Arrest warrant against ex-Pakistan PM Imran Khan for remark against judge
Islamabad’s Margalla police station issued an arrest warrant against former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan over his remark against a judge.
India Today Web Desk , New Delhi, October 1, 2022
An arrest warrant was issued by Islamabad’s Margalla Police Station on Saturday against Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Imran Khan for his remark against Additional District and Sessions judge Zeba Chaudhry.
The warrant was issued hours after Imran Khan submitted an affidavit in a contempt case registered against him over his remark.
Imran Khan, on August 23, held a political rally in solidarity with his special assistant Shahbaz Gill, alleging that he was being tortured in custody.
During that speech, Imran Khan allegedly threatened judge Zeba Chaudhry, saying she should “prepare herself as the action would be taken against her”.

CIA back in bed with ISI https://www.sundayguardianlive.com/news ... ce-ghq-isi
They, however, indicated that the exchange of actionable intelligence was mostly in the spheres of tackling and controlling the Taliban, Al Qaeda, Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the ISIS—all confined to the neighbouring Afghanistan, where the US’ intelligence gathering capabilities came down by many notches after the withdrawal of its troops in August last year.
The rekindling of this old relationship—which was authored by Pakistan Army chief Qamar Bajwa and sorted out by William Burns, Director CIA, with the active involvement of top Pakistan general Faiz Hameed, who has always been on the “good books of the Americans” as one source said—clears the much discussed doubts on how the US forces managed to track down Al Qaeda chief Ayman Al-Zawahiri, who was killed on the last day of July 2022 by a US-executed drone strike as he strolled casually at home in Kabul, Afghanistan, which he was assured by his benefactors was out of bounds of the US forces and their intelligence tracking tools.
These recent parleys between the CIA and the ISI, in a way, also confirm the suspicions of the Taliban and the TTP that Pakistan was allowing the US to use its land and air space to operate drones.
The CIA’s response on these developments was awaited until this report went to press. Earlier last week, US State Secretary Antony Blinken, while responding to India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar’s statement questioning the sale of F-16 support system to Pakistan by the Biden administration, ostensibly to fight terrorists based in Afghanistan, said that the US had a “responsibility and an obligation to whoever we provide military equipment to make sure that it’s maintained and sustained. That’s our obligation. The F-16 will be used against terror groups.”

Strategic exhaustion
Strategic exhaustion
Pakistan currently has many of the familiar symptoms of strategic exhaustion like the slow growth of its economy, rapidly piling up external debt, fast depreciation of its currency, political instability and discontent, rapidly growing public debt, and increasing difficulties faced by the country in providing resources for its security and foreign policy needs. These alarming indicators call for urgent and decisive policy changes to ensure the nation’s security, rapid and sustainable economic growth, and political stability. Our inability to do so would expose the country to serious dangers on the pattern of what happened to the erstwhile Soviet Union.
The symptoms of strategic exhaustion given above have been aggravated over time because of Pakistan’s over-ambitious foreign policy agenda and imprudent security policies. Pakistan’s ill-conceived Kashmir and Afghanistan policies of the 1990s are a prime example of such flaws. In the case of Kashmir, our operational policy got too far ahead of our declared policy of extending moral, diplomatic and political support to the Kashmir cause with disastrous consequences for the Kashmiris and for Pakistan. There is little to show for that deeply flawed policy which lacked any strategic rationale or deep understanding of the complexity of the issue.
As for Afghanistan, we ignored the lessons of history for a country that had defied earlier attempts by the British and the Soviets to control it. Accordingly, we blundered headlong into the Afghan quagmire and tried to prop up the Taliban in our proxy war with Iran for influence in Afghanistan instead of promoting a negotiated solution of the internal conflict acceptable to the various Afghan parties. This is not to deny that Iran was equally guilty of committing similar blunders in Afghanistan through its support to the Northern Alliance.
Pakistan’s support in the 1990s to the Taliban, who espoused a retrogressive and obscurantist interpretation of Islam, tarnished its image throughout the world. Within Afghanistan, its pro-Taliban policy alienated it from most of the non-Pashtuns. Further, this policy encouraged religious extremism and a Kalashnikov culture in Pakistan, the aftereffects of which it is still suffering. Both Pakistan and the Afghans suffered in the process as reflected by the two-decade long post-9/11 war imposed by the US on Afghanistan, which caused enormous loss of human lives and material destruction in that country besides the negative blowback effects in Pakistan.
While Pakistan’s over-ambitious foreign policy agenda and its imprudent security policies have been responsible, at least partly, for the symptoms of strategic exhaustion mentioned above, these symptoms make the task of coming to grips with external challenges that much more difficult. Pakistan is now engulfed in a vicious circle in which an over-ambitious and imprudent foreign policy agenda weakens it politically, economically, and strategically while these weaknesses make the achievement of those ambitious goals even more elusive.
Finally, we must lower our sights to bring our foreign policy goals within the reach of our national power and resources. Our failure to do so would pose serious threats to our national security by inviting strong adverse reactions from our adversaries and by aggravating symptoms of strategic exhaustion. Further, adventurism on the pattern of what happened during the Kargil operation should be totally ruled out.

According to a statement issued by the ISPR, matters of mutual of interest, regional security situation and bilateral cooperation in various fields were discussed during the meetings.
COAS Bajwa thanked US officials for their support to the flood victims. Army Chief reiterated that assistance from our global partners shall be vital for rescue and rehabilitation of the flood victims in Pakistan.
"Both sides agreed that Pakistan and US have long history of bilateral cooperation and shall continue improving through economic ties, trade and investment," ISPR said.
COAS Bajwa also offered heartfelt condolence on the deaths and devastation caused by hurricane in Florida. Both sides also agreed to continue to cooperate through trade and investment.

So desperate regime change efforts going on (and mullahs own self-goals haven't helped) although I don't see any replacement that has been cultivated within Iran. Instead of confronting mullahs, Unkil should be cutting a peace deal with them and legitimizing them to counteract recent Saudi uppity behaviour. But hey what do I know, SD has the experts on how to screw up foreign policy.

Moody's cuts Pakistan's rating to Caa1.
Moody's cut Pakistan's sovereign credit rating on Thursday by one notch to Caa1 from B3, citing increased government liquidity and external vulnerability risks, following the devastating floods that hit the country earlier this year.
The floods, caused by abnormal monsoon rains and glacial melt, have submerged huge swathes of the South Asian country and killed nearly 1,700 people, most of them women and children.
The floods will also raise Pakistan's external financing needs, raising the risks of a balance of payments crisis, according to the rating agency.
Moody's outlook on Pakistan remained unchanged at negative.

Centre fears TTP attacks amid stalemate in talks
RAWALPINDI: Responding to a heightened risk of terrorist attacks by the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), the Ministry of Interior has issued a nationwide alert asking for ‘extreme vigilance’, instructing that targeted search and strike missions be carried out wherever militant activity is reported.
The missive was addressed to the home and chief secretaries of the four provinces, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, as well as the Islamabad chief commissioner. It urged all authorities to heighten security and exercise enhanced vigilance to avoid any untoward incident.
In a letter circulated last month, the Ministry of Interior warned that more than year-long peace negotiations between the TTP and the government of Pakistan “had come to a standstill”, which has led to unease within the TTP’s ranks.

Re: Terroristan - March 31, 2022
Afghan Taliban’s frustration
The regime in Afghanistan may have inked a few economic and trade agreements with its neighbours, but it has yet to secure formal recognition for its government from any side. The Taliban clearly understand why the international community remains reluctant to recognise them, yet their top administration insists on internal and external legitimacy on its own terms.
As its frustration grows, Pakistan has become the primary focus of the Taliban’s growing anger, and they have started to openly criticise the country. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif warned the international community at the United Nations General Assembly a few weeks ago about the presence and activities of foreign extremist organisations in Afghanistan, including those that have been targeting Pakistan. Interestingly, many other Muslim countries expressed concerns similar to those the Pakistani prime minister put forth. For instance, Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan called for cooperation among all countries to prevent Afghanistan from becoming a centre for the growth of terrorism.
Yet the Taliban regime displayed a strong reaction to PM Sharif’s speech. Amidst an outpouring of reaction from different Taliban officials, Afghan Deputy Foreign Minister Sher Abbas Stanekzai issued an extremely sullen statement accusing Pakistan of feeding off the Afghan conflict for economic gain. The most dangerous part of Stanekzai’s statement was that the Taliban have proof of Pakistan’s manipulative role in Afghanistan, and his saying that “If we rise against this, no one will be able to stop us”, can be interpreted as a threat that they have thought about responding at an appropriate time.
More than 16 diplomatic missions have started to function in Kabul since the Taliban takeover. The IS-K wants to discredit the Taliban’s claim that they can provide them with security. The IS-K attack against the Russian diplomatic mission in Kabul can be seen from that perspective.{Now, this could be ISI's handiwork when you look at it from that context}
The Taliban regime has managed to secure a few trade and economic assistance deals with China, Uzbekistan, Russia, UAE, Qatar, Turkey, Iran and several others apart from Pakistan, as well as the unfreezing of their assets by the US. However, the Taliban know this is insufficient to run the country’s affairs, and trade alone cannot be a substitute for formal government-to-government relationships.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s statement at the UN General Assembly when he held that Afghanistan was moving from chaos to order and urged the world to help Afghanistan in this critical transition should have boosted the Taliban’s morale. Similar statements had come from Russia and other neighbours, but the Taliban believe that Pakistan stands with the US and the West at this crucial juncture.
There is a common fault in the approaches of the Taliban and the security institutions in Pakistan. Both neither like inclusivity, nor can they manage it. It had been pointed out long ago that Pakistan should diversify its relationship with the Afghan people and that putting all its eggs in the Taliban basket could prove harmful. The proposal was given a half-hearted chance a few months before the Taliban takeover when the Afghan political leadership was invited to Islamabad for a dialogue over an inclusive government in Afghanistan. It was a late attempt and only triggered further bitterness against Pakistan among the Taliban.
Pakistan has not achieved much in return for its support to the Taliban, especially concerning its key interests, such as border security, elimination of terrorist networks and trade and connectivity with the Central Asian states. Yet, the architects of Afghan policy in Islamabad have not entirely given up hope and still believe that once the Taliban regime overcomes its immediate economic and humanitarian crises, it will prove to be Pakistan’s best ally. The foundations of such claims are dubious, and if there is some supporting evidence, it should be brought into the public realm, especially in parliament.

Re: Terroristan - March 31, 2022
According to this report TSPA has willingly let TTP return to SWAT as part of a larger peace deal it brokered in Afghanistan.
Why and how is the TTP resurfacing in Swat?
Why and how is the TTP resurfacing in Swat?
Thousands of protesters took to the streets of Swat on Tuesday, demanding protection against militants, a day after unidentified gunmen sprayed bullets at a school van, killing the driver and injuring two children.
The protesters spent the whole night in the open at a square in the city centre, along with the body of the slain driver, Hussain Ahmad. They dispersed over 40 hours after the incident, only after the authorities promised to arrest the culprits and pay compensation to the driver’s family.
The residents of Swat are no strangers to incidents of terrorism and its spillover effects. At least two million people were displaced from the area in 2009 when the Pakistan Army initiated Operation Rah-e-Rast in a bid to clear the area of militants. Memories of the brief period prior to the military operation — when schools were forced to be shut, men and women were flogged and bodies would be thrown in the main squares of Mingora and other parts of the valley — and even the fighting itself are still fresh in the residents’ minds and they want to avoid a déjà vu situation at any cost.
The return of TTP militants to their respective areas is part of the TTP-government negotiations being held in Kabul, Afghanistan, but no agreement has been reached to this effect. It therefore remains unclear who, if anyone for that matter, allowed the militants to return before a formal deal had been reached.
It is believed that some TTP members were allowed to come back as a goodwill gesture and confidence building measure to take the fragile peace process forward.
Although the military had earlier dismissed what it termed a “misperception about alleged presence of a large number of proscribed organisation TTP’s armed members in Swat Valley”, the protests over the last few months indicate that the people of Swat will no longer trust such statements.
The huge anti-terrorism rally in Swat on Tuesday is a message to all, especially those who have decision-making power in security-related matters. As the security institutions are primarily involved in talks with the TTP, it is their responsibility to assuage the people’s apprehensions, which would not be possible as long as the negotiations are shrouded in secrecy.
Over the last several months, the Afghan Taliban government has hosted several rounds of talks between the TTP and representatives from Pakistan’s government and security apparatus in Kabul. While these talks have little to show for the desired result of a peace deal, the Afghan Taliban now have more pressing matters to deal with internally to spend time on playing mediator.

Zeeshan Hanif, CEO, Pura Spring, says that the company wanted to introduce healthy drinking water and points out that Pura Spring is “not just a category of bottled water that is available in Pakistan; We have introduced a new sub-segment – natural spring water that we source in Gilgit-Baltistan. We realised that this sub-segment is missing in Pakistan, and it is lucrative to establish it as many people prefer to buy imported brands such as Evian and Fiji.”
Hanif, in his “search for healthy spring water”, explored northern Pakistan and recalls that Dr Henri Coanada, known as ‘the father of fluid dynamics’, commented that the water in Gilgit-Baltistan is the best in the world, referring to it as ‘the fountain of youth’.
For Hanif, although imported brands such as Evian and Fiji are Pura Spring’s competitors, he is of the opinion that Pura Spring is superior. “Firstly, because imported brands take two to three months to arrive in Pakistan and they are often close to their expiry date.
