Rohit sir, i am aware that they share the same roots.. What i meant was that the Cockpit was not changed superficially, in an aircraft that was supposed to be the next stage in its evolution...

Somebody caught pics of some IA Tatras on NH-17 in Karnataka. Apparently they are Tatra T815s as per the news report linked here and they are said to be part of some IA testing effort.
Speaking to Daijiworld army official Basavaraj, who was behind the wheels said it is a special vehicle which is being taken on a test drive on the roads all over India. We are testing its ability in terrains like sea, deserts, plains and hills so that they can soon be introduced into the Indian Army.
...
...
“The vehicle will be tested all over India and its features will be made known to the public only on the Republic Day Parade next moving along Rajpat at Red fort, New Delhi on January 26.

Bridge Layers...they have been operational for some time now.Probably Basavraj was taking daiji world for a ride.

Also aren't even Tatras supposed to evolve?Haven't seen any changes in it since the 80's.

Thanks to all those who pointed out that they were pontoon bridges. Was curious about the payload.

And as Anshul alludes to, the army driver might have taken the reporters for a ride, as there is hardly anything special about a bunch of old Tatras. These guys aren't even big league reporters, so can't blame them for believing whatever was told to them. Esp when the 'specialists' in these matters at big media houses leave a lot to be desired.

FWIW, the trucks are indeed carrying some sorta sign that says 'On Test' as can be seen from the photos.

Truely mean looking SDREs out there( esp the Tavor carrying RR Cdo folks)!!!

No wonder the TFTA are also so afraid of them that they even refuse to name a area commander these days lest they meet their 72 on tatkal basis...

Looks like basic camo cover. The tavor may have been covered to conceal its outlines. They routinely do that with druganovs....possibly to deny any TFTA units the advantage of identifying the weapon type during the course of an engagement.

Is the first picture an FN FAL ? Looks different and has more meaty wood below the barrel.Haven't seen many looking like that.Has a solid squarish profile.Second thoughts its a 7.62 MM Galil Sniper Rifle.Great guess rk!

Nice pics rkhanna. Some of these I have seen (though I am not sure whether on this forum or not). However, the one of soldier in the vehicle carrying micro tavor is a catch. There are not many pics of those.

I know this has been discussed do death on BRF, but i cannot resist saying this : We need to get some new and standardized camos/shoes for our brave women and men in armed forces. It just doesn't look right when you see so many different colors and some without camos.

Hi Ambar!
May be there is some reason in different cammo because you can easy recognize the servicemen from your platoon personally, even in fighting, and practically no chance for the enemy to mimic your soldiers by dressing the standard cammo. Also it is a bigger challange for the enemy eyes to recognise soldiers hiding in different cammo.

Igorr, I don't think that is the reason for different camos. As discussed before, the standard issue fatigues get worn out and torn soon. Soldiers then go to local stores and purchase the cloth, thus leading to such completely different camos. IMHO, it is not deliberate.

The question is: if the cammo difference
is a problem, which must be resolved urgently because A and B, or it's better to allow the current situation following? I think, the cammo unification is not the first grade priority if any, due to the reasons enumerated above. If taking my Russian experience for comparison, the regular army units personal has unified cammo, but the counter-terroristic units in Chechenya have rather different much like Indian border guards. I dont think it's accidentally or because lack of funds, since the counter partisan units of Ru Army and Internal Ministry have better equipment per soldier in average. Some except - is winter clothes, which are standard for all Army.

Kind of related, wanted to know if anyone got a zoomed in view (without any distorted turret corners that closeup shots bring in) of Arjun MkI like this one in the desert or a flat terrain? Plan to use that as the basis for an art project.

There are times when one states things he knows, has seen with his own eyes or worked with his own hands. But some chaps insist on proof akin to DNA profiling, which one is unable to provide.

This was to ensure compatibility with Mirage and Jaguar fleets. There are no Russian refuelling systems in use, the Il-78 uses Israeli systems.

See the OEM's 2009 PDF about the 754 series pod, note the pic (I have not seen any IAF airman walk around in white t-shirt). Also you would you think that Cobham would be proud to be associated with IAF and Su-30MKI if there was a 754 on the MKI?
http://www.cobham.com/media/33361/cob_m ... _uk_fa.pdf

Here is another reference to the IAPO Su-30MK with 754 series pod which fits most timelines. Again...IAPO Su-30MK is the MKI and MKM.
Malaysian Flankers poised to be operational by year-end wrote:The Malaysian Su-30MKMs will be capable of buddy refueling, and Cobham of the UK announced during LIMA that it had signed an $18 million contract to integrate the 754 Buddy Refueling System pods onto the aircraft. Cobham qualified the system on the Su-30 fighter in 2005, and during the show also announced a agreement with Protank Technologies for in-country support.

The recent joint air combat exercise that India held with the French air force in June included a Su-30 tanker.

^ Interesting information , btw do we have a picture of MKI with 754 pod ? I think debate started based on pics of UPAZ-1A from Karlo Kopp's site which are Su-27K shots.

Capt Nairgolis - it appears that I have several hi-res scans of Arjun pics from various sources. I don't know the the res of the original pics but the scans I have range from 150 kb to 2 MB in size.

Prem, great find, the link is a keeper highlighting Jack Sepoy’s accomplishments.

Kanson, expensive equipment is not purchased for every airframe, but made available in a common pool and shared on a need basis. Every plane is not designated for tanker role. The 20 refueling pods would be ample for ~ 100 planes, every squadron will not have more than 2-4 pods. Same goes for other assets like Kh-59 missiles or Litening or Elta 8222 pods, though their allotment would be marginally higher since their usage too would be higher.

Negi – I’m sure there will be photos around, it’s been in service for a long time.

More important is that Su-27 family has such a large internal capacity that no EFT was designed for it, and consequently, no plumbing was provided in the hardpoints. However in the Su30, IAF incorporated plumbing in the fuselage hardpoints to enable the pod transfer fuel to other aircraft. So the fuselage hardpoints are wet hardpoints. Not sure whether both are wet, I am guessing only the fuselage rear hardpoint would be wet.

Would be interesting to see the Brahmos launcher on top of that. I am guessing the Brahmos launcher will cover both fuselage hardpoints.

Yes, you are correct when you say all expensive equipments are not for every airframe. But Q is, is refueling pod that expensive? anyway, I missed this piece.
As India’s Sukhoi fleet grows, Cobham is looking at future requirements of 40-50 more.
As i heard it wont be restricted to Su to Su.

Yes, it is, and even if we do have deep pockets, there are operational norms that dictate squadron equipment allotment.
Kanson wrote:As i heard it wont be restricted to Su to Su.
The refueller aircraft has to be Su-30 because the pods are configured to its plumbing. The receiving can be any with a compatible probe.
