Paki always boast before a tournament starts and then ..... :rotfl:
Pakistan has never beaten India at a World Cup. But this year, Ahmed admitted his side would treat every match as a match against India.

“For us all nine matches are important so we will take every match as a match against India,” he said before adding, “We have beaten India in a bigger event recently so we will have that advantage”. Pakistan beat India 2017 ICC Champions Trophy where Mohammad Amir was in devastating form and led his side to a memorable win.
He is talking of a win two years back but conveniently forgets the 2-0 whacking India gave to pakis in the Asia Cup much more "recently" .

‘Pakistan’s nuclear bombs not for Eid either’: Mufti hits back at Modi

Indian opposition leaders including occupied Kashmir’s Mehbooba Mufti have hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for bragging about the country’s nuclear capability for electoral gains.

Addressing an election rally in Rajasthan on Sunday, Modi threatened Pakistan, saying India’s nuclear capabilities were not being kept for “Diwali”.

Pakistan had denounced the statement, terming it “highly unfortunate and irresponsible”.

Mufti, a former chief minister of occupied Kashmir, took a jibe at Modi’s statement, saying if India’s nuclear were not meant for Diwali, Pakistan’s nukes were not meant for Eid either. When did Terroristan appoint Ms Mufti as its spokewoman?

“Don’t know why PM Modi must stoop so low & reduce political discourse to this,” she tweeted.

Similarly, senior Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia said the nuclear button and the army were not the property of one individual, adding that the Modi-led BJP only stood for the politicisation of “every single institution” of the country, reported NDTV.

His party colleague and former home minister P Chidambaram echoed similar sentiments.

Nationalist Modi has used anti-Pakistan rhetoric to exploit the sentiments of the local Indians in a bid to secure the second tenure in the office.

Tensions with Pakistan soared after a suicide bomb attack in the Indian occupied Kashmir in which 40 Indian paramilitary police were killed.

Comments : Mufti and the other Indian Leaders have never said a word when Pakistan has been lecturing India about being the Islamic World's AATAMI TAAKAT! Khangress Leaders are another story.

Almost two months after India asked the US to examine Pakistan's use of F-16 jets on February 27 in retaliation to the Balakot strike, News18 has learnt that a US investigation is still underway on the use of the military equipment. This is contrary to the claims made in a report by a prominent American magazine which said none of the F-16 jets in Pakistan were "missing" and all the fighter planes were "present and accounted for". The US has been tight-lipped on the issue, merely reiterating that as a matter of policy it does not publicly comment on the contents of bilateral agreements involving US defence technologies. This essentially means that it will not publicly disclose what the agreement with Pakistan on the use of F-16s says.

'IMF programme will kill Pakistan's economy' - Shahram Haq

LAHORE: The current structure of the federal finance ministry is the weakest since the 1990s, remarked former finance minister Dr Hafiz Pasha.

Speaking at the launch of his book, ‘Growth and Inequality in Pakistan’, Pasha said the capacity of the Ministry of Finance was shamefully low and it was not able to control the ongoing crisis.

“They don’t have the capacity nor do they have a senior professional economist who is specialised in fiscal policy,” he said. “The DG debt was hired after a gap of many months and it’s not surprising; believe me we are running into a difficult economic state.”

Apart from institutional capacity, he outlined consistency and credibility as other major issues for the current government. “Unfortunately, the government has not demonstrated a very good record in this area, which did not give positive signals to private-sector investors,” he said, referring to the confusion and varying statements on getting the International Monetary Fund (IMF) loan and more recently on the amnesty scheme.

Pasha was of the view that the ability to manage crisis was not just the job of a technocrat, it needed political consensus, coupled with a broad-based understanding in society. “These are the measures which the government is required to take to steer the country out of crisis.”

Talking about the IMF programme, the former finance minister said the new government should have developed a macroeconomic framework first. “In the first meeting with the IMF, we should confront at the highest level that this is what we think, we are a new government, we want to take the country out of crisis and this is what we want to do. Unfortunately, such a framework and plan of action does not appear to have been presented,” he lamented.

“In fact, what we have today is the macroeconomic framework prepared by the IMF and that, to me, is very one-sided and secondary.” Speaking on the occasion, State Bank of Pakistan’s former governor Dr Shahid Kardar said the IMF programme always played a role in destroying Pakistan’s tax system.

“The way the IMF is structuring its upcoming programme, it is going to kill the country’s economy, they are not ready to listen and believe in this government,” Kardar remarked, adding that Pakistan needed time to change its tax system.

“With the IMF programme, which is for the next three years, the changes cannot be done and if our economy diminishes further, how can we increase our tax base.”

“Pakistan really needs to start worrying as to how it will manage its human resources in coming years. Fresh graduates may not get the jobs, which they are dreaming of,” he added.

Addressing the gathering, Punjab Finance Minister Hashim Jawan Bakht said the provincial government was looking for out-of-the-box solutions such as promoting public-private partnership to help improve governance and resource mobilisation. He emphasised that there were some structural changes on the expenditure side of the budget, including the sticky expenditure on pensions, which swelled significantly.

“In the last seven years, around Rs2,048 billion was spent on the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) in the entire Punjab, of which Rs1,048 billion was spent on Lahore alone and Rs1,000 billion was spent on the rest of Punjab. This created regional inequalities,” Bakht said.

Plan for world’s tallest tower in Karachi: $45bn real estate deal signed
The parties signed a deal in Abu Dhabi on Friday, which envisages a staggering investment of $45 billion in Pakistan’s real estate. Apart from some stunning projects, it includes construction of the world’s tallest building, which would loom large over the current tallest Burj Khalifa of Dubai.

In Islamabad, Ali Riaz, son Malik Riaz, confirmed the signing of the agreement.
As regards the timeframe, the chairman of Abu Dhabi Group said: “We will Insha Allah be welcoming first residents in next three to four years”.

All that oil will be consumed by the 'joint industries' being set up and operated by Germany and Japan on their shared border.

Pakistan needs diplomatic push to clear FATF hurdle - Shahbaz Rana

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has fairly met all conditions set by Financial Action Task Force (FATF) for second review but the authorities say Islamabad may not fully satisfy evaluators without launching a diplomatic offensive.

In an in-camera briefing, the Ministry of Finance, National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) and State Bank of Pakistan have given a “satisfactory report” on implementation of 27-point FATF Action Plan to the National Assembly Standing Committee on Finance.

The thrust of their briefing was that Pakistan has finally begun a journey on a path that leads to addressing the concerns of global bodies working to combating financing of terrorism and money laundering.

But at the same time, the finance ministry expressed reservations that the regional and global powers would undermine the efforts of Pakistan.

The committee was briefed that Prime Minister Imran Khan and Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa were committed to address all those issues that led to grey listing of Pakistan by FATF in February last year.

But the committee members were not fully satisfied over the briefing. The government did not give point-by-point briefing to the committee, depriving the parliamentarians from undertaking an objective analysis of where the country was standing.

The committee was not informed about exact level of compliance on 19 actions that Pakistan has to meet for the second review that will take place in June.

“Pakistan has sent a satisfactory report to the FATF on implementation of its action plan”, said Standing Committee Chairman Faizullah, while giving a brief statement to the media after the meeting.

He added, “All the technicalities of the review have been met but the work is going on the political aspects of the FATF”.

Without launching political and diplomatic offensives there were remote chances that Pakistan would be able to satisfy the FATF, at least three members of the standing committee speaking on condition of anonymity told The Express Tribune after the committee meeting.

Pakistan would launch a charm offensive to convince at least four friendly countries to back its case in the second review of the FATF.

The standing committee’s analysis was that the government had done some work but it may not be able to fully demonstrate its actions when they are confronted by the evaluators.

Islamabad had been given a 27-point action plan that the country will implement till September 2019. The FATF has placed Pakistan on the grey list of countries whose terrorism financing and anti-money laundering laws are described as deficient.

Out of 27 points, Pakistan is required to fully meet 19 point including 3 that the FATF did not declare satisfactory in the first review. Pakistan was also hopeful before the first review of the implementation of the Action Plan that took place in February but the FATF was not very impressed by the efforts.

But the committee chairman said that Prime Minister Imran Khan has held at least three meetings and the government was fully focused to fulfil all the conditions set out by the FATF. The administrative measures were taken at a fast pace and the legislation work was also underway to address the FATF’s concerns, he added.

‘India presses for Pakistan to stay on terror financing list’

He said that Anti Money Laundering Amendment Bill 2019 has been submitted in the National Assembly and it will soon be enacted soon.

The Joint Group (JG) of the International Cooperation Review Group (ICRG) of the Asia Pacific Group would hold a face-to-face meeting next month in Sri Lanka. Pakistan is a member of the APG and its case is being presented before the FATF by the APG. India’s Financial Intelligence Unit’s (FIU) director general is the co-chair of the Joint Group.

After the JG meeting, Pakistan’s case will be presented in the plenary meeting of the FATF that will be held in June.

Pakistan has asked the FATF to remove India from the co-chair of the Joint Group. Former finance minister Asad Umar had also met with the FATF President Marshall Billingslea to appoint any other member as co-chair of the Asia-Pacific’s Joint Group, in place of India, to ensure that the FATF review process is fair, unbiased and objective.

But FATF did not accept Pakistan’s request.

The authorities briefed the standing committee that Pakistan has made an extraordinary progress on implementation of the Action Plan. The committee was informed that significant progress has been reported by the customs authorities in seizure of cash at Afghan border. But the customs authorities did not provide a breakup of how many those seizures were related to terrorism financing.

The inter-agency cooperation has also been improved between the federal and provincial governments.

The provincial counter terrorism departments have started registering terrorism financing cases. According to a new policy approved by the premier, the joint investigation teams (JITs) have also been tasked to conduct financial investigations in all terrorism-related cases. The policy has been designed by the Combating the Financing of Terrorism (CFT) wing of the National Counter Terrorism Authority.

The provincial CTDs have been given powers to investigate money laundering cases.

As per the FATF requirements, the details of 7,200 proscribed persons were now publically available, which is maintained under the fourth schedule.

The committee was informed that the government has frozen the assets of the banned organizations. But NACTA did not inform the committee about the categorization of eight proscribed organizations.

India was pressing Pakistan hard by using the FATF platform to get these banned organizations declared high risk.

The officials informed that the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) significantly improved risk-based approach to contain risks in non-profit organisations.

^^ Saw an AV news report from Shitland that said all the state governments have now even given up the attempt to show doing any allocation in the education sector. The allotments and budgetary support is only on paper with no investments being done or funds provided to run municipal/government schools. Result is that only the upper middle class and rich are able to afford the private schools and the poor turning to madrasas. Net effect will be no job opportunities for the majority of the paki population and middle class that is vital for any society is being wiped out and more and more people being pushed to the poor class. The figurehead prime minister - Khurram Husain - Cyril Almeida II Avtar

HOW the mighty have fallen! Just as we were all being told that it is too soon to expect results, that the whole thing of turning the country around and breaking decades of bad governance and undoing systemic problems from the roots upwards, we woke up one day to learn that it is certainly not too soon for the great leader to expect results.

Never mind Asad Umar’s departure for a moment. It is Imran Khan who has been done for here. Less than a year into his term, and he has already become the closest thing to a lame duck without actually being one. It’s hard to tell who his own people are anymore.

Everybody has their theory on why Umar was fired, and so unceremoniously at that. He was delaying the MF agreement, the economy had ground to a halt and the business community was up in arms, he didn’t communicate properly and was arrogant, he stopped the flow of funds to powerful lobbies, and so on. My favourite is the theory that says the opposition did it. Yes, the opposition succeeded in persuading the markets that Umar was not up to the job, and that success led to him getting the axe.

Never mind what the immediate trigger for the decision may have been. Fact is, he was lost from the very beginning. Look at the mini budgets for evidence. What started off as revenue-generating exercises quickly turned into packages of tax breaks for business, industry and speculators as the billionaires and trade and industry associations thronged to the corridors of Q Block with their representations. When they found no quarter, they went straight to the prime minister. Word in the business community was that if you don’t get what you want in Q Block, then find a way to get to the prime minister, flatter him and reinforce his self-perception as a ‘saviour’ who has brought about transformative change in how the government functions. Then present your requirement as the panacea he has been searching for, the silver bullet that will turn the economy around.

Take a look, for example, at how the drug companies have played this government so thoroughly to raise prices of essential medicines by almost 300pc in some cases, and how the government has struggled to regain the initiative by talking tough and announcing crackdowns, all to little avail. That cat is out of the bag now — good luck putting it back in.

Look at how the exchange companies have played the government, or the stockbrokers who got long sought-after tax breaks for themselves in the second mini budget. Or look at the auto sector that got key documentation measures against non-filers withdrawn to boost their sagging sales, or at what the property sector is about to get into with the forthcoming amnesty scheme in which benami properties will be allowed to be whitened. One after another parade of racketeers has taken its pound of flesh by selling a story to this government, and the government has got little to nothing in return.

This was not Umar’s doing, but it was certainly on his watch and his beat. The key question in his mind all along was ‘who’s got my back?’ He got his answer. Now Khan needs to ask himself the same question.

Fact is, in this government, nobody has anybody’s back. It is everyone for themselves. The capriciousness with which Asad Umar was discarded by Khan made that very clear. Nobody is now in a position to antagonise any powerful, vested interest in the country. Nobody can afford tabdeeli in an environment like this.

One thing is certain, with the arrival of Hafeez Shaikh, the stalwart of the oldest of the old Pakistan. He is no change-maker. He is comfortable in the company of powerful men, and talks proudly about how he commands their confidence, from generals and presidents to Arab sheikhs and Wall Street billionaires. The one constituency entirely missing from his radar — not even on his map — are the people, particularly the poor.

Asad Umar warned while departing that his replacement would have to make “tough choices”. He said he was reluctant to take steps that would “make mincemeat out of the people” and saw merit in waiting, searching for alternative ways to improve the situation before taking the plunge into the necessary adjustment. He knew the forthcoming adjustment would bring steep political costs, as well as untold misery for millions of people. Inflation, unemployment, hunger and malnutrition and the general intensification of the struggle to survive are all coming our way, and this gave him pause to reflect, to hesitate.

Hafeez Shaikh has no such compunctions. He will do the needful without batting an eyelid, just like he did from 2010 till 2013. He took a severe beating for it back then, more than Umar can even imagine (at one point, even his own cabinet colleagues turned on him), but it mattered naught to him. He has no political skin in the game and knows which constituencies need to be kept satisfied to keep his boat afloat. And those constituencies don’t sit in parliament.

The cost of the adjustment will now be borne solely by Imran Khan, and given who he is surrounded by today, there will be fewer and fewer people willing to defend him and his government’s choices as he wades deeper into the waters of the adjustment ahead. And he will be largely powerless to call it off or blunt its edge.

Asad Umar is not the only one who has been lost all along. As time passes, the prime minister too is increasingly wearing the look of a lost soul. When was the last time you heard a good idea come out of his mouth, one that gave you confidence in his abilities? Think hard. By the time this ends, he might well be reduced to a figurehead prime minister, or perhaps worse.

The positive in this is the ABduls getting into Paki Military and Ordinance factories will be lesser skilled, so techincials and production will have to be completely imported along with equipment. Will also result in transport and support infrastructure for the Pakistani Miltary being weaker.

Yes not much difference in trend from the past, their education system was horse manure anyway. Pakis have always been Pakis and will continue to be so.

The difference from the past is actually in the external factors, especially the below:
1> They got a lot of free aid and propping up from America and other western countries including their proxies in the gulf. That spigot has now all but been turned off, with Chinese assistance resembling a Faustian bargain more than free aid.
2> India has changed, and is actually pulling away. In the past no matter how many mistakes the Pakis made, our being a socialist hellhole combined with many own goals that we made, let them keep pace with us. Now the situation is very different and the difference in trajectories is quite clear and only going to become more evident.

Given these circumstances in TSP, I really hope that the government has the chanakiyan sense to punish pakis on the border like never before. Nothing overt, but they should feel incredible heat on the border, to which they won't be able to even scream as they have to pretend to be the ultimate martial race

On his China visit, Imran Khan was welcomed at the airport by the Beijing Municipal Committe's Deputy Mayor. :rotfl:

^^^ Per Wiki the economy of Beijing is bigger than the economy of Pakistan. So it is appropriate that the Deputy Mayor welcome Dimran.
Economy of Beijing. Beijing's economy ranks among the most developed and prosperous in China. In 2013, the municipality's nominal gross domestic product (GDP) was CN¥ 1.95 trillion (US$314 billion). It was about 3.43% of the country's total output, and ranked 13th among province-level administrative units.

To be fair, Nawaz Sharif was also welcomed by the same Deputy Secretary General of the CPCC in 2017. This isn't equivalent of our municipal bodies but something similar to a state government. She would be the equivalent of a Deputy Chief Minister.
Nevertheless, their all weather friend did not send someone from the Foreign/Economic Ministry.

Imran Khan’s China play threatens Middle East headache for Beijing - Tom Hussain

The Pakistani prime minister has gone cap in hand to China in the hope it will partner Saudi Arabia and the IMF in bailing out his country

But Beijing will be wary of getting dragged into the rivalry between Saudi Arabia and Iran

Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has arrived in China for talks with his “iron brothers” that are likely to shape both his country’s financial stability and its involvement in Beijing’s Belt and Road Initiative.

The discussions will also help to shape a partnership of sorts between China and Saudi Arabia in the economic development of Pakistan. Beijing stands to benefit from an extension of its overland belt and road route from Xinjiang to the Pakistani port of Gwadar, but runs the risk of being dragged into the intense rivalry between Saudi Arabia and Iran.

Khan hopes China will join Saudi Arabia, an equally close ally, and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in pumping billions of dollars of emergency financial assistance into Pakistan’s threadbare coffers, to avert a balance of payments crisis caused by the profligate policies of his predecessor, Nawaz Sharif.

But the grandeur and warmth of China’s welcome is matched by its concerns about the Khan administration’s rebalancing of Pakistan’s foreign policy towards the West and Middle East. Its obsession with finding proof of corruption by Sharif in projects linked to the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), the estimated US$50 billion showcase of the belt and road, has also created concerns in Beijing.

The CPEC is a 15-year programme to connect China’s economy overland with the oil-rich Persian Gulf via restive Xinjiang and Gwadar on the Arabian Sea. Since the launch of the CPEC in 2015, power generation and infrastructure projects in Pakistan worth US$28 billion have either been completed or proceeded to advanced stages of construction.

“I think [the Chinese] are putting on a good front of being accommodating, and they will do their best to maintain a positive public narrative, but they had questions about [Khan’s] government before it took office, and the handling of CPEC and the China relationship writ large has given further cause for concern,” said Andrew Small, author of The China-Pakistan Axis.

First China insulted #Pakistani nation by sending municipality staff to receive PM Imran Khan at airport. Now China has shocked PAK military by showing #GilgitBaltistan as integral part of India during BRI Summit. Jay Ho.

In fact, we may realistically predict the following developments in the next two years or so. First, the economic crisis is going to leave most Pakistanis angry and alienated from the PTI government. A single spark could light a prairie fire. Second, The US-Saudi-Israeli plan for regime change in Iran is going to embroil Pakistan in its blowback by strengthening the India-Iran axis. Third, the US exit from Afghanistan is predicted to be humiliating, Washington will accuse Pakistan of facilitating its debacle and plan to take revenge by further cozying up to India. Fourth, the re-election of Narendra Modi will lay the ground for further destabilization of Pakistan. At times like these, nations need all their hands on deck.

But even more interesting episode to unfold in all this drama is the sudden arrival on the scene of Hafeez A. Shaikh. The slick doctor has served in both the Musharraf and PPP administrations, and now finds favour with the PTI’s government. Out of nowhere his name started being thrown around as a replacement, and within a day he was appointed ‘advisor’ to the PM on finance. A bit of perspective over his appointment would probably unravel the mystery, and also the intricacies of the workings of the global system.

Dr Sheikh can only be found in Pakistan when he is holding a ministerial portfolio. Otherwise, he vanishes without a trace, rarely heard or rarely seen. He also seems to have a job ready for him as soon as he leaves Pakistan.
...
...
Dr Sheikh would have another important function to perform. He would be keeping a close eye on the finances of the Islamic republic, letting concerned quarters know where things stand. Believe it or not, contingency plans would already be in the offing (if not already made) in case things get out of control. The spectre of a nuclear-armed Islamic country, with major part of the population drenched in Islamic fervour from head to toe, is a possibility too frightening to be left alone. The dysfunctional nature of the administration and its dire financial straits make Pakistan a dangerous proposition. That is why Obama named Pakistan when once asked about the one thing that keeps him up at night. The presence of a person like Dr Sheikh would ensure that the world has a real time picture of where things stand, at least in terms of finances.
