Monday Trivia: How much percentage of Paki Railways is electrified? Answer: Zeroyensoy wrote:Yes, RIP indeed.saip wrote:Meanwhile two trains collided and 30 dead and counting.
If you have seen any videos of Pak railways on youtube, you would have noticed that their track foundations are almost non-existent. No ballast, just strips of worn out steel on angrez zamane ke wooden sleepers. It has survived this long because the rail line runs in the absolutely flat Indus plains. But the trains run relatively fast, 110-120kmph and possibly even more because of course they are TFTA. In contrast, much better built and maintained IR lines in peninsular India often don't exceed 90 or 100kmph.
They tried in 2009 and electrified ~300KM of track but the operations were abandoned as people kept stealing electric cables and wires
Pakis have lesser railway track length than what they inherited in 1947.
Truly TFTA railways.

You know the reason? Due to theft of rail lines. These included theft not only from abandoned or non-operational routes but also those which were running operational lines.CalvinH wrote:

Patient dies after security guard performs surgery at Lahore hospital
LAHORE:
A woman died after an ex-security guard at Lahore Mayo Hospital posed as a doctor and performed surgery on her, police said on Monday.
Shameema Begum, aged 80, died on Sunday, two weeks after Muhammad Waheed Butt attempted to treat her back wound at the public hospital in the provincial capital.
"We can't keep up with what every doctor and what everyone is doing at all times. It's a large hospital," explained an administrative official from Lahore's Mayo Hospital, who did not want to be named.
He said it was unclear what type of surgery the imposter had performed in the operating theatre, where a qualified technician was also present.
Pakistan's public hospitals, where patients are required to pay some money towards treatment, can often be inefficient and chaotic.
Begum's family paid Butt for the operation, and two further home visits to dress her wound.
Also read: Hospital security guard caught ‘performing surgery’
But when the bleeding and pain worsened, her family returned her to the hospital, where they discovered what had happened.
Her body is being kept for an autopsy to ascertain whether her death was a result of complications from the botched surgery.
"The guard has been charged and is in police custody," Lahore police spokesperson Ali Safdar told AFP.
"Butt had posed as a doctor and made home visits to other patients in the past also."
Mayo Hospital staff said Butt was fired two years ago for trying to extort money from patients.
Earlier in May a man was arrested for posing as a doctor at Lahore General Hospital and extorting money from patients in the surgical ward.
In 2016 it was revealed that a woman posing to be a neurosurgeon conducted operations for eight months alongside qualified doctors at Lahore's Services Hospital, the second-largest health facility in Pakistan.

United States officials are in last-minute efforts to secure bases close to Afghanistan for future operations. But the complexity of the continuing conflict has led to thorny diplomatic negotiations as the military pushes to have all forces out by early to mid-July, well before President Biden’s deadline of Sept. 11, according to American officials and regional experts.
One focus has been Pakistan. ....
In discussions between American and Pakistani officials, the Pakistanis have demanded a variety of restrictions in exchange for the use of a base in the country, and they have effectively required that they sign off on any targets that either the C.I.A. or the military would want to hit inside Afghanistan, according to three Americans familiar with the discussions.....
Mr. Burns made an unannounced visit in recent weeks to Islamabad, Pakistan, to meet with the chief of the Pakistani military and the head of the directorate of Inter-Services Intelligence, the country’s military intelligence agency. Defense Secretary Lloyd J. Austin III has had frequent calls with the Pakistani military chief about getting the country’s help for future U.S. operations in Afghanistan

Saudi Arabia cancels $ 10 Billion investment deal with Pakistan
https://tfipost.com/2021/06/saudi-arabi ... -pakistan/
https://tfipost.com/2021/06/saudi-arabi ... -pakistan/
A wise man had once said, ‘Weigh your words before you speak’. Recently, Saudi Arabia made a decision that has once again made Pakistan regret the day when Shah Mahmood Qureshi spoke way more than what was necessary. In a crucial decision, Saudi Arabia has withheld their decision to invest 10 billion dollars in an oil refinery at Gwadar, situated in the disputed province of Balochistan.
But why has Saudi Arabia refused to assist Pakistan in building the refinery? What did Shah Mahmood Qureshi speak for which Pakistan is paying the price even today? The previous year, during the beginning of August, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Pakistan’s Foreign Affairs Minister, launched a tirade against Saudi Arabia and their Organization of Islamic Cooperation for not extending support to their cause of ‘liberating Kashmir’.
To make matters worse, Shah Mahmood Qureshi even threatened Saudi Arabia that Pakistan is very capable of creating an alternative leadership within the Islamic countries. This was enough for Saudi Arabia to launch punitive measures against the rogue nation for daring to challenge their supremacy in the Islamic world and threaten Saudi Arabia, the undisputed leader of the Islamic world, with consequences.
As of now, Saudi Arabia has decided that it would not invest in the oil refinery situated at Gwadar. While conversing with News International, Imran Khan’s adviser on Electricity and Petroleum, Tabish Gauhar reported that Saudi Arabia has refused to invest in the Gwadar refinery. The investment would have been nothing less than a soothing relief to Pakistan, which is ailing with an economic crisis. Pakistan wanted Gwadar to be converted into an economic hub, for which it has attracted various CPEC projects to the same.
In order to ensure the same, Pakistani PM Imran Khan had also visited Saudi Arabia in order to thaw the frosty relations between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. However, it looks like Shah Mahmood Qureshi’s arrogance is now going to cost Pakistan dear.
To quote Shah Mahmood Qureshi, “Pakistan will have to look for other options if the OIC doesn’t come forward in support of its stance on Kashmir. Inadvertently threatening Saudi Arabia who leads the chair in OIC, a 57-member organization could have serious repercussions for Pakistan. I am once again respectfully telling OIC that a meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers is our expectation. If you cannot convene it, then I’ll be compelled to ask Prime Minister Imran Khan to call a meeting of the Islamic countries that are ready to stand with us on the issue of Kashmir and support the oppressed Kashmiris”.
It seems that Pakistan’s newfound love for hardline Islamism has not gone down well with Saudi as the latter is now seeking to punish Pakistan. Saudi Arabia has now stopped the supply of oil to the country since May after the expiration of the deferred payment deal. To quote an excerpt from a previous report by TFI Post itself, “The Express Tribune reported that the $3.2 billion Saudi oil facility was a part of the USD 6.2-billion Saudi Arabian package announced in November 2018 to ease Pakistan’s external sector woes. Pakistan is trying to renew the facility but the Saudis are yet to respond to Pakistan’s request. In a desperate bid to placate Saudi Arabia, Pakistan returned a $1 billion Saudi loan — four months ahead of its repayment period. Now, it’s a separate thing that Pakistan returned this loan by taking an additional loan of $1 billion from China.
The message is clear – Saudi Arabia has still not forgotten the audacity of the Imran Khan administration in challenging their might in the Islamic world and is making them pay for their impudence.

Re: Terroristan - April 15, 2021
There was no "deal" (which implies some signed commercial agreement) in the first place, just an MOU (knowing the Saudis and how they view Paki miskeens, probably just a verbal promise that the Pakis spun as an MOU). Like everything else (remember the massive oil discovery off the coast of Karachi?), Pakis can't stop counting their chickens before they have hatched.
Any small time businessperson would know that such an MOU is worth less than the toilet paper on MBS's royal jet, but Pakis tend to be delusional. Heck even the BCCI got sued by PCB (headed by Najam Sethi who thinks of himself of some kind of intellectual + oracle of Delphi combined) based on an MOU that they signed and got slapped in the face by the arbitration court who had them pay for the BCCI's legal fees.

Pakis dont have dictator anymore in power so the behind the scene controllers would have to give concessions and accommodations to the political opposition for keeping it under wraps. That compromise will put IK government in difficult position. So the gernails will have to balance it with something for IK. And from their onwards constantly adjust for all downstream things such balancing acts may open. Lots of favors and lots of threats.
See the hard work the gernails have to do for the nation. Paki awam should be grateful.

The law will make provisions for fresh consular access to Jadhav under the ICJ judgement.

Pakistan Foreign Office (FO) on Wednesday dispatched boxes of the fruit but countries like US and China among others have declined to accept the souvenir, citing their coronavirus quarantine regulations.
FO denies 'misleading' reports of Pakistani mangoes gifted to foreign dignitaries
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday rejected reports that the government had gifted Pakistani mangoes to a number of foreign dignitaries last week as "factually incorrect and misleading", saying the process for dispatching the much sought-after fruit was still underway.
So, the mangoes were rejected by the 32 nations even while their dispatch was underway? That's a bigger kick in the collective baki ass than we were led to believe. The News had reported on Thursday that the FO was sending mangoes to state heads and government leaders of more than 32 countries on President Dr Arif Alvi's behalf as part of 'mango diplomacy'.
Citing sources, the report added that a number of countries, including the US and China, had refused to accept the mango dispatches and asked Pakistan to not send them due to "quarantine regulations".
Explaining the government's mango diplomacy, the FO said: "Every year, the president of Pakistan sends high-quality mangoes as [a] gift to selected countries as part of goodwill and to promote our trade diplomacy efforts."
All three HS&D (hunar, sovirginity and dignatee) lost in one shot. Nice going I'm duh Dim!It clarified that the process for the current year was still in the planning stages and, therefore, "there is no question of dispatch of mangoes to any country.”

Lahore police detain 19 restaurant staffers after being refused free burgers
Web Desk, June 14, 2021
LAHORE: A group of police officers in Pakistan flipped out when a takeaway joint refused to hand over free burgers, detaining all 19 staff at the branch.
Workers at the trendy chain Johnny and Jugnu in the eastern city of Lahore were rounded up and held for seven hours overnight on Saturday, leaving behind unattended kitchens and hungry customers.
"This is not the first time something like this has happened with our kitchen teams at our restaurant, but we want to make sure this is the last," the fast food chain said in a statement published on social media.
The beef started when staff at the restaurant refused a "request from a very high profile special guest".
Restaurant staff told AFP that most of those arrested were young people, including many university students.
Following outcry among fans, nine police officers involved were suspended yesterday, senior provincial police official Inam Ghani said on Twitter.

Pakistani, Indian Exporters Agree To Share Ownership Of Basmati Rice

"There is no logic in both countries' claim for the sole exclusivity of Basmati rice. Although its origin is Pakistani Punjab, it is grown in both sides of the border. Therefore, a joint ownership is the only viable solution to the long-standing dispute," said Ghouri.
"The EU buyers also prefer joint ownership of the rice variety as they want to keep both New Delhi and Islamabad on board in terms of commodity exports," he added.
Ghouri's views were seconded by Ashok Sethi, the director of Punjab Rice Millers Export Association in India, who also suggested that both the countries should jointly protect the Basmati heritage.
