IAF trainer crashes at Dundigal, pilot safe
[Deccan Chronicle, 11 October 2004


Hyderabad: A training aircraft crashlanded in a deserted field near the Dundigal Air Force station on Oct 10th evening after it developed a technical snag. No one on the ground was injured as the aircraft, a HPT-Deepak, ploughed into the field about 6 km from Gagillapur village at about 6:30 p.m. The trainee pilot, V Danvar, who was not identified by the IAF, is safe but is in a state of shock and has been taken to the IAF Hospital at Dundigal. The village is 11 km away from the Dundigal IAF station, which is about 50 km from the city. As in previous crashes, the IAF was tightlipped about the entire incident. According Dundigal Sub-Inspector Srinivasa Rao, the aircraft took off at around 5:20 p.m. "Around 6.30 pm it landed in a field 6 km from Gagillapur. The pilot crash landed the plane after it developed a snag."

Police said no case had been registered. Srinivas said the IAF may recover the plane on Monday. This is the fourth crash since the year 2000. On 08 May 2001, a Kiran trainer aircraft crashed in paddy fields at Daramanga in Ranga Reddy district. Pilot Shishir Sukand suffered minor injuries. On 21 November 2002, a HPT-Deepak from the Dundigal IAF base crashed near the village of Vavilala in Medak district. Pilots Flt Lt K S Reddy and Srinivastava escaped unhurt in the crash which occurred about 100 km from Hyderabad. On 31 July 2003, a Chetak helicopter from the Hakimpet IAF station crashed at Mandayapalli in Ranga Reddy district. Both the pilots, Flt lt Narayana and trainee Avinash Sharma died when the copter crashed in rocky terrain about 30 km from the city. On 06 November 2003, Sqn Leader Gokul and trainee pilot Srivastava were killed when their Kiran trainer crashed at Antayapally near Shamirpet.

IAF plane lands in field
[Times of India, October 2004]


Hyderabad: An air force trainer aircraft made an emergency landing in a field in Gagillapur village on the city outskirts on Oct 10th evening. The aircraft had left Air Force Academy in Dundigal around 5:20 p.m. and had to make the emergency landing at around 6:20 p.m. due to a technical snag. Pilot Biswas Singh managed to land the aircraft safely with the help of the control tower. The aircraft did not catch fire as the land, belonging to one Narayana, was wet, the Dundigal police said.
