Brave People the Tibetians.

Tibetans to storm Chinese embassy foiled
The activists, under the banner of Tibetan Youth congress, arrived at the embassy at around 10.30 a.m. They were wearing yellow jerseys and headbands with messages like 'Stop cultural genocide', 'No Olympics in China' and 'Free Tibet'.

About 100 Tibetan activists tried to storm the Chinese embassy on Wednesday - a few hours before the Olympics torch reaches here. However, the protestors were whisked away by the police.

The activists, under the banner of Tibetan Youth congress, arrived at the embassy at around 10.30 a.m. They were wearing yellow jerseys and headbands with messages like 'Stop cultural genocide', 'No Olympics in China' and 'Free Tibet'.

A large posse of policemen and central paramilitary forces was present around the embassy. A minor scuffle ensued between the security personnel and Tibetans who resisted being detained.

The protestors, who were chanting slogans like "Hu Jintao murdabad" (Down with Hu Jintao), were taken to a nearby police station.

Fearing a repeat of the disturbances that marred the torch relay in London and Paris, commandoes from paramilitary forces and thousands of policemen have been posted along the two-kilometre route from the presidential palace Rashtrapati Bhavan to India Gate, the World War I monument in the heart of the capital.

Some Tibetans who have been camping here ahead of the Olympic torch relay have reportedly gone missing, "probably to stage surprise attacks", said intelligence officials.

Very nicely put!!! I guess GOI is literally scared of "Stick"only. I always wonder why China and Pakistan are never afraid (of world opinion etc) in their aggressive behavior and actions against India. Is the "world" for them different than ours???? India has always tried to justify their aggression using fetish ideologies and self proclaimed "higher intellectual grounds". Result has been "disasters" since 47. Fact is that the world only looks at as "meekness". Let it be "lakshman Rekha" during kargil or this "brutal" bans etc on Pro-tibet rallies etc...... Where is the "benefit" for India in all these ideological fetishness.....

Mao was giving guidance in the run up to the attack on India in 1962. He told his men that there would be international outcry for India, but it does not matter. All that matters is the performance of Chini soldiers on the ground.

India---i don't know of ancient India, but definitely modern India---is always seeking appreciation & affirmation of the world, mainly the West. The West also uses its "approval" in a strategic way to secure what it wants.

Who is right? I hate to say, the murderer of 30 million Mao is.

when one controls the terrorists and the army, it is easy to provide security against civilians disrupting the Hitlerian olympic torch.

People are being whisked away for Paki iStyle debriefing...

China detains Tibetan singer in wake of anti-Govt. protests
BEIJING (AP): Chinese security forces have detained a well-known Tibetan entertainer in the wake of last month's anti-government protests, her husband said Wednesday.

Singer and song writer Jamyang Kyi was first detained on April 1 and has not been seen since April 7, her husband Lamao Jia told The Associated Press.

Jamyang Kyi is a veteran producer in the Tibetan-language section of state-run Qinghai TV in the western province of the same name. She has performed extensively abroad, including at New York's Columbia University in 2006.

Chinese security services have in recent weeks questioned large numbers of Tibetans who have travelled internationally, Radio Free Asia said. She has not been specifically linked to the protests.

Lamao Jia, who works at Qinghai TV's entertainment department, said he didn't know who had taken his wife into custody. He said he was staying home to look after the younger of their two children, but declined to elaborate.

The following is the Route:

The torch will move to LNJP Road, Ramlila Maidan,Ranjit Singh Flyover, Barakhamba Road, Kasturba Gandhi Marg and ending in Jantar Mantar
The flame will be carried by Nafisa Ali, Swami Aginivesh and 50 other people, some big personalities are expected but is being kept secret as of now. Hopefully a large Indian crowd will show up.

Intelligence
Bureau warns of Chinese militant attack

[quote]A specific input from the Intelligence Bureau on attempts to disrupt the Olympic Torch Relay to be held in Delhi on April 17 has sent security agencies into high alert mode. The input has stated five Chinese nationals from Xinjiang region of China are in Delhi and pose a threat to the relay.

What makes the input important is that it has pinpointed information about the five men –– their names, where they are staying in Delhi and the mobile numbers of a friend of theirs. The IB has even provided their photographs.

According to the input, a copy of which is with the Hindustan Times, the five “Uyghursâ€

PLA Torch

Of course, Vikasji, v have to live up 2 our reputation for terminological exactitude. Here's a quiz:

Which torch represents the ideals of the Olympic Movement?

1. The torch sneaked around the backroads of the cities of the world, "protected" by a bunch of rude thugs, with the local police forced to beat up the peaceful protesters who are disgusted to see it, carried in armored cars and special jet airplanes?

2. The torch, or whatever, carried by the people of the world, spontaneously supported by those who stand for freedom of expression, nonviolence, and the protection of cultures of those least able to defend themselves, inspired those who stand up for the truth and their rights in the face of impossible odds?

No contest. You can call the first one the Thugs' Torch or be more politically correct and call it the PLA torch. PLEASE don't call it the Olympic torch.

How come the PLA torch bearers/security at PLA forward base in Pindi are PLA SDRE onree :P What happened to the TFTA variety seen in the Paris-London-SFO leg of the journey. TFTA for Oiropeans and SDRE for Asians smells of major psyops.

Chinese Student in U.S. Is Caught in Confrontation
By SHAILA DEWAN

DURHAM, N.C. — On the day the Olympic torch was carried through San Francisco last week, Grace Wang, a Chinese freshman at Duke University, came out of her dining hall to find a handful of students gathered for a pro-Tibet vigil facing off with a much larger pro-China counterdemonstration.

Ms. Wang, who had friends on both sides, tried to get the two groups to talk, participants said. She began traversing what she called “the middle ground,â€

Bizarre security norms torch spirit of Olympics

Posting in full since the article is short and I wish to highlight the full nature of security deployment
New Delhi: That security would be tight at the Olympic torch relay in New Delhi on Thursday was a given but the government is taking the arrangements to levels never seen in the city before.

The Government on Wednesday issued an advisory for the relay on Rajpath, points of which are bizarre to say the least. Windows and doors of all buildings facing Rajpath will be closed from 1300 hrs IST onwards.

No visitors will be allowed to enter government buildings overlooking Rajpath after 1300 hrs IST. Visitors cannot leave the buildings after 1300 hrs IST until the relay gets over.

Only government employees with identity cards will be allowed to access these buildings or leave these buildings. Only from military, police and security personnel will be allowed access to rooftops and balconies near Rajpath.

Fire safety checks will be carried on all buildings on the route and incinerators will be banned for duration of the rally. Nobody will be allowed to assemble on the lawns of North Block and South Block.

Security agencies are cautious after two days of protests by Tibetan activists. IANS reports about 100 Tibetan activists tried to storm the Chinese embassy on Wednesday but their plan was foiled and 63 of them were detained.

The activists, under the banner of Tibetan Youth Congress, arrived at the embassy at around 1030 hrs IST in two buses. They waved Tibetan and Indian flags and wore yellow jerseys and headbands with messages like 'Stop Cultural Genocide', 'No Olympics in China', 'No Torch Relay in India' and 'Free Tibet'.

Security at the Chinese embassy, which has been fortified for almost a month, was intensified with more anti-riot personnel and concertina wires around the periphery of the complex. After staging a protest outside the sprawling embassy, a group of young Tibetans carried out a car rally around the capital's diplomatic enclave.

Nearly 10 cars, smeared in white and yellow paint with messages like 'Free Tibet', were part of the rally. Activists occupying the small cars were chanting anti-China slogans. However, policemen didn't allow them to stop near the embassy.

Fearing a repeat of the disturbances that marred the torch relay in London and Paris, commandoes from paramilitary forces and thousands of policemen have been posted along the two-kilometre route from the presidential palace Rashtrapati Bhavan to India Gate.

Kiran bedi was correct it was a literal cage

-Guarded by as many as 17,000 security personnel

-With a three-layered security ring akin to Republic Day arrangements in place

-No public allowed

-All roads blocked and metro stopped into the area

-Several offices had been vacated, roads sealed, barricades put up at various places near the route

-As usual biased and towing to GOI line media coverage. Ignoring majority of the protest.

I wonder how much did it "cost" in losses in terms of productivity and ecnomics for the citizens of Delhi!!! Plus the wastage of tax payers money for virtually converting this part Delhi into a "security fortress"

All this to appease China !!! for what?? what is nation got to gain !!!

I think commies and especially Karat will get a tap in the back by their masters. I guess this is a new begining of yet another meek Indian era towards China. Lets see what lies in future in terms of Land issues and future water issues. China has already tested Indian resort !!!!!!

Brinda Karat and Sonia Gandhi, with MMS and Praksah Karat sitting in the armored car with the PLA goons, making wolf whistles?

Ravi Shastri - I thought he was just a pompous bore. But at this point, that would be a grave insult to pompous bores.

Scores arrested in India as torch relay ends
The scaled-back 2.3-kilometre (1.5-mile) relay lasted little more than 30 minutes without any disruption.

Relay participants were tightly marshalled by track-suited Chinese security guards, and allowed to run a few metres (yards) each.

An estimated 16,000 police, soldiers and even elite commandos were deployed to throw up a huge security cordon around the avenue between the presidential palace and India Gate, two of New Delhi's main landmarks.

"We have around 170 to 180 people in custody," a senior police official told AFP after a day marked by a string of protests and shrouded in a fortress-like atmosphere of tracker dogs, bomb disposal units and metal detectors.
Seventy Indian sports figures, entertainers and others took part in the torch run, including Bollywood actors Aamir Khan and Saif Ali Khan, tennis player Leander Paes and officials from China's embassy in New Delhi.

"I am not a great supporter of China's politics. I am sympathetic to what is happening in Tibet," Saif Ali Khan told reporters. "But at the same time I am here as a supporter of the Olympics."

Jiang Xiaoyu, the vice president of the Beijing Olympic organising committee, thanked India for it organisational skills.

"We have been deeply impressed by the beauty of Delhi and the arrangements and the Indian people's passion for the Olympic flame," he said as the relay ended

New Delhi in lockdown over Olympic torch run

[quote]A rival pro-Tibet march was allowed a couple of miles away, but the torch itself had a cocooned and sanitized - and uninterrupted - journey. That may be contrary to the Olympics’ traditionally inclusive spirit, but it pleased China.

India has been wary of upsetting China since it was defeated in a border war amid the Himalayan mountains in 1962. That is the only time India has lost a war since independence in 1947 (it has defeated Pakistan three times) and it has been wary since then of upsetting its larger neighbor.

That virtual fear has been more evident in the past four weeks than for many years, with parts of New Delhi being barricaded to defend China’s embassy against Tibetan protestors. Delhi has not seen such a progressive lockdown - at least since the early 1980s - not even to protect a visiting head of state or to fend off terrorist attacks.

The boundary wall of the Chinese embassy compound has been surrounded with huge rolls of barbed wire and masses of police since Tibetan protestors scaled the wall on March 21. Roads around the embassy have been partially closed for four weeks, including an entrance to Malcha Marg, an elite housing area. From yesterday afternoon, 1,100 security forces guarded the embassy perimeter.

No other country has such a tortuous relationship with China. Many nations try to please the emerging superpower for commercial reasons - to ensure their companies have access for major contracts and trade, and so that they can try to influence China’s economic policies. India mixes a continued stand-off on the disputed Himalayan border with rapidly expanding trade and economic links.

Two-way trade is currently worth over $30 billion, and China has overtaken the United States as India’s biggest trading partner. Cross-border business investments are also increasing – Chinese telecom companies like Huawei and ZTE have made substantial inroads into the Indian market.

But India has never been comfortable about allowing Chinese investments in sensitive areas such as ports and high technology, and has frequently delayed Chinese business visas and investment permissions.

The fraught relationship was demonstrated after Manmohan Singh, India’s prime minister, made what appeared to be a successful and friendly visit to Beijing in January. Two weeks later, he visited the state of Arunachal Pradesh, in the far northeastern corner of India that China still regards as disputed territory. He described Arunachal as “our land of the rising sun,â€
