80 kg is about 180 lbs. Most dumb bombs are filled at 0.4-0.5 % explosive. This was equivalent of a 450 lb bomb.
And they must have used up quite a lot of RDX stock in Kashmir to execute this attack.
Very sorry that at the loss of life of the 40 policemen.
The CRPF has done everything in its power to prevent this.
The allowing civilian traffic during police convoy movement was a fatal gap in procedures.
Would like to know when and how this was introduced.
Twitter says its Mehbooba Mufti who forced this on the CRPF.

From what I gather from twitter - in 2014 on incident happened where someone drove their Maruti car through one barricade during one such convoy movement when roads were blocked, without stopping. Army men fired on the vehicle. Some casualties resulted. The soldiers were punished by army holding them guilty (to me looks like done under political pressure, at least I dont see why they should have been punished). Then the restriction on civil vehicle movement was removed.

The SOP for convoy movement should be reverted back to the older one with immediate effect for all Forces.

PS: Here is one news on it, FWIW. https://indianexpress.com/article/india ... llets-hit/

Meanwhile:From White House (Trump's spokesperson - Sarah Huckabee Sanders on Thursday night) :
The United States condemns in the strongest terms the heinous terrorist attack by a Pakistan-based terrorist group that killed over 40 Indian paramilitary forces and wounded at least 44 others...

"The United States calls on Pakistan to end immediately the support and safe haven provided to all terrorist groups operating on its soil, whose only goal is to sow chaos, violence and terror in the region

"This attack only strengthens our resolve to bolster counter-terrorism cooperation and coordination between the United States and India

There have been similar statements from Russia, France and other European nations, India's neighbors etc..
I am curious - about statements from Saudi's .

Army to decide time, place of response: PM Modi on Pulwama attacks
The political clearance for a military response was given by the PM-led Cabinet committee on security against the backdrop of mounting anger and horror over the biggest-ever terror attack on security forces in J&K and a growing clamour for retaliation against Pakistan, which has been held responsible by the government for the atrocity.

Sources said the CCS meeting factored in the possibility of an armed confrontation with a bellicose neighbour, but resolved not to be deterred by the risk of escalation. "They are going to get a nasty surprise yet again," said a senior government source familiar with the deliberations which were attended by home minister Rajnath Singh, foreign minister Sushma Swaraj, finance minister Arun Jaitley, defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman, NSA Ajit Doval and Army chief General Bipin Rawat among others.

Let us all spread these messages at every given opportunity and on every platform:
- Pakistan is responsible for all forms of terrorism.
- China is the sponsor for this and their behavior in the UN is very clear proof.
- Any person raising anti-national voices needs to be openly named and shamed along with their immediate family. Use social media and make their life difficult.
- Do not buy Pakistani/Chinese made goods wherever in the world you may be. Ask for goods not made in these countries so it spreads the awareness.

Trying to direct the rage into some form of worthwhile action...

Time to move the emphasis from showcasable single-shot things, to a systematic unrelenting set of actions that break Pakistan apart. No sense in risking soldiers' lives for anything that does not have "sustainable" effects. Clearly the world is ready for a good sustained response that leads to a Permanent Solution to the Pakistan Problem, judging by all the Condom-nations.

+billion heart times. I was about to quote you UB ji, but then now I don't have to. for political reasons, we must call out for joint efforts in this global action against terrorism..(heck even divert funds from abroad for this, need be)..

but, cold start etc.. time for action. politics now supports from both internal and external for this.

I just bought a $1500 lenovo laptop.. Feeling like shit now. Last time I am buying any Chinese product. SAY NO TO the following Chinese companies:

Lenovo
ViVo
Xiaomi
Oppo
OnePlus
HuaWei
Force Chinese disinvestment from PayTm.

I would rather pay more to buy stuff made elsewhere. ChiComs must pay for their sponsorship of Pakistan.

There is a difference between made in China, and China owned stuff. Even the iPhone is nominally 'made in China', but the value add in China for an iPhone is less than $25. Rest of that stuff is made in the US, Taiwan, South Korea etc. Its not so for the companies listed above.. Much more of the value add is in China. Therefore, prefer non Chinese brands over Chinese brands, even when both the choices may have been manufactured in China.

When we know its the Pakistani state that facilitated the attack, who motivated the attack, and who protect the attackers after the attack, why a limited strike against 'non state targets'? A strike against non state targets in Burma made sense.. because that govt. was not involved in the NSCN attacks.. Dont make it existential, but it is the state that must be attacked in Pakistan. Why should we think 'what happens if it escalates?', our goal is to make the Pakis think like this before planning and carrying out such attacks.

Any limited/precision air strikes will not make an iota of difference. Pakis will stage a counter strike, claiming a propaganda victory of sorts, and things will be 'as usual', and we will end up sleep walking towards the situation that these planners want to avoid. Or worse, they can pretend to be 'the peacekeepers' and 'refuse to respond to the escalation' while continuing to offer full 'moral and political support to the cause of human rights and democracy in Kashmir'.

To use a pahelwan like the Su30 or the IAF or the kolkata class, only to slap someone will not achieve anything, other than discredit the strength of the pahelwan, and remove the fear of the pahelwan from the miscreants. The miscreant should suffer at least break a broken arm or a leg.. a black eye.. Otherwise these so called precision strikes are meaningless and counter productive.

The only real option for us is to dramatically over react. Or be prepared for a Jihadi offensive across the length and breadth of India.

So how tough is it to bring in drones and get hi-res video of every one of these worthies, follow them to their homes and bring them in for a chai-biscoot? Male or female: throw stones at law enforcement? Enjoy govt hospital-ity. Maybe suffer a broken throwing arm?

Not just Kashmir-based sh1ts: same all over the country.

I think Current Govt seriously thinking about Air strikes. After Mumbai attacks, People blamed UPA for not showing spine to give Go ahead to IAF. NDA Govt want prove it is different compare to UPA mainly in case of National security.

After each incident Modi govt slowly removing nonsense restrictions(Surgical strike, MFN next may be IWT) kept on India by itself.

Very good. Anyone who thinks it is kosher to celebrate a brutal massacre like this needs to get arrested. Tar & Feather Them.

There is zero forgiveness for picking up arms against the State or celebrating the loss of uniformed personnel, that too in a terrorist attack like this.

Lot of rumors in this report..

https://www.oneindia.com/india/pulwama- ... 52210.html

Supergel-90 is a blasting agent that is commonly used in quarrying

Investigators also say that the bomb was carefully assembled in the vehicle. The initial probe suggests that explosives had a shaped charge, which was designed for maximum impact. As a result of such assembly, the bomb was able to penetrate into armour and also managed to reduce the bus to mangled steel parts.

If shaped charges have come to Kashmir, then its a tremendous escalation indeed. Even if the jawans were in a casspir, there would still have been a large number of fatalities.

All Party Meeting is scheduled today. Are we preparing for small size conflict

An all-party meeting has been called by the ruling party to discuss Thursday’s terror attack on a CRPF convoy in Pulwama in which 40 soldiers were killed and many more are battling for their lives.

This meeting, scheduled for Saturday, will be the first-of-its-kind called by the ruling NDA under Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the wake of a terror attack. The agenda of the meeting, it is understood, is to seek a unanimous view of India’s future course of action.

Indian Prime Minister Narenda Modi on Friday unleashed the country's military against rival Pakistan in response to a terror attack by Muslim separatists that killed 44 on Thursday.
"I know there is deep anger, your blood boils looking at what has happened. At this moment, there are expectations and the feelings of a strong response which is quite natural," Modi said in a speech mourning the police forces killed and those injured.
{Business Insider's Editors are ouiseaoules to sh1t their same old same old equal-equal, deleted}[

Following the terror attack, where an explosive-laden truck plowed into a bus carrying police forces, India said it had "incontrovertible evidence" of Pakistan's involvement in the attack. Pakistani-based Islamist militant group Jaish-e-Mohammad claimed the attack, but Pakistan quickly denied any official involvement.

"Our neighboring country thinks such terror attacks can weaken us, but their plans will not materialize," said Modi of Pakistan.

"Security forces have been given permission to take decisions about the timing, place and nature of their response," Modi continued.

Rajesh Rajagopalan, a professor of international politic :rotfl: at Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi, tweeted that Modi's statement was an "abdication of political responsibility," because he handed over control of the response to the military. :((

Christopher Clary, an international affairs expert :rotfl: and professor at the Rockefeller College of Public Affairs & Policy at the University of Albany :rotfl: , said that Modi unleashing the military had the potential to get out of control.

Additionally, the White House came down hard on Pakistan and urged them to "end immediately the support and safe haven provided to all terrorist groups operating on its soil."

I dont know why there is this expectation from the world that they will treat us as if we are equal to them.. An elephant has one set of teeth to show off and another to eat with. What do the Americans owe us? Why should they not be focused just on American interests? Why are we fooled by American rhetoric about equality and human rights? The less said about the British the better..

What rankles deeply is if Indians were only 50% as focused on Indian interests as the Americans are on theirs, strategically, India would be in a much better place.

We should give two hoots to American plans for withdrawal from Afghanistan and go hammer and tongs at the Paki ********. If the post Afghan issues are Indian problems to deal with, the present day Afghan issues are an American problem to deal with. Just do what needs to be done.

Modi unleashing the military had the potential to get out of control

Out of whose control? That is the question.

I think PM Modi should go on national TV and lay out the risk of nuclear attack, and say that living in fear is worse than dying in a big flash. That sometimes a painful operation is needed to remove a growing tumor.
And then give Gen. Vij the free hand to drive to RYK, while someone else drives across to connect with Pakhtoonistan at the Indus. Enough is enough.
Indians need to stop dhoti-shivering about the new clear bogey. This was the big lesson from Ronald "Ray-Gun" Reagan: he declared that he was tired of living under the insanity of MAD. Result: SU collapsed in a heap.

Terroristan is much less scary than the SU was. My guess is that a well-coordinated Liberation Movement in Balochistan and Balwaristan, along with a direct attack on Pindi-'Hore-Islamagood, will send the Jarnails and political netas scampering for the next plane to Jeddah.
