In an act of preemptive conviviality, I proffer my felicitation for an effulgent, affluent, sanguine neoteric annum of the venerable almanac based on both lunar and solar circumambulation.

Happy New Year and a great decade ahead.

Bangladesh shuts down telecoms along India border citing security concerns
ReutersDecember 31, 2019, 3:04 AM CST
By Ruma Paul

DHAKA (Reuters) - Muslim-majority Bangladesh has ordered telecom operators to shut down services along the border with India, citing security concerns over Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's new citizenship law which critics say discriminates against Muslims.

Mobile network coverage has been suspended for a one-kilometer-wide band along the border with India until further notice "for the sake of the country's security in the current circumstances", officials said in a statement released late on Monday.

The move stems from concerns that Indian Muslims might seek to flee to Bangladesh, two officials told Reuters. They spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to publicly discuss the measure.

The Indian law gives citizenship rights to Hindus, Sikhs, Christians, Jains, Buddhists and Parsis from Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Pakistan who settled in India before 2015 - but not to Muslims.

Critics fear it is a prelude to a broader National Register of Citizens in which residents would be asked to prove their citizenship, which activists say could put poor Muslim families lacking documentation at a disadvantage.

India's foreign ministry did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Bangladesh's move.

The two countries share a fertile border of more than 4,000 km (2,500 miles). Millions of Bangladeshis live alongside the frontier, mainly engaged in cross-border trade of medicines, agricultural commodities, milk and livestock.

"The decision to suspend mobile services could impact about 10 million people living on the border," said a senior official at a mobile phone company in Dhaka.

Indian news website ThePrint on Monday reported that Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had sought a written assurance from the Hindu-nationalist Modi government that it would not expel illegal immigrants across the border.

Hasina's office was not immediately available to comment on the news report.

Earlier this month, Bangladesh's Foreign Ministry said one senior diplomat was attacked during a protest in India's northeastern state of Assam, which shares a border with Bangladesh and has the highest incidence of illegal immigration from its neighbor.

This article is perpetuating so many falsehoods that it qualifies for gold star for fake news.

No mention of the keyword "refugees of minority communities" fleeing religious persecution in the three countries.

You gotta be kidding me. So BD expects India to not deport illegals  .
Also, how does disabling service 1km from border going to prevent anything. That distance can be covered by foot in 10-15 minutes. I'm sure there is some other game afoot here.

^^^ Could be both but my analysis is based on two pointers : 1) POK PM admitting that he will be the last PM. 2) Noises from china at UN pointed that something was in works. We will have to wait and watch

Deny Bangladeshis illegally in India without a Visa from owning property, getting mobile cards , bank account etc. And they will get back voluntarily. We should also allow more legal framework where they can come and work with Visas.

The internet shutdown is to prevent cross border illegal migration agents from communicating with one another and with their customers (meaning, illegal migrants) after assessing easier points of crossing along the border. As to the Bangladesh government wanting assurance from India about expulsion of illegal migrants, that is just for local consumption. They will simply deny any of them as native citizens of their country. Not one person is going to be officially deported. If they crossover on their own, that's something else.

All this while - Pakistan had provided a fig leaf to the world by having a separate PM and flag for occupied JnK - to spread falsehood that PorK was an independent entity under it protectorate. Now will not annexing mean that Pakistan has now officially captured territory and give an open invite to India to recapture it back ? Not that it matters to us and India was not waiting for this - but will Pakistan not loose its narrative on the world forum that it was peddling till now ?

Paki narrative no longer would matter if Chinese want their investments to be protected. The paid whore has no option.
It would make zilch of a difference to Indian or Paki stand on Kashmir. Pakhis would still spin it while for India, The target of taking back POK would always be on the cards irrespective of the status.

They are already quite deeply embedded in the innards of the Indian state, sucking away at the benefits, displacing genuine Indians from the jobs meant for them and sending back money to beediland and causing serious law and order problems as inspired by their sharia mandated congregational tendencies. These unwashed, unwelcome creeps see India as their legitimate lebensraum.

They invariably have better Indian documentation ( more than likely to be false) that is more complete than what many Indians themselves can boast of. How exactly do you plan to identify such termites invariably shielded/protected/coddled by vested and venal political interests seeling to keep their votebanks intact.

Many beedi ghuspaitis have the same aadhar cards that we have and they have been obtained in the very same way that we have obtained our cards. They have used these genuine aadhar cards to generate other documents and proof of residence.

ask the beedi govt to explain how so many billions of dollars from India are getting repatriated back to beediland as remittances. How do these remittances get generated from India if there are no beedi termites in India.

but the official position of the silly beedi govt is that there is not one single solitary illegal beedi in India and they have held on to this position for decades.

why allow them into India when we don't have enough jobs for our own people. This is the illogical liberal route to social hara kiri and sure shot anarchy

What is shown as remittances is official figure. One can bet that there is much larger amount which goes by Hawala way. This Hawala funds all kinds of criminal things.
Aadhar Card is not citizenship proof. So no issues there.

The main issues is the corruption in the state level officials who are to do this NRC work. Add the Mamatha and other fellows actively opposing things. We will have huge scope for BDs to escape. AS already made a statement that they have learned lessons form Assam NRC work and this time the process will be done more professionally. So I do hope we will have some good efforts this time.

By it's very nature jamming mobile communications can only be a temporary thing. BD is calculating that there may be a one time influx of BD nationals in the wake of the new law. Perhaps those who haven't yet settled in India with economic and political legitimacy and fear that the going may be tough in the days to come. So playing it safe by going back.

yechury was sent to nepal to deal with prachanda, who had usurped power in maoist rebellion. Yechury's negotiation prevented prachanda from turning nepal into a communist state and kept the kingdom as a republic with representative parliamentary form of govt appointed through elections.

The Hindu kingdom of nepal is now lost forever and the commies have become all powerful and they dominate the political scene.

however much of lipstick one applies on a commie pig, a commie pig it will continue to remain.

India has been uprooted from nepal and gradually, over time, supplanted by the chinese and yet very foolishly we see fit to maintain an open, unsecured and very vulnerable border with them with only random and rudimentary checks that can and are easily being bypassed routinely.

indeed "a representative parliamentary form of govt appointed through elections" is one way to put it but in actual fact, another very harsh reality stares one in the face.

The nepalese army is heavily seeded with prachanda's rabid maoist terrorist cadres who prachanda made sure were inducted into the army. He has ensured that all these cadres are well fed, well clothed and comfortably housed by the government while remaining loyal to him personally. He thus has a unshakeable hold on the army, a solid hold which will not allow the forces including the police to be allowed to oppose him.

prachanda, backed by the hans, is the actual power and also the power behind any non commie mukhota who is allowed by him to become the "head" of "a representative parliamentary form of govt appointed through elections"

yech-ury, who was actually sent to bolster and preserve India's long standing presence in nepal, was responsible for the decline and consequent supplantation of India's presence in nepal, slyly doing the very opposite of what he was sent to do and in the process, trashing, as it were, the centuries of ancient civilizational ties that bound together Hindus on both sides of the border.

Very predictably, into the breach created by these two communists, rushed in the conversion vultures who were very hungry for their blood harvest of Hindu souls and the opportunity to create an independent xtian state virtually at India's very doorstep.

these conversion vultures, having failed to do the same with their ltte fronted "eelam" project in srilanka, they are now trying to do in nepal what they could not do in srilanka. Matters have become complicated for them because it turns out that the hans, for quite some time now, have had their own CPEC/BRI related agenda for nepal quietly bubbling away in one of their military tended cauldrons in beijing.

BTW, "commie" prachanda is a xtian himself as indeed are very many of his followers. A vast majority of "maoists" in India are also xtian and they are openly and actively aided by the conversion vultures just like "maoist" prachanda was.

But of course, very much like yech-ury himself, they all tag themselves as "atheists" which sounds more culture friendly and non threatening when wining and dining in five star restaurants with "sympathetic" foreign donors.

you are dramatizing the situation with a political twist. Nothing of this massive sell out thing happened, in reality nepal was already sold out and maoists had nepal by it scruff. Yechury was just a rubber stamp, he simply agreed to whatever the communists wanted. There was no other choice short of war with nepali communists in their backyard. Now Manmohan Singh cannot go to Nepal to agree with communist agenda so Yechury was sent along with DB Tripathi of NCP.

Karan Singh was sent before Yechury and he had family relations with Nepal royal family and he was sent to protect their interests. The communists rejected his proposals and thay is why Yechury was sent.

Karan Singh was sent before Yechury and he had family relations with Nepal royal family and he was sent to protect their interests. The communists rejected his proposals and thay is why Yechury was sent.

you are right about one thing.

without a doubt, what happened in nepal certainly had a political twist.

Voter ID for Rs 150 and assurance of a vote heres why Mamata opposes NRC so fiercely

Highlights
Political interference that deterred officials from eliminating the threat of radical Islamisation by way of sending illegal immigrants from Bangladesh, raids that have unearthed fake voter ID cards, all point to the involvement of those who seek to protect their vested interests by using immigrants and put national security at risk by opposing NRC

In the midst of a heated debate around the NRC, there are several videos doing the rounds in which Bangladeshi nationals are heard saying that they have Indian voter cards and have voted for a particular party in the Opposition, that helped them get these cards.

The NRC is a hot topic and would need to be implemented urgently in the states of West Bengal, Kerala and Karnataka. Although Mamata Banerjee has gone on a rampage against the NRC, the fact remains that it needs to be implemented there first as it is the entry point and it is there where they first procure official government documents.

Operation Bengal:
In the early 1990s, the Research and Analysis Wing carried out a dangerous mission against the Jamaat-e-Islami. A team of the R&AW was sent to Bangladesh to find out about this evil design and it was learnt that the JeI had planned on sending scores of Bangladeshis into India with an intention of carrying out Islamic, land and economic jihad.

Top officers who were part of the mission tell MyNation they had managed to scuttle the plans to a large extent. However, over a period of time, political interference and the local politics in India ensured the flow of illegal immigrants from Bangladesh into India.

Today, there is a standard procedure that every illegal immigrant follows. With the help of touts, they enter Bengal, look for shelter in Kazipara, which is a Muslim dominated area. While some undertake odd jobs, the rest opt to purchase an autorickshaw or Toto. The touts provide them with the money for the down payment and over a period of time, they repay the amount.

Statistics would go on to suggest that in border towns such as Barsat, the Bangladeshis have outnumbered the Indians. They have been coming in since the past three decades and settling down in these towns.

Indians or Bangladeshis:
This brings us to the issue of procuring valid government documents. If one were to do a census at Barsat with the help of the government documents, it would suggest that all of them are Indian nationals.

This is because almost all these illegal immigrants have voter cards and other government documents. Once they come in, they first take up small jobs or purchase Totos. These persons then stay on for a year, before their touts get them valid government documents. They first get a voter identification, following by a PAN and then ration card.

Once they procure these documents, they begin moving to other parts of the country. The influx is so high that Bengal has been extremely populated with these illegal immigrants. This is why they have started moving to other parts of the country. However, on voting day, they have to be back in Bengal or the place they infiltrated into, failing which the tout will ensure that he or she is pushed back to Bangladesh.

As cheap as Rs 150:
On January 7, 2013, Mumbai Police arrested 13 persons on the charge that they were illegal immigrants. The raid was conducted on P D’Mello Road at a fancy hotel. These persons claimed to be Indian nationals. The police however became suspicious when the Bengali dialect sounded different.

During the probe, the police found on these persons, Aadhaar cards, voter identification cards, a certificate from a Sarpanch in West Bengal. A driving licence issued at the Mumbai RTO was also found on them. They told the police that their agent had helped procure these documents.

In the year 2012, Mumbai Police found that a large number of Bangladeshis had managed to enter Mumbai. A raid was conducted at Wadala and 48 Bangladeshis were arrested. All of them worked at a construction site. In the year 2012 alone, Mumbai police arrested 1,121 Bangladeshis from the city.

Each one of them were found with a voter identification card sourced from West Bengal. When questioned they said that they had procured these cards through their touts in Bengal for Rs 150. Others also told the police that the tout had given them the cards on the pre-condition that they would have to return whenever there is an election being held.

As recently as October 2019, Bengaluru Police had rounded off 60 persons during a raid. The police conducted this operation based on a tip off by the Intelligence Bureau about the presence of Bangladeshis in the city. During this raid too, the police had found Aadhaar cards, voter identification cards among other documents.

The voter ID racket:
Pakipara, in Bongaon, West Bengal is located around 4 kilometres away from the International Border with Bangladesh. This is one of the many towns where there is a voter ID card racket.

During one raid, the officials seized sophisticated equipment from the accused. The machine was used to replicate the logo of the Election Commission of India on the voter ID card. In addition to this, a computer and a printer too were seized. The machines were also used make passports and driving licences as well. These documents would be prepared and then handed over to the illegal immigrants.

Investigations revealed that the photos in the voter ID cards would be replaced, following which they would change the name and place the photograph of the illegal immigrant on it.

Officials say that the voter ID racket works both ways. In the earlier days, they would get the genuine one from the election commission after producing fake documents. Today, they are using fake ones as the number of these immigrants has gone up considerably. Further this ID helps them move around the country with the protection of a document.

Statistics speak:
The latest report by the National Crime Records Bureau does not paint a pretty picture. Bengal accounts for 61.9% of the foreign prisoners in the country. Further 1,284 out of the 1,403 Bangladeshi convicts are from Bengal alone.

These statistics are not alarming in the least, since the Bangladesh-India corridor is the second most used corridor in the world by migrants. While Bengal in 2017 accounted for 61.9% of foreign prisoners in the country, in the year 2016, the figures stood at 57.6%.

These Bangladeshis in jail have not been convicted only for being illegal immigrants. The cases against them range from counterfeiting Indian currency, drug smuggling, rape, murder and terrorism. The latest Home Ministry report also cites the high levels of radicalisation being undertaken by these elements in Murshidabad and Burdwan. The Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen, Bangladesh has roped in several Bangladeshis and even opened up a large number of Madrasas to undertake an extensive radicalisation drive.

In Uttar Pradesh, there is a drive to identify illegal Bangladeshis. A verification drive is being launched after various reports suggested the presence of these persons and even said that most of them had become a security risk. The police would carry out this exercise at railway stations, new colonies and bus stations to identify the illegal immigrants.

Those crying about human rights must also realise that the illegal immigrants were used in the Burdwan terror case, the Bengaluru serial blasts and the Bodhgaya blast case. It was found that a large number of operatives had moved to Mallapuram after the attacks. There are camps set up for the Bengali speaking people in Kerala and these persons stay at these camps and mix with them.

Further, it has also been found in at least three probes by the National Investigation Agency that the illegal immigrants are used couriers of the fake currency that is manufactured in Malda, West Bengal.

Shiv Sena 'betrayed' BJP, public mandate in Maharashtra: Devendra Fadnavis – PTI#

PALGHAR: Former Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday accused the Shiv Sena of "betraying" the public mandate by forging an alliance with the NCP and Congress to form government after the state elections.

Addressing a rally here, Fadnavis asked people to give a befitting reply to the Uddhav Thackeray-led party in the upcoming zilla parishad polls in Palghar.

It is unfortunate that the Shiv Sena has to compromise with those who "abused" Hindutva ideologue V D Savarkar, the BJP leader said, wondering how many days the Thackeray-led government will survive amid the "infighting".

The Sena not only "betrayed" the public mandate but also its pre-poll ally BJP with which it jointly contested the assembly elections, he alleged.

Fadnavis said in the assembly polls held in October last year, the BJP won 70 per cent of the seats that it contested and emerged as the single largest party, while the Shiv Sena bagged only 45 per cent of the seats that it fought.

"Citizens gave a clear mandate to the BJP-Shiv Sena combine, but unfortunately due to betrayal by the Sena, which joined hands with the NCP and Congress, the BJP has to remain out of power, " the leader of opposition in the assembly said.

Hitting out at chief minister and Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray for "betraying" the BJP, he said from day one (since Sena formed government with the NCP and Congress), the three parties were not able to decide the names of ministers.

"Even after the selection of ministers, there is growing discontent among the Shiv Sena leaders and activists, and in case of the Congress, its activists have even gone to the extent of ransacking their party offices, " he said.

Notably, some supporters of Congress MLA Sangram Thopte attacked the party office in Pune on Tuesday to protest against his non-inclusion in the Maharashtra ministry.

Fadnavis said people of Maharashtra gave a "clear majority to the BJP-Shiv Sena combine" to form government, but later things took a different turn and citizens have a witness to the political developments in the state.

"It is unfortunate that it took weeks (for the Thackeray-led alliance) to finalise government formation and then form the Cabinet, " the BJP leader said.

On the farm loan waiver scheme announced by Thackeray, he said, "It is nothing but an eyewash and several conditions are attached to it, as a result of which nearly 60 lakh farmers in the state will not get benefit of the scheme."

The Shiv Sena made "tall claims" that the 7/12 (land title) of farmers would be wiped clean (of liabilities).

"They have taken the farmers for a ride and none of them will get the benefit, " Fadnavis said, while recalling that Thackeray had earlier demanded Rs 25,000 per hectare for farmers who suffered from crop losses.

"Now, they have gone back on their word, " he alleged.

Fadnavis said when the Shiv Sena is queried about it, the party points fingers at Prime Minister Narendra Modi (for assistance).

"Did you ask Modiji when you joined hands with the NCP and Congress? No doubt, Modiji will help you, but remember farmers and citizens of the state will make your (Shiv Sena's) political slate blank and show you the door, " he said.

This government will be controlled not from 'Matoshree' (Thackeray's residence in Mumbai), but by the "Matoshree of Delhi", Fadnavis said in sarcastic remarks, apparently referring to the top Congress leadership.

On Uddhav Thackeray's comments that he gave a word to his father late Balasaheb Thackeray of making a Shiv Sainik the chief minister of Maharashtra, Fadnavis asked if the CM said he would do so with the help of the NCP and Congress.

"Balashaeb will be crying in heaven if he learns about the Sena's move in the state politics," he said.

He asked BJP activists to go to every house in Palghar and tell them about the work done by the party in the last five years.

in reality nepal was already sold out and maoists had nepal by it scruff. Yechury was just a rubber stamp, he simply agreed to whatever the communists wanted.

Meaning insurgency?! Like protests with arms over decades before 2014. By the way how come only mr Yechuri (communist and Christian) was sent and no one else like Hindu and communist.. UPA seemed to not find one even though Nepal was 100% Hindu then.

some whatsapp groups are saying that farhan akthar is bucking for a rajya sabha seat just like his father javed and stepmother shabana got after they licked the congis.

farhan is licking both the congi as well as the ncp backsides hoping that one of them will come through. his dad is working the back channels and old contacts to try and clear the way for his son.

both parties are very heavily malsi pasand right now because of the CAA controversy that they are both openly raking up and also covertly supporting

Actually quite common practice worldwide. Photo gets updated plus any new features like biometric chip. The old one is handed in for destruction.
