The below is cross posted from the Mil thread...the header can as easily be true for our navy

Imagine a super power like king khan being asked to choose... and then compare our situation & limitations.
NRao wrote:Memo reveals US Navy must pick between future destroyer, fighter or sub for FY23 plan

“The Navy cannot afford to simultaneously develop the next generation of air, surface, and subsurface platforms and must prioritize these programs, balancing the cost of developing next-generation capabilities against maintaining current capabilities. As part of the [program objective memorandum ‘23] budget, the Navy should prioritize one of the following capabilities and re-phase the other two after an assessment of operational, financial and technical risk,” the memo read.

I would advocate for separate aircraft carrier groups to be based in ANC and another in LDW ., in addition to three for the mainland.
Future would be offensive defensive for India , not a purely defensive maritime power

So, kit ji,

I guess that you will soon be breaking some of your FDs for the deposit on the carriers, then

these carriers could easily take some decades to build

we simply do not have the wherewithal for that kind of defence expenditure and that too certainly not on a 2% tax base.

we have hordes to feed, educate, uplift and give jobs to before we go in for such humongous defence expenditure.
agree, this is not a short term idea, but after a decade, GDP India 2030 is 9 trillion., one trillion translates to affordability of one ACG

VinodTK and kit,
Why do you think that such a stink is being raised in Chindu and Kerala about LDW?

Any thoughts about the USN FONOP that trespassed Indian territorial waters in the vicinity of Maldives? Could it be connected to recent developments in LDW?

I think i can answer this. Kerala under the commies (the commies are now the de facto Muslim party ever since the CM Pinarayi s daughter married a Muslim guy) ., is undergoing a radical transformation underneath (the vote banks of muslims and even the christians have pivoted to the "commie" ) ., everything the party involved is directed by the m loving high command, they literally can orchestrate any sort of action up from their ground level party worker esp with the pliable media.

Now an anecdote ., long back i knew a friend who knew a guy who came in from LDW ( M guy with a bunch of reservations to boot) , 2 months down the line we got leaflets asking support for SIMI ( a highly radicalised M outfit that about 5 years later was banned) , that organisation was taking root at that very point in time ., and it was the LDW guy who was running the whole jig in our area.

LDW is a hot house of highly radicalised Ms who uptill now had " immunity" because of their location. Smuggling of narcotics and weapons is rampant and i have heard quite a few stories on this count. LDW has quite a few of their "safe houses" for smuggling and also provide haven for Pakistani agents and sleeper cells. Some of you would remember SIMI has direct connections with ISI.

The whole stink is being orchestrated by the commie party at their cadre level on the ground as they cannot be seen publicly supporting any move against the LDW administrator. The admin has previous experience with rooting out such weeds and has especially been chosen by the highest levels in GOI to manage a problem that has gone out of hand literally.

Another anecdote being the military has intercepted direct comms between certain elements based in LDW and Kerala with their known ISI handlers., the extent to which this goes is not known but it is really bad. For such a strategically significant part of the country this is a major vulnerability that needs to be rectified asap.

I also find a lot of people incl those in BRF are poorly informed about what is happening in LDW.

USN sailed past the LKD islands to tell China and the world that we are not picking on China (in south China sea), we treat our friends territory in the same way, so do-not not complain next time when we sail past your man made islands.

My view is natives are using the new ordinances as an excuse to escalate their religious views and plan to claim religious persecution in front of the world, will not work. Chindu acts as if it is a savior of human rights on India (as long as they are not Hindus), as for Kerala they think LKD is part of there state and trying to behave like big brother.

However I am shocked at the views of some of the BRF members on this topic.

Mean while weaseling out has started by the Lakshadweep woman who alleged that GoI used the COVID as a bio weapon against the islanders. Now she says she meant the administrator was the 'bio-weapon'  .
In a Facebook post, Sultana defended her outburst against Patel in the TV show. “I had used the word bio-weapon in the TV channel debate. I have felt Patel as well as his policies [have acted] as a bio-weapon,” she wrote.

The complaint against her was *also* filed by the BJP’s Lakshadweep unit president Abdul Khader. Sultana is from Chetiath island in Lakshadweep. There were other organisations in Kerala who have also petitioned the K.P and the Ministry of Home Affairs, GoI. The administrator should now use the 'defamation case' route to call the bluff of this woman.

If this is true, then no wonder the central government is now putting the islands under higher focus. Military Intelligence had already tipped of the Bangalore City Police on possible spies misusing the telecom facilities, and two arrests made. As expected the master mind is a Muslim youth from Malappuram Dt., Kerala.

The CPI(M) in KL is now under the firm control of the North Kerala (Malabar) lobby, and that region is generally more adapative to Shariah style governance). The demographics, history of the central and southern parts of Kerala is different (as they were erst-while kingdoms). Islamism in KL itself is on the rise now, and the communist leadership does seem to encourage it. X'ians who were an other wise voiceful and demanding community have also been cut down to size. It would be interesting to watch KL's trajectory in the next 10 days. May be I am reading things too much, but sample this More relaxations today (a Friday); Strict restrictions on Saturday, Sunday.

100% with you here. The islanders & their vociferous supporters in Kerala have only one strong bonding; that is common religion. The main stream media in Kerala dances to their tunes, because their revenue comes from business communities heavily dominated by the same religion. 'The Hindu' as every one knows picks up any cause which is anti-Hindu or anti-India. GoKL also encourages such moves in order to placate voters of the same religion. There is no other angle, as I see it. There seems to be a very sustained campaign to make Lakshadweep another Kashmir, where the writ of the 'majority religion' (in that place) runs supreme.

The IB and R&AW have been involved for quite some time now

This is not such a simple or even communal matter as is being portrayed in the presstitute media.

the commies/jehadis are as keen to divert the issue as is the GoI to avoid unwanted matters from spilling out.

The kerala gold smuggling racket may have reached as far as mehul choksi in its international ramifications and lakshadweep is one of the main routes apart from the diplomatic pouch and numerous casual couriers paid on a piecemeal basis.

A large number of unregulated gelf based vessels were always to be found in this region with a great majority of them making unauthorised landfall. The locals and other mainland based operators, particularly KER based jehadis were complicit.

some kingpins are in custody.

Jaishankar is not spending so much time in the gelf just to kiss the ring

TN Coast is the easiest. If I remember right, Point Pedro to Vedaranyam Coast (in India) is like 25-30 minutes journey by a fast boat. And for these people, it may be easier to mix into the TN society (as language etc. are practically same, accents differ).

SL tamil is discernably distinctive, dialect wise as well as by accent.

vedaranyam is watched and it's risky for the SLs. there are other safer entry points

Besides, what were they doing in mangaluru. That is a very strange place for them to blend in unless they were headed further north into the heartland, in which case, they were up to no good.

bangalore has many tens of thousands of SL tamils because the locals in many areas are not clued up enough to tell the difference. Even during the ltte days, many headed for bangalore and most of them from those times are still settled in bangalore

At the time, it was mostly the ltte leadership that was. The foot soldiery cannon fodder were mostly Hindu

now that many of them sought/seek refugee status in the west, it's more politically convenient for them to convert

The experts in this are KL peacefools and the communists. 100s of fake ids, many of its handlers not even in the country. And they just post abusive comments on Facebook, Twitter etc. Most of these folks do not know proper English, so you can even find them writing abusive comments in Malayalam (be that on the Facebook page of Maria Sharapova or Praful Khoda Patel). The local main stream media actually encourages such behaviour as a kind of cheap show of Malayali machoism .

Any folks please don't clutter this thread with inane materials.
Kerala stuff should go into the other threads.

Lakshadweep administration denies shifting its legal jurisdiction to Karnataka. There are lots of petitions filed in Kerala High Court against the latest administrative policies in Lakshadweep. And I feel if these policies have a firm legal (and constituitional) grounding all of them will pass the scrutiny of the courts (be it Kerala H.C or Karnataka H.C).

Kerala HC issues interim stay on controversial reforms in Lakshadweep.
Notice the spin given on the news. Later in the news is the sentence - "It has been clearly stated in the interim stay order of the high court that no further action should be taken on both these controversial reforms until counter-affidavit is filed". Filing counter affidavit is just a minor process, and once that is done the Lakshadweep admin can proceed with the execution of said orders. There is no stay on the orders till the court gives a final verdict.

What is also being missed out is that the LDAR is just a 'draft'. People still have democratic ways to work with the administration and then optimise the plans. The request to cancel even a 'draft' is a very similar to the demand of the infamous 'farmer broker' gang who asks laws to be repealed but never says what is wrong with those laws.

Ecological aspect is not the only point of concern. The social practises in Lakshadweep should be based on the law of Indian Union and not based on the majority communities whims & fancies. The administration also has the rights to close down useless departments which don't add any value. The Kerala model of having big establishments purely to provide some people 'government' jobs should be restricted to that state only.

This is one catch.

One wonders how many tons of drugs and rifles/ammo/RDX have already slipped through.

Normally catches are not this large and for it to be so, the drug and gun runners must be very sure that is a safe route and they have enough "support" to see them through.

what happens after such volumes of drugs are landed in KER, any guesses.........

This scale of operations is not possible by having low level contacts among the constabulary and customs.

It involves, at the very minimum, very powerful ministers, very high level govt officials and political parties with their own private armies and massive media support to suppress and play down such news at the state, as well as, at the national level.

Now you will understand the "demand" for international airports in KER and how the foolish UPA at center "agreed" to such "popular" demands mostly by one section of the KER society.

The sardar and his mafia masters have a lot to answer for.

this explains the massive opposition and outcry against the new changes being brought in by the center as well as the islands' administration

3000 cr of drugs, 4 AK47 rifles and a 1000 rounds of ammunition were seized from Minicoy Island in Lakshadweep."

Lakshadweep administration to set up paramedical college in Kavaratti
From: Deccan Chronicle:
Kavaratti: In a bid to give a fresh energy to the health sector of Lakshadweep, the island administration has decided to set up a Paramedical College at Kavaratti, the capital of the islands.

"As a run up to the Skill India Mission of Government of India, Lakshadweep administration is soon going to establish a Paramedical College at Kavaratti, the capital Island of Lakshadweep," the administration said in a statement here on Wednesday.

It said as per the guidance of Administrator Praful K Patel, the Department of Health Services has obtained affiliation for running five paramedical courses including Diploma in Medical laboratory Technology, Diploma in X-ray Technology, Diploma in Operation Theatre Technology, Certificate in Ophthalmic Assistant and CT Scan Technician.

All the courses will be conducted under affiliation with Bharat Sevak Samaj (BSS), an organisation working in this field for the past five decades, the statement said.

"Establishment of this paramedical college is with an intention to augment the existing health infrastructure in addition to cater the needs of having a pool of skilled human resources, especially when the Lakshadweep administration is in the process of upgrading and overhauling its health infrastructure in a comprehensive way," the administration said.

Further, these initiatives will create job opportunities for locals as they will be occupied by the need-of the-hour skills, it said.

"It's worth mentioning that many a time such skilled manpower are not readily available in the islands from other places due which the difficulties are faced in delivering the quality medical services to the islanders, this paramedical institute will give fresh energy to the health sector of Lakshadweep and will also provide job opportunities to its youth," it added.

Lakshadweep. Drugs. Hub.

Srilankan drug traffickers arrested off Vizhinjam in Kerala tell agencies that they have used uninhabited islands in Lakshadweep to hide and store drugs brought from Iran.
