A major fire engulfed one of the buildings situated within the Serum Institute of India (SII)'s plant here on Thursday afternoon (21 January), officials said. There are no immediate reports of casualties.

Thick clouds of smoke could be seen billowing out of one of the buildings in the SII complex at Gopalpatti, though company officials remained tightlipped on the development.

At least 10 fire-tenders from Pune Fire Brigade rushed to the site and were battling the blaze, the cause of which is not clear.

WOW! Chinkoos were able to get their hands on SII msot probably with the help of PAPPU and his gang in MH
Internal security needs a firmer hand. It seems like BiF are desperate to prevent India's success at any rate.

True. Luckily the fire happened at a place NOT related to the manufacturing/storage of the COVID vaccine. But still 5 lives were lost. Looks like all sleeper agents have now been asked to become active. May be this time at the Serum Institute the agents had got wrong information and 'arranged the fire' at a wrong place. Shaheen Baug and the Farmer broker gang drama is also an intelligence failure. In both cases it was mass movements of people which was quite easy to detect. It is proven that some communities have easy means to quickly assemble a large number of people but the state machinery is always on reactive mode and also slow to react.

If Modiji is scared of getting label of Anti-sikh, Sorry anyone believed to be pro-hindu is automatically anti-minority in India, but may be he is also eyeing Noble peace prize for acting coward when country needs you most.

Violence is the first recourse of the incompetent. By talking to the people nothing is lost for the government. By not listening to what the government is saying these people are exposing themselves for what they are.

Last thing we want is the images of police charging unarmed & peaceful protestors.

Let it continue. We don't the government is not losing any thing by talking to them.

One thing the farmer broker gang has assured is that they will NOT come any where near Rajpath on January 26. Which means they also know that they will lose any support if they disrupt the Republic Day celebrations. But what I foresee is the media doing a comparison between the parade and the 'tractor rally' at the same time and also giving very high importance to the 'tractor rally'. I do agree with you that talks should continue, at least for the fun of it. The SC appointed committee have also started their work and they have met some farmer organizations yesterday.

I think our enemies out of desperation will look at the weak spots like these and we need to safeguard these assets of global importance as if there is no tomorrow. Now with the old apologists gang back in power in US, expect more attempts to make India look bad guys with tacit blessing and 'kamaliKamala' auntiji and her sleepyBudda...

Indians need to grow a spine in general. We have no idea why the fire happened.

It could be caused by any thing. In any process involving chemical compounds and fires are quite common.

From my understanding this aspect is already covered. For example in the establishment at Pune, the COVID vaccines were not kept at a single location. It was distributed across buildings and they have clearly said there would no impact in Vaccine distribution.

ISRO scientists are being bumped off. Over a dozen have died unnatural deaths in last ten years. Example of Sterlite is in front of us. Also how Nambi Narayanan was setup and beaten, setting back India's cryogenic engine by 20 years. Last week there was an orchestrated campaign by Cong leaders discrediting the home-grown Covi-shield vaccine by Bharat Biotech so that it doesn't become a competitor to Western ones by Pfizer and Oxford.

There was an orchestrated campaign to discredit Aadhar on spurious privacy issues so that it is not implemented. (Some NGOs in the West started churning out research reports about how Aadhaar is a threat to privacy. When SC gave judgement restricting the use of Aadhar, these NGOs immediately shut shop and disappeared. It was obvious that they were set up only for this purpose.)

Thousands of Sikhs are sitting on Delhi's border funded by shady people. And here you are telling us about growing a spine as if such conspiracies are not possible in this world. Only the paranoid survive.

The point is not to lose our cool and start thinking how we have no hope.

The point is inspite of best efforts of BIF we are continuing to move forward.

Also the negative effects are transitory. The progress we make is permanent. The setbacks have in the end made little different. As we have ultimately reached our destination.

I will finish with two seperate points.

1) If we have a clear goal and destination, it makes no difference how long it takes, we will reach it.

2)A population that is permanently in a state of paranoia is not a healthy population.

By proposing a 18 month stay on farm laws, the centre has unknowingly done a big boo-boo on themselves. Now the sikhs have tasted blood and will go for the kill.

I can't blame the sikhs here. The centre blinked first. It almost seemed like the centre would hit back but instead they ate all the blows falling on them. And all it took to break the modi govt was the threat of tractors; not even tanks lol.

Can I suggest to the Mods as well as posters? lets not make a community - Sikhs, who are part of our family; not discredit it just because of few fools. Every religion has these empty vessels - who have no knowledge but make the maximum noise. Do I need to name Jai Chand's of Hindu Dharma? Let's not give bandwidth to BIF - who want to create fault lines among ourselves. Be aware and carefully formulate the posts. Shame a person but not a community!

Rkumar,

It is a Sikh protest. Why are you seeing it as some kind of an anti-national protest?

Throughout the history of India, few particular castes have always tried to dominate few other castes for power, influence and resources. They have waged wars over it. Some castes have allied with invading armies over it. The castes in the pakistani side chose to convert to Arab cultures just to stake a claim on the throne of Delhi. This kind of warfare is an important facet of our regions history. You must acknowledge what is really happening if you wish to counter it.

The proposal of putting the laws on hold for 18 months is a feint. The government just wanted to see if the protesters would accept it. By outright refusing the solution offered they are entering a corner that they cannot escape from.

If they have refused SC's formed committee, and the governments offer and are stuck on repeal. They don't really have anywhere else to go.

With the rest of the country moving on they can keep on doing what they are doing now, for the next few years. Ultimately with the govt not budging they will have to go home or be totally left behind by the rest of the country.

Its their move.

Government has time on its hand. If the tail end effects are visible to the farmers from the rest of the country by the end of FY 22-23. Modi will come back with a larger majority in 24. That will be the end of all such dramas.

Ultimately the most intolerant win. Modi has shown multiple times that he understands this perfectly when he faced the full might of the INC regime for 10 years.

He is not going to be effected by these stunts.

First, the shutting down of the Sterlite plant at thoothukudi, then the abrupt vandalism at iPhone plant in bangalore, and now the fire at Serum Institute at pune.

The tell tale signs can’t be ignored. They are crippling the vital industrial and pharma infrastructure.

Law and order is the fundamental underpinning of any free society and its economic progress and therefore, it must not be compromised ever.

It never hurt anyone to take precautions, at least now that we are forewarned

If the "farmers" are insisting on dismissing all overtures for amicable solutions by the GoI, and the SC, then, the country is also justified in ignoring any and every demand made by these anti nationals and completely dismissing the "farmers" so called concerns.

time to file sedition cases now.

and, like the whatsapp university says:

the BIF supported khalistanis operating through minions of the badals, amarinders, akalis, commies and paki ISI jehadis in India have made the Modi sarkar blink.

That's it that's the plain and unvarnished truth.

Everything else is spin.

But, if anyone thinks that Modi will change his long-term plans for a protest from a few khalistanis, then people haven't really understood him.

wait patiently and watch

GoI should also reconsider the current procurement policy of FCI which is heavily pro-Punjab. In a time span of next 2-3 months (or the major harvest season) GoI should put mechanisms for rice & wheat procurement from all parts of India, at a better price. I remember reading that the farmer brokers actually procure rice & wheat from other states like UP and Bihar, ferry it by trucks to Punjab and then sell it to FCI from there. With a pro-BJP government at UP and Bihar, how difficult is to cut this supply chain? Offer better prices to the farmers in those states, and make sure that trucks ferrying stuff to Punjab face the usual 'slow bureaucracy' at every border check post. Allowing any state (be it PJ, KA, TN or WB) to have monopoly in essential commodities is never a good position to be in.

We had a similar sort of reasoning during the CAA protests: wait and watch, Delhi ites are being inconvenienced and it will result in AAP being penalised in the elections. We all know how that turned out....

Doing nothing is an option and this was used to great event by Narsimha Rao. But the government is not “doing nothing” it is actively staying and rolling back its reforms. That too, when it has a majority of us own in the House, something that was not possible for last 25 years or so. If it can’t do it now, I don’t know when it can. We should stop attributing chanakyan motives to everything this govt does, and accept the government is powerless. Else we are no different than those QAnon types.

this is the technique that the BIF has adapted to negate Modi's majority in both houses of the parliament.

the reaction and behavior of some of the other "pillars" of democracy due to the influence of the BIF has queered the pitch.

the fundamental mistake made here was in not learning any lessons from shaheenbagh and allowing goons and goondas to gather once again in large numbers

peaceful protests may be a fundamental right but this has morphed well beyond the "peaceful" and transformed into a menacing and malevolent entity with threats of murder and mayhem being vocalized every day to the very cooperative and collaborative media which then carries it on prime time tee vee as "news".

this morphing happened in full public view with no one willing to bell the cat.

and now, the possibility of extreme violence has become very real and is almost a fait accompli which may well have been the intent all along when such foolish interventions were being made. The other side has nimbly learned its lessons from shaheenbagh and is all set to dexterously exploit the worsening situation to the hilt.

now, suddenly some stoooopid committees are being formed and an ill considered course of action is being sought to be engineered by people who bear no responsibility for the coming violence by repeatedly stating that protests is a fundamental right.

It's time to call out the para military and seal off the city right now instead of needlessly allowing another massive gathering to occur and allowing weapons that have surely been gathered to be used to precipitate violence.

The executive should grow a pair and flex its muscles in a show of force to deter any untoward actions by hot heads

and once and for all, destroy this false narrative and hypocritical nonsense about "annadatas"

our parents were the "annadatas" and no one else.

Surely "annadata" is not some coked out frigging hyped up range rover driving entitled punjab "farmer" who is being subsidized by the Indian taxpayer.

like some wise beyond his years little kid said, if the farmers don't give us food, we will order from swiggy.

The real and honest punjab farmer is out in his field, and as usual, hard at work and not any part of these pizza primavera designer protests.

Image

these "farmers" look like some geriatric glee club out on a conducted bus tour

The first step in avoiding a trap is to be aware of its existence.

The question is are people seeing this trap. Any aggressive action from the government might be satisfactory to some people in India about establishment of superiority of Delhi.

But in the long run it will be more damaging to the fabric of India. That is the trap.

Leave the protesting people alone. don't offer any provocation.

It is upto the NDA ruled states to make sure that farmers reap the benefits of these acts. Once that starts happening the agitators from Punjab will fall in line.

If people are thinking that Khalistan is the next step. I have news flash for you. No body follows a a cause that has lost in real world. Espically when this losing cause is also making sure that common farmer is losing his livelihood due to the stupidity of some people.

11th round of talks breaks down, deadlock on farm laws continues No date for the next round of talks ... ry 20.
Looks like GoI has changed its stance, and now left it to the farmer brokers. From a Malayalam news paper report I read; the discussions concluded in around 18 minutes flat. Narendra Singh Tomar just said that the best offer GoI will make is the 18 month suspension of the laws, and the farmer brokers will also have to come up with points in a categorical manner. His confidence also seems to mean that GoI has a Plan B in mind.

It is easy for Lee Kuan Yew to be Lee Kuan Yew when you are democracy only in name and have wiped off your opponents. Modi could have sent forces to clear Shaheenbagh and Singhu had it not been for our opposition parties who are nothing more than veritable arms of break India forces. Their vast and powerful ecosystem will ensure India is dragged on coals if the govt uses any force to clear the protest sites. The so called farmers are egging the govt to use force so they can unleash violence and play victim. Hate to say this but i think the govt should let these morons remain there and just move on. Increase MSP purchases in other states and let PJ government deal with the excess produce. The only problem is if these "farmers" build permanent structures on the hihgway and turn it into yet another illegal slum in Delhi.

I got a glimpse of the well oiled Congress ecosystem at work earlier this week. Congress organized a huge "farmers rally" in Bangalore where "farmers" (real congress workers) came from all over the state and created ruckus in the state capital. Some of my family members who are chorporators in city corporations and zilla panchayat members too participated. Their presence was mandatory and attendance taken by the local congress district level president, transportation was arranged, as was food and stay for 2 days. The senior and more powerful members got the customary foreign liquor in the evening. After shouting slogans, creating hours long traffic jams and attacking police (including the shameful act by congress MLA Soumya reddy who was caught on camera slapping a female officer), they were bussed back home. Such a ecosystem is only possible by benefiting from a system designed for their type of politics, and ofcourse having ruled the country for over 100 yrs first with the Brits and later by themselves. The only way forward is to weaken this ecosystem from within, break them into regional factions and drain their coffers. As long as they are a force in wealthy states like KA, MH and PJ, they will continue to wreck havoc.

If i read correctly, the farm laws were agreed to be stayed for a year and half on the condition that the farmer organizations will participate in the sc appointed committee. if they are not going to join and still keep asking for repeal with the govt promising the one and half year suspension then maybe we can revisit this discussion of govt kowtowing to the unnatural BIF demands.

If Modiji is scared of getting label of Anti-sikh, Sorry anyone believed to be pro-hindu is automatically anti-minority in India, but may be he is also eyeing Noble peace prize for acting coward when country needs you most.
Saar, i don't understand this itch to self-flagellate on a forum when ever something doesn't go as per our wishes. the farm laws suspend for a year or so will not really cause any issue in the long term scheme. I would like the govt to take a hard stance on this, but this is the sikhs who are normally unlike the pissfuls. even the most genuine supporter of the govt will turn a bit sour with lathi charge on the farmers and then give sermons that maybe the govt should have talked (they are our own, people join armed forces, backbone of green revolution, annadata and so on and so forth). the govt has not indicated that it will repeal the laws. so why this continued rona dhone.

Ramana Saar also indiacted the raj dharma that Modi was following while the other tactics are also mentiond as kind of sarkar movie.

I see even in this forum there are a few that come and crap over every perceived issue (happend during dokala, galwan migrant issue) coming up with some ridiculos theories of quid pro quo. Peopl should think a little before posting something, now the new refrain is Modi is gunning for Nobel. Even the BJP and NDA supporters seem to be falling for this hook line and sinker without any thought process. why and how will he get a nobel from a committe for not taking law and order action or letting cities under the grip of fundamentalists. I mean kuch bhi.

I would think that SII already has Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) for some time now. The building under construction may not have.

On eve of Netaji Bose’s Jayanti, PM Modi recollects memories of Haripura in Gujarat

On the eve of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s Jayanti which is going to be marked for the first time as Parakram Divas, the Prime Minister said his mind “goes back to 233d January 2009 – the day we launched e-Gram Vishwagram Project from Haripura. This initiative revolutionized Gujarat’s IT infrastructure and took the fruits of technology to the poor, in the remotest parts of the state.”

“I can never forget the affection of the people of Haripura, who took me through an elaborate procession on the same road as Netaji Bose was taken, in 1938. His procession included a decorated chariot drawn by 51 bullocks. I also visited the place where Netaji stayed in Haripura,” the Prime Minister said further in series of tweets.

The Prime Minister pointed out the importance of Haripura in Gujarat and its connection to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.

Joining armed forces, participating green revolution, or flaunting fancy names like Anndata does not give absolute freedom to anarchy. This mockery of law and order did not start at Singhu, they were shutting down Reliance gas stations and fresh stores since October. Even Indian railway had to stop many good and passenger trains due to continuous blocking of the tracks. To mobilize against farm laws, following narratives were build and successfully used.

1. Punjab is a fighter state and sikhs are a martial race.
2. We won Dilli 16 times and gave it back. (Actually its between 16 - 19)
3. We will win Dilli again and no body can stop us.
4. Only we fought with Muguls and Britishers in India
5. We saved them from Mugals and they backstabbed us.
6. Was it not for Sikhs, India would be a Muslim state.
7. Hence BJP and Indian government is inherently coward.
8. Modi is a dictator and we will teach him a lesson.

Jatt dominated Punjabi music industry immediately jumped in and produced many songs enforcing same narrative. Clear lines are drawn and anyone even remotely supporting these laws is threatened. Last month they gheraoed Gurdas Mann because he did not join protests in October. Hansraj Hans's house in Jalandhar was surrounded. Bhupinder Singh Mann was threatened and he recused from Supreme Court appointed committee. Why do you think former Cricketer Harbhajan Singh would post a fake news of false vaccination in India.

See the audacity, they demanded repeal without discussion and rejected every offer by government. They didn't even respect, trust or fear Supreme Court. They are not in Delhi to consult on farm bills, They are here to give Modi ji a sounding defeat. If Modi Ji let unions win, it will be perceived "we" defeated "them" and fan separatism even more.

If they decide to create a ruckus on Republic day, I am not sure how Delhi police is tactically equipped to stop few thousand tractors. As unions indicated its going to end up in a bloody mess, its quite logical that State starts violence pre-emptively and contains it.

Congress killed thousands in 1984 and tens of thousands during Beant Singh rule, yet Shree Amarinder Singh won twice with thumping majority. Why should Modi ji care bad optics of lathi charge. This protest does not have traction with farmers in other states, and no farmer gives a rats backside if his crop gets him more money under new laws.

As far as Noble prize for Modi ji is concerned, it was a pun I know he will never get it.

An Expert Explains: The Covid-19 vaccine route to a healthy India
Covid-19 vaccination presents an opportunity. Given that many people unknowingly live with slow-onset non-communicable diseases such as diabetes and cancers, and the vaccination programme prioritises those with co-morbodities, the strategy can be dovetailed into a screening programme for such NCDs.
Burden of NCDs
It is estimated that although India has 30 million diagnosed diabetes cases, the prevalence rate estimated by the National Diabetes and Diabetic Retinopathy Survey is 11.8% in the adult population. This comes to nearly 72 million. Similarly, studies show that undetected hypertension cases may be as high as 26% of the adult population. India has one of the lowest incidences of cancer per 100,000 population, but this is largely due to inadequate early screening and detection. An EY report found that while the cancer incidence rate in India was estimated to be at 94 cases per 100,000 people, the actual rate was somewhere between 150-200 cases due to deficiencies in data collection and screening.

As with most low- and middle-income countries, roughly 40%-50% of the non-communicable disease burden in India remains undiagnosed or undetected until the very late stages of the disease. This leads to high rates of mortality and high out-of-pocket expenses: NCDs are very costly to treat at the advanced stages, and India’s Multisectoral NCD Action Plan estimates that 47% of all out-of-pocket health expenditure is due to NCDs.

Therefore, the strategy for Covid-19 vaccination can be dovetailed into a comprehensive screening programme for people aged 50 and over for major NCDs like diabetes, cardiovascular disease (CVD) and even common cancers. This will reveal the undetected cases of hypertension and diabetes. The current operational guidelines for Covid-19 vaccination aim to mobilise all the district collectors, rural frontline health staff from primary health centres and urban civil and sub district hospitals. The vaccination centres have been very meticulously planned to deliver the vaccination efficiently. This is a great opportunity to equip all the frontline vaccination staff, including vaccination officers, with glucometers and blood pressure measurement instruments to screen people for potential co-morbidities such as diabetes and hypertension.

An opportunity to integrate
As the entire Covid-19 vaccination drive in India will be recorded on the digital CoWin platform, a little bit of tweaking will enable CoWin to be integrated with the government’s Health Management Information System (HMIS) databases, where all the details of newly detected NCDs can be recorded. The National NCD Action Plan already aims to promote continued surveillance and screening surveys to detect undiagnosed NCD cases. The Covid-19 vaccination drive offers a nationwide opportunity to screen and update the national database of NCD patients, and an updated database which captures a larger number of patients at the early stages of NCDs will help in demedicalising the care of NCD.

Through advocacy and through the newly created health and wellness centres, all registered NCD patients can be provided with advice for self-care, reduction of aggravating risk factors like sugary and salty foods, taking more exercise and reducing harmful alcohol and tobacco use. The continuity of self-care by patients can be monitored on various mobile based applications like the Digital Life care solution developed by Dell with the Ministry of Health, which has been adopted by over 40,000 frontline health care professionals. This can easily be integrated with the CoWin platform to capture the newly detected NCD patients.

^^Sikhs are not stupid, they know exactly the maladaptive ways of their community. But yes there is much intimidation. I am afraid that is something for the Sikhs to sort out.

Two nights ago there was a riot in Southall, with the usual swords. This is something that part of the world has ingrained-Muslims bashing each other in Leeds or Luton, Sikhs in Southall. Only the meek Hindu Panjabi seems immune. Actually there are some murmurings of 'this time it'll be different'. My advice is let them learn when India is a middle income country, when all India average HDI and income are higher than rural Panjab. Technology, academics, achievement means something different to a rural society. Again the Jat culture of West Panjab provides a model to understand what unbridled religiosity and ethnic chauvinism lead to. It's not pretty. But if it's the culture, it has to evolve organically. One of my projects is to interview the Sikh side of my Brahmanical family-I will put my ideas and hypotheses to the test, concepts of caste, religion, culture.

The hyper-religiosity of Christian Europe is an embarrassment to Europeans today. They have some of the very best quality of life on the planet and certainly Britain is admirable in significantly moderating its ethnic pretensions in addition to religiosity. Britain continues to produce some excellent science and technology.

India, overall, may be seemingly cursed with diversity but it is in fact a force for moderation and accommodation. A very big problem in Panjab is the tribalism of a certain community which by definition is a negation of plurality..

Goremint has known from day 1 the real backers and real agenda of this 'farmer' protest in Delhi. A good move to offer 18 month stay, knowing that it will force the BIFs to escalate further and reveal their true hand.
