmir.

But other than the brewing tensions with India, another issue that gave Prime Minister Imran prominence was his revelation that he was mediating between the US and Iran as well as Saudi Arabia in order to defuse the Middle East crises.

Tensions have been on the rise in the volatile Middle East for months but recent drone strikes targeting Saudi oil facilities have raised the spectre of direct conflict between Saudi Arabia and Iran.

Does UN speech signal Imran’s arrival as a global leader?

The deteriorating situation sent alarm bells ringing in Pakistan as any direct conflict between Saudi Arabia and Iran would not only bring new challenges, but also huge implications for the country.

It was because of this that Pakistan decided to reach out to all international and regional players to offer mediation, said officials privy to the development.

Before embarking on a visit to the US, Prime Minister Imran travelled to Riyadh where he had discussed the issue with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman.

In New York after meeting US President Donald Trump, Imran disclosed that Trump had asked him to play a role in defusing tensions with Iran.

The prime minister held talks with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani while Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi met at least thrice with his Iranian counterpart Javad Zarif. The prime minister didn’t share further details.

But officials and diplomatic sources told The Express Tribune that no serious headway was made in those efforts by Pakistan. Trump also claimed that it was Imran who brought up the issue and wished to play the role of a mediator.

Diplomatic sources are of the view that Iran’s conflict with Saudi Arabia and the US is far more complicated to be brokered by Pakistan.

Ambassador (retd) Ali Sarwar Naqvi, who served in different Middle Eastern capitals, endorsed the assessment but added that Prime Minister Imran’s efforts could help clear some misunderstandings between Iran and Saudi Arabia, on the recent missile attacks on Saudi oil facilities in particular.

Both the US and Saudi Arabia have blamed Iran for the attack, although Houthi rebels in Yemen took the responsibility. Tehran denied its role and insisted that such an attack would never benefit the country.

This is not the first time Pakistan has offered mediation between Iran and Gulf states.

During Iran-Iraq war, the then military ruler Gen Ziaul Haq undertook several visits to Tehran and Baghdad, said Ambassador Naqvi, who was also part of many such visits.

He, however, pointed out that those efforts made little impact as Iran-Iraq war continued for eight long years.

What those diplomatic manoeuvres did was to send a positive message to domestic audience in Pakistan.

“And that’s perhaps the main purpose of the government’s current offer of mediation,” he noted while arguing that public opinion in Pakistan is always against taking sides in any conflict between Muslim countries.

Sensing the public sentiments, former prime minister Nawaz Sharif also tried to mediate between Iran and Saudi Arabia over the Yemen war in 2015 instead of joining the Saudi-led alliance against Houthi rebels.

He along with the then army chief Gen Raheel Sharif, who now heads a Saudi-led Islamic coalition, visited Tehran and Riyadh.

But even those efforts couldn’t achieve the desired results as tensions continued to simmer between Iran and Saudi Arabia.

A Foreign Office official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, admitted that while Prime Minister Imran’s efforts may not be successful, Pakistan has no option except to seek de-escalation in tensions between the two countries.

“Irrespective of the end result, Pakistan will continue with its diplomatic push with regard to Saudi-Iran tensions,” the official added.

Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority directs all Pak news channels to not invite any Indian celebrity, journalists, political personality for any news debate show. Order dated August 8 to keep ‘Pakistan narrative on Kashmir alive’. Can India please do the same? Please!

Can Indian channels also show self respect & not invite PR spokesman for Pakis: @MichaelKugelman? He is toast of all Indian channels. He dishes out India Paki hyphenated moral equivalence crap & he dare not put his finger on Paki terror. He also justifies Taliban Khan's UN rant

World’s dirtiest city - Kamal Siddiqi
In 1973, Karachi was named as the world’s dirtiest city. A film clip available on the internet shows open sewers, animals running astray, mounds of garbage and much more. Houses are poorly constructed or maintained. Nearly 50 years on, not much has changed. In fact, possibly things may have been better in 1973.
