Why do you guys post such large images even when you have the option of posting smaller ones?
Also, please give credit to the blog from which this image was posted. Looks like it is linked to Chhindits blog.

Craig
you keep repeatedly posting large images. How many times do you need to be reminded??
and we all visit those blogs so just links are enough.

Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
It consumes bandwidth and also makes page to scroll, so one has to scroll to view entire messages when large pics are posted. Also, it does take a long time for people with lower bandwidth to view the page. Please be considerate of others too, and a lowest common denominator will ensure that everyone has good experience.Craig Alpert wrote: 1 Because us lesser mortals don't have computer speeds which takes eons to load up pics and 2 because our eye sights and viewing pleasure is obligied when viewing this on a massive screen for a discetonomy
use a combination of url and img tags , so that if one wants to view higher resolution pics, they can click on the smaller image. [ url = <link to bigger pic> ] [ img ]<link to small pic here .[ /img ] [ /url ]
Also, please provide credit to the blogs/sites from where pictures are posted. That is the minimum courtesy that we can offer to the them.

Did they allow you to take videos? I wasn't even allowed to take pics of the garden next to the war museum, forget the parade ground. A INSAS wielding jawan kept a eagle eye on me to ensure no pics were taken while i was roaming around.

Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
I didn't wait for the permission The parade video was shot by standing next to the fake helicopter dummy next to the parade ground. I guess they never thought anyone will be so foolhardy to risk clicking pics so close
And we befriended the INSAS wielding jawan enough to coax him into letting us hold onto the rifle, checkout its single & burst mechanism & even held the magazine & bullets in hand
(But he wouldn't let me click him or the insas)
The jawan was definitely in favour of Patka over helmet. He said that after firing, the grouping of bullet holes is done & distance of max 3-4 centimeter is acceptable.
As for the parade ground and the second video, I walked confidently into the practice area & was greeted by a Naik who did a folded hand greeting! after a long chat, he not only allowed us to shoot the video but even let me try my luck on the rope climbing!
Rohit, i went with a tfre yindoo only (tf=tall fat).

Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
That means they are considering to change the camo pattern too? Because that digital camo will sure look odd on the current Indian army camo patterns (palm frond, the new one, etc.)
Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
Saala ...I really think this sucker should be placed in front of a tank (2 Km range)(T-90/Arjun) just to see what kind of damage would its shell do to a tank at close range!
Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
They are not SFF and infact are not Indians. They are Dalai Lama's personal security guards which Indian Govt allow him to carry. Place is The Grand Dragon hotel, Leh. Incidently the best hotel in Leh to stay in. I know many ex-NSG Ladakhis who are also part of his security team whenever Dalai Lama is in India.sum wrote:

While I understand removing the 'slug-fest' posts, what happened to the other posts? Would not keeping the post above^^^ attract another set of replies?

I am pretty sure this pic is from Dalai Lama's Tawang visit, and not from Leh.

Yes, that's right. We discussed these pics earlier and they relate to the Dalai Lama's visit to Tawang which so angered the Chinese.

Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
wrt the helmet and the bulletproof vest pics posted above.
Why is there so much space between the helmet and the ear of the soldier?
These resemble the WW2 german soldier helmets! Those helmets also had an ear cover but were a little big around the ears.
The allies and also Indian helmets didn't have the ears covered.
Are these an imported design that'll be built by a desi company or OFB? I am sure no Indian company will come up with a suitable helmet to adorn India's soldiers. We are going to import even the combat helmet.
We are like this onlee.
Those Dalai Lama security guards pics appeared during his Tawang visit, so they have possibly been taken there.

Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
^WRT to the helmets shown above I too feel the same way. They are crude and I don't think a lot of effort or thought was put into fabricating that. In fact, the current Patka helmets would seem to be more distinctive and robust. However, the Patka helmet is not ideal either ax it provides neither shade nor sufficient protection around the ears and back of the head. They can develop the Patka further by using kevlar instead of steel while providing some kind of raised ridge or flap of kevlar at the front and back of the helmet to provide better shade and protection for the ears and back of the head.
Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
Gagan Sir, exactly my thoughts regarding the helmet design but atleast they are of new design, will provide good protection unlike the old ones that our soldiers wore during Yudhabhyas. That was so embarassing.wrt the helmet and the bulletproof vest pics posted above.

But I think there seems to be something wrong with the alignment in the above image. If you look at the first two images, the helmet looks fine. It's only in the third pic that the ear doesn't seem to have a cover.
These body armors are developed by an Indian company called Anjani Technoplast
Here is their website :

Thanks
Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
the likely reason for giving some space between ears and the helmet is to accommodate a headset.

Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
May be imho the gap also seems exaggerated as unlike a biker's/miner's helmet this one is bigger to ensure maximum coverage but the inner shell/foam liner which actually makes contact with the head is of similar size and contour as any other helmet.

Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
Atreya, i think neither of them is SFF (if u mean Special Frontier Force). They are from the Ladakh Scouts, the youngest infantry regiment. Look closely at the scarf motif in the first pic and the woman's sleeve badge in the second. It's the Urial, the Ladakhis reginmental mascot.
Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
Yes, I meant Special Frontier Force. Thank you for the clarification. I was wondering how SFF pics were available so openly.pmund wrote:Atreya, i think neither of them is SFF (if u mean Special Frontier Force). The third pic is of SFF, i presume?
