Actually , this is the right time to buy them cheap and take over their major economic institutions and do the revrerse Raj. Bet 100k Indian enterpreneurs can control Bit's future for majority of Bits will be happy to earn enough to fend 4 themelves while working for Indians. Hire Pakis to keep the rebelious Bits in line.

Recession-hit govt to sell off state assets: PM

The British government will sell off a raft of state assets to help reduce its debt, Prime Minister Gordon Brown was to announce Monday.

The government is to sell off 16 billion pounds of assets, Brown was to say, according to extracts from a keynote speech he was to give in London.

Brown was to outline details of initial sales that could raise three billion pounds, including the Channel Tunnel linking Britain to France; the 33 percent stake in European uranium corsortium URENCO; the Tote bookmakers; the River Thames crossings at Dartford, and the Student Loans Company.

Brown is aiming to halve Britain's deficit over the next four years.

"We also need a deficit reduction plan that supports growth and jobs, not one that snuffs out recovery before it has started," Brown was to say.

The government will also sell off surplus real estate as market conditions improve.

Brown was to say government should focus on "what it does best".

The funds raised will help pay off Britain's debts, he was to say.

Brown said in a podcast Sunday that his speech would spell out his vision for "enduring and sustainable" economic growth.

"Because it is ultimately growth that is the key to paying down debt," he added.

A spokesman for the main opposition Conservatives said: "As any family knows, selling off things helps in the short-term and, given the state the country is in, is probably necessary but it is no substitute for a long-term plan to get the country to live within its means."

Tony Blair, the favourite to become Europe’s first president, is believed to have accepted tens of thousands of pounds from a steel billionaire campaigning for Ukraine to join the European Union.

Victor Pinchuk, who is championing the country’s bid for EU membership, has already hired Stephen Byers, the former Labour cabinet minister, to press his case. He reportedly paid Blair to give a keynote speech in Ukraine.

Ukrainian diplomats are preparing to launch a membership bid as early as next year and consider Blair a key ally.

Several European countries support closer economic ties with Ukraine but have not directly backed a bid. Some, including Germany, are concerned that closer links with Ukraine may jeopardise relations with Russia.

Blair’s commercial activities and links to key business figures such as Pinchuk will come under scrutiny in any campaign for the EU presidency. The details of the role and contract of employment for the presidency are expected to be discussed by Gordon Brown and other leaders this month.

Pinchuk founded Yalta European Strategy (YES) to campaign for Ukraine to join the EU. Byers, the former trade secretary, is chairman of the board. Blair attended the annual YES meeting in the Ukrainian city of Yalta last year, giving the main speech.

Blair also attended an event sponsored by Pinchuk at the Davos summit in Switzerland this year, along with Bill Gates, Sir Richard Branson and Bill Clinton. He was not paid for this event.

I would take any talk of the 'recession getting over' anywhere in the emerged markets with quite some salt indeed.

These are essentially high-cost high-debt low-growth markets with a demographic deficit that worsens every passing year. Regarding their current pension, retirement and international debt obligations, these markets are flat broke. They're bankrupt, insolvent.

I admittedly got taken in by the mkt manipulation that shows up as an equity rally quite divorced from economic fundamentals and started to doubt what my eyes can plainly see - that the recession has barely started, that the stimulus and generous social safety nets have cushioned the worst of the impact, that the going from here gets increasingly shaky, that the bond mkt vigilantes are not dead, they are merely suppressed for now.

Keep looking for a bond mkt dislocation that will spike interest rates into the double digits. Some expect it may take a year odd for that scenario to unfold. We'll see. UQstan could well be the next Iceland. or not. Time will tell. But no longer will they be the financial colossus that strode the world. Oh, no, those glory days are over and gone. The gory days are just beginning. Hello, brave new world.

The RAF has been showing regular ads on British TV (supposedly) that are for recruitment purposes. They are prominently targeted towards Muslim Asians and show conspicuously an Asian clean shaven male, donning his prayer skull cap while serving in the RAF. A concerted effort is being made to recruit the 18-24 year old Muslim male that is unemployed by showing that he can serve and still keep his faith.

Record recession for UK economy

The UK economy unexpectedly contracted by 0.4% between July and September, according to official figures, meaning the country is still in recession.
It is the first time UK gross domestic product (GDP) has contracted for six consecutive quarters, since quarterly figures were first recorded in 1955.

Quarterly growth of 0.2% had been expected in the figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS), although expectations had been tempered by recent figures showing no growth in retail sales in September, and a 2.5% decline in industrial output in August.
The unexpected decline in the services sector was the key factor behind the drop, with the distribution, catering and hotels sector performing particularly badly.
The UK economy's reliance on the service sector, and financial services in particular, may be the reason why it is still in recession when partners such as France and Germany exited in the second quarter of this year.

The worse-than-expected GDP figures are likely to make the Bank of England consider extending its policy of quantitative easing.

Yes but there aren't many muslims who are interested in joining simply because of policy with regards to Iraq and to a certain extent Afg.
