I see quite a number of liberals in US slowly moving on to Mastadon...what starts in US tends to spread globally...expect Indian folks to start leaving Twitter when US/global exodus starts gaining momentum.

But Mastadon is different from Twitter.

They are not happy with the moderation practices of the company.

It's not the controlled Echo chamber that they are used to having.

It is worth looking into whether Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter is a threat to US national security, President Joe Biden said at a press conference on Wednesday.

As Biden discussed midterm election results, Bloomberg’s Jenny Leonard asked him if he thought Musk was a “threat to US national security” and if the federal government should “investigate his joint acquisition of Twitter with foreign governments, which include the Saudis.”

“I think that… Elon Musk’s… cooperation and or… technical relationships with other countries, uh, is worthy of being looked at,” Biden replied. “Whether or not he is doing anything inappropriate, I’m not suggesting that. I’m suggesting it’s worth being looked at, and uh, um, and that’s all I’ll say.”

Asked “how?” Biden laughed and said, “There’s a lot of ways.”
Let me to explain it in better way
Putin: twitter is to be probed for for spreading lies. Please compare the mpact of two statements statements.

We’re Witnessing the End of Social Media

It’s over. Facebook is in decline, Twitter in chaos. Mark Zuckerberg’s empire has lost hundreds of billions of dollars in value and laid off 11,000 people, with its ad business in peril and its metaverse fantasy in irons. Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter has caused advertisers to pull spending and power users to shun the platform (or at least to tweet a lot about doing so). It’s never felt more plausible that the age of social media might end—and soon.

The problem is basically the Biden admin trying to police speach on social media platforms covering multiple topics.
Pratyush ji, I'm not seeing where Biden admin is trying to police speech on social media platforms and I'm trying to understand where this is coming from.

The fact that the government has the access and ability to silence speach on what is public square of the modern time is disturbing.
But the government does not has the ability and that's when the 1ST AMD will come into play and any such measure will lose in the court. You and I can get on Twitter/FB and any other social media platform and can criticize Biden and nothing will happen to us from Govt.
The moderation policy of individual social media platform should be for social media platforms to decide.
Absolutely agree on this and that's how Twit/FB have been operating, making their own policies.

Book Bans in US

https://brooklyneagle.com/articles/2022 ... happening/

Total Bans by State/District

Texas: 713 bans, 16 districts
Pennsylvania: 456 bans, 9 districts
Florida: 204 bans, 7 districts
Oklahoma: 43 bans, 2 districts
Kansas: 30 bans, 2 districts
Indiana: 18 bans, 3 districts
Tennessee: 16 bans, 4 districts
Virginia: 16 bans, 7 districts
Missouri: 15 bans, 6 districts
Georgia: 13 bans, 1 district
New York: 12 bans, 3 districts
Utah: 11 bans, 2 districts

As you can see, all of these censorship is from Republican/Conservative local governments from state to district level.
Wisconsin GOP proposes banning words from schools
Another conservative ban

From florida conservatives

This is just the tip from what conservatives have banned/censored just in the last 1 year.

I did not support Conservatives. They are as bad as the other morons. The only difference is the conservatives don't pontificate from a high pedestal like the other crooks.

I read the CNBC article. If one looks at the number of active users the fall is at best, marginal. Globally new users have grown. So 2/3rd fall in revenue is somewhat mystifying. My guess is with businesses facing cost pressures, advertising along with travel spends are the first to get the axe. That perhaps is what has caused the dramatic fall in revenue. I wouldn't be surprised if Google feels the pinch too, one of these days.

^ Google is not doing so good either. Just that it has had a 10 year head start on Meta to try and build more ways to make money. Also, the 2/3rd fall in Meta is about market cap, not revenue. Despite the troubles, it makes vast amounts of money after paying all expenses. It is not similar to Twitter in that respect.

Twitter with a real 'Halkat'
FB facing trouble and laying off employees
FTX bankrupt
Amazon apparently in trouble.
I am a bit confused is this somehow old world/Old money teaching a lesson to Nouveau Riche in some old-style business ethics :D or course correction by the Deep-State to rein in ultra-leftist running away with narrative!

Big Tech purge may be good for US and the world
BY ADONIS HOFFMAN, OPINION CONTRIBUTOR - 11/12/22 4:00 PM ET
Today’s business headlines herald a harsh reality for Big Tech: tumult at Twitter; meltdown at Meta; atrophy at Alphabet; adjustments at Amazon. Layoffs, sliding stock and shrinking valuations are hallmarks of the moment.

Big Tech malaise is unfolding before our very eyes.

While the tech downturn was not unexpected, it is not altogether unwelcome.

Some might even consider it relief.

For many, Big Tech has become insufferable, leveraging its largesse to thwart legislation, regulation and reform. Believing the federal government to be feckless, Silicon Valley has been impervious to Washington conventions. Its posture of enlightened elitism, smug self-satisfaction, and unearned exceptionalism pervaded Washington for years. Again, that may be coming to an end.

The recent decline in Big Tech values and the diminishment of its leaders offer a good time to pause.

This may be a seminal moment for the country as social, economic and security concerns are being examined under new lenses.
Policymakers can be deliberate rather than diffident when addressing the full range of tech policy issues. Their erstwhile deference to industry dictates can now be reviewed and reversed.

Taken together, these developments are all good, not only for Americans but also for the world. They allow the industry to retool for today’s economic realities — and to recalibrate their C-suite leadership for tomorrow’s workforce

Its quite amusing to see the head administrative honchos of facebook and previous head of Twitter talk about equality and justice on any issue as they are some kind of a final judge on the matter. These people if probed deeply will only sound like a educated pappu to say the least.

These very people will not think for a second to profit off of customer info, will turn around with a straight face and tell us how ethical and welcoming the rest of the folks/customers on theior platforms should be.

I was watching some video on rohingyas and this came almost two years ago - on Vice or Axion don't remember, but the great white hope head of the NGO who was doing the narration and who seemed barely a guy of late 20-early30's speak of justice and how the rohingyas were wronged with a straight face without speaking on the civil war issue and how the other ethnicities were harmed by the Arrakan army. He also seemed to imply that country like India should stand for secular values and credentials and take these folks in while being silent on the variety of Euro and Anglo Saxon countries and their path on this issue.

We are truly getting ready for the info war which seemed to be only about controlling narratives with no regard for the truth. A few years earlier it was versions of my truth and your truth (even this doesn't make sense but whatever to get your point across). Now there is no regard for the truth, its what i say is final and no further discussion on it.

India needs to atleast have the laws to punish disinfo guys severely like the wire and other assorted buffoons, writing what ever the feel like and make sure the social media companies adhere to the laws of the land.

De-platform based on what ? Musk chacha would have gamed that already and probably found enough protection under unfair trade practices act or trade monopoly practices act etc. The black-coats would have run through all probable and imaginary scenarios through the legal and trade laws. If Musk chacha can afford 44B$ for takeover - 44M$ would buy him all the legal muscle there is in US and around the world.
