I have been thinking on no reaction from Pakis as if they want this to escalate and know Hans will come to rescue.

Hans seem to be directing the show. What are the chances of something happening in Doklam or NE once we engage with Pakis in West?

This way Hans can show that surgical strikes have not been deterence at all. Fits with opposition narrative of Modi ji as jumlebaz etc. If GOI risks response in that theatre then it is two front scenario.

With elections round the corner, Afghan withdrawl, US planning coup in Venezuela, emergency drama unfolding in US makes it 1962 Cuban missile crisis redux...

Big: Govt Sources confirm that security given to all Hurriyat separatists in Kashmir will be withdrawn in the next 48 hours. Orders for the same have been given. Fallout of the Pulwama terror attack. More details likely soon.

Ms. Sethi,

That Jaish is dead. And more will follow.

Do you hate the elected Gov so much that you celebrate the deaths of your own soldiers? Or do you hate the idea of India as well that these soldiers protect at the cost of their lives? Or do you not see that it could have been someone you know in that ill fated bus?

Rest in peace, jawans

Mumbai 2008 is still unfinished business, and this very recent outrage shows why certain powers and agencies do not want the Rafale or the Tejas deployed as having these provides the iaf with a significant ability to deter and punish, hence inducements were made to ensure the absence of the Rafale or tejas in iaf colours.

The attack was on very much on anticipated lines. Same happening in Afghanistan regularly/ last fortnight in Iran and then Kashmir. The epicenter of all located in Pakistan. Could have been avoided if we had not allowed civilian movement during convoy movement. If civilian traffic is allowed then route sanitazition is meaningless. Attack was anticipated if track the happening in our immediate vicinity. Precise pin point intelligence missing which is always very hard to come by in all cases. Retaliation will be overt and covert both. Since all ingredients like men material available in Pakistan on hire. It's only matter of deciding target regarding which instructions might have already gone. Overt operation on border expected to sooth out public anger. Internal security report card of Modi Govt is quite good and before election all effort will be made to tarnish same. Let's have faith in our Govt.

Yes! At least one of my hopes/suggestions has finally been implemented under Modi sarkar. I hope this remains.

My suggestions:

1.In-depth fire assault on Pak border posts for extended periods, all up to a week or more, as required. Tactical objective, casualty levels upto 10x of this attack. 400 for 40 of ours. Emphasis on senior cadre.
2.Withdraw from IWT. Meeting in Parliament to ratify this, and to ensure it goes above a temporary policy decision.
3.All Pak items in India to be banned, no Pak items can be imported, period.
4.Cancellation of all feel good initiatives in J&K in the specific militancy supporting regions. Full blown kinetic ops to target over ground workers.
5.Withdrawal of security to all the Hurriyat rats.
6.Build up WWR for a real conflict.
7.Once fire-assault phase is over, begin cross border ops which make the TSP BAT look like childs play. Use any and all methods. Mine commonly used approaches. Use snipers. Use any and all means to make the LOC as hot for them as it has been for us.
8. Withdraw all our diplomatic personnel from TSP, leave only a skeleton staff behind. They too are at risk.
9. Full spigot of funding opened to ANA & Afghan intel to contest the Durand line and reclaim their territory.
10. Full spigot of funding and training (moral and diplomatic support only etc of the right kind y'see) to Baloch, Sindh and all the oppressed Pakistanis who want to overthrow their Pakjabi oppressors.
11. Extra punitive tax on all firms which openly operate in TSP and want to operate in India as well. Upto the discretion of GOI whether to waive the tax or not.
12. Oppose any aid or financial assistance given to TSP in any aid fora.
13. Funding available for any and every TSP org that does targeted hits for money, against Jaish, LET etc. Enough criminals in TSP who will do it.
14. Talk to Iran about paying back TSP in the same coin on their side as well.
15. Make 10x casualty levels an official part of our response doctrine.

Why does anyone doubt that a response will not come under Modi and Doval. I am sure plans were made the last time this happened. Army Chief also said in recent past, they have many ways to do a strike.

Infact the response so far from the govt is moving smoothly, as if the steps taken were preplanned.

Respectfully disagree.. 26/11 was about sabotaging a budding peace process between Zardari and India. It was a one off. This latest double atrocity in Iran and India is an experiment, to test if they can get away with it in the changed strategic environment. If they think they got away with it, just wait for the rivers of blood to drench Indian soil again.

It seems like the b@st@rd suicide a$$wipe began his career in terrorism by initiating stone pelting in Kashmir and graduated to a bomber. Next time any media outlets/individuals/organizations tries to defend stone pelters, they should be reminded of this incident. Also, GoI please consider treating these stone pelters as a serious threat to our forces and give them the necessary approvals to deal with them as the forces choose fit.

Regarding: Indus Water Treaty abrogation

There is ample scope for a water diversion tunnel joining Chenab to the Ravi-Beas-Sutlej system - Modi ji should announce this project.

And begin withdrawing from IWT

1)Do a review.
2)Rightfully claim misallocation & underallocation.
3)Demand share in Chenab waters atleast during the peak season.
4)Link the treaty to other factors like clamp down on terror , access to afghanistan & central asia.
5)Demand a renegotiation - which will likely be shot down by the Pakis
6)Declare a notice period for withdrawing from the treaty.
7)From step 5) itself simultaneously implement the engineering project to link Chenab to North western canal system in India - via tunnel.Unless we dont start this project & sink serious money, Pakis wont believe that we are serious on diverting Chenab's waters.
8 )Keep offering Pakis a negotiating branch during every stage of this process to willingly allow them to come to a bilateral settlement on our demands in 4)& 5).

Chenab btw has the largest cross border flow of all the rivers in Indus system.

This may be a dumb question, but how difficult would it be to have a WSI type helo escort for the convoys to detect any suspicious movement in the vicinity and if needed deal with it with 20mm cannon or ATGM? At the very least it would provide enhanced surveillance cover to the convoys.

In addition to the withdrawal from IWT (As our PM said "Blood and water cannot flow together") India started on the much delayed Ujh project.
Centre, J&K Decide To Block Flow Of 531 MCM Water To Pakistan From Ujh Project, Will Be Diverted To Other States

Image

Srinagar, February 14: Availing surplus water to the regions in Kathua and its surrounding, the Central and the State government has unanimously decided to block 531 Million Cubic Meters (MCM) water which would have flown to Pakistan with the construction of Ujh Multipurpose Project and divert it to Punjab, Haryana and, if possible, even to Rajasthan with the construction of canals.

The decision was taken after a high-level meeting comprising of Governor Satya Pal Malik, Union Minister of Transport and Water Resources, Nitin Gadkari and Dr Jitendra Singh and top officials from J&K. It was taken into consideration as it was discovered that out of 781 Million Cubic Meters (MCM) water that the project was scheduled to generate, 531 MCM would have flown to Pakistan as Kathua and surroundings had the capacity to get 250 MCM water only.

Kathua as a region is set to benefit immensely in terms of irrigation with construction of canal and power generation from Ujh project, took up the matter with both Central and State Governments after which the high-level meeting was held in New Delhi. After the discussion it was decided that a roadmap would be devised immediately to block flow of 531 MCM water to Pakistan after construction of the project and instead spread this water to neighbouring State of Punjab followed by Haryana and, if possible, even up to Rajasthan as it has been observed that only 250 MCM water would reach Kathua and surroundings.

They added that the officers of Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab and Central Governments have been asked to devise strategy to facilitate use of surplus water by three Indian States of Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan and prevent its flow to Pakistan. The officers would meet in New Delhi on February 14 and finalize the strategy.

Pointing out that both Central and State Governments want foundation laying of Ujh project before imposition of Model Code of Conduct, which is likely by the end of February or start of March, the officials have been asked to devise the strategy keeping the deadline in mind.

The Centre as well as State Governments were confident that foundation stone of Ujh project would be laid well before the Model Code of Conduct is imposed to give pace to the project and ensure its completion within stipulated time of six years (from the day the project is launched). Total cost of the project has been pegged at Rs 5850 crore, of which Rs 4919.94 crore is irrigation component and rest is the construction cost. The high-level meeting of Central and State Government officials also reviewed various other projects, which are being undertaken in Jammu and Kashmir with the help of Central Government.

This decision was taken few days back.
F*** ecological flows from now on.
Fresh water being sucked off into Ujh project into Ravi-Beas-Sutlej link canal means the Jaish b****rds with their HQ in Bahawalpur will be forced to recycle sewage water for their drinking purposes.

A glimpse into peak season waterlevels in Satluj at Bhawalpur(Jaish e Mohammed Head quarter) as of 2017.

Doval pretty much said the same (prior to becoming NSA) a few years ago in the SASTRA University lecture all of us have seen.

"Once they know that India has shifted its gear from defensive mode to defensive offence they will find that it is not affordable (to engage in terror on Indian soil) for them."

Time to hit them so hard that they think 1000 times before engaging in such activities in the future.

https://www.dnaindia.com/india/report-p ... st-2720490

High-grade RDX explosive, weighing about 80 kilogram , was used in a suicide attack on a CRPF bus that killed 40 security personnel in one of the deadliest terror strikes on security forces in the Kashmir Valley in three decades, officials said Friday. The attack in Pulwama has prompted the CRPF to tweak the standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the movement of its convoys in the future, by providing additional security personnel in the buses that transport troops to and from the Kashmir valley.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh had also said in Srinagar that civilian traffic movement during plying of convoys will be restricted. The officials said a post-blast investigation conducted by security agencies has found that "high-grade RDX" of about 80 kilogram was detonated in the blast that was carried out by a Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorist after he rammed his explosive laden SUV into the ill-fated bus--HR 49 F 0637--from the left side. The suicide attack took place at the 272nd milestone on National Highway near Latoomode in Pulwama at about 3:33 pm.

The officials said the scattered remains of the bus, reduced to blackened bare frames after the blast, does not reflect that an improvised explosive device (IED) was used to target it.The fatal damage can be wreaked by a better grade of explosive like RDX, they said. The attacked bus was the fifth in the convoy of 78 vehicles which also included as many as 16 bullet-proof protection bunker vehicles that had joined the convoy an hour back from the last halt spot of Qazigund to guard troop movement.

The suicide attack was a novel way to ambush the convoy by ramming an explosives laden vehicle, leaving little for the mobile contingent's protection units to do, the official said. The terrorist drove the vehicle on the highway from a link road on the Kakapora-Lelhar side and was moving parallel to the bus belonging to the 76th battalion, and the investigators suspect the explosion was triggered, killing all 39 occupants.Assistant Sub Inspector Mohan Lal, deployed on the highway as part of the road opening party (ROP), also got trapped in the blast and was the 40th trooper to be killed.

The last such convoy had moved from Jammu to Kashmir on February 4 in 91 vehicles and had 2,871 personnel but all went well that day, they said. The movement of convoys was shut for the last few days due to bad weather in the valley.

OK if 80 kg RDX was sued the damage would have been even worse.
80 kg is about 180 lbs. Most dumb bombs are filled at 0.4-0.5 % explosive. This was equivalent of a 450 lb bomb.
And they must have used up quite a lot of RDX stock in Kashmir to execute this attack.
Very sorry that at the loss of life of the 40 policemen.
The CRPF has done everything in its power to prevent this.
The allowing civilian traffic during police convoy movement was a fatal gap in procedures.
Would like to know when and how this was introduced.
Twitter says its Mehbooba Mufti who forced this on the CRPF.
