Sir that could be even sonic boom. If I remember clearly from the circulating clips the villagers reported loud explosive noise not flashes of light or burning smell or fire. If the bombing was really sub-optimal and contained to a few square feet of space inside a room then it really brings back the question how do we quantify (and justify) losses in economic terms for the enemy after spending so much on delivering a small non-military payload. Is there any fiscal prudence in it.

I have not followed any of the discussions here, just responding to these two posts:

1) The Spice family is very accurate. As a result, two missiles/bombs could have used one hole (in the roof) to enter A building
2) Such bombs can count - they can be configured to explode on a particular floor (ref: Iraq)
3) India is one of a few nations that have thermobaric weapons. Such weapons suck the surrounding air/oxygen and occupants die of collapsed organs - mostly the lungs. They may or may not do damage to surrounding structures

Not saying this is what happened, but would not be surprised.

However, this is the most likely scenario ........... that matches what the IAF/GoI has been saying from day one - X number of terrorists killed, no collateral (or was it civilian?) damage.

There is a camp, but no campers.

Why not put up a video as proof of life....me thinks this is fake!

Maybe UBCN can comment!

Maybe he got so much spice that he is not able to show his face. Note that it's almost 10 days since the spicing took place.

1) having crossed the rubicon on Feb 26/27...its time GOI plans to use IAF to bomb any PA post from where infiltration takes place. This is something which GOI must empower IAF with... we must keep air space over Pakistan closed forever and deter infiltration. Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad are their main civilian airports. 2) another thing which we have not been able to get a handle is the non stop supply of AK weapons for jihadis in kashmir.

Is there any doubt about what a terror attack will have as a response. ?

A low level attack will result in destruction of local assets. High level will result in destruction of assets in TSP.

Don't entertain any doubt in this regard.

Also be prepared for random acts of terror across the country. In the run-up to the election aided and abetted by local assets.

I think the chowkidar will just patch things up and move on in line with the pattern before Pulwama and after Balakot. Never say never BUT I would be surprised if it goes beyond that.

Injury count is now 28!

This could very easily happen in a Thanjavur bus stand also.

Considering the population density of India, the sheer # of brainwashed Muslims, the presence of Pakistan & the wide porous borders, I am speechless at what Doval has achieved. 5 years and no terror attack in the rest of India.

This is not the first grenade thrown near the railway station this year, the bus stand/railway station are sitting targets for militants. Apart from a handful of poorly trained local cops, it's a minefield. For reference, Jammu city is approx 50kms from the IB.

Mr Rao, given that thermobaric weapons have higher blast effect than regular explosive, would you not expect it to show greater signs/evidence of impact ?

Especially in a 1000 kg guided bomb ?

Also, these appeared as ordinary building , would thermobaric weapon really be best choice , given that they are not likely to be bunkers, tunnels, reinforced etc

Should we not consider the possibility that the structure which was attacked was not a usual brick and mortar construction? A hardened reinforced place for the JEM faculty graduates and alumni could feel safe.

Why so many doubts about the balakot strike. The IAF says it was given a target. It killed it. End of story. Why have so many questions regarding what Nature of explosives. The type of munitions. The casualties. Etc.

Besides, the Pakistani establishment has from day one said no damages were inflicted upon the JeM. They cordoned off the area for 10 days. Can't the structure be repaired in 10 days is some damage was done to it.

Why this urge to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

I can understand the opposition to make such noise as they are stareing at general election loss if the goi comes out a winner.

But why are members on this forum so naive.

+100.

Why don't people question when it is reported that the IA killed such and such, such number of terrorists in an encounter? ...Because we take it for granted. Same logic should be applied in this case as well. Our armed forces are Professionals, not Professional Chors like the Pakis.

The more details are released about this operation, that much more endangered is the next operation & operatives. Look at the details we have released so far:

1) Preferred time of attack.
2) Preferred aircraft in the strike package with the type of backup.
3) Type of weapons used.
4) The type of surveillance & logic used to select the target.
5) Type of diversionary tactic used.

JEEZ! Next time we might as well call Dimmy and tell him we're coming!

The camp did not appear to have reinforced structures.. instead it had CGI sheds and the like, as described in official reports.
Most probable location, of Jaba Top, in my opinion - (reported to be near Bisian and Jaba) :
Jaba Top
34°27'50.32"N
073°19'5.44"E
Check it out in Google Earth - the layout certainly appears to be unsual in its location, with its arrangement of shelters, etc

here. caption said some 200 rifles and ammo were usually kept there.

mortar attack today on gathering of kabul's political elite including abdullah abdullah and hamid karzai.

anyone interested in stability will need to open their armouries to beef up and sustain the current govt against the inevitable talipaki push once DT declares "victory" and walks away before the 2020 GE.

17 years have passed but place looks like a time warp. a few like mohd fahim, jalaluddin haqqani, burhanuddin rabbani have passed away or assassinated but most of the rest are there - atta mohd noor, abdul malik pehlwan, ishmael khan, gulbuddin hekmatyar, abdul rashid dostum....

every militia is arming themselves and preparing for whats next.

The SPICE is in IAF inventory since 2015 and integrated on M2K and SU-30MKI if we search for that term on this forum.
The magazine/bunker at Balakot required the use of the penetrator version of SPICE 2K which is Israeli equivalent of BLU-109.
US would never sell that BLU-109 to India.

DRDO has quit a few PGM bombs.
Following are LGBs

450 Kg HSLD with Griffin
500 Kg PAB with Griffin
IAF has Paveway kits ofr 1000 MC bombs
And uses Litening pod to do range finding for dumb bombs

working on 1000 kg with 30 km and 100 km ranges.

The 30 km uses only the fore and aft fins. The 100 km uses mid body wings.
Guidance is like SPICE.

Most of pressure is due to leaks that they been planning attacks on western targets in India which lead to US and Europe putting pressure on Pakistan.
