The first Aerostat borne radar system possibly from Israel is being inducted into the Western Air Command. Construction of the technical infrastructure to accommodate this advanced, state-of-the-art Air Defence Sensor has been started. The foundation stone for the construction of technical and OTM accommodation was earlier laid by Air Marshal AR Gandhi AOC-in-C, WAC. The acquisition and integration of this advanced radar platform would significantly enhance the capabilities of the IAF and usher in a new era of airborne sensors, to intercept missiles and aircraft. IDC see this as an innovative measure for Aerostats have proved successful only in counter drug ops not war protection, but then IAF does try things out.
