Pakistan Arrests Opposition Leader Critical of Military
May 21, 2022, Ayaz Gul
ISLAMABAD —
Anti-corruption authorities in Pakistan arrested a female opposition leader Saturday on land-grabbing allegations dating back five decades, a move that critics swiftly condemned as politically motivated.
Former human rights minister Shireen Mazari, a vocal critic of the powerful Pakistani military for its alleged meddling in politics, was dragged out of car and taken into custody near her residence in the capital, Islamabad, according to witnesses and video footage of the incident.
Mazari faces investigation and prosecution for an offense her family allegedly committed in 1972, when she was six years old, according to the police complaint registered against her late last month.
The detainee served in Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Cabinet until an opposition-led parliamentary vote of no-confidence toppled his nearly four-year-old government in early April and political rival Shehbaz Sharif replaced Khan as the head of the new ruling coalition.
“Her arrest smacks of political victimization, which has regrettably become an entrenched practice and is deplorable no matter which party is the perpetrator,” the independent Human Rights Commission of Pakistan said on Twitter, while denouncing Mazari’s arrest and “manhandling.”

'Smacks of political victimisation': Condemnations pour in from all quarters on Shireen Mazari's arrest
May 21, 2022
After former human rights minister and PTI leader Shireen Mazari was arrested from outside her Islamabad residence on Saturday, almost unanimous condemnation poured in, with journalists, analysts and politicians from both the government and opposition's side criticising the development.
In footage of her arrest, which was aired by broadcasters, Mazari could be seen being dragged out of a car by female police personnel from outside her residence while she could be heard protesting: "No. Don't touch me."
PPP Senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar said Mazari's arrest was "deplorable and the worst form of political oppression". "Things never seem to change in the land of the pure," he rued.

According to Pakistani people who are not establishment shills, this is on the contrary a drama with the help of the establishment (or some factions of the establishment) to help distract from Imran's cheap comment on Maryam which was impossible to defend by even the youthiya media persons. Turns out that the police and agency officials involved in this were corrupt PTI appointees, and the PMLN govt has already denied any hand in this. Some nitpicks :
Our cities are bursting at the seams, spilling far into the countryside, and gobbling up agricultural land. Pakistan’s present rate of population increase is enough to create one more Israel every two years. In another 25 years there will be 400 million Pakistani NIC holders.
Water availability has decreased by 49 per cent between 1990-1991 and 2020-2021; unemployment has risen from 1.7pc in 1961 to 3.1pc in 1981 to 5.8pc in 2018; availability of agricultural land has decreased from 6.1 acres in 1947 to 0.49 acres per capita of rural population
AoA blasphemy!!!Nevertheless, believing that more is better, like old-time Catholics, many Muslim conservatives continue to oppose contraception. Every newborn, they say, comes with a guaranteed rizq (provision) stamped on its forehead. Let’s assume this is correct and food was to drop miraculously from the skies for every Pakistani man, woman and child. Then what?

Is Imran long march supported by Chinese boosters?
Imran went to Putin like a dog and came back to get his butt kicked. If the US is supporting the Army and Sharifs/Bhuttos, is Cheen supporting Imran?
Also, check out what Bhutto said to Blinken. He basically laid out that Bakistan is totally broken and will require all kinds of baksheesh from US

Yawn - Govt mulls reduced working days to save fuel
Yawn - Govt mulls reduced working days to save fuel
Amid rising oil consumption and import bill owing to higher international prices, the government is examining the possibility of fuel conservation through reduced working days a week. It hopes to save an estimated annual foreign exchange of up to $2.7 billion.
The estimates are based on three different scenarios in terms of working days and fuel conservation prepared by the State Bank of Pakistan for foreign exchange saving of $1.5bn to 2.7bn.
In the first case based on four working days and three holidays in which retail is open like a weekend, the average POL saving is estimated at $122m a month or $1.5bn a year. It may be noted that 90pc of oil consumption is assumed for working days and the remaining 10pc for holiday in a month.
In the second case based on four working days, two holidays and one day of lockdown (retail to remain closed for one day), the saving in the shape of reduced oil import is estimated at $175m a month or $2.1bn a year.
In the third scenario based on four working days, one holiday and two days of lockdown (commercial activities to remain off for two days), the POL saving in import bill could be around $230m or about $2.7bn. This case, however, is considered too harsh as it could negatively affect public confidence.

Population explosion is a real and imminent threat to our country. People may start moving to India in herds through under guarder land sectors and small sea boats. We may have to keep the tinder fire(cease fire violations) all along the border just to ensure this did not become routine. Same with small sea boats. We should not even respond to any human rights dog whistles and NGOs. Shooting down small sea boats once noticed is the only way to deter more such boats.

I used to think so too, but like most Paki 'liberals' he is a fraud, with an anti-India mindset. The fact that he is given so much media space indicates that that he is 'tolerated' by the establishment as a liberal face to give the impression that dissent and free media is allowed and that there are some thinking Pakis. Reality is that he is a nobody and impresses nobody in Pakistan, just gullible Indians who rave about him in the comments section.yensoy wrote:^^^^ Dr Hoodbhoy is one of the few thinking people left in Pakistan. On India he consistently draws the wrong conclusions, is spectacularly misinformed, and cherry picks his facts to pander to his assumptions and delusions. Yes by Paki standards he is rare, but no different in intellect and caliber than most of the population of India.
As a case in point, and counter to his seemingly 'sensible' videos, let me paste this video from his own youtube channel here:

The only useful thing from that video is an insight into the kinds of people who were allowed into senior positions under the Congress ecosystem (the guy sounds like an alter-ego of Hamid Ansari).
Re: Terroristan - March 31, 2022
Protest by Imran Khan is cleverly timed. Doha talks with IMF is supposed to end in the next 2 days. If deal is signed then petrol subsidies will go which will give ammo for the protest. If the deal is not signed because subsidies cannot be dropped then govt will be criticized for failing to tackle the economic crisis.
Re: Terroristan - March 31, 2022
What is Imran's game plan if he wins the elections? It is clear that US/IMF/World Bank will not support or help him.
Has Imran gamed his plan with openly allowing China a free run of Porkistan?

Re: Terroristan - March 31, 2022
He is not alone. The Establishment (or powerful factions of it anyway) are supporting him, and the plan (according to some Pakis) is that they want either PMLN or a caretaker govt to do all the tough decisions like raise prices for the IMF plan etc, take the blame for it, and then call elections where Imran is elected back to power and then rules like an Erdogan type quasi-dictator.
Re: Terroristan - March 31, 2022
Pervez Hoodbhoy is typical paki elite who hates India and loves the west. He does not think highly of Indian achievements and brings in India only after pointing out western awesomeness with a condescending “Even India is doing better”. Nowadays he slips in BD in front of India to rub India, as he always wanted. Over past decades, he was only mildly inconvenienced by the khaki/rags jihadi types so writes only in generic terms to remain healthy, that too only because it affects his western travels. Don’t be fooled by his “sober” assessments or claims of rationality. He is speaking about failed Kashmir policy more nowadays because he acts as the khaki establishment’s trail balloon when selling something to their meager “academic elite”, who are also happy with Kashmiri jihad till now.
What it distills down is this: Post-Art370, India has effectively shown that pakis don’t matter anymore to India and If they try to act cool, another Balakote strike package will glide in to put them in their place. So they suddenly realize the earlier payback of “importance in Sooth Asia” is no longer there for them and they are wasting money on Kashmir. Hoodbhoy is giving it a veneer of rationality (for their internal audience) and the usual democratic dissidence(for western audience).
What is with the haram name anyways? I thought hooded boy is a mark of kaffir during a lungi-test?

Is Hoodbhoy back in Pakistan now ? From what i remember he left Pakistan some years back when the khakis started going after all the so called "independent minded" journalists/intellectuals. For a while Hoodbhoy was tweeting from the safety of UK or US but may have now moved back. The other journalist who escaped the clutch of khakis is Dawn's Cyril Almeida, they put him on exit control list and slapped treason charges on him for daring to interview Nawaz Sharif who then had fallen foul with the establishment.
Re: Terroristan - March 31, 2022
Cyril Alameida is now Cyril Goodbhoy after the va-ISI-ctomy. But never let that change his chronic dislike of India

Re: Terroristan - March 31, 2022
I think that describes him perfectly. It is not possible to be a Pervez Hoodbhoy in Pakistan and not toe the khaki line. For some time I thought his name suggested that he is a Parsee. I was mistaken. Hoodbhoy, Keema, Hajam all have been compromised by the Fauj, and they are not independent agents any more (if ever).hnair wrote:Pervez Hoodbhoy is typical paki elite who hates India and loves the west.

Hoodbhoy is a very sophisticated man. Probably has some arrangement with paki deep state which leaves him free to comment.
Back in the 90s (before pokh 2) Hoodbhoy made a tour of India-pak friendship seminars in the US, "criticizing" the paki military by playing up how echandee-obsessed and reckless and ready to use nukes they are( first part is true, second part is a bluff, we know they are cowards) strongly hinting that India should be pressured to not make the jarnails angry.
Oh and he is also big on India-bakistan equal-equal drama.
His obvious intellectual heft and reasonable tone means that anyone even slightly inclined to aman ki tamasha will eat his words up.
He is the best propagandist for the TFTA kabila if you ask me,

Not only that, but this same gent and his colleagues took a U-turn a few days back (again on Bajwa's/ISI's urging) to bring Imran back into the reckoning by disqualifying the votes of PTI dissidents.
Karan Thapar was running India down in front of Najam Sethi, who was crowing about this on Paki channels, and really upbeat at the time. Now the disappointment is visible on his face every time he appears on TV since his chances of getting rid of Imran and getting a role in the PMLN setup seem difficult.

The crackdown against Khan’s PTI is being seen as an attempt by the authorities to thwart the sit-in planned in capital Islamabad starting on Wednesday and aimed at toppling the new government.

Yawn - Youth's responsibility to remove obstacles tomorrow: Imran
PTI Chairman and former prime minister Imran Khan on Tuesday urged the youth of the country — which he also dubbed the "attack force" — to power through all obstacles placed by the government on their way to Islamabad as part of his party's long march that is set to begin tomorrow.
He told his supporters to consider the march as "jihad" and not politics. "You must prepare yourselves [in advance] as the government might suspend mobile networks and target other communication modes."
He called on his supporters to "leave fear behind" as the government was trying its best to intimidate the PTI. "Will we accept the government of thieves because we fear going to jail? How many people will they send to jail, do they have that many officials? They can't do it. You don't have to be scared of anything."

Interesting time.
Yours truly's fourth cousin twice removed once had a "Toilet pipe" theory of Pakistan. It has to flow without obstructions. If you keep giving extensions to Jernails, the pipe gets clogged up, Pakistaniyat accumulates, pressure builds up, pipe bursts showering Pakistaniyat everywhere.
That is precisely what is happening. There have been only 4 COAS in the last 24 years! The pipe has to burst at one point or another.
