Indian Punjab CM Amarinder Singh seeks two more favors from Pakistan

Indian Punjab CM Amarinder Singh seeks favors from Pakistani PM Imran Khan for the opening of two More Gurdwaras for Indians.

After the historic inauguration of Kartarpur Corridor, Indian Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh thanked Prime Minister Imran Khan for making the Sikh community’s dream come true.

According to the reports, Indian politician expressed his gratitude towards PM Imran and Indian PM Narendra Modi saying, “I thank PM Modi and PM Imran Khan for realizing the Sikh community’s dream of visiting Kartarpur Gurdwara.”

Punjab CM Amarinder Singh at Sultanpur Lodhi: I thank PM Modi&Pak PM Imran Khan for making the Sikh community’s dream true of visiting Kartarpur Gurdwara. I hope this would be followed by more such gurdwaras like Panja Sahib&Nankana Sahib in Pak being opened to Indian devotees.

He hoped that this move would be followed by further opening of such Gurdwaras like Panja Sahib and Nankana Sahib in Pakistan to Indian devotees.

On Nov 9, Prime Minister Imran Khan inaugurated historic Kartarpur Corridor which will facilitate the entry of the Sikh community to visit Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Narowal District.

The Indian Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh also described this initiative as a major beginning and expressed the confidence that it will lead to more such steps.

In a way this is good as the indian masses will be made aware that what our people left behind. I would say for other temples in pakistan, e.g., hinglaj mata. To renew the fervor. We need ot put them on backfoot show to the world what they have been doing.
Yes they will make money, which may make them live longer by few months but the main thing would be to make indian masses aware of their legacy on which entire pakistan is sitting

3. Gurudwaras are supposed to be 24x7 open for all people providing shelter, food, etc services by volunteers.
4. This was a very cheap PR exercise by Sidhu and Imran. People know about this.
5. If Sikhs are not given control of the Gurudwara (sewa and sambhal aka service and maintenance) then it is no good as during each ardas around the world Sikhs pray for this )
Thx. For the record In the first three days after a grand opening by PM 897 used the corridor. (229 ( on 10th)+122( on 11th) + 546 (on 12th)).

Yes!! sir

Real pilgrimage is any visit to the Guru which gives enlightenment. Guru Nanak says:
"No pilgrim-spot is equal to the Guru. The Guru is the river in whose water(Name), the filth of sin and evil thoughts, are washed off." (SGGS. 1329) "

Also! According to Guru Nanak real pilgrimage is to control the five vices.
Also! Guru Nanak said to the people visiting Mecca that "Shubh AMla baajhon doven royean" , "Without doing good deeds you who is doing Haj and myself who is not allowed to visit Mecca will cry"
Shubh Amal = Good Deeds
Baajhon = without
Dovoean =Both
Royean = will cry.

So! Where ever Guru Granth Sahib is placed is pilgrimage.

Most people go to different Gurudwaras (historical) for holiday recreation, service (Kar Sewa), curiosity, etc.

Guru Nanak visited many places (traveled over 35,000 miles) and places connected to him became Gurudwaras. Places where Gurus and Sikhs were murdered also became Gurudwaras (Dehra Sahib in Lahore for fifth Guru, Sees Ganj in Delhi for 9th Guru, Takht Hajoor Sahib in Nanded for 10th Guru., etc)

So These Gurudwaras are more like museums where they have kept clothes, shoes, weapons, utensils, etc associated with these Gurus which people want to see.

its true that there is no concept of pilgrimage in sikh philosophy as it is commonly understood. As per granth sahib , the real pilgrimage is within ...to the daswa dwar ( the 10th door/aperture). withdrawing attention from the senses to the 10th door where there is the nectar dripping every moment. controlling the 5 vices is to withdraw attention from the world..1) .nau dar thake dhavatu rahae, dasvai nijghari vasa pae (GG, 124) 2) dasam duara agam apara param purakh ki ghati (GG, 974) 3) nau ghar thape thapanharai dasvai vasa alakh aparai (GG, 1036). this is actually the sufi or bhkati understanding of pilgrimage. bulle shah says na rab tirath na rab makke... sajdhe kar kar ghis gaye mathe !! and kabir say ..na kabba mein na kailash mein..khoji ho turat mil jaye pal bhar ki talash mein.

Pakistan will no longer fight someone else's war in future: PM Imran - News Desk

Prime Minister Imran Khan said that Pakistan had suffered a lot due to its policy of becoming a part of foreign conflicts in the past, vowing that the country “from now onwards will only play a conciliatory role between rival nations”.

“One main lesson we have learned in the last four decades is that we must not ally ourselves with any country where we have to fight someone else’s war,” said the premier while addressing an international conference ‘Margalla Dialogue ’19’ – organised by Islamabad Policy Research Institute (IPRI) in the federal capital on Thursday.

“Initially [in the past] our governments thought that they would gain by becoming a frontline state for some powerful country… we gained something in the shape of foreign aid but in the end, if we analyse, we lost far far more than what we had gained,” he said, adding, “Many of the problems [our] country have been facing today is the results of the flawed decisions made during 1980s and 1990s.”

PM Imran reaffirms resolve to make Pakistan an Islamic welfare state

Speaking on the issue of Kashmir conflict, the premier said that after coming into power he tried his best to mend ties with India as both the countries are facing same grave challenges of climate change and poverty.

“India is in the grip of extremist ideology and their ideology is based on hatred and racial superiority which is similar to the ideology of the Nazi party in Germany,” he added.

Premier said that when the Nazi party came into power in Germany no one had idea where it was heading to and “today India is facing the similar situation”.

He warned that if the international community did not intervene in the Kashmir conflict “there will be catastrophe as the two nuclear armed countries have come face-to-face”.

‘Illegal’ move

On August 5, India had stripped occupied Kashmir of the special autonomy it had for seven decades through a rushed presidential order.

By repealing Article 370 of the constitution, people from the rest of India will now have the right to acquire property in the disputed territory and settle there permanently.

Kashmiris see the move as an attempt to dilute the demographics of Muslim-majority Kashmir with Hindu settlers.

Pakistan had strongly condemned the move and vowed to “exercise all possible options to counter the illegal steps” taken by New Delhi.

Some sources say Aatish Taseer has U.K. citizenship. If so how did he acquire that? Through his father’s side? (Born in London with a British-Pakistani father). It would be disingenuous to disown the father for OCI but claim him for U.K. citizenship. Does anyone know the reality?

I believe that information too must be in GoI's record to be brought out at an appropriate date, along with the hospital records.

Of course, UK instituted a Restricted jus soli (citizenship upon birth) only on January 1, 1983. So anyone born in the UK before that would be a citizen of UK since birth.

However, British nationality could be inherited (only one generation) prior to 1983. So if Salman Taseer was a dual national, his son could easily acquire British nationality.

How ironic that those who appealed to Western governments to deny Modi a single visit Visa and so demonized him, now appeal to the same Modi to break the law and and issue an OCI to Taseer, so that he may avoid applying for a Visa like any other foreigner. All to visit an India that they claim cannot survive a second Modi term and has turned into a right wing dictatorship.

Only as that empire fell apart in the second half of the 20th century did reliance on the concepts of jus soli and subjecthood start to waver. The British Nationality Act of 1948 created a “citizen” category, and in the 1970s and 1980s requirements for special ties to the United Kingdom were introduced to jus soli citizenship, eventually requiring the permanent residency in the U.K. of at least one parent.

Hand over 'wanted Indians' living in Pakistan if serious about better ties with India: Jaishankar to Islamabad

- The relation is difficult since many years, mainly because Pak has developed an important terrorist industry and sends terrorists to India to carry out attacks. Pakistan itself does not deny this situation: Jaishankar

- For example, there are Indians wanted for terrorist activities living in Pak. We are telling Pak: Hand them over to us, he said, in a clear reference to criminals like underworld don Dawood Ibrahim

LONDON: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has said relations with Pakistan remain "difficult" because it openly practices terrorism against India, and if Islamabad is serious to cooperate with New Delhi, it should hand over the Indians wanted for terrorist activities living in Pakistan.

In a wide-ranging interview with French daily Le Monde, the minister said Pakistan does not deny sending terrorists to India.

The relationship is difficult since many years, mainly because Pakistan has developed an important terrorist industry and sends terrorists to India to carry out attacks. Pakistan itself does not deny this situation," he said, in response to a question about Pakistan foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi's recent statement that relations with India are "close to zero".

"Now, tell me which country would be willing to talk and negotiate with a neighbour who openly practices terrorism against it ... We need actions that demonstrate a real willingness to cooperate.

"For example, there are Indians wanted for terrorist activities living in Pakistan. We are telling Pakistan: Hand them over to us," he said, in a clear reference to criminals like underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, who is believed to be hiding in Pakistan.

Dawood, originally from Dongri in Mumbai, is wanted for murder, extortion, targeted killing, drug trafficking, terrorism and various other cases. His name figured in the United Nations Security Council's updated list of terrorists and militant groups in 2018.

On the situation in Kashmir, Jaishankar said the "reforms" in August, when India revoked Article 370 to withdraw the special status of the region, led to some precautionary measures to avert the danger of violent reactions from radical and separatist elements but that the situation was now returning to normal.

"These restrictions have been gradually reduced, and as the situation normalises, telephone and mobile lines have been restored, shops are open and apple harvest is under way. The situation is back to normal," he said, adding that foreign journalists would be welcome to the region as soon as things are safe.

Asked about the tide of "nationalism" in India, Jaishankar reiterated that India's nationalism should not be viewed through western lens.

"Each country has a different understanding of nationalism, a different history. In the United States, it has an isolationist connotation. In Asia, at least in India, nationalism is a positive word," he said.

On a question related to tensions arising out of nationalism for minorities, he reiterated: "It is my country that defines my nationality, not my religion, nor my caste, nor my language.

"The concept of nation is different. In India, we are in a sense a civilization state, with natural, linguistic, ethnic and religious diversity. We have never considered uniformity as a necessity or an aspiration. There are few places in the world where you will see so many people with so many beliefs co-existing."

In the interview which covered a wide spectrum of topics, from India-China relations to the India-US dynamic, the external affairs minister was categorical about India's growing importance in a world where power will be more dispersed across a range of actors.

"We are in a completely different world. We tend to consider the post-1945 bipolar world and the post-1992 American world as the norm. But look at the history of the world. Things change, nothing is engraved in stone. This world will be different, power will be more dispersed, there will be more actors," he said.

Asked if Europe would be one such actor, he noted that India would be in favour of that.

"We are a deeply democratic country … in a democratic world, Europe must have a greater role," he said.

On India and China, the minister said that both countries shared a common interest in making the world more inclusive and a re-balancing of the world requires re-balancing with Asia, and in Asia, which covers primarily with India and China.

"We are two great countries and it is in our common interest to have good relationships," he said.

You were born before 1983

You’re automatically a British citizen if you were born in the UK before 1 January 1983, unless:

* your father was a diplomat working for a non-UK country
* your father was ‘an enemy alien in occupation’ and you were born in the Channel Islands during World War 2

Gunmen kill senior CTD police official in Peshawar
https://apnews.com/aee7fd75bbaf4c3b809929bccecbd09f
PESHAWAR, Pakistan (AP) — Pakistani police say gunmen opened fire on a police vehicle, killing a senior counter-terrorism officer and wounding his driver and a passer-by before fleeing the scene.

Police chief Zahur Babar Afridi in northwestern city of Peshawar says deputy superintendent of police, Ghani Khan, was killed in Thursday’s attack, which occurred on the city outskirts. The police officials said acting DSP Ghani Khan was attached with the police’s counter-terrorism department.

No one immediately claimed responsibility and the motive behind the attack was unclear. However, the slain officer had led several raids on militant hideouts in recent years.

QUETTA: At least three policemen were killed and four others injured in a remote-controlled blast targetting a police mobile in Quetta’s Buleli area on Friday.

After the blast, ambulances reached the area and shifted the wounded to a nearby hospital. Police and Frontier Corps personnel cordoned off the area soon after the blast.

On Monday, a blast targeting a police van in Quetta wounded nine people, including three policemen. According to reports, the blast took place after explosives were planted on a motorcycle on Quetta’s Spinny Road.

This is the third incident in a series of blasts targetting police personnel in Balochistan’s provincial capital over past few months. Last week, at least one person was killed in an explosion at the city’s Double Road which had left 10 people wounded.
