I still remember the sudden change of tone of Debjani from jovial to staccato in BRF conversations and then the corresponding gender change. May your soul find peace.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

Re: Brig. RayC RIP
Just as there is a concept that is broadly expressed as an idea of India, the Brigadier was my idea of an Indian army officer. Go gently, soldier.

Re: Brig. RayC RIP
My deepest Condolences to Sir Brigadier Ray, a true soldier, a wise practitioner of the core values of a patriot. May his soul rest in piece. May this beautiful land of ours continue to produce more leaders/officers/patriots like him. I humbly take off my hat to this man and raise my palm in salutations. May his family find comfort and solace in this time of grief.
Ray Sir we will miss you & we thank you for your exemplary service to this nation and your gems of wisdom in many forums. May you walk with with the Gods and the Angels, teaching them a thing or two about what it is to be a soldier in the Indian Army

Re: Brig. RayC RIP
Thanks to Shiv I came to know of this thread.
Brig Ray wasn't well for sometime with his heart condition. But a true soldier that he was with high spirits, he kept going on.
His last message was I need to get admitted to hospital, not before sending a whatsapp voice message commending the work we put into DFI. We had just come back on after a few days of being down & changing software which he really took a liking for.
I had the privilege of meeting him 4 times. Last time was just a few months ago where he invited me for lunch to his home. Spent a good 5-6 hours with him!
It's a personal loss for me is what I can say.
May he Rest In Peace.

Re: Brig. RayC RIP
Brig. Raychaudhuri came from a distinguished family. His cousin was the distinguished astrophysicist Amal Raychaudhuri whose work is fundamental in the Hawking-Penrose theory of singularity formulation in Cosmology. I once had exchanged emails with Brigadier sahib about his distinguished cousin who had just passed away in 2005. In his posts he was thoughtful, insightful and treated everyone with courtesy and respect, a true professional. May his tribe increase.

A sad day. Thank you sir, for participating in this forum and sharing your experience and wisdom. You will be missed!
Re: Brig. RayC RIP
Brig SK Raychaudhur was one of the first ex servicement to post on BR forums - at a time when BR was the only Indian mil forum on the internet. I also had a chance to exchange private emails with him, which were full of his knowledge and wisdom.
I remember reading his posts on warfare in mountainous terrains with great interest. He was a CO of an infantry battalion, which he described as the best post one could hold in the Army.
I believe his daughter was also a member of the forum. My condolences.

He was also Deputy Div Commander of 8th Mtn Div during kargil. some of his exploits as part of ghatak ptn were most interesting to say the least.

Re: Brig. RayC RIP
I just noticed this thread and for a moment I could not believe the thread title! The Brigadier was a soldier's soldier and I had the good fortune of interacting with him over phone and internet though we never met face to face. He helped us a lot with his IA contacts during the QuickClot donation effort when even certain IA personnel were giving us the round around.
It seems strange in retrospect but on the night of May 30th, I was in my hotel room in Durban South Africa, ready to go to bed before the Comrades Marathon and for some unknown reason I felt the urge to go online and read one of my favourite funny stories from RayC, "The Telephone and the Whore" even though I had probably read it a dozen times before. Life is strange and intriguing sometimes.
Let me post the link here which has all the RayC stories. Read them and enjoy! They are written by a man who could wield the pen and the sword equally well, always to defend others, never in spite.
Rum, Bum and Mouthorgan and other Indian Army stories
