Re: 2020 US election results discussion
The key takeaway now is that polling is bunk and the mainstream media is discredited. This includes the anti-India press like the NYT and WaPo.

Trump wins Texas
Donald Trump has officially won Texas and its crucial 38 electoral votes, the AP just announced.

Are BLM and Antifa out in force yet ?
Foxnews showing 238 for Biden and 213 for Trump. What are the chances of Mail-in votes sealing it in favor of Biden?

Ro Khanna's been called for CA District 17. Ritesh Tandon put up a good fight, but not enough to win in a very blue district.
Betfair currently as Trump at 1.44 and Biden at 2.8 . About 2 hrs ago as Biden surgen, it was about 1.8 for Trump vs 2.1 to Biden. But since then the momentum has moved back to Trump as his odds improved.

Re: 2020 US election results discussion
Looks like this is headed to the courts. Some states have stopped counting and there is the fear of ballot box stuffing.
Re: 2020 US election results discussion
I do not understand why Trump is so eager to declare that he is leading. At the end of the day final results will come out. What is there to gain by pushing and shoving to be in the lead? Does it affect the outcome of a court battle in any way?
Re: 2020 US election results discussion
Not so simple. Comparing with 2016, Trump is trending to only lose Arizona and a couple of other votes (one Nebraska district, possible one in Maine), so it's possible that he stays on for 4 more.Dilbu wrote:Biden 224

There may be a lot of recounting and court battles to come, but margins are pretty clear. Despite all the negativity in the media about Trump, his actual turnout has been quite excellent given the circumstances and his very real limitations - as in 2016, it looks like a vote against the unlovable Democratic candidates rather than a vote for Trump.
Re: 2020 US election results discussion
USA has become a deeply divided nation. I wonder how Chinese would be looking to profit from this electoral struggle. Maybe they are planning/flaming more riots?
Re: 2020 US election results discussion
Biden wins Arizona and Maine
Re: 2020 US election results discussion
It's clear the Chinese/Russkies hand in the elections is overplayed. Mainstream media which we suspected to be left leaning showed its ignorance of the American voter with its innumerable surveys showing Biden with an unbeatable margin - which is proving to be untrue. Conspiracy theorists on both sides were eagerly awaiting some major expose right ahead of the elections. Meanwhile what we have here is a divided nation voting along the same predictable lines of 2016, with very few anti-incumbency trends. If the pandemic taking the wind out of American sails, and Trump's botched handling thereof has not affected the leanings of the voter, then nothing ever will. Democrats have as much claim of the outcome by fielding a geriatric white guy with questionable business interests together with an opportunistic rainbow woman, neither of who can draw away the Red or undecided voter.AshishA wrote:USA has become a deeply divided nation. How will China benefit? The "Yiwu Index" predicted Trump would win based on the quantum of swag sold by Yiwu based producers to the Trump campaign. Surely a lot of MAGA caps were sold and dished out by Trump. Otherwise it's a blip and back to normal, as the virus becomes less deadly and life returns to its pre-covid version in America. Expect less rhetoric on the Mexican wall and more focus on China; this will hardly be a good thing for China whichever way they look at it. Pence/Pompeo in 2024 is the one they should worry about now.

The election is closer than many people expected.

Trump has to win all of Pensylvania, Michigan, Georgia and North Carolina to sail through if he loses Wisconsin.
Re: 2020 US election results discussion
US election 2020 live: Biden has narrow lead over Trump in Wisconsin as result awaited
Hillary Clinton garnered 2.87m more votes than Donald Trump in 2016. This time around, Joe Biden has expanded his lead in the popular tally to 2.2m votes – and it appears to have quite a ways to grow yet.
How that lead will overlay the electoral college is another matter, but Biden looks to be doing better than Clinton in that regard as well, with a clear path to victory as the vote comes in.
It’s not over until all the votes are counted, but Trump at this point would have to pull off some impressive vote shares in urban and exurban areas of Michigan and Pennsylvania to keep those states in his column.
Re: 2020 US election results discussion
Looks like Wisconsin is going to deliver a dramatic finish with the courts getting involved. With Biden leading trump by only 0.2% (Approx. 7000 votes) and 89% votes already counted (Source: CNN), neither candidate will be willing to give up easily. With 10 electoral votes at stake, It is definitely heading for the courts with a demand for a recount. Both candidates must be on tenterhooks with regards to NC and GA. Trump has a slim margin of 2% in both states with 95% and 92% votes already counted. This is getting more exciting than a one day match where India needs 18 runs to win in the last over with 2 wickets to spare !!
Re: 2020 US election results discussion
Did the counting stop for the night? Will it resume early on Nov 4?
Re: 2020 US election results discussion
Trumps lead in Michigan is down to a slim 50k 30k , and reportedly the mail-ins have not been counted. Over 95% of the 100k mail-ins are to believed to be Democrats.
Well, its been a good 4 years. Just hope that some WokieLiberal doesnt replace Pompeo.

Re: 2020 US election results discussion
Looking at NC numbers, Biden would need more than 75% of the remaining votes to win!
I don't see what would be special about those remaining 5%, which was not shown by 95%!

Re: 2020 US election results discussion
May be I am wrong, but if mail ballots were historically democrat heavy, wouldn't it effect EVERY election?
Re: 2020 US election results discussion
Maybe its the number of mail ballots. Due to the pandemic a lot more seem to have mailed, instead of just the special cases earlier.nam wrote:May be I am wrong, but if mail ballots were historically democrat heavy, wouldn't it effect EVERY election?
Re: 2020 US election results discussion
So these people would have gone to the polling station otherwise? voting the party they want to vote. It is not as if, people have decided vote democrats, because they got a mail in option!
Re: 2020 US election results discussion
Very likely some repeat of Bush-Gore. Under the banner of COVID-19 there has been excessive mail-in/absentee ballot, which opens up for fraud, counting issues, and other legal issues. Looks like courts could again choose the prez.Mort Walker wrote:Looks like this is headed to the courts. Some states have stopped counting and there is the fear of ballot box stuffing.
Re: 2020 US election results discussion
Only .3% lead in Michigan for Trump.
Re: 2020 US election results discussion

Trump is not likely to concede. It is interesting to see how and when all this will end. Indians in US stay home for the next few days.

Yes, in 6 states where Trump was leading, and all 6 states coincidentally have democratic governors . The bulk of ballots being counted in MI are from metro Detroit area, so the needle will continue to nudge towards Biden. I said this last night and i say it again, it all comes down to demographics. 20 yrs ago it would have been unthinkable that VA would one day be a solid blue state, and TX where Republicans once had a comfortable doube digit advantage over democrats is near neck to neck today, same with GA and NC is increasingly following VA by turning bluer and bluer.
That said i am surprised as must be a lot of Trump supporters by the way things turned out. Biden couldn't muster 20 people to listen to his incoherent ramblings, he is by far the weakest Presidential candidate i can think of from either parties since Mike Dukakis in 1988, atleast Dukakis was much younger than Biden is today and much more coherent. I think for the undecided voters a vote to democrats wasn't a vote for Biden-Harris but a vote against Trump. Demographics will continue to influence politics and geopolitics in years to come, we are seeing this in Europe, now the US and India. Maybe in another 20 yrs time there will be far left democratic party and a moderate democratic party with GoP no where in contention just like it is in much of Europe today.
Re: 2020 US election results discussion
I thought the liberals were trying their hardest to lose with BLM and anti-fa violence. Trump messed up somewhere.

If Harris does come, it may be best to keep low for Indians and avoid certain areas. Her association with Indian community and news reports of millions being showered along with all temple tamasha would be remembered.
Re: 2020 US election results discussion
I still can't figure out why anybody would vote for Biden, especially white Americans.Ambar wrote:That said i am surprised as must be a lot of Trump supporters by the way things turned out. Re: 2020 US election results discussion
over for Trump if he loses Mi. Looks like that way
Re: 2020 US election results discussion
We Indians are pretty proficient in shooting ourselves in the foot. Look at Loudoun County, VA, it has consistently been the wealthiest county in all of US for more than a decade now primarily because nearly 30% of the population is made up of people of Indian origin. Democrats won the seat with double digit margins this time. Same on the other side of the country with Ro Khanna, its the same pattern we saw in UK with labor until it was too late.darshan wrote:The nightmare.Ambar wrote:Maybe in another 20 yrs time there will be far left democratic party and a moderate democratic party with GoP no where in contention just like it is in much of Europe today.

Re: 2020 US election results discussion
That would have helped Republican votes but I didn't run into any Democrat supporter that was condemning riots. It looks like that undecided fell towards the BLM support.hanumadu wrote:I thought the liberals were trying their hardest to lose with BLM and anti-fa violence. Trump messed up somewhere.
One thing is clear that demographic changes and population growth curves aren't in favor of Republicans after few years.
