If ICJ allows 370 issue to be listed, then India can apply the same yardstick to Gilgit and Northern regions, whose status was changed by Pak.
I read some chatter that Pak will go to ICJ on the basis on "genocide"..
That would make it easier for us to take Balochistan to ICJ!
Pak just shot itself in the foot.

Basic fact check could have been done. Wikipedia's entry on ICJ's "Jurisdiction" would have take 10 minutes at max.nam wrote:If ICJ allows 370 issue to be listed, then India can apply the same yardstick to Gilgit and Northern regions, whose status was changed by Pak.

MUMBAI: Union water resources minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat has said the government has begun the process of stopping the waters from the Himalayan rivers flowing into Pakistan without violating Indus Water Treaty.
"Work has already begun to stop the waters that flow into Pakistan (under the Indus treaty). I am talking about the water which is going to Pakistan, and I am not talking about breaking the Indus treaty, " Shekhawat said here Tuesday evening.
The minister's comments assume importance as after the Pulwama terror attack early February and Delhi's retaliatory bombing of a terror camp in Balakot, the bilateral ties have hit new lows.

How Pakistan's worst kept secret cheated people of PoK for six decades
People were not aware of a secret agreement that decided the fate of the land where they have been living.
For over 59 years, the people of Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK), including Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), were not aware of a secret agreement which decided the political contours and governance of the territory where they have been living.
Now the exiled leaders of PoK and GB are feeling the biggest betrayal at the hands of Islamabad which came through the secret 'Karachi Agreement' allegedly signed between three parties in 1949.
The secret agreement, carrying 'forged signatures' of founder President of PoK, Sardar Ibrahim Khan, Chief of Jammu Kashmir Muslim Conference Chaudhary Ghulam Abbas and key representative of the Pakistan government Mushtak Gurmani, facilitated the forcible occupation of Gilgit-Baltistan by deceit, revealed Nasir Aziz Khan, exiled leader and chief spokesperson of United Kashmir People's National Party (UKPNP), a prominent political outfit in GB.
Haunted by Pakistan's spy agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) for years, Nasir Khan and his party's chief Shaukat Kashmiri now live in Bern, the capital city of Switzerland.
Speaking to IANS, Nasir Khan said that the situation in Baltistan, a bigger part of greater Kashmir occupied by Pakistan, is pathetic.
"The natural resources, including goldmines, are being plundered by Chinese companies at the behest of Islamabad. People are being tortured and kidnapped by the ISI for raising their voice against such blatant loot of resources.
"Under the garb of Schedule IV (of the Terrorism Act), people are not allowed to move out of their places. The basic standard of living is far from the reach of the people who were once promised the moon by the Pakistan government," Nasir Khan said over phone from Bern.
On the Karachi Agreement (PoK) of 1949, the document now being debated across GB and PoK, Nasir Khan said that it was Pakistan's worst kept secret for decades, as it facilitated Islamabad to grab a large chunk of strategic land in GB by stealth.
"In lieu of the so called Azad Kashmir (PoK), Pakistan captured 90 per cent of Kashmir. The founder President (of PoK) Sardar Ibrahim had told our leaders that he did not sign the agreement. His signatures were forged by Muhammed Deen Taseer, the father of former Punjab Governor Salman Taseer.
"For decades, no one knew about this agreement. No one knew in Kashmir about the deal. No one knew that Pakistan had grabbed our land by deceit," said Nasir Khan, who feels that at every step the people of GB were cheated by the establishment.
Documents now reveal that the Karachi Agreement was signed on April 28, 1949, between Pakistan's then Minister Mushtak Gurnami, looking after Kashmir Affairs, Sardar Ibrahim, President of PoK, and Chaudhary Ghulam Abbas, chief of All Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference.
The agreement was apparently kept as a secret by the government till 1990s. Even in 1949, when the agreement was secretly signed between the three parties, it was not reported in the media.
The agreement was revealed for the first time in the verdict of Gilgit and Baltistan by the High Court of PoK in 1990s. Later, it was published in the appendix of the Constitution of PoK in 2008. In simple words, the people of GB were cheated by the Pakistan government by keeping the agreement under wraps for 59 years.
Disturbed over the recent developments in the sub-continent and the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, Nasir Khan said that armed forces (of Pakistan) were being moved from the western borders of the North West Frontier Province towards the eastern side near PoK.
"We fear that another gruesome battle will be fought on our land. The developments in Pakistan are really frightening. We fear the ISI will unleash another blow of cold blooded terror on our people," he said.
About Shaukat Kashmiri, a popular leader of GB, Nasir Khan revealed that since 1999, almost two decades, Shakaut is living in exile.
"The ISI had kidnapped him twice (in 1994 and 1998) and for a long period he was kept in Kharian, the ISI hideout near Rawalpindi. Later on US intervention, Shaukat was released by the ISI on a secluded border of Afghanistan, near the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa area," Nasir Khan said.
Both Nasir Khan and Shaukat Kashmiri are mustering the support of UN agencies and the people of GB at large to expose the nexus of ISI, Pakistan Army and the government establishment in Islamabad, which for years have held democracy at ransom in Gilgit-Baltistan, the greater Kashmir area occupied by Pakistan
Cheers

Why Pakistan Army Disowns Its Own Killed Soldiers | Opinion
Twenty years have been passed since then and the state of Pakistan Army is still the same. Whether they are on Indian Front or anywhere else, Pakistan rarely accepts its military casualties.
By Amit Bansal, August 20, 2019.
New Delhi: It was the sunny morning of a day in the second week of July 1999, when an Indian Army Patrol was escorting a Maulvi from nearby Battalik town to nearby Jubar Hills, a feature located close to Line of Control with Pakistan. Despite his fitness being a hill resident, it was difficult for Maulvi to climb however the soldiers of 1/11 Gorkha Rifles were advancing like a seasoned mountaineer carrying the load of Maulvi also. They lost their comrades there on this very hill including Captain Manoj Kumar Pandey who was awarded Param Vir Chakra later.
Near the Jubar Top, Thirty Shallow graves were dug out in the mountains. Thirty Bodies were lying there covered with Pakistani Flags. Soon after he reached on top, he started the process of burial, first bathing the bodies with water brought from a nearby glacier, covered them in White Shroud and put the Pakistani Flag again. Then the Maulvi offered funeral prayers. Some of the Indian Army Soldiers including their officer also bowed down to pay respect to the deceased ones.
Pakistani Flags were removed, respectfully folded & kept along with the belongings of these soldiers. Later the bodies were lowered into the graves, covered with sand, gravel and stones whatever is available in those mountains and a marker was put on top of each one of them. A bugle played the song “Last Post” and finally the finest Gurkha Soldiers of Indian Army bid them last farewell. Till a few days back, they were fighting with the same people, these were the people who martyred their loving Pandey Sahab but nevertheless, a soldier is a soldier and he deserves a soldier’s burial. Though they were Pakistanis who were forgotten & totally disowned by their own country and the same country for which they fought and laid down their lives, is claiming them unknown &just not ready to take even their mortal remains.
Twenty years have been passed since then and the state of Pakistan Army is still the same. Whether they are on Indian Front or anywhere else, Pakistan rarely accepts its military casualties. It had been my own experience on Line of Control in Kashmir. We have seen Pakistani Soldiers getting killed in Shelling or Cease Fire Violation, we see their mortal remains going away through our binoculars, Our Radio intercepts confirm their deaths but rarely is the case where Pakistan Army or its media wing is accepting these deaths.
I tried to investigate the fact. Though no responsible country will disown its dead soldiers, why Pakistan is doing it is a surprise to me. As per my analysis, there could be several reasons for it. Let’s discuss them one by one.

Did we say bye, bye to IWT?
LinkOn Monday, Pakistan Commissioner for Indus Waters Shiraz Jamil Memon said India had suspended the Indus Waters Treaty and stopped all kinds of data sharing related to the water agreement between the two countries. India also did not notify Pakistan about releasing additional water into River Sutlej, the official said.
Re: Terroristan - May 1, 2019
I am wondering if the long term plan is to divert the waters of the 3 eastern rivers completely, then in a few years abrogate the IWT and renegotiate from a position of strength. Water for POK will be the choice. The next 2-3 years will also be used to stabilize Kashmir and create a movement in POK for unification with India.

No, but these kinds of technical details are the ones to fall through the cracks when the diplomatic status is lowered. You see, no more Water Liaison Officer sitting in Islamabad because you slashed our embassy strength, what to do?saip wrote:Did we say bye, bye to IWT?

Pakistan divided over raising Kashmir at International Court of Justice.
After Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan decided to raise the Kashmir issue at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the Law Ministry is yet to frame its views on the move.
On Tuesday, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi had said Pakistan had decided to move the ICJ on Kashmir issue and the Law Ministry would share the details soon. On Wednesday, the Ministry said no decision had been taken.
The Express Tribune, a Pakistan English daily, has reported that opinion over the issue was divided.
A senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader told The Express Tribune that senior party leaders were in touch with Ben Emerson, a London-based lawyer, who advised Pakistan to approach the ICJ on Kashmir issue.(Millions of $ to be made in fees and other kickbacks)
Even the international law experts in Pakistan have expressed astonishment over the government's decision. The opinion is said to be divided due to the jurisdictional issue. According to international law expert Taimur Malik, the matter can be referred to the ICJ but its opinion is only advisory in nature and not binding to the parties concerned. But it could help Pakistan make the Kashmir issue 'international', he added.
Malik also said it would be difficult to put India in the dock due to various provisions of the international law as India reserves the right on bilateral issues at the ICJ.

The Sutlej-Yamuna link canal was supposed to divert surplus water in Sutlej. But unfortunately that got caught up in Punjab-Haryana politics and whatever money was spent on the Punjab side in building the channel was closed by refilling by the Akali Government a long time back. Of course this year was exceptional in that both Yamuna and Sutlej was in spate at the same time.Guddu wrote:I am wondering if the long term plan is to divert the waters of the 3 eastern rivers completely, then in a few years abrogate the IWT and renegotiate from a position of strength. Pakistan submits compliance report to terror-funding watchdog -PTI
Pakistan has submitted compliance report on its 27-point action plan to the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), as three separate evaluations currently in progress will determine the country’s possible exit from the grey list of the anti-money laundering watchdog by October, according to a media report.
The Asia-Pacific Group — the regional affiliate of the FATF — is currently conducting in Canberra (Australia) five-year mutual evaluation of Pakistan’s progress on upgrading its systems in all areas of financial and insurance services and sectors, a senior government official told Dawn.
This round is not directly linked to Pakistan’s performance on its commitments with the FATF on money laundering and terror-financing, but its assessment report can indirectly impact the country’s position to move out of the grey list.
The assessments, represented from Pakistan by State Bank of Pakistan Governor Baqir Reza, will conclude on August 23, the daily said.
Pakistan has submitted its compliance report on 27-point action plan committed with the FATF to the APG, which is reviewing its compliance on about seven areas mostly relating to financial and insurance services and facilities as part of an ongoing five-year review cycle.
These areas cover safeguards against money laundering and terror financing by banned outfits and non-government entities through banking and non-banking jurisdictions, capital markets, corporate and non-corporate sectors like chartered accountancy, financial advisory services, cost and management accountancy firm, jewellers and similar related services.
The official aid that the five-year review by the APG, which had been under way for nearly two years, would conclude on August 23. As part of this process, he added, the countries were given future targets in view of changing technologies, practices and latest techniques and scopes.
This will be followed by another round of mutual evaluations by the APG starting September 5 in Bangkok (Thailand) that would become a key basis of Pakistan’s final review by the FATF at its plenary and working group meetings scheduled for October 13-18 in Paris.
The Paris plenary will also take up a separate assessment by the US Treasury Department regarding Pakistan’s compliance with global commitments against money laundering and terror financing.
The FATF last year placed Pakistan on the grey list of countries whose domestic laws are considered weak to tackle the challenges of money laundering and terrorism financing.
In June, the Paris-based anti-money laundering watchdog said that Pakistan failed to complete its action plan on terror financing.
It warned Islamabad to meet its commitment by October or face action, which could possibly lead to the country getting blacklisted.

Pakistan opens headworks gates, 17 villages of Punjab's Ferozepur flooded
CHANDIGARH: As many as 17 villages of Punjab's border district Ferozepur were flooded after Pakistan opened headworks gates in its area on the Sutlej river, an official said on Thursday.
Several villages of Ferozepur are already inundated because of the recent rains and breaches in embankments of the Sutlej river.
"With the opening of gates of headworks (used for regulating water flow) in Kasur area by Pakistan, 17 villages in our side (located near Indo-Pak border) have been affected," deputy commissioner, Ferozepur, Chander Gaind said.
He said the water released by leather tanneries in Pakistan's Kasur district into the river contained pollutants.
"Polluted water of tanneries of Pakistan was also added into the river water, which is the main cause of cancer," he said.
Kasur district, which is part of Pakistan's Punjab province, is known for leather tanneries.
A few days back, Pakistan had accused India of releasing about 2,00,000 cusecs of water into the Sutlej river without any intimation, causing flood-like situation in various areas in the country.
Gaind said the teams of the Army and the NDRF are carrying out rescue and rehabilitation works in the affected areas.
"Motor boats have been pressed into service for carrying out rescue operations," he said.
