Imran Khan's schedule for this week.

1) Tweet praises about Tipu Sultan who fought and died for freedom and sovirginity instead of living in subservience.

PM Imran launches Al-Qadir University to ‘teach Sufism, create future leaders’

Addressing the ceremony here, the prime minister said the university would teach the students the principles of State of Madina and Pakistan’s ideology as envisioned by Allama Muhammad Iqbal and Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

The prime minister said besides teaching contemporary sciences like artificial intelligence and technology, the main focus of the university would be research on Sufism and its connection with Islam.
He said unfortunately, the western culture had been influencing the young generation who needed to be taught basic Islamic principles, Islamic history and Pakistan’s ideology.

If the aim is to create future leaders for Pakistan, how come there is no mention of any IMF 101 course?

And duplicate Motor Bikes (chinese) in Krachi

This market in Saddar claims to sell luxury motorbikes for less than Rs 10 lakhs

The motorcycle market in Saddar these days has about 120 different brands that have nearly all been made in China.

One such dealer, Abdullah Shari, who had several beautiful machines, such as BMW, Yamaha YZF-R3 and Kawasaki, parked right before his work desk, smiles as he shares their price with Dawn. And you almost fall off your chairs when you expect to hear something like six or seven million and are told that they cost three to six lakhs in rupees only. One wonders if they are second-hand or refurbished models.

“Not everyone can afford genuine heavy bikes, the cheapest of which may cost as much as 25 to 45 lakhs,” says Shari. “Then if you are buying a second-hand genuine bike, its cost may go down to something between 16 to 25 lakhs, but here these new bikes are so reasonably priced due to their being replicas of the real thing,” he says, making everything fall into place.

“What do those people who also love heavy bikes and dream of owning one but can’t afford it, do?” The dealer asks and then ends up replying to his own question. “Well, they can go for these China-manufactured first copies of the originals,” he smiles. “When parked next to an original, even someone who prides himself in knowing about heavy bikes can get confused,” he says, adding that some 70 per cent of such bikes in Pakistan are actually replicas.

Pakistan uses 'terrorism as tool' against India: Former CIA director

Morell said that the population of this South Asian country is exploding, and the demographics are awful.

Pakistan, obsessed with India as a perceived existential threat, has "created terrorist groups to be a tool" in its struggle against India, a former top American spymaster has said.

Former CIA acting director Michael Morell, in a podcast discussion with Kurt Campbell and Rich Verma on Thursday, alleged that Pakistan is one of the most dangerous countries in the world.

Pakistan has "created terrorist groups to be a tool" in their struggle against India, Morell said.

Campbell, the former Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian Affairs and Verma, the former US Ambassador to India, now regularly host 'The Tealeaves' Podcast of the Asia Group.

"What they don't realise is that it's impossible to keep those terrorist groups under control. And that eventually comes back to bite you. You know, I believe that Pakistan, at the end of the day, maybe the most dangerous country in the world," Morell said.

Morell who played a key role in the Abbottabad raid that killed Osama bin Laden -- the al-Qaeda chief and mastermind behind the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in the United States -- in a safe house in Pakistan, said that the population of this South Asian country is exploding, and the demographics are awful.

"The economy's going nowhere. It simply can't provide the jobs that need to be provided for the young people who are entering the labour force. The education system is literally broken. I went to Pakistan more often than I went to any other country when I was deputy director," he said, referring to his impression about Pakistan when he was the deputy head in the CIA during the Obama administration.

There's no wonder that many Pakistani parents send their kids to madrasa and one knows what happens to a small percentage of the kids who go there.

"The extremism is growing from a societal perspective. It's growing within the military. So, it is not impossible, not tomorrow, not next week, not next year, but five years from now, 10 years from now that you could have a color revolution, Arab spring style movement in the streets of Islamabad that ends up with an extremist government there with nuclear weapons. That's what so scary," Morell said.

According to Morell, then president Barack Obama's Pakistan policy in his first term was to get the Pakistanis to see their strategic environment in a real way.

"They still see India and, I think, for foreseeable future, will see India as an existential threat to the state of Pakistan. It's not, it's just not. India stopped focusing on Pakistan a long time ago. They're focusing on their economic future," he argued.

But because the Pakistanis are so obsessed with this perceived existential threat, they've both organised their society in order to protect themselves from that threat. So, they've given an immense amount of power to the military, and much less power to the civilian government, he said.

"The government therefore makes choices that I don't believe, and many people don't believe are in the best long term interest of Pakistan. Pakistan has spent more money on nuclear weapons than they do in education.

"And they use terrorism as a tool against the Indians... and then also in Afghanistan, because they fear Indian influence in Afghanistan. So they've created terrorist groups, right to be a tool of theirs in the struggle against India," Morell added

Army to induct 460 Russian-origin tanks to add muscle on Pak front

Image

Pakistan is also discussing a deal with Russia for acquiring 360 T-90 tanks

NEW DELHI: The Indian Army will induct an additional 464 Russian-origin upgraded T-90 'Bhishma' main-battle tanks at a cost of Rs 13,448 crore in the 2022-2026 time frame to bolster its "shock and awe" capabilities on the western front, even as Pakistan is also discussing a deal with Russia for acquiring about 360 such tanks.

Defence ministry sources on Monday said the "indent" to produce the 464 T-90 tanks would soon be placed on the Avadi Heavy Vehicle Factory (HVF) under the Ordnance Factory Board after the cabinet committee on security cleared the licence acquisition from Russia over a month ago.

The Army already has around 1,070 T-90 tanks as well as 124 'Arjun' and 2,400 older T-72 tanks in its 67 armoured regiments. After the first 657 T-90 tanks were imported for Rs 8,525 crore from Russia from 2001 onwards, another 1,000 are being progressively licenced and produced by HVF with Russian kits. "There has been some delay in the indent for the remaining 464 tanks, which will also have night-fighting capabilities. Once it is done, the first 64 tanks should be delivered in 30-41 months," said a source.

The move comes at a time when the 1.3-million strong Army is also re-formatting its entire war-fighting machinery and the "Cold Start" or "Pro-Active Strategy", which envisages fast mobilisation to strike hard across the border with multiple offensive thrusts, as was reported earlier by TOI.

This task will primarily be carried out by restructured and agile integrated battle groups (IBGs) centred around the T-90S tanks, along with a mix of infantry, artillery, air defence, signals and engineers, backed by attack helicopters. The Army's new Land Warfare Doctrine itself notes that the "response along the western front will be sharp and swift, with the aim to destroy the adversary's centre of gravity and secure spatial gains".

Army chief General Bipin Rawat in January had announced the new IBGs would be war-gamed in February and then tested in an exercise in May. But the ongoing tensions with Pakistan, in the aftermath of the Pulwama attack and the consequent Balakot air strikes, which led to "precautionary deployments", have delayed execution of the plan.

"Pakistan has plans to upgrade its existing mechanised forces, which includes over 50 armoured regiments of Ukrainian T-80UD and Chinese-origin tanks. It wants to acquire new Russian T-90 tanks and indigenously produce others with China's help," said a source.

India has already procured additional laser-guided Invar missiles and 125mm APFSDS (armourpiercing fin-stabilised discarding sabot) ammunition for its T-90 tanks. But the Army's "future ready combat vehicle (FRCV)" project, with an initial quantity of 1,770 FRCVs to be produced under the "strategic partnership" policy to replace the older T-72 tanks, however, is yet to take off. "The Army had planned their induction from 2027-2028 onwards… it's keeping its fingers crossed," said the source.

Pakistani Christian girls targeted by Chinese as brides

“It’s purely supply and demand,” she said. “It used to be, ‘Is she light-skinned?’ Now it’s like, ‘Is she female?’”

Dozens of priests are paid by brokers to find brides for Chinese men, said Augustine, the provincial minorities minister, who is Christian. Many are from the small evangelical churches that have proliferated in Pakistan.

Gujranwala, a city north of Lahore, has been a particular target of brokers, with more than 100 local Christian women and girls married off to Chinese in recent months, according to Iqbal.

The city has several mainly Christian neighborhoods, largely dirt poor with open sewers running along narrow slum streets. Tucked away in the alleys are numerous evangelical churches, small cement structures unrecognizable except for small crosses outside.

Pastor Munch Morris said he knows a group of pastors in his neighborhood who work with a private Chinese marriage broker. Among them, he said, is a fellow pastor at his church who tells his flock, “God is happy because these Chinese boys convert to Christianity. They are helping the poor Christian girls.”

Morris opposes such marriages, calling them an insult. “We know these marriages are all for the sake of money.”

Rizwan Rashid, a parishioner at the city’s Roman Catholic St. John’s Church, said that two weeks earlier, a car pulled up to him outside the church gates. Two Pakistani men and a Chinese woman inside asked him if he knew of any girls who want to marry a Chinese man.

“They told me her life would be great,” he said. “Everything would be paid for by them.”

They were willing to pay him to help, but he said the church’s priest often warns his flock against such marriages, so he refused.

Brokers also troll brick kilns, where the poorest work essentially as slaves to pay off debts, and offer to pay off their workers’ debts in exchange for daughters as brides.

Pakistani and Chinese brokers work together in the trade. One prominent broker in Gujranwala is a Pakistani known only as Robinson. He refused to talk to the AP, but his wife Razia told the AP that they make arrangements through a Chinese marriage bureau in Islamabad.

Asad Umar agrees to rejoin cabinet: sources

ISLAMABAD: Former finance minister Asad Umar has agreed to rejoin the Federal Cabinet, Geo News reported Tuesday.

Minister for Railways Sheikh Rashid Ahmad reportedly played a key role in convincing Asad Umar and he met the former finance minister thrice in the past few days.

After today's meeting between them, Asad Umar called on Prime Minister Imran Khan, the report said.

Quoting unnamed sources, the TV channel said that the meeting with the prime minister is a part of efforts to bring Umar back into the cabinet and he will be taking oath soon.

Asad Umar quit last month as finance minister after PM Imran Khan asked him to take portfolio of petroleum, which he refused and opted to step down.

Later on, Dr Hafeez Sheikh was tasked with the responsibility of running the affairs of finance.

As I have previously pointed out, the so-called 'SUPARCO' expands to 'Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission', so it's real and accurate acronym is SUAR-CO!

And yes, there are more flying SUARs out there than space telescopes launched by SUAR CO.
