I had the honour of interviewing him in 2001. His son serves in the same battalion, 1/8 GR ( now 3 Mech). May his soul rest in peace.

May he rest in peace. I very sadly remember the passing away of Maj Ram Raghobha Rane and Col Hoshiar Singh over the past decade. I understand Hony Capt Karam Singh PVC is also not there with us. With the passing away of Maj Thapa, only Bana Singh, Yogendra Yadav and Sanjay Kumar are the surviving PVCs.

CHANDIGARH, Dec 8 — A meeting to condole the death of Col Hoshiar Singh (retd), Param Vir Chakra, was held by members of The War Decorated, a registered charitable association of PVC, MVC, Vr C and MC winners, here today.

Brig Sant Singh, (retd) president of the Association, said gallantry award winners from the city and vicinity assembled and paid homage to a war hero who passed away at Jaipur on December 6. A two minute silence was observed in memory of the departed colleague. They passed a resolution, expressing sympathies with the bereaved family.

For the younger generation, PVC Major Dhan Singh Thapa has shown to be the role model, one who kills the enemy and survives to tell the glory, and not as one who seek Shahadat as the ultimate goal.

The highest honour is to earn PVC & show it to the world wearing on your broad shoulders and live to a ripe age. I personally saw the battlefield Major Dhan Singh Thapa fought the slimy Chinese in Pangong-so lake in Ladakh, I can appricate the odds he faced. You are my hero.

RIP sir. Rest assured your country will continue to march to higher glories.
