In the past half hour, BJP has picked up leads from UP and WB, as seen from a reduction in SP, BSP and AITC lead figures during that interval. Hope they hold and finish above 300.

now the NY times speaketh ..all hear

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, one of the most powerful and divisive leaders India has produced in decades, appeared easily headed for another five-year term, according to election returns so far.

The Election Commission reported that Mr. Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party, or B.J.P., was ahead in at least 294 parliamentary districts, far beyond the 272 seats it would need for a majority in the 543-seat Parliament. At this pace, the party would actually expand on its current majority — a development no one was predicting in recent months.

On republic:

Tanveer Spokesperson of JDS says there is a problem in coalition in Karnataka. Tanveer also said they will reevaluate alliance with INC.

Fall of Congress govt in Karnataka started.

Suraj's analysis of PP was spot on. Regarding false positives and false negatives.

Pradip Gupta of Axis My India (India Today) is probably more accurate than any body else.
Sachin Reddy did not do any exit poll. But he was close enough for Karnataka seats.

Credit goes to PeePee, not me :) He has been a very reliable estimator of wave elections. Both PP and Today's Chanakya had estimates in line with present trends - twice in a row .

INC appears destined to finish below the 55 seat mark they need for LOP.

2024 is dare I say is sealed. All the schemes and infra projects govt undertook last 5 years, the benefits will be seen in coming years. Unlike last time when congis got to enjoy the outcome of Vajpayee's govt schemes.

I believe there was a massive cross voting both in Telangana and AP to keep congress and Naidu out. I can't say if TRS voted for BJP, but BJP seems to have voted for TRS and YSRCP where it did not have a chance.

BSP is getting more seats than SP. Yadavs seem to have transferred their vote to BSP as it was a fight for survivial for SP but BSP did not trust them enough to transfer their votes because of past experience.

Very interested in muslim votes in UP and else where.

I hope that the UPA does a little bit better than 2014, so that Shri Rahul Gandhi (star campaigner for the NDA) stays as Congress President for longer. We need him in that seat for many more years to come...

Good. This lead should be maintained so that even after a last minute assault there is enough left in the tank to cross the line.

I'm going to guess Sonia will attempt to move out of Rae Bareili to let Priyanka contest by-elections there. In that case, BJP needs to make a full court press to grab that seat too, and marginalize the Ghandi family to one seat from Wayanad.

Random thought : If Congress knew it was going to win less than 60 seats but still contested over 300 seats and assuming the going price for 1 MP ticket is over 20 crore then does the familia raise 6000 crores loot money for it's own welfare ? Did the losing contestants get suckered into parting with their money...
