Project director for Agni, Tessy Thomas did state in the past that several new technologies were tested in Agni 4. I believe one of them could be MARV preparedness. MARV is nothing but self propelled warhead. Regarding the Agni 4 and Agni 3, 5 context, multiple final stages of Agni 4 with the warhead can be fixed over Agni 3, 5

That would explain why Agni 3 was showing a payload capacity of 2500kgs and Agni 5 1500kgs. Also it would explain the range reduction for these missiles

My few cents..

The icing on the cake and India's true arrival as a nuclear-weapons power would be when we have an ICBM aboard an Indian SSBN. Our goal should be for India to be able to launch an ICBM ,Trident class of missile, from subs operating in the deeps of the Indian Ocean able to strike any PRC target .It would be a hard task even for the USN to monitor Indian SSBNs operating in the IOR's vast waters. This would make the survivability of our second strike capability more assured and make our enemies ,existing and potential hesitate to attack us.

philip, the capability to launch trident class is easier to establish without p5 agreement than being open about being the 6th element. what goes in the trident class, how much of the maal is tested does matter. otherwise, the real forces know what the real content is.. and this is where, the deterrence is anyway.

i can show off i have an class-a device.. but, the proof of the pudding is inside the device characteristics.

Before waving any stick we need to test our post pokhran fixed designs incl a variable yield 100-300kt h bomb.
before that everything is Maya as our slbm mirv plans will be
crippled by current fbf heavy 550kg design...our agnis can also extend range nd speed with lighter hard hitting next gen designs.

though the indian lay public has no clue and couldn't care less
those we r trying to deter know these things very closely.

understood.. but how long the lay-away should be sustained? time laps have happened from our bad governance so long.. once we reach a turning point, then we need to establish a charter that is no looking behind, and forward thinking, all scripted to timed delivery shots to power nation.

if we think, we are inching closer by this pseudo power projections and this Philip ishtyle de-facto visions, and sabre rattlings, then we might as well encourage our lay public to enhance their knowledge to be more empowered to know where their souls are standing, w.r.t power projections.

and.. really, our aams don't really care about nukes right now.
