Imran Khan-led govt's days are numbered, warns Pak cleric Fazlur Rehman
- Firebrand cleric-cum-politician Maulana Fazlur Rehman said Imran Khan was trying to be the "Gorbachev of Pakistan".
- The cleric used the same expression to describe Khan earlier this month when he gave him two days deadline to tender his resignation.
KARACHI: Firebrand cleric-cum-politician Maulana Fazlur Rehman has fired a fresh salvo at Prime Minister Imran Khan, saying the "Gorbachev of Pakistan" was heading a government that has its days numbered.
Speaking at a sit-in in Bannu city in southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday, the hard-line cleric and leader of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) hit out at the prime minister for calling opposition leaders "thieves", alleging that the "selected" government has offered National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) to Khan's sister.
Rehman claimed the time for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government led by Khan was running out.
"The roots of this government have been cut. They have only a number of days left," Rehman warned.
"Imran Khan has given his sister an NRO. Give us a similar sewing machine which can earn you Rs 70 billion in one year," he was quoted as saying by the Geo News.
National Reconciliation Ordinance was an ordinance issued in October 2007 granting pardon to politicians, political workers and bureaucrats accused of corruption, embezzlement, money laundering, murder, and terrorism.
Rehman said Khan was trying to be the "Gorbachev of Pakistan". He used the same expression to describe Khan earlier this month when he gave the prime minister two days deadline to tender his resignation.
The JUI-F chief was responding to Khan's tirade from the previous day where he labelled Rehman's anti-government protest as a "circus".
Prime Minister Khan said on Monday that a "circus" took place in Islamabad in the name of 'Azadi March' protest.
He said the protesters could not even stay for a month in the capital as opposed to his party's 2014 protest of 126 days.
Khan said the opposition leaders had ulterior motives, which is why they resorted to dharna politics on containers.
Earlier, Rehman led a massive anti-government protest rally, dubbed 'Azadi March', aimed at toppling the incumbent government.
The firebrand cleric had lambasted the government for failing on key domestic and foreign policy fronts. He said only Pakistan's economy was going down whereas the economies of all other regional countries were going up.
Rehman launched his protest on October 27 from Karachi and arrived in Islamabad on October 31, leading a caravan of tens of thousands of followers.
He repeatedly said that the protestors would stay until Khan resigned and new elections were announced. The government also engaged him in talks but failed to make any headway as he refused to budge from the key demand of resignation of the Prime Minister.
Despite failure to achieve the objective immediately, it is believed that he gained politically by showing his power to assemble large crowds. The discipline and peace of the protestors were also acknowledged even by his opponents.
The opposition parties, including the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan People Party (PPP), had also thrown their weight behind the massive anti-government rally comprising thousands of protesters in Islamabad.
Rehman claimed on Tuesday that the protest had achieved its target and added the JUI-F did not go to the federal capital without any purpose.
Cheers

When South Asian and American radicals collide, Congress takes notice
American support for Jamaat-e-Islami Islamism, however, is not always the product of its ideological proxies. South Asian Islamists also rely on the naivety of federal bureaucrats. ICNA has previously been the recipient of millions in DHS grants, and USAID has directly funded Jamaat schools in the Kashmir region.

Pakistan with China tries to put 4 Indians on UN terror list
extractedAfter the UN Security Council designated Jaish-e-Mohammed’s Masood Azhar as a global terrorist, Prime Minister Imran Khan’s government in Pakistan has been on an overdrive to frame Indians in terror cases.
Last week, Pakistan, with the support of UN Security Council permanent member and its all-weather ally China moved the 1267 Al Qaida sanctions committee to designate two Indians global terrorists after accusing them of past terror attacks in Balochistan and Peshawar, and even registered FIRs against them. This takes to four the number of Indians labelled terrorists by Pakistan. All four persons were evacuated by Indian security agencies from Afghanistan, with the last one being flown out of Kabul on November 18.
Hindustan Times has reported on three of the cases. The fourth is that of Andhra Pradesh resident Appaji Angara, who was working as a software developer in a bank in Kabul, Afghanistan. While Angara was moved out of Kabul as early as January 18, Pakistan accused him of a terrorist attack on Mall Road in Lahore on February 13, 2017, along with the Jamat-ul-Ahrar (JuA), a splinter group of the Tehreek-e-Taliban, Pakistan.
In the dossier submitted to the 1267 committee, Angara has been accused of the attack on Army School in Peshawar on December 16, 2014, in collaboration with JuA, and a bombing in Warsak colony in Peshawar on September 2, 2016. An FIR number 77 (dated July 13, 2019) under sections 312, 324, 353, 14B, 149, ¾ F & P, 7 ATA, counter-terrorism department, police station Peshawar, has been registered against him. The residence address, passport number and personal details of Angara are being withheld by HT.
Earlier this week, HT reported Pakistan’s effort to designate Gobinda Patnaik Duggivalasa. The Odisha-born Duggivalasa, 54, was hurriedly evacuated from Kabul by Indian security agencies on November 18 after he was accused of a terror attack on Siraj Raisani, a Pakistani politician, on July 13, 2018 in Mastung, Baluchistan in which 160 persons were killed. An FIR number 12/18 (dated July 13, 2019) under sections 109-427-34-ATA counter terrorism department, police station Quetta, Balochistan, and another FIR number 08/2018 (dated July 9, 2019) under section 109-427-07 ATA CTD, police station Quetta, Balochistan, names Duggivalasa as a terrorist.
A B. Com graduate from Odisha, with a diploma in computer applications from Chennai and a MBA from Vishakapatnam, Duggivalasa, according to dossier, worked as President of Phoenix Consulting Services in Kabul, Afghanistan. The company was a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluentgrid, and involved in capacity-building projects in Afghanistan. The full details of Duggivalasa are being withheld by HT.
Several Indian companies are working on projects in Afghanistan as the country seeks to rebuild its infrastructure after years of conflict.
Indian intelligence officials point to the two other instances, involving Indian nationals Ajoy Mistry in October and Venu Madhav Dongara in September – HT was the first to report on both – where Pakistan, with the help from China, tried to embarrass India in the UN through the 1267 route.
In the backdrop of the Imran Khan government showcasing two Indians arrested this week near Bhawalpur, despite New Delhi having informed Islamabad about their inadvertent crossing over to Pakistan months ago, the proposals before the 1267 committee are ominous, officials say it is evident from the chain of events that Pakistan, with the help of China, wants to brand India as a terror factory to “achieve parity”.
Had these Indians not been extracted, it is possible that they may have been abducted by ISI from Afghanistan, in much the same way Indian naval officer-turned-businessman Kulbushan Jadhav was from Iran, the officials added. Islamabad claimed in 2017 that he was arrested from Balochistan and accused him of terrorism and spying for Indian spy agency Research & Analysis Wing. He was sentenced to death by a court in Pakistan but the International Court of Justice stayed the execution. In July, it asked Pakistan to review his trial and conviction and to also provide consular access to India.

An uglier reality - F.S. Aijazuddin
OCT 31 has come and gone. The deadline British Prime Minister Boris Johnson gave for a decision on Brexit has been extended to a general election scheduled for Dec 12.
The date Prime Minister Narendra Modi set himself for a vote by the Indian parliament on the absorption of occupied Jammu & Kashmir into the Indian Union has come and gone. It is now a constitutional finality.
The gurdwara at Kartarpur, resurrected with such fanfare, has been relegated to an over-regulated piety.
The cross-country dharna precipitated by Maulana Fazlur Rehman and his ‘now you see them/now you don’t’ allies has melted into un-mourned obscurity.
The ailing former prime minister Nawaz Sharif had evaded all the traps laid by the present government and been spirited out (ECL notwithstanding) for treatment in a UK medical facility.
India’s absorption of held Kashmir is slipping down history’s pages.
That leaves prime minister Imran Khan mired in a morass of political insecurity. Had he been made to eat his own words, by now he would have been obese beyond recognition. His repeated U-turns have given the public vertigo. His cabinet is indefensibly over-populated, bulging with 48 members: 24 federal ministers, four ministers of state, five advisers and 15 special assistants. (Prime Minister Modi by comparison has a total of 58 ministers, including 25 cabinet ministers, nine ministers of state with independent charge, and 24 lesser ministers of state.)
Their exertions remind one of Pope John Paul I’s reply to someone who asked him how many people worked in the Vatican. “Oh, only half,” he replied. If a review was taken to ascertain how many of our cabinet ministers actually work, the answer might be even less than half, except for those voluble ones who talk on every subject except their own failures.
For Imran Khan, now that the Sharif golden goose has flown away without laying any golden eggs, the critical decision left is the extension of the army chief’s tenure. It is an invidious responsibility, as discovered by many of his predecessors — Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Benazir Bhutto, Nawaz Sharif, even Gen Pervez Musharraf. “There are too many examples of men,” the poet John Donne wrote in his Meditations (1624), “that have been their own executioners.”
It is no secret that Gen Bajwa’s current tenure ends on Nov 29 this year. Over two months ago, on Aug 19, it was announced that the prime minister had approved his extension. A notification signed off by the prime minister was issued to that effect. Since then, there has been unnecessary obfuscation as to whether the prime minster was the competent authority to approve the selection of the new COAS (he wasn’t), whether the more appropriate recommendation by the prime minister had been approved by the president (it has), and most importantly whether that appointment had been converted into a gazette notification (apparently not).
If Gen Bajwa is given an extension of three years, his tenure will extend until Nov 28, 2022. It is rumoured that his immediate subordinate Lt Gen Sarfraz Sattar will be promoted to the innocuous post of chief joint chiefs of staff. That will leave 19 generals who can look forward to retiring before Gen Bajwa completes his second term. The last six will leave by September 2022, two months before General Bajwa does.
One mentions all this as a matter of public record, shorn of interpretations. Civilians know better than to fish in khaki waters. Nevertheless, it would not be impertinent to recall that the justification for Gen Bajwa’s extension by the prime minister in his ill-advised letter was the precariousness of the “regional security environment”. That is a diplomatic euphemism for Afghanistan and India-occupied Kashmir, and the nuclear threat from India.
Afghanistan is another country. Its citizenry have been deafened by decades of bombs and explosions. They cannot hear nor heed Pakistani arguments. India’s absorption of occupied Jammu & Kashmir is slipping down the pages of history into a footnote.
Of the areas that were once components of the original pre-1947 state of Jammu & Kashmir, Aksai-Chin is with China, Gilgit-Baltistan is ostensibly a self-governing entity, and the southern part that constitutes Azad Jammu & Kashmir is a self-administered fiction beholden to Pakistan. Its very constitution prohibits anyone from questioning “the ideology of the State’s accession to Pakistan”.
Pakistan demands a restoration of the status of India-occupied Jammu & Kashmir ante Oct 31. India retorts that talks will be held with us “only on Pakistan-occupied Kashmir”.
Meanwhile, should India be tempted to attack Azad Jammu & Kashmir, how would Pakistan’s forces defend AJK?
It is time the prime minister and his fellow narcissists stopped admiring their own reflections and admitted an uglier reality.
Cheers

Chinese papers
IT’S there in black and white, 403 pages of a chilling prescription to erase the identity and ‘reprogramme’ the thinking of Chinese Muslim minorities — a dystopian ‘1984’ playing out in real life. Even more unfortunate, it now seems clear the strategy emanates from the very pinnacle of the Chinese government. A trove of internal documents from within the secretive Communist Party of China shared with the New York Times by an anonymous whistleblower has thrown a spotlight on the thought process that underlies the brutal repression of Muslim ethnic minorities, mainly Uighurs, and their mass detentions in ‘re-education camps’. They reveal a government that conflates extremists with peaceful, observant Muslims in China — religious persecution in its purest form. Among the pages are texts of secret speeches allegedly by President Xi Jinping laying out the security offensive against extremism in Xinjiang province. In one of them, “a period of painful, interventionary treatment” for those “infected” by “extremism” is advocated; in another to “…show absolutely no mercy”. The leaked documents also contain a guide for officials to use when dealing with queries from anxious Uighur youth when they find their family members missing: their relatives, the officials are instructed to say, were “infected” by the “virus” of Islamist radicalism for which they were required to be quarantined and cured. Moreover, Uighurs unwilling to accept the ‘official’ version of the situation should be cautioned their behaviour could prolong the detention of their family member/s.
For some time, accounts have been appearing in the Western media of a Uighur community under siege, and the detention camps in which as many as a million of them may be incarcerated. The stories have often been downplayed or dismissed as propaganda, usually by countries with high stakes in the world’s second-largest economy. China has denounced the exposé as an attempt to discredit its efforts against extremism which it has portrayed as a resounding success in Xinjiang — presumably as a result of a policy that is indeed entirely lacking in mercy. Significantly, however, it has not disputed the documents’ veracity. That makes it much more difficult to affect ignorance about the atrocities being inflicted on the Chinese Muslims. Like many other countries, Pakistan too has a spotty human rights record, but when it can speak out against the human rights violations of the Kashmiris and the Rohingya, can it stay silent about the Uighurs?
Cheers

India throws spanner in the Kartarpur works - Asif Mehmood
LAHORE: After more than seven decades, a historic passage to one of Sikhism’s holiest shrines is finally open, but so far, the Kartarpur corridor has not lived up to the expectations that peaked in the run-up to its inauguration earlier this month.
The turnout of devotees, through the long-delayed overland passage, that connects the Dera Baba Nanak shrine in northwest India’s Gurdaspur with the Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur, was lower than expected due to the barriers erected by the Modi administration.
“The process of online registration is very difficult. I had registered eight members of my family online, but when we arrived at the Indian Immigration Centre, we found out that only I was registered,” claimed Ramesh Singh, a Sikh from Gurdwadaspur.
While November 9 was a historic moment for many Indian Sikhs, it was not easy to manoeuvre through the roadblocks erected by the Indian authorities. For many pilgrims, the intense verification process and $20 fee surfaced as a roadblock in the holy journey that many had yearned for decades.
But despite the procedural hurdles, more than 2,500 followers of Guru Nanak along with former Indian prime minister Manmohan Singh, Amarinder Singh, the chief minister of India’s Punjab state, Indian parliamentarians and former cricket star Navjot Singh made it for the opening ceremony of the corridor. While the star-studded party faced no difficulties, ordinary Sikhs from India had to go through the rigmarole.
Under the agreement between the two sides, Indian visitors to the shrine only require a passport and travel permits instead of visas. However, they are not be allowed to leave the premises of the shrine or stay overnight in Pakistan.
Harbhajan Singh, a Sikh devotee from Uttar Pradesh, said most Indian citizens do not have a passport, which makes it very difficult for them to travel outside the country. “Obtaining the Indian passport is another lengthy and costly process,” Singh said.
Tanisha Chauhan, another Sikh devotee, claimed requests to travel through the corridor face a high rejection. “The police intimidate younger Sikhs and discourage them from travelling. Applicants under the age of 35 cannot use the corridor,” she claimed.
Police, she said, accuse the youngest members of the community of using the corridor to revive the Khalistan movement, which called for an independent state for the Sikhs. India quelled the movement by charging Sikhs with sedition and brutally killing thousands.
Sikhs from all walks of life believe the process has several roadblocks in India. The keeper of the Golden Temple in India said the $20 entry fee was keeping many pilgrims away from applying for the permit.
However, to offset the financial cost of the journey, expat Sikhs from Canada and the United Kingdom have bailed out funds for those who cannot afford the $20 price tag. “More than the money it is the procedural delays from the Indian side,” said one pilgrim, who spoke on the condition of anonymity.
Commenting on the matter, Sardar Surat Singh, in-charge of the Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee, said: “Prime Minister Imran Khan offered to waive off the entry requirements for one year, but the Indian leader did not reciprocate.”
Comments : (1)India should charge All Terroristani Pilgrims to India a US$20 fee for Pilgrimage as well as deny them the Concessional Rate of Rail Fare etc. (2) Stop this business of FREE MEDICAL CARE for Pakistani who need Medical care and also follow all Procedures/Costs imposed on Indian Visitors for Religious or Medical or any other reason in India

Pakistan seeks Iran, Saudi help for Belt and Road projects
In addition, Pakistan is trying to guarantee that the projects, if completed, will generate enough revenue to pay off what could be $60 billion in China-held debt. To this end, Islamabad is pitching the corridor to Iran, Saudi Arabia and other countries that might benefit from faster trade routes into and out of China.
Abdul Hafeez Shaikh, the prime minister's adviser on finance -- a position that makes him the de facto finance minister -- on Monday renewed the country's Belt and Road commitment and spelled out his future strategy to keep Pakistan from stumbling under the debt load. For the first time, he said the success of the CPEC rests on Pakistan persuading some of its neighbors to join the huge undertaking. {Many on this forum would have told that on day one.}
"We need all the revenue we can get to make this project financially feasible," the senior official said. "Just Pakistan on its own cannot generate the revenues to afford the huge debt, which will come if all the CPEC-related projects are undertaken." {Many on this forum would have told that on day one.}
<snip>
Zubair Khan, a former commerce minister and now an independent commentator on economic matters, told Nikkei that Pakistan persuading its neighbors to use the corridor will not be enough. He said the added traffic would raise revenue and ease Pakistan's debt load but added that if the nation is to pay off corridor-related debt it will have to earn more from exports. {Many on this forum would have told that on day one.}
<snip>
Moreover, Western diplomats said, Pakistan's future CPEC partners will have to include India -- the largest economy in South and Central Asia -- if corridor revenues are to be substantially lifted. But since gaining their independence in 1947, India and Pakistan have used the border they share to turn a cold shoulder toward the other. {Many on this forum would have told that on day one.}
"If Pakistan wants to turn this [initiative] into a regional project of some kind, India will be a prime candidate, with the size of its economy," a Western diplomat in Islamabad said, speaking to Nikkei on condition of anonymity. "India will have a strong interest in joining CPEC and having access to Central Asia. But right now, relations [between India and Pakistan] are so tense that it is hard to imagine them cooperating." {India will NOT join the CPEC under the current configuration}

We are lucky to have Pak as adversary, which is completely devoid of commonsense.In addition, Pakistan is trying to guarantee that the projects, if completed, will generate enough revenue to pay off what could be $60 billion in China-held debt. Why would you send or receive goods from sea level, reach the highest plateau in the world and then come down to eastern sea board of China?
Of everything you can sell, the Paks are selling a road to the top of the mountain and coming down..

Gentle BR-Fites :
I trust you will appreciate that China does not need Gwadar to have a Pipeline to Xinjiang , Kazakhstan and Turmeninstan as they already supply Oil and Natural Gas to China,since China has Constructed an Oil and Gas Pipeline from the Myanmar Port of Kyaukpyu - about 75 Miles South West of the Port of Sitwe - Old Name "Akyab" - to Kunming. This port has an Oil and Gas Terminal initially to Transport Oil and Natural Gas from Offshore Oil and Gas Fields as well as from Iran, Iraq and possibly West Africa with the Terminal handling capacity to receive Oil Tankers with a carrying capacity of up to 300.000 Tons.
IMHO Xinjiang will mainly use the CPEC Highway to Export Xinjinag Cotton Goods and other Goods to India and may be Saudi Arabia and Iran as there is to my knowledge a road to Iran via a Highway from Turkmenistan as Part of CPEC-OBOR system.
The CPEC-OBOR System is only to get China's Tentacles to perform a Humbantota Type Land Grab Operation to the various countries encircled by the System.
BTW : As per the Terroristani Economic Survey 2018-19 - CHAPTER 13 - Transport and Communication
Commercial Activities
Gwadar Port has handled last year around 7.156 Metric Ton cargo from 53 ships. The Chinese Operator is working on increasing the number of ship calls at the port. Two ship-liners (COSCO & Sino-Trans) are calling regularly at
the port. From 7th March, 2018 weekly container service has been started by COSCO.
The following is the Magnificent Performance of the Eminent Golden Port of Gwadi-wadi-yaar:
Table 13.14: Summary of trade/Cargo Data from March 2018 to February 2019
Total Cargo : 7,156 Metric Ton
Total Import 375.482 Metric Ton
Total Export 3401.105 Metric Ton
Important : Please note the Terroristanis are very weak in Math-e-matics as Evidenced by the above Phigures
Total Export 3401.105 Metric Ton
Thus, the Port of Gwadi-wadi-yaar has already BUILT A PILE OF CHINAWALA DEBT in its Annual Accounts for this year and possibly the preceding say Two years as also for quite some time to come!
I look forward to your views.

Nawaz Sharif's blood vessel to brain ‘is 80% blocked’ - News Desk
Doctors examining former prime minister Nawaz Sharif in London have revealed that a vessel that carries blood to the brain is 80% blocked, Jang newspaper reported on its website quoting sources.
The report said Nawaz was undergoing several medical tests, since his arrival in London earlier this week. Quoting family sources, it said that a Swiss doctor had also examined the former prime minister at his residence.
Meanwhile, Nawaz’s personal physician Dr Adnan Khan tweeted on Saturday that Dr David Lawrence, cardiothoracic Surgeon at University College Hospital examined the former premier, who had been “given a roadmap for cardiac investigations & subsequent treatment”.
Dr Lawrence performed the CABG (heart bypass surgery) on Nawaz in May 2016 and had clinically looked after ever since, the doctor said.
“Dr Lawrence in sync with haematologists at Guy’s & St Thomas’ Hospital, will manage” Nawaz, he added.
Cheers

Quran’s sacrilege in Norway: Pakistan to take up issue in EU, OIC - News Desk
Pakistan has decided to raise the matter of the Holy Quran’s sacrilege in Norway in the platforms of Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and European Union.
The decision was taken during the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) core committee meeting chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan in Islamabad on Sunday.
“The core committee unanimously condemned the desecration of Holy Quran and has decided to take up the matter in OIC and EU,” said Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting Firdous Ashiq Awan while addressing a news conference soon after the high-level huddle.
Last week, the head of Norway’s extreme right-wing group, Stop the Islamisation of Norway (SION), held a protest against Islam and attempted to burn a copy of the Holy Quran.
A Muslim man, identified as Umer Ilyas, prevented Lars Thorson from desecrating the Holy Scripture, but the latter threw it in a waste container in the presence of a police contingent.
Dr Firdous also said that the committee had also passed a resolution on the issue which “will be submitted in the OIC and EU”.
Pakistan conveys ‘deep concern’ to Norway over desecration of Holy Quran
Speaking on the foreign funding case, she said that the opposition parties are spreading disinformation in the media regarding the issue, adding that the core committee members had expressed annoyance over the misreporting in this regard.
Akbar S Babar, PTI’s disgruntled former founding member, had filed the foreign funding case in the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in 2014 after he developed differences with party chairman Imran Khan over alleged internal corruption and abuse of laws governing political funding.
“Unemployed opposition parties are spreading lies and misleading people on the foreign funding case,” the PM’s aide said.
“The government legal team will brief the media on the matter tomorrow (Monday) to dispel the opposition’s propaganda.”
She added that the PTI had complied with all the legal requirements and would continue to do so. “We have submitted the party’s response in the ECP and we believe that receiving funds from Pakistan diaspora cannot be termed as foreign funding.”
The government’s spokesperson said that the PTI was the first party in the country which raised funds from overseas Pakistanis.
“We will request the ECP to also conduct the hearing on the application filed by the PTI against other political parties and conduct the audit of their funds too,” she added.
Cheers

Pakistan hangs brigadier for spying
November 25, 2019 08:59 IST
It is unlikely Brigadier Raja Rizwan was working for RA&W, notes Rana Banerji, who headed the Pakistan desk at the Research and Analysis Wing, India's external intelligence agency.
Social media posts in Pakistan indicate Brigadier Raja Rizwan was hanged on Sunday, November 24, 2019 after his mercy plea was rejected for spying against the country. He had been charged for espionage and leakage of sensitive information to foreign agencies prejudicial to the national security.
Cases involving two senior Pakistgan army officers, Lieutenant General Javed Iqbal and Brigadier Raja came to light in October 2018 after Ali Rizwan, Brigadier Raja's son, filed a habeas corpus petition in the Islamabad high court reporting that his father had gone missing on October 10, 2018 evening, near a busy shopping centre in the city. Justice Aamer Farooq heard the petition and sought a report from the authorities.
In the last week of February 2019, Major General Asif Ghafoor, director general Inter-Services Public Relations, admitted while addressing a news conference that two senior officers were in military custody on charges of espionage.
Pakistan army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa had ordered their field general court martial. General Ghafoor also disclosed that the retired army officers were arrested in individual cases and there was no link between them. There were three separate cases. One other, involved a civilian working in a sensitive nuclear installation, Dr Wasim Akram.
Brigadier Rizwan hailed from Khanpur, Rahimyar Khan district, Punjab. His father was a junior commissioned officer (JCO, Engineers). He had his early education at the Hassan Abdal cadet college, a popular nursery for army recruits. He joined the 68th PMA course at Kakul and was commissioned in the 10th Frontier Force Regiment.
While in the army, he commanded a brigade in the tribal areas and thereafter, held a prestigious appointment as Pakistan's military attaché In Germany for three years, from 2009 to 2012. He retired from service in 2014.
Peers within the Pakistan military speculate he may have been honey-trapped as he had the reputation of having a glad eye. A video created by a Pakistani Pashtun Web site circulated on YouTube some time ago alleged India's Research & Analysis Wing (R&AW) may have initiated the honey-trap.
