Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
probably men from SG ? I forget, which units were IDed with the tavors last time ?
Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
Are they regular army folks? Looks like a mercenary/guerilla army on the march with all those different uniforms.

i always thought it was because it is too coldBrando wrote:^^Why do they all cover their faces like that ? Are they trying to hide their identities or are trying to avoid dust inhalation ?

Rather than search or better ask for the reason(s) for the same, you come here and give your expert opinion and pass off a nonsensical comment?Vince wrote:Are they regular army folks? Looks like a mercenary/guerilla army on the march with all those different uniforms.

What is the blue-jacketed guy (in the 2nd last pic) holding?
Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
Thought so too. But 1) The barrel seemed too long..and 2) Must be a state policeman, if he is using an SLR, because they are no longer in use by Army and RRRahul M wrote:SLR.

Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
Shoulder tabs look like Indian Air Force? Anyways that is one nice SMG... been cleaned up a lot since its first debut, I see.Gaur wrote:Para Commando holding MSMC at Def Expo 2010:
Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
Agree with Pargha......They are definitely Garuds....Besides shoulder tabs there is that air force patch above the name patch....
One question : Is this the new camo for Garuds ?? Seeing them for the first time in this camo.... It surely looks good.....

Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
From what I know, Garuds wear black berets, not maroon. And the "air force" patch you're referring to is actually a para drop course patch like in this pic and in this pic. He's a Para alright.sunny y wrote:Agree with Pargha......They are definitely Garuds....Besides shoulder tabs there is that air force patch above the name patch....
Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
Dmurphy,
Garud and Marcos have both switched to Maroon berets. IDK, he may be Garud.

Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
^^^the epaulets are main indicator and imo, the gentleman is a Flt.Lt.
Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
the patches he's referring to are the shoulder patches, not the wing patch that you're referring to- they are similar to those worn by IAF personnel- the two blue patches are generally indicative of a Flt. Lt. in the IAF.Dmurphy wrote:From what I know, Garuds wear black berets, not maroon. He is definitely is a Garud, check out the chest patch on the left hand side of the two images.

The Mi 17s in the 2nd picture.. are they a new type?
The cargo door on the 17s that I have are always roundish in shape. These ones seem pretty flat and straight. New modification?
The landing gear seems straighter too
and the ?pod like structure on top of the door?
Compare to http://www.bharat-rakshak.com/IAF/Image ... Mi-17e.jpg
Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
They appear to be Mi-171Sh versions (developed from the Mi-8 AMTSh) which had a loading ramp in place of the clamshell cargo door. Did not know the IAF had any in service though. The 171Sh was built for the Czech AF acc. to Wikipedia. So I could be mistaken.Natt wrote: The Mi 17s in the 2nd picture.. are they a new type?

Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
They are built for anyone to buy but i think but Czechs and croatia were the ones to buy them . Had no idea that IAF bought em too. Also if they are a newer version, wonder why the BSF dint buy these.nachiket wrote:They appear to be Mi-171Sh versions (developed from the Mi-8 AMTSh) which had a loading ramp in place of the clamshell cargo door. Isnt the chest patch just the paradropper badge?
I think the Garud badge is the one on the left shoulder of the Garud shown in the picture... the small blue flying eagle kind of badge, that is located above the big Garud patch.. I think that must be the Garud badge.. the one on the chest is para qualification badge..
Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
No, them seem to have different patches. Take a look at this Army Paratrooper
Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
The badge on the chest with parachute between the wings is a qualified parajumper badge in both the pictures, it is the same badge. The 'eagle badge' on the Garud on the left sleeve (eagle only, on the top) is an AIR FORCE badge. All IAF personnel wear that badge, airmen and officers alike. The eagle with the cross-swords on the bottom half of the left sleeve is the 'garud' badge, worn only by the garud force of the IAF.

Oh wow!!! Awesome pics! Waiting for some night action pics later! Would love to see the day when LCA, MCA, PAK-FA and MMRCA (whichever one is chosen) bring down hell on the firing ranges! Loved to see An-32 being used as a bomber. Maybe we could use the IL-76 to drop some daisy cutters!!!
Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
Years ago a smart BR webmaster noticed the AN 32's ability - After almost 8 yrs we get to see it
Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
Fantastic pics - esp the air to air shots of the .Migs
But I am not convinced that the An bomber pic is real. Might be a PS job. Will check and revert.
(And of course eat crow soup if wrong)

Can anyone identify this bird? Look at the nose, at the spherical protrusion. ..not sure if its military or commercial, but looks odd..
