Doesn't the central MFD show a radar scan raster?
Saar, That seem to me as a grated (i.e. multicolour) reflection off the display surface. The clean outline of colourful circle that is absent everywhere else, is my clue.

All this while I was looking at the bottom centre MFD wondering what you lot could see! The one you're talking about is used for weapons/stores management if I am not mistaken.

one immediate point, they need a wider HUD for the future, preferably a bracketless one.

point two : for psy-ops you need to take the pic of a cockpit that has all its gizmos on ! ;)

Can somebody tell me (or give me a link for) more details of Navy LCA? What will be the difference to IAF LCA, what empty weight and MTOW will it have?

What is that calculator look alike just below the HUD in LCA cockpit? Why is it not present in any other aircraft?

neeraj - The F-22 has it, so does the MiG-35. I suspect it is the weapons control unit.

You are referring to the up front programmable controls (UFPC) for the HUD. These allow quick acquisition and manipulation of data in the HUD field of view. All modern HUDs have them.

the control stick in front of the display panel is very close..is it in the pilot's obstruction of the panel? it appears to be very close in the picture.

Thanks. I googled using UFPC as keyword and here is what I struck.

http://www.drdo.com/pub/techfocus/oct04/avionics.html

Based on the googling, I infer that it is an input device to enter navigational/mission data into the mission computer in addition to providing inputs to HUD. Correct me If I am wrong here.

its an excellent colour scheme as well. as it is, the LCA is tiny, in a very light gray/blue scheme, it'll be very difficult to spot, even at close range..now all they need to do is paint a canopy on the underside and it'll be near perfect.

The LCA is almost visually in-visible, take a look at this video, it nearly disappears when it pulls up into the vertical and that too in a clear sky, just ****** awesome.

I found this forum randomly when I was been searching about My tutorial backlinks:) I´m very glad that you like the images. We have printed this image on A2 poster format in our studio so I can provide higher resolution image for fans:)

Unfortunately the magazine article doesn´t have any english translation.

Hello Pavel,

Do you have plans to market the high res poster? I would buy one of each poster if it is priced competively (5$ per poster  )

I apologize if this has been posted before. Could someone shed some information on the wing design for the Tejas? I've read about the shape itself, being like the Viggen's minus the canards, of course. I am curious about what appears to be a canted wing - leading wing root is high, then slopes rearward, to end lower than the middle of the fuselage near the exhaust. This is quite different from say the Mirage 2K, for example. It wasn't apparent to me before these awesome renderings.

Does that basically help in the angle of attack or cruise?

In fact, I cannot really find any other fighter where the wing is canted downwards like this (not Mirage 3/5, not F16, not rafale/ef2000, no MiGs). The closest I can tell with layman's eyes is the F-16XL.

Have you seen a F-4 Phantom or even the Sea harrier..

The biggest canted wings were in a WWII corsair.. nothing new...

Rahul - Thank you. Some of the links are dead. However the wikipedia article confirmed my curiosity. High AoA seems to be the answer. Pretty clever design, it suggests.

Sam - I think my use of 'canted' :D threw you off. Its not like the F4, Harrier or Corsair.

Re: LCA news and discussion

Post by neerajb »

By 'canted' he meant Anhedral. But I think, Devesh is talking about Angle of incidence of the wing and not the wing-root twist. For level flight, it would be desirable to have the fuselage levelled too and hence a small positive incidence angle. In commercial airliners the incidence angle is very prominent but, I guess, at supersonic speeds the particle character of air is more appropriate then fluid and hence Bernoullie's theorem gives way to lift generation by compression and that is the reason many supersonic jets have almost 0 angle of incidence.

Cheers....
