Oh the food reminds me, that there is usually a very generous chai party right after the launch.
Lots of tea and pastries there.
I remember the goa shipyard launch days. This was the only day as a kid I could have Tea like the grown ups and those pastries were. yum yum.

times tv is showing the old foxtrot and just talk talk talk with the punk
anchor saying "you are seeing arihant on your screen now" . to a layman
he will think its arihant.

but news is that PM has finally pressed the switch, its a healthy 6000t boy
and two other twins are also developing nicely in womb.

Some Navy Vice admiral on Times Now:

- SSBN - ultimate weapon for the GoI
- SSN - ultimate weapon for the Indian Navy

^^^
Gurus please elaborate
----------------------

Next stages after this for INS ARIHANT:

1. Harbour trials ,checking all eqpmnt
2. Sea surface trials
3. Depth trials
3. Max depth trials
4. Weapon Firing trials.

The declared operational. Time 2-3 years

A fully credible defence involves operating many such submarines providing continuous watch should hostilities arise.

The interesting thing is that, the Navy will only own and operate the sub. The missiles will be the property of the Nuclear Command Authority, headed by the PM.

The SSBN have a load of the Ballistic missiles which are under the Government control. The SSNs are free to hunt other ships or subs under the navy.

TIMES NOW doing a very decent job when compared to others. A full 10 minute section instead of showing stupid fatsos eating parathas and dogs being castrated

Watch DD. The first videos or pictures if any will appear on DD. Only then will they be distributed to the rest of the DDMs who will have to write "Courtsey:Doordarshan" on the clip.

A video clip should appear by evening.

Times Now is suggesting that Arihant can launch from under the ice-cap. However, is the ability to launch from underwater dependent on the submarine or the missile?

I am assuming that the submarine will remain submerged while launching the missile, and the missile will punch through the ice. Is this not the case?

Thanks!
Mohan

AshokS wrote:As this is the first of its type, there will be lots to learn from it for future variants. While doing my undergrad at RPI back in the 1990s, I did a summer program funded by DARPA and Electric Boats on distributed engineering mockups (this was the era when the 777 was also fully mocked electronically before it was built). They were trying to build submarines without having to go through the deep pain of the first in the class. They would use these systems to do a VR walkaround on the sub, for example to check in the engine room if the "mechanic" (or whatever they are called) would have sufficient space holding a wrench or other tools on the equipment. They could see with the VR mockup if there was clearance or not. Apparently before this the first and second of the boat series were "custom" and standardization occurred only later down the production run. As this was in the mid 1990s, you can only imagine what the DARPA boys are doing today.

Ashok saar... a humble request... if you are knowledgeable about Virtual mockups and virtual manufacture, please do try and get in on the LCA project...they are looking at this exact area, but as Subramanyam admitted in AI09, we are way behind in it. We can use all the Khan-trained expertise we have...
