The comparison is a bit of apples vs oranges. The quran petition is about changing the written scripture. Temple interference has to do with physical externalities relating to the deity and his / her properties: who owns the property, who is allowed on it etc. There is some tradition and legal precedent that allows the courts to get involved in this aspect. Knowledgeable brfites may please enlighten.

The equivalent to the quran case would be if someone said Gita should be revised because it encourages family members to go to war and kill each other or something like that. (actually a lot of lefties do say this exact thing all the time, so maybe we will see a PIL about that also).

Thank you. I am not sure why they are different:

Faith 1 : We have a sampradaya about how worship can be done. (Say sabarimala ) in selective temples designed for a specific purpose which no practicing hindu has an issue with. It does not affect anyone else anyway...Understood that, *if* gita says kill relatives that would be a problem. The response is in the wrong perspective though...

Faith 2 : "fight and slay the Pagans wherever ye find them" . This cannot be discussed? The plea included indoctrination of kids?
This affects everyone...even if we set aside the claim to rewrite Quran ( which I dont see a reason to ). Surely any school should not teach to kill pagans?

Does it mean that the middlemen gave in? Or is the compromise to just keep giving them their cut, though they are not adding any value? Just like cut-money in Mamata's Bengal?
It probably means that they get tipped off on payments so that their goons can terrorize the actual farmers to extort their cut (and pay off the politicians).

There is a funny story about that too. Tehseen Poonawalla had referred to Adar's father Cyrus as "Cyrus uncle" multiple times on Twitter which caused some people to think they were related. This led to a clarificiation from Cyrus Poonawalla in a letter in Mumbai Mirror that the only "Poonawallas" besides him connected to their family and business were Adar and his wife Natasha and that the media should not assume any "other Poonawallas" were related to them or involved in their business. :rotfl:

Don't worry ... when they see the money first in their hands and then these middlemen are grabbing a lot of it, they will ll get furious.

This is what TMC (The M****C*** party of WB) was doing. After direct payment, you pay us 30%. People did not appreciate it. Same fate awaits chootyas of CON party.

This is basically a state sponsored protection racket. In any other country with even a partially objective mainstream media, there would be so much bad press about the state government's actions that they would have been forced to undo this. I just hope the farmers there know who to blame when they have to start paying the protection money to the local Arhatiya's goons out of their own bank accounts.

I don't want to put this in the China virus thread because it adds no value to the discussion but there is a strange business going on in Bangalore. This isn't hear-say but straight from the person who went through this experience. He tested positive on Friday, within 6 hrs of getting the report multiple hospitals contacted him about "covid care packages" in their hospitals/nursing homes . If that wasn't odd enough the neighbors in his building were contacted by BBMP officials to get the information on demographics ( i guess as a part of contact tracing ) but soon after the neighbors started getting calls from labs advising them to get tested and how they can send a lab tech to their homes within the next hour ! Excellent networking between govt and pvt institutes ? Yes. Excellent mechanism for contact tracing ? Yes. Entrepreneurial ? Hell yes !

It is actually illegal for Banks to give out your transaction info to any third party. Punjab government will be seeking this info from Banks in the name of compliance or something and passing on the info to Arthiyas.

The law only prohibits banks from sharing financial information with outsiders. As to whether Punjab Government can share information, the SC did hold that "right to privacy" is a fundamental right. But that only means that a "due process" must be followed before it can be taken away.

^^^ Ultimately it won't matter as the farmers will start resisting the efforts to conduct "recovery".

People should know when they are beaten. Especially when the opposition is playing a win/win game and they are playing a zero sum game.

That way they have an option of at least reducing scale of defeat. But this requires a degree of intelligence that has not been displayed till date by the opposition.

The three acts as enacted by the center had given the Arhitya's of Punjab a golden opportunity to grow in value chain.

1) By using existing network and try and get better deals for existing farmers for buyers other than mandis.
2) By using existing networks and financial resources to build storage capacity and value addition facilities ( Granaries, Cold Storages, Food Processing ,etc) to help sell produce at better rates.
3) By building farm producing cooperative societies using existing relationships with farmers. Which enter into contract farming deals with large corporate buyers. They had a golden opportunity to do so.

They squandered it by lying to the farmers

^ Great points, Pratyush! In addition, if they wanted to leverage tech, they could have helped build e-marketplaces, helped get the farmers & buyers on-boarded, help farmers get the best price (directly or via e-auction etc) and the farmers will happily pay to be part of such a platform

These marketplaces are coming - sooner or later. But if the Arhityas don't see the light, some entrepreneurs will build the dominant platforms, while they're busy licking their wounds & sipping their scotch

As expected, the extortion starts. As someone mentioned above, the farmers will now get to know how much they have been scammed all these years. They might yield, because the arhatiyas have political backing, but the farmers will be pissed off when they see the money in the bank & later a big chunk of it gets withdrawn

Is the entire amount per MSP transferred to the farmers' accounts, or any commissions and fees deducted ?
Is it the state govt or the central govt (or its agencies) that does the transfer?
If any commissions/fees are deducted prior to transfer, is there any transparency on how much is deducted and for what purpose?

Modi Has Created a New Pro-Hindu Power Elite—Protecting India's Social Unity Not Important to Them'
An interview featuring Karan Thapar and Sanjaya Baru, two deracinated and entitled, erstwhile small time lootyens relics, desperately seeking relevance in Modi's India
Sanjay Baru is coming up with a new book called 'India’s Power Elite: Class, Caste And a Cultural Revolution'. This is just the beginning of pushing the narrative that the current government is side lining the perfumed nehruvian elites and replacing them with provincial riff-raffs and hence the idea of India is in jeopardy, country is doomed, secularism will be dead, etc. So there will be more such interviews and articles in the future.
India’s New Power Elite
It was on Roundtable a month ago that we broke the news that Sanjaya Baru was coming out with a new book. Well, this one is called India’s Power Elite: Class, Caste And a Cultural Revolution. It’s a very smart treatise on the power elite and Baru talks, not just about the chatterati and politicians but also the elite in the bureaucracy, military and media. Baru traces the rise of the Nehruvian elites to what Narendra Modi now refers to as the Khan Market gang and the rise of a new cultural elite. This new power elite dreams in Hindi, prefers to eat with their hands than a knife and fork but does so with attitude and not diffidence—it is the group that surrounds Amit Shah and Yogi Adityanath. In this new elite both Montek Singh Ahluwalia and Romila Thapar who signified the Right & Left factions of the old elite, will feel misplaced. Baru also talks about the cosy equation between media barons, TV anchors and the government of the day. The politicisation of the military as well as the bureaucracy is examined, with V.K. Singh and N.K. Singh getting a special mention. In the end, he leaves us with a provocative question, asking whether BJP is really turning India into a Hindu nation or is the focus on religion a tactic to divert from failure on other fronts. If the latter, how long will this last? Baru’s answer is not very encouraging for he feels the BJP will hold until the opposition gets it act together or the economy collapses.

Did not see this before ... another articulate Suraj's article ..

https://swarajyamag.com/politics/hindu- ... -of-bharat
Hindu Democracy, Punyabhoomi And The Idea Of Bharat
Those groups are not sole guardians of these rights. Rather, it reflects the fact that Hinduism itself respects women and has never been antagonistic to the third gender; the western approach to these is alien to India; the factual legislative record shows that the BJP has evolved its own independent, native liberal doctrine.

Arguably, the Anglophone liberal versus conservative dichotomy reflects the lack of evolution of polities in both the US and UK, as compared to India.

This backwardness of their politics shows up in the pronounced polarisation of their local politics. Modern democracies in lands with strong cultural moorings have often tended towards liberal conservatism — the BJP in India, the Christian Democrats in Germany, Austria and Italy, the LDP in Japan, the Liberal Party in Australia being examples.

Neither the US nor UK have a political party that is avowedly liberal conservative; the only significant party of the kind in the Anglosphere is the Liberal Party of Australia (LP).

The LP’s conservatism in Australia was primarily racial — Robert Menzies, who was their Prime Minister from 1949-1966, was a strong supporter of the White Australia policy.

It is going to get nasty for Arthiyas. One extortion / blackmail case and every second farmer will jump on it and file their own. Worse, extortion/blackmail with a fake caste atrocity case and it will send jitters across the middlemen ranks. The action will now shift to inside Punjab. The outcome is foregone. How nasty it gets depends on what path Arthiyas take.

From what I understand, Amarinder has said that he will pay the arhatiyas their cut directly out of the Punjab state treasury.

Interesting data point: On a recent Bill Maher show in US, newly-appointed CA senator Alex Padilla was a guest, and he mentioned how he was for farmers everywhere in the world, including the rights of "family farmers" in India.

The scam in punjab begins again for the new procurement season

They can only do this only with the active connivance of political parties

that is why the panjab govt does not want to give land ownership records because using the records, agricultural production quantity can be traced right down to the individual farms

Day before procurement starts, trucks carrying illegal wheat from Bihar found in Bathinda

Wheat is purchased at the rate of Rs 1,100 per quintal in Bihar and other states and sold in Punjab at around Rs 1,925 per quintal as MSP

Sukhmeet Bhasin
Tribune News Service
Bathinda, April 9

The wheat procurement is set to start from April 10, but on Thursday night around two dozen trucks laden with illegal wheat reached Bathinda from other states.

BJP leader Sukhpal Sra got input about this, after which he reached Bathinda’s grain market and claimed that about 25 trucks loaded with wheat parked in Dana Mandi had come from Bihar and other states.

He alleged that wheat procured from there at cheaper rates would now be sold in Punjab as per MSP.

As per the information, wheat is purchased at the rate of Rs 1,100 per quintal in Bihar and other states and sold in Punjab at around Rs 1,925 per quintal as MSP.

Even transportation cost is around Rs 225 per quintal and in one truck around 400 quintals of wheat is transported. This means a trader is minting Rs 2 lakh per truck in this illegal business.

Inderjit Singh, a truck driver, said, “I have brought 41 tonnes (380 quintal) of wheat from Darbhanga in Bihar in my truck and I was told to leave it at a chemical factory in Bathinda but when I reached near Bathinda, I was told to reach grain market at Bathinda.”

After getting this information, the farmers under the banner of BKU Sidhupur had started a protest where wheat was lying dumped at the grain market.

The protesters shouted slogans against the state government and alleged that the government along with traders is exploiting the farmers by doing this illegal business during the procurement.

Punjab Mandi Board, DGM, Ferozepur Division, Kuldeep Singh Brar said, “Around 20 trucks laden with wheat have come here from Darbhanga in Bihar and Rajasthan. They have brought wheat at a price of Rs 1,100 and they are fleecing the government by selling it here at MSP price. We seized the wheat lying here.”

He also said three loaded trucks have been standing here while wheat from many trucks has been lying dumped here.

“We have informed the Deputy Commissioner and food supply department officials about this,” he said.

Brar also stated that they along with vigilance and police officials have conducted raids at two godowns in the grain market, where large number of unaccounted wheat has been found, which is illegal as if anyone keeps stock of wheat in its godowns, then the trader is bound to inform the Mandi board about the same but here it is found that Mandi board had no news about this, due to which entire stock has been seized.

SHO, Kotwali police station, Daljit Brar said, “We have received a complaint from market committee Bathinda, in which it was stated that one truck of M/s Babbu Ram Ashok Kumar firm, two trucks of Lakshmi oil chemicals and around 7000-8000 bags of wheat have been lying dumped in open at grain market, which have been brought from the other states so we have seized the stock and registered an FIR against both the firms.”

Even during paddy procurement last year, several traders were also booked by the Bathinda police but later no further action was taken by the police.

In the preliminary investigation, it was learnt that traders purchased paddy at lower rates in other states to sell it at a much higher price in grain markets across the state.

Farmers protest wheat import by mill owner

Ropar, April 9

Protesting import of wheat from Uttar Pradesh by local flour mill owner, farmers blocked the Ropar-Kharar national highway here today.

They said the move would hurt those whose crop was yet to be procured by the government. The mill owner, however, avoiding confrontation, agreed to return the imported wheat and announced Rs 2.5 lakh contribution to the farmer agitation. Last night, 40 truckloads of wheat from UP arrived at a mill near Solakhian. On getting the information, farmers reached the spot and protested.

Officials from the police and district marketing office arrived at the scene and promised to look into the matter. Around 11.30 am today, farmers assembled on the Ropar-Kharar highway demanding action against the mill owner.

Farmer leader Gurmail Singh Barra said it was a conspiracy to weaken the farmers of Punjab financially. Two hours later, the police and marketing board officials effected a compromise between farmers and the mill owner, following which it was decided that the imported wheat would be returned and the mill owner would contribute towards the farmer agitation.

The key question is why is MSP higher than the international market prices for something we grow locally ? It is not just wheat, you see this distortion through high floor prices for multiple produces covered under MSP, as if we don't have enough worries already about high food and energy prices.

Probably a problem waiting to happen for the mainly-jat arhatiyas, bloated with jaati-pride. High likelihood that one of them would go after an SC Sikh at some point.

I think it’s a relic of the 1960s famine-era emergency procurement policy. The whole agitation has been about reactionary resistance by a class of parasites to the efforts to reform the antiquated system.

What is stopping Pfizer and Moderna vaccine from being given to Indians ?

I remember Pfizer applied for approval in Dec 2020 but withdrew later ... any good reason ?

Pfizer would have been a great one to procure and we could deliver to US using our infrastructure as well.

Listening to Lutyens obituary from their very own is uniquely entertaining. These jokers are outright accepting the power hold of Lutyens power brokers and disgust for common people whom that clever mudi has given a voice after 70 years who will walk into a high class restaurant and eat with hands with an amazing confidence...luv it.

Do read what Pfizer asked the south American countries as quid pro quo for the vaccine. You will get an idea.

They declined to do trials that were mandated of all vaccine candidates.

The latest news simply stated expedited bridging trials in place of previous requirements, so anyone including Pfizer will still have to do trials now.

These vaccines are several months from being available in India . This isn’t Amazon or Swiggy.
