That is one of the reasons India is content to let China provide low end pharmaceuticals. Apparently their organic chemistry chops are great.

We should just do what China did - license the patent at the government level and ramp up manufacturing asap.

Copper has known virucidal and bactericidal properties. It has been used since antiquity to prevent and treat infections. Romans used to put shavings off their sword blades into wounds.

Around 1850, reduced risk of cholera was reported in Nature among copper workers in several epidemics.

I hope Italians can provide some data on the odds ratio of contracting the Wuhan virus in people who wear copper bracelets (as a 'treatment' for arthritis) and those who do not carry copper objects on their person.

Perhaps it's the copper in the lockets that is more efficacious than the picture of the saint.

Maybe its time to start wearing amulets :!:

Mumbai prepares to quarantine 26k Indians coming from Gulf

Oh God!! I thought we are not allowing anymore incoming flights. Most of them would be poorly educated muslims. Good luck keeping them in quarantine for 14 days.

Even if we are allowing incoming flights, we should stagger it over several weeks so we are not over whelmed with cases.

A doctor accompanies a suspected foreign returned relative to testing center. The girl tests positive. Now the doctor is in quarantine along with 4 other doctors he met.

A US returned techie, instead of being in quarantine for 14 days, plays tennis in 3 different courts, go to the cinema with his family. Now he has tested positive. What should be done with these people? Morons.

So most of the spread in India are been done by educated, well to do people, whose attitude seems to be "who father what goes".

If there is a community transmission, these people should be charged for murder.

Behavior of induvidual people will be difficult to control, for obvious reasons...the 'tu kaun hota hai be poochne waaala' syndrome. The question is- how do you enforce breakouts from quarantine ? The arresting constables will get infected, and be out of commission in a few days, and you dont want the already understaffed police force to thin down evern further.

Then you have this....a 5000-strong anti-CAA protest in Chennai today, by the usual suspects... maybe they are immune from the Wuhan virus.

First case of stamped passengers breaking quarantine detected by alert passengers in garib rath train. But these could also be surat residents who alighted at mumbai from germany and on their way home.

IMO, seeing the reckless behaviour of the trio from italy in kerala, london returned techie in bengaluru and many more who broke the quarantine rule, I am in favour of stamping at all airports in India just like it is done in mumbai currently.

Brix, the top boss on the Covid Taskforce has already warned that numbers will jump in the next few days because of rapid distribution of tests. So - this should not be a surprise. IIRC in the earlier video I posted, the mathematical calculation was 8x more infected than declared - based on a CFR of 1% and 5 day incubation average plus 15 day treatment (till death) period.

The skyrocketing number is not such an issue imho. It is the situation in Italy and France where younger people are landing up in trouble in increasing numbers. The death rate in Italy is a caution.

The game has moved to Spain, those stupid fukers held a feminist march in the midst of the breakout and now it is on the way to overtake italy.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8126305/Britons-told-leave-Spain-Madrid-closes-hotels.html
The outbreak in Spain has become the worst in Europe outside Italy, with more than 13,700 people infected and 598 dead.

Britons made nearly 19million visits to Spain last year, and many British expats live in the country, meaning many holiday plans are likely to be ruined by the outbreak.

Idiots abound everywhere https://www.sfchronicle.com/bayarea/article/SF-slammed-over-crowded-Embarcadero-with-little-15141015.php#photo-19189687

I think a change in strategy is required. The goal is to protect the elderly, not to overwhelm the ICUs and that is what we do.

We start setting up a medical facility in each district where we can take the critically ill and particularly the elderly population and go from there. Start training local staff on critical care for flu right away.

And all of the charge off be done with the elitist SOBs moving around.

Assuming the summary is correct, Now we know why they're saying this isolation thing could continue for many months. Basically can't let up until vaccine is found.

Few weeks back my son who lives in bay area and does come in contact with Chinese at work came down with sore throat and cough but he had no fever. At that time no panic, no quarantine etc. about this Covid19 Some of these Chinese returned from China at that time and worked within his team. He called his go to doctor (his mom) and she prescribed azithromycin. His cough went away and he got better. But we do not know what he contacted. He is in early thirties without any underlying medical issues and so has reasonably good immunity. Still the question is did he get Covid19 and got well or did he get just plain old cough and sore throat and that went away. Did the Zpak play any role in this? Considering that this happened several weeks ago he can not be tested now (he does not meet the protocol as he exhibits no symptoms now) and even then it may turn out nothing. In short we will never know.

My wife gets this every year a few times. Cough, sore throat, fatigue etc. But no fever. She got this last week as well. We were shit scared. No medication, but tylenol. Some cough medication she still had handy from her last episode. She is better, and I can see strength returning. I have seen this in her the last 2 years or so. Could be a variation of some nasty thing.

Azithromycin is primarily an antibiotic, used to treat bacterial pneumonia. In most cases of viral infections it has little effect, you will get better whether or not you take it, and that's including COVID-19. Plenty of people take zinc, vitamin C, garlic, etc. and they swear by it, but the truth is that they most likely would've gotten better without it.

With that said, Azithromycin is in fact often used for two other purposes. First is that it has some level of anti-inflammatory properties, so it's sometimes used when a patient has severe acute bronchitis whether it's due to a viral infection or an exacerbation of a chronic bronchitis (i.e. COPD). Second, in certain patients with chronic lung diseases, they're often at risk of developing secondary bacterial infection during a flare, which may be secondary to a viral infection or sometimes just exposure to allergens or chemicals. Azithromycin is used in this case to treat any brewing secondary bacterial infection or to prevent one.

the whole february data is faulty. We can't make any guesses on it. Chinese didn't disclose which age group died most or how people actually died. based on what we know of Italy situation, we can assume it infects everyone and the hospitals are queued with least immunity to higher immunity patients. the symptoms may have first appeared in weak immunity group who happened to be mostly old folks. Later same symptoms appeared in higher immunity group too. They had to prioritize the higher group.

the virus focus is only on immunity not age. It will climb up from weak to high over the period of time. it might also evolve/mutate during this time which will make even higher immunity also useless. only deadpool can survive in that situation.

our only hope is available drugs. Once we(indians) reach critical stage, we will pump every combination of drugs available to us which are plenty. something going to stick by mid april, hopefully. It will turn the tide and then mass production and the fight back. meanwhile someone will come up with a working vaccine. happy ending.

Yes, stupidity and selfishness. You're not depriving me of my pursuit of happiness as an individual. The Far East -- Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore -- who were closest to Cheen and got hit the hardest and earliest seems to have weathered this the best. When their government tells them to get the hell off the streets they listen. This is one instance where individualism harms rather than helps.

Though we are making a lot of mistakes (mostly entitled jokers not following rules) I am hopeful, since Europe & US have had a 6x increase in cases from week 3 to 4 and then 4 to 5 - which is what you will get in a community transmission.

the most affected regions of italy have these common risk factors.

high pollution levels.

A large percentage of those affected are smokers and italians are heavy smokers

one in four of the population in these regions is above the age of 65.

EU is aging fast and has a higher population of those above 65

The one way to enforce self-quarantine and self-reporting is to start cancelling passports of people who have broken the mandated quarantine.

Make such cancellation a BIG tv event till it it drilled into each returnees head that their future foreign trip for work or study or pleasure is at risk.

The Legality of such a move can be discussed in the courts at a later date BUT the message will go out to the yuppies loud and clear.

Can the Virus spread due to ingestion of contaminated water?
1) Say someone sneezes and droplets land in water and someone else drinks the water will they get affected?
2) Secondarily if case 1 is true what is time that virus is viable in water as compared to solid surfaces which are common fomites such as handles, hands, utensils etc

Its an excellent idea. I think we should publicise it in all possible ways. I have written to PMO.
Also - Employers of people who have broken quarantine (incl. big name IT companies) should be asked to sack them immediately.
All those breaking quarantine should be named and shamed. Put up posters and let SC / usual suspects object.
People who have come in to contact with any of the quarantine breakers should be helped to file cases against them.
Anyone making a false self declaration at the airport should be arrested.
All quarantine breakers (with retrospect effect) should be arrested and kept in solitary if they are positive and with other cellmates, if negative (they will them ask to be in solitary).

Now what to say about such people's politician ??

Francisco “Mickky” Pacheco was one among 43 passengers on board the Dubai-Bangalore Air India flight. It later became to the knowledge of authorities that a 67-year-old passenger on board the flight tested positive for coronavirus disease Covid-19 in Bengaluru, prompting Goa health department to trace and identify the 43 passengers on board the flight to get them to self quarantine.

4% this quarter and 14% next quarter, and for the year is likely to shrink 1.5%, a JP Morgan economist said on Wednesday, in one of the most dire forecasts yet issued for the potential hit from the coronavirus epidemic.
U.S. chief economist Michael Feroli also forecast unemployment to rise to 6.25% by the middle of the year before easing to about 5.25% by year end as economic growth restarts.

This is the destabilizing part of the story, if lockdown continues like this with no job or money staring at starving family members and the supply chain gets shot, expect street justice to bat eaters or full blow war.
