They had to make a point that if the LOC was crossed, they can too... they have made that point. Score: 1-1

The above was expected, so the capture of pilots and loss of plane(s) are a difficult pill to swallow when they were ready for their retaliation.
So, we have to wait and find out what happened... then we can escalate if necessary. India still holds all the cards!

Would it hv been a better idea to send Mirage 2000s after the F-16s? Or only Su-30s can fight Paki - 16s?

NOTAM (Notice to Airmen to alert aircraft pilots of potential hazards along a flight route) has been withdrawn. Flight operations will resume

Damn I hope that is not a sign of de-escalation on the part of GoI and throwing in the towel.

Pakistan will do their outmost to show how caring they are for POW. IAF polit will be given a "royal" treatment and it will be used as PR.

Problem now for India is that it will have to escalate and show Pakistani damage.

My only fear is that their F-16's armed with sidwinder L are good and better then the ruski stuff on the MKI's. IAF only has 50 odd mirages. A question to the Gurus here. What exactly is the situation between IAF and PAF. Not on paper but in reality.

Why do i have a bad feeling about all this now. Especially after MEA is doing the briefing.

there is no upper hand with a lone PoW, pak having announced it officially has to play by Geneva convention. Else a huge danda is going up their musharraf.

IAF has defended Indian skies. PAF dropped some dumb bombs on LoC and tried to run off.

Mig21 probably got hit and bailed out in PoK and safe.

We knocked off their terror camp 60KM inside Pak The looser could not even come inside.

It's not about plane versus plane but system versus system where you take in situational awareness and missile capability into account. I am hoping that we have Phalcons on station keeping for now and having a god's eye view on the airspace and being able to vector planes with BVR missiles to lock in on any PAF planes and jam them at same time. Then at that point it doesn't really matter if you have a MiG or MKI or Mirage although Mig 21s are not exactly frontline type materials due to their age and obsolescence. There is only so much you can do to upgrade before it reaches the limit and you need a new type of plane. Anyways, I am hoping at this point the IAF has figured out its weak spots that allowed the PAF to shoot down a plane or two as the PAF claimed and claim more kills against PAF.

Rather than being despondent, we should be proud that our boys actually engaged the PAF intruders and thwarted their plans.
Unlike their PAF counterparts who chickened out on the pretext of darkness!

However, how and why the Mig 21 trainer came to the fight is a mystery. I am speculating here, but maybe the timing of the PAF incursion (10 AM) may be responsible for IAF's primary assets not being on CAP and the Mig21 doing the duty?

the real travesty is we allow an MiG21 air base to function in a hot zone as Srinagar AB.

So, airstrikes on terror camps are not ok now. Pakis won't accept war on terror and will treat it is direct war. Shame on pakis for defending terrorists.

One way to deliver quick slap - just flatten paki military infra in PoK. They are doing illegal occupation of our land. Paki military has no right to build any military outpost in PoK, let alone capturing our pilots . Pakis have no legal rights to operate in PoK this brazenly.

My feeling is the MiG was baited into PoK and an AAM used to gun it down. It was relatively easy pickings.

most of the the old migs are in front line bases and Mig-21 are basically interceptors. Even if the Mig-21 was shot at the border it would have fallen inside POK

This is not a war where either part wants to capture land. It is a war to show strength. India needs to show its superiority.
In any case TSP have to factor in that Nukes does not allow them to do anything. Further TSP stands isolated. USA and France has clearly backed India. China has not backed TSP and may as well be pushing it to close down the terror camps. India has some 450 billion in reserves and a huge economy. TSP has to run for money to IMF or someone else.

At the end of the day it is all about changing the perception of the TSP armed forces. If they have to fight a superior force, they may find it in their interest to shut down the terror camps.

The retaliation was expected and now Paks are fully into the trap not having forex to cover 1 month of imports. Knowing our leadership everything is working out to plan. So (if confirmed) we did lose a jet beating back intruders but in what context? Where, at a time of choosing of the Pakis, we confronted them (instead of blaming the bright sunlight) and even shot down a F-16 (if confirmed). I am enthused now that we are taking the Pakis down the path we wanted them to in the first place! Now the full might of our Indian armed forces, our economy and diplomatic finesse/reach come into play and the Pakis would be praying that we deescalate and save their H&D. A sucker punch in the larger scheme of things means nothing. No Dhoti shivering needed and our captured pilot will be back and Pakistani losses will have a deep impact on the Jihadi army psyche.

Well played by our boys, they have shown the will to take on anything thrown at them and the leadership has backed them. No minor setback will demoralize us. Folks, one of the finest armed forces is dictating how things will play out, let us back them and enjoy their decimation of a far inferior enemy!

Things for us to analyze and fix post all the conflict if the items come out to be true,

1. What was a mig doing on the border?
2. What took down the mi-17 (if confirmed) and if it was indeed MANPADS then we have a stinger chinese clone hunt on our hands. We need to cleanse the jihadis and their bases to the full. I am particularly interested how a seasoned individual like Sri Ajit Doval will handle this.

Glad Mig-21 got that Paki aircraft (unconfirmed report say f-16).

One important statement - PAF targeted Indian military installation, although we had targeted terrorist camp.
This opens the door for India to retaliate in kind.

Nothing wrong in using Mig-21 in a hot zone the Bison are well equipped and pilots are trained to combat a type which enemy has.

And you could get shot down for many reason no matter if you are fighting in a Mig-21 or MKI or Rafale.
